My husband and I were…

My husband and I were talking about this the other day. He stays off Twitter, mgoblog, podcasts, etc. usually for a week or two and doesn’t want to talk about it. I, on the other hand, want to consume all the media and hear other peoples (rational) takes. Usually we listen to the mgopodcast together but I started yesterday because I know he’s not going to. It took a few years into our marriage for me to figure out how different we are in this way and to try to respect his way of coping.

Back in 2010 I was staying…

Back in 2010 I was staying at a hotel in Dearborn for some mandated training for my job. One day it seemed like everywhere I went I saw these enormous men who clearly dwarfed me, most of them by a good foot or so. They were all over the place. At the hotel restaurant, in the pool, in the hot tub, riding the stationary bikes (which was interesting to see due to their size), and groups tossing a football around in the lobby.  After awhile I realized it was the Detroit Lions football team and that must be (at the time) their team hotel for home games.

Maybe not a cool story bro (sis?) since it was the Lions and because I’m way too shy to approach any of them to make this a more interesting story.

We just found out last week…

We just found out last week that the twins we are expecting in September are both boys and are  perfectly healthy, for which we are so thankful! We’re praying everything continues going well with the pregnancy so we can make our annual trip to the family cabin in the UP this summer. My 4 y/o daughter is kind of shy and was quite anxious to play soccer for the first time this year but she’s loving it and doing great. Teaching reading to my oldest son (we homeschool) has been challenging but it’s finally starting to click for him, which is rewarding for both of us! And my 2 y/o son keeps us in stitches, especially when he insists my stomach is so big because I eat too much food. Life is chaotic but sweet!

I follow a diet called Trim…

I follow a diet called Trim Healthy Mama.  It's a low-glycemic diet.  The premise is that if you want to lose weight each of your meals/snacks needs to have a base of a protein, veggies, and a healthy fat  OR your meal needs to have a base of a protein, veggies, and a healthy, slow-burning carb (no white bread, no white potatoes, and no sugar as they are not slow-burning).  The idea being that it's when you combine protein, carbs, AND fats, that you see weight gain.  So essentially each meal is either keto/low carb, OR low fat/moderate to high carb (45g max).

It has a bit of a cult following (there are lots of products you can buy, that I don't) and the sisters who put it out are a little quirky and not for everyone.  But I've used this diet successfully to lose baby weight, control weight during pregnancy, and keep up a healthy, energetic lifestyle despite having an auto-immune condition.  I personally know several middle aged women who have used this diet successfully as it's meant to shake up your metabolism and get it functioning at a high level.

I personally don't purchase a lot of the special ingredients and instead modify a lot of my current recipes to fit the diet.

This is an incredibly…

This is an incredibly relevant thread for my family. My husband and I were just talking about this last night. 2 out of 3 of my deliveries were traumatic and life threatening. We decided to go for one more and surprise, we have twins arriving in September, making this a high risk pregnancy and delivery. I think we’re pretty set on me having a tubal ligation if we go the c-section route, but I’d also rather avoid a c-section if possible so now we’re talking about a vasectomy as well. I told my husband to check out this thread.

I'm a homeschooling stay at…

I'm a homeschooling stay at home mom of a 7, 4, and 2 year old.  I usually try to get to bed by 11pm and prefer to be up around 6:30-6:45am so that I can shower and be awake before the first one gets up around 7.  That hasn't happened in a while though because I'm pregnant with twins and need all the sleep.  I couldn't stay awake for the Montana game and I know I probably won't make it all the way for the Texas Tech game either.

Ben MacIntyre’s Operation…

Ben MacIntyre’s Operation Mincemeat and Agent Zigzag were riveting as audiobooks.  He does an excellent job telling the very real stories of high stakes espionage during WWII.

Or find yourself a wife who…

Or find yourself a wife who is just as sad as you are that Michigan has a bye this week!

We’re headed to the east side of the state to celebrate my husband’s birthday with his family. We’re thinking of hitting up the Towsley Museum on our way over, since there’s no game to watch.

