I mean the similarity seems…

I mean the similarity seems to be that they are both good  coaches in the x's and o's department and value a team that can play with structure and fundamentals. Also I would say May seems pretty mindful of roster construction in terms of how well pieces fit together and compliment one another. This was quite honestly one of Howard's weaker points as  HC in contrast.

True but those guys were not…

I am just happy that both UM football and basketball have young energetic coaches, seems like that will serve them well in the long haul in the current environment.

Nah, this is just absurdly…

Nah, this is just absurdly pessimistic barring injury. Zero chance this team only wins 3 more games than Beilein's first team that was pretty much devoid of any talent and size. I feel like people are either underestimating May as a coach significantly or the talent that he has miraculously managed to put together with predictions that pessimistic. With Goldin you have a roster with more talent than multiple teams that made the field last year.

My guess is they end up a 7…

My guess is they end up a 7-9 seed depending on the length of the gelling process, that peaks as the season goes along, and no one wants to see in March.

Well I mean yes, but part of…

Well I mean yes, but part of what makes this feat so impressive isn't just getting enough players. May could have done that if they just wanted bodies by offering guys without good options, but to get a collection of players together with actual talent in such a short span is mind blowing.

Yeah, that is not really on…

Yeah, that is not really on admissions, that is on Davis for not doing enough in 4 years at FAU.

This team is far more…

This team is far more talented than that team, that first Beilein team was working with pretty much nothing talent wise and were undersized to boot. The 5th best player on this team probably would have been the best on that team.

Nah, that is absurdly…

Nah, that is absurdly pessimistic. This team has more talent than multiple teams that were in the tournament last year assuming Goldin comes. The floor is pretty much bubble now with this group, if they miss it will only because they didn't gel fast enough or injuries happened

I think some are being a tad…

I think some are being a tad pessimistic with projections in other threads, etc but a 6 seed is definitely a bold prediction. I think I would wager they make it as a 8-9 seed that no one wants to play in March if I had to guess.

I mean the good thing i…

I mean the good thing is given the average turnover in college basketball now, they will probably be playing teams still working on their chemistry somewhat too.

In the portal for bowlers?…

In the portal for bowlers? Because dude has more of a bowler body honestly.

Given the aggregate talent…

Given the aggregate talent on the team, assuming Goldin comes, tournament is 100% a realistic goal. There were definitely teams in the field last year with less talent. Might take a little bit to gel when the season starts, but given that May is a good coach I would actually make a bet right now that this team makes the tourney.

Missing Enow Etta on that…

Missing Enow Etta on that two deep, definitely sounds like will get some snaps from the practice reports.

Unless the pieces don't gel…

Unless the pieces don't gel well after the initial part of the season I really don't think it will be that rough. With Goldin you are looking at a team with more talent certainly than some teams that were in the tournament last year being coached by a good coach. Tournament is becoming a very reasonable  possibility. If I had to make a bet right now I would bet on them making the tournament honestly.

Definitely the pieces of a…

Definitely the pieces of a potential tourney team coming together which is kind of insane given the original state of the roster.

100% disagree on CB2, you…

100% disagree on CB2, you have good young talent there, one or two will emerge as a good player. I have zero doubt about that. It is a little funny for a program that has been great with player development that people still doubt it will occur at spots where you have good young talent, it is bizarre to me quite frankly. You aren't going to have a proven starter from the prior season at every position but that doesn't necessarily mean you need a portal guy for every one of those positions.

With Goldin, NIT is probably…

With Goldin and one more add, NIT is probably the floor, with NCAA tournament in the realm of possibility now depending on how well the pieces gel. There were definitely teams in the tournament with less talent than this one assuming you get Goldin and another add. Though obviously there should be patience if they don't make it but it is definitely becoming more reasonable to think they have a shot.

Pretty damn impressive what…

Pretty damn impressive what May has done with the roster given the smoldering crater it was, definitely tournament bid is not out the question at all now if Goldin comes and depending on how well the pieces gel.

I mean the scouting report…

I mean the scouting report in BC is that they finish at an absurd rate. They haven't got many high quality chances but have pretty much scored on every single one of them. UM hasn't played poorly, but they needed a near perfect game and haven't got it.

Yeah for all those people…

Yeah for all those people saying the ice isn't an issue and it's just a UM problem, BC dude just did a bellyflop with no one within 5 ft of him.

Umm they literally had to…

Umm they literally had to take a tripping penalty caused by an odd looking mishandle at one point. So yes BC is having some issues with it too. But objectively UM has had more offensive zone possession time.

That is not true, they…

That is not true, they literally had to take a tripping penalty caused by a puck mishandle and have also fanned on a couple shots in a very odd manner.

You must by watching a…

You must by watching a different game than everyone else, UM has clearly had more puck possession time.

I mean Duke has the right to…

I mean Duke has the right to that space on the ice just as the BC player does. The BC player literally just ran straight into Duke's skate with his skate, Duke made zero motion to create any contact. That is one of the worst calls I have ever seen in a hockey game point blank.

I honestly don't think BC is…

I honestly don't think BC is playing great at all or really overwhelming UM whatsoever. Give them credit for taking advantage of what they have got chance wise, but in terms of actual puck possession UM is actually outplaying them.