Welcome back Ace! OFAAT is…

Welcome back Ace! OFAAT is one of my favorite in season features and I’ve been sad without it. I was just thinking yesterday that after such a fun game to watch it was disappointing that there wouldn’t be an OFAAT Tuesday to continue to celebration. So thanks for the pleasant surprise and I hope your health is improving!

I didn't look through all…

I didn't look through all the messages to see if this was mentioned, but I did check the above list and didn't see it there so I thought I'd mention it.  I was hoping to go back and read a diary I didn't have time to read a couple weeks ago, but as far as I can tell there isn't a way to access the diaries beyond the 3 posted in the sidebar.  Fortunately I remembered the title so I could search for it, but it would be nice if that list expanded, similar to being sent to the MGoBoard page for additional titles.  I know Diaries don't get as many clicks, but I thought it was worth mentioning. Thanks for all your hard work on making this new site better!

So hopefully my husband reads

So hopefully my husband reads this, since he's an avid mgoblog reader...  Actually he's an excellent gift giver so I'm not worried.

In my opinion some of the best gifts are experiences because it shows that you put some thought into it.  And seriously, that's one of the things most (not all, but most) women want in a gift, because that's how we buy gifts.

So just think about your wife and what she's interested in.  Does she like wine and crafting? Set her and a friend (or you if you're not too scared) to go to one of those Sip and Paint classes.  Has she always talked about how she wishes she could decorate cakes or cook a real 5 course meal?  There are plenty of places that offer classes for that.  Or get tickets to see her favorite musician, theatrical work, or sporting event.

Another idea: do something with her!  I'm home all day with our young kids, so a chance to spend some time alone with my husband is gold.  Yesterday we dropped the kids off with my parents, went out to lunch, browsed some antique stores, and saw Episode VIII.  We didn't spend a bunch of money and it wasn't crazy exciting, but I loved every minute of it.

Maybe the experiential thing isn't for you, but you are handy, make her something!  Over the years my husband has made me several presents (wooden kitchen utensils, an old window that he turned into a picture collage with pictures of our kids, a rolling pin when I mentioned wanting to try a lighter weight one).  These are, hands down, my favorite presents. Scope out your wife's Pinterest account, it's a goldmine, I promise.

Unfortunately I know not all women are easy to buy for or easily pleased, in which case, may the Force be with you...

But seriously, if you're reading this mgohusband, I want a puppy.

I desperately wanted an

I desperately wanted an Easy-Bake Oven as a little girl. I have always been very interested in cooking and baking. My mom? Not so much, which I'm guessing is why I never got one. I asked for one 5 years in a row before I finally gave up. Now that I have my own home and family I bake a lot and make sure to include my kids if they want to help.

Cranberry Jalapeño Salsa: 12

Cranberry Jalapeño Salsa:

12 ozs cranberries (fresh or frozen) chopped or pulsed in food processor
1/4 cup chopped cilantro
11/4 cup green onions chopped
1- 2 small jalapeno peppers take the seeds out and mince
3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1/2 cup white sugar
1 pinch salt and pepper
Mix all the above ingredients in a glass bowl. Cover and chill for at least 4 hours before serving (best if made the day before).

To serve pour over the top of 2 flattened bricks of cream cheese. We prefer to eat it with tortilla chips but it also goes well with wheat or woven wheat crackers.

Since we are all avid fans

Since we are all avid fans (right down to our 2 year old daughter who was yelling "Go Peppers, Go Taco!" while eating dinner during the Rutgers game) we're having Family Day. We'll be taking our 3 kids to a corn maze, picking pumpkins, and enjoying some delicious fresh cider and doughnuts. There's nothing like fall in Michigan!

In a perfect world, just my

In a perfect world, just my husband and I at home while the kids are napping.  While we process losses differently (he doesn't want to talk about it and I do) we generally enjoy the game the same way.  Unfortunately we often end up at my parents house because they have the full cable package while we only have Sling TV.  And of course we want to raise our kids to be knowledgeable fans so they are usually watching with us.  The other downside to being at my parents is that my dad is the type who yells after every play, either at a player, play call, or ref.  Having grown up with it I'm used to it, but my poor husband, bless his heart, puts up with it like a trooper.  The dentist thinks he grinds his teeth at night, but I'm pretty sure it only happens during games at my parent's house.

MGoHusband, is that you?

MGoHusband, is that you?

I am currently a stay-at-home

I am currently a stay-at-home mom with 2 (soon to be 3) kiddos so some of my personal interests are shelved for the time being, which is fine. If I were kid free I would say reading, kayaking, and cooking (which I still do, just not as inventively).  Some things I am still able to do that I enjoy are giving piano lessons, working with middle schoolers at our church, and currently MGoHusband and I (but mostly MGoHusband) are renovating and flipping a large 1880's Victorian that we picked up for a song last year.  Seeing the house slowly change over the past year has been extremely satisfying!

I should try that sometime.

I should try that sometime.  I can mostly freehand it with the electric razor now.  Not so much with my 4 year old though, that takes a lot of patience and Netflix.

I've been cutting MGoHusband's hair since

I've been cutting MGoHusband's hair since we first got married 8 years ago. Now I cut our son's hair too. The first time I cut my husband's hair after we got married I was terrified. Everything was going great until I went to trim the hair around his ears with the ear guard.  I didn't realize I needed to lift the top half/unguarded part away from his hair and he ended up with a nice half circle around his ear cut almost down to the skin. It ended up having to be buzzed completely.  I can't believe he let me cut his hair again after that!  Thankfully I'm much more proficient these days.

At this stage in life I don't really

At this stage in life I don't really have much downtime to get out and exercise on my own.  Oh who am I kidding, I probably wouldn't that much anyway.  But I have spent the summer chasing my 2 and 4 year olds while pregnant (only 3 weeks to go now!).  The constant movement and sweating in our non-air conditioned old Victorian with this crazy heat has resulted in only gaining 18lbs so I'm fine with that!

Irv Sigler! He was the coach

Irv Sigler!  He was the coach at the high school in my hometown while I was in elementary school and early middle school.  I had no idea he was a graduate assistant at Michigan, but that explains how the winged helmet came to my hometown team, and still persists almost 20 years after he left.  I would say that, along with my parents who love Michigan football, his run of great teams in the 90's was one of the reasons I became so interested in football, choosing to actually sit and watch the games when I was young, rather than running around with all my other middle school friends.  I like him even better now, if that's possible

Edited to add:  Doh, I think this is the son of the coach I'm familiar with.  I'm blaming this one on pregnancy brain.

I went into labor 2.5 weeks early

I went into labor 2.5 weeks early with baby #1.  Since it was our first go around I didn't realize I was in labor (mostly because it was early) and I barely had time for an epidural.  For a first baby he came blazing fast but he was perfect and we were euphoric.

Almost immediately I started to feel extremely weak and began to shake.  I heard the tone of the doctor's voice change from jubilant and congratulatory to worried and then frantic.  Calls were made and people began flooding in the room. I think at one point there were upwards of 20 people working around my bed. I had started to bleed out and they couldn't get it stopped. I could see my husband, looking scared, standing in the corner of the delivery room with our baby boy in his arms.

It was a very surreal moment as I almost seemed to view things from a place outside myself. It was at that point that I was fairly sure that I wasn't going to make it and I just really wanted to see my baby and hold my husband's hand.    After what seemed like an eternity, but was probably only about 5 minutes, they tried one last ditch effort procedure to get the bleeding to stop before they rushed me to surgery.  Thankfully it worked.  I ended up losing over 50% of my blood and had to have several transfusions.  I was told by several doctors and nurses that usually women in my situation don't make it.   Also, thankfully I had opted to drive 40 minutes to Grand Rapids to deliver instead of delivering at the tiny hospital in my small hometown.

They never did figure out what caused the hemorrhage so needless to say I was a little nervous when I was nearing my due date with Baby #2.  That labor and delivery went so unbelievably smoothly that we're headed into the homestretch of my pregnancy with Baby #3 due in early August.

I plan to spend most of my labor pouring over HTTV as currently my MGoHusband is reading it.