I honestly don't think they…

I honestly don't think they have played poorly at all. In terms of offensive zone puck possession they have outplayed BC. One bad defensive miscue, a slip on what looks like bad ice and a horrific call and that is how it is 3-0.

Buccigross is literally just…

Buccigross is literally just orgasming every time BC brings the puck in the zone.

That ice is absolute shit,…

That ice is absolute shit, both teams have had a bunch of random puck handling and fanning issues. Very frustrating for a pretty even game to turn on a dime because of just a horrific call and what looks like ice that is causing problems.

Are you fucking kidding me?…

Are you fucking kidding me? Dude just ran into his foot and of course pro BC announcing crew is just like yep that checks out.

To add insult to injury on…

To add insult to injury on the blatant high stick missed Copp fractured his cheekbone. The NHL really needs to redefine the whole injury part of the review for high sticking. I am going to say anytime a guy has to be helped off the ice and goes to the dressing room that should be considered injury, non sensical that it is only blood apparently. Though given how the rest of the night went even with PP Caps goaltender would have stoned everything.

Goalie stealing a game the…

Goalie stealing a game the Wings have largely controlled. Sucks, but that is a part of hockey as the glory years Red Wings teams that lost in the playoffs because of that can attest to. Though hot goalie or not got to find a way to get something past him.

So a guy going to the…

So a guy going to the dressing room is no injury? Ok, lol.

What the fuck is wrong with…

What the fuck is wrong with these officials, how do you not see that high stick? They also missed another too many men on the ice a few minutes prior.

Wings are dominating this…

Wings are dominating this game, just running into a goalie tonight who is stopping everything.

Everyone talks about the…

Everyone talks about the block but something that was also a huge impact was when they got the foul call that should have gone on Hancock wrong and gave it to someone else. He went on to score like 9 points or whatever it was after he should have fouled out.

Eh in the end it was really…

Eh in the end it was really the Rangers who bore the brunt of Fielders injury, the Tigers actually got two very productive seasons out of him, playoffs in the final year not withstanding, and then parlayed that into fleecing the Rangers in a trade for an all star in Kinsler before Fielder's neck issue was an issue.

Really cool how Nienhaus is…

Really cool how Nienhaus is headhunting, even on guys without the puck and the refs are going to let him get away with it sometimes. I don't watch alot of college hockey, is the officiating usually this dogshit?

Go Blue, also sidenote it is…

Go Blue, also sidenote it is early but the Tigers are 3-0 for the first time since 2016. It does help that Al Central really sucks of course.

I do actually doubt the…

I do actually doubt the record flips even if those two players end up at UM. Howard had two years of Dickinson flanked by a couple NBA draft picks and proceeded to produce a bubble team and a  NCAA tournament miss with those two teams.

Some of McCarty's perceived…

Some of McCarty's perceived lack of skill was more a product of his role honestly, at least early in his career. Guy was a high goal scorer in the minors I believe and still flashed that skill at times with the Wings.

I guess my only question…

I guess my only question would be if the few grand slam names like Greg McDermott were considered or contacted since worse case is they say no. But the more I think about  it besides someone like that May is my number one choice of the other names mentioned.

Yeah so for all the talk…

Yeah so for all the talk about wide open coming into this tournament this is turning into a very boring and chalky type of tournament.

Honestly for all the talk…

Honestly for all the talk about no dominant teams this year both Purdue and Uconn are a clear step above everyone else to me if they play their respective games. Houston and Arizona to a lesser extent. UNC is pretty eh to me though.

Hard to trust any Purdue…

Hard to trust any Purdue team in March but my gut tells me that this may be the one that finally makes a final four. I actually think Purdue, UConn and Houston are all going to make the final four if I had to guess at the moment. Purdue, Uconn, Houston and Zona would be my picks at the moment.

I mean even if they did I…

I mean even if they did I really don't feel like alot of coaches are in the head space to really listen until their season is over with particularly if you are coaching a team with deep run potential.

Eh, disagree, both guys have…

Eh, disagree, both guys have some potential and could develop with the right coach creating a good culture. It would worth it for May to at least talk to both of those guys. Get the the best FAU guys to come over, one of the those two guys to come back and a few recruits and you can at least cobble together something that is a decent improvement from this year.

I mean there generally isn't…

I mean there generally isn't an issue getting guys in if they are grad transfers or freshmen so you can in fact bring in even as is, you just have to target the right guys. I mean on paper even without Love, it looked like UM had brought in some decent transfers last year but obviously it didn't actually pan out.

I mean I would have…

I mean I would have preferred if UM waited a little bit and took a swipe at someone like McDermott, worse case he says no. The rest of the candidates were more or less interchangeable to me so better to get the guy you want asap if that is the direction you are going to go. My only real reservation with May is sample size.

Definitely would talk to…

Definitely would talk to Mark Byington  as a potential candidate. JMU looks like a well coached team on both ends of the floor.

Utah State looks like a…

Utah State looks like a pretty well coached team, I would give Danny Sprinkle a look. Though maybe not quite a long enough resume as a HC.