And that's how you got the

And that's how you got the nickname Whoopin Stick I'm guessing?

Bingo! We're from West

Bingo! We're from West Michigan and we normally love to go to the spring game. We were looking forward to taking our 4 year old son for the first time but being on a Friday night makes it almost impossible for us to get there by 6pm.

Thanks!  We decided to rent a car so we could see some things out of town if we wanted and those are great suggestions!

Not technically spring break

Not technically spring break as our kids aren't in school yet,  but to celebrate my 30th birthday, and with baby #3 due to arrive in early August, the MGoHusband and I are taking a few days in early May and heading down to New Orleans without the kiddos.  We've never been down there and are excited for a couple days away before we welcome our newest addition! While I'm here, any restaurant or sightseeing recommendations?

I live between GR and Lansing

I live between GR and Lansing and we've got 6" so far with no let up in sight until early morning. I went out to get groceries today (my normal day) and it was hands down worse than the death storm last week. I'm not sure if the county wasn't as prepared this week or what but we live on a main road in our town and I didn't see a plow until well after noon and the county just announced that as of 4pm they were only going to plow the interstate and state highways.

105mph in a 2006 Ford Escape on I-96/I-196 heading towards GR in the middle of the night. My husband was driving and I was in labor. We live about 45 minutes away from the hospital under normal conditions and made it in about 30 minutes that night. I'm pretty sure I yelled at him to go faster but that poor car was shaking pretty badly as it was.

Ha, once a decade is right. I love that show but it takes forever in between seasons. I saw an ad for the recent Christmas special back when I was pregnant with my daughter and realized that she would be almost 18 months old when it finally aired.

We are due with #3 in August and my husband is really hoping for Fielding or Fritz if it's a boy. I'm fine with either, and Fritz has the benefit of being his Grandpa's nickname.

First of all congratulations

First of all congratulations, it's always fun to find out that first time!  I've seen a few perspectives from women, but thought I'd throw in my two cents as a currently pregnant lady:

1) Be kind to your wife!  Being 10 weeks pregnant with our 3rd I know living with a pregnant woman isn't always easy.  She will be going through crazy changes physically, emotionally, and even mentally and sometimes she will take those out on you and she will feel bad about it.  So do sweet things for her.  When I was pregnant with #2 my husband would drive out of his way to pick up my favorite ice cream indulgence that our local store no longer carried.  With this one I've been terribly sick and my husband has stopped almost every night on his way home from work to pick up something that sounded good to me.  It's such a small thing, but it means a lot.  Also, if your wife is having lots of nausea/morning sickness tell her to ask her OB for samples of Diclegis.  It's a relatively new anti-nausea medication specifically for pregnant women.  Most insurance companies don't cover it yet, so ask for samples.  It's worth it's weight in gold!  I can't function without it right now.

2) If either you or your wife like to cook take a couple days to do a bunch of freezer meal cooking about 3 months before Baby is due.  I did that with my second and between meals from friends and meals I had already cooked up and put in the freezer we didn't have to really cook for almost 10 weeks.  It was beautiful!

3) Take a dry run to your hospital of choice about a month or so before Baby is due.  Try to do it during peak traffic to, that way when the time arrives you'll know exactly where you are going.  Also, feel free to speed the whole way, if you get pulled over you'll just end up getting a police escort.  My husband loved being able to drive 100+ mph in the wee hours when we were enroute for Baby #1.

4) If you guys choose to go the breastfeeding route make sure you get a Boppy, that thing will be invaluable for your wife.

5) As long as your wife is feeling well take a Babymoon.  Try to go mid to late 2nd trimester or early 3rd trimester as that's when she'll be feeling the best.

6) Enjoy the ride!  It's crazy and beautiful and whole lot of fun!

Ha, dairy bar!  After seeing

Ha, dairy bar!  After seeing the plethora of "You won't ever sleep again" comments I figured there must not be a lot of breastfeeding MGoWives out there.  My husband definitely gets a pretty regular amount of sleep because we chose to go the breastfeeding route.

Agreed, a changing table

Agreed, a changing table is a huge help!  My father-in-law built a frame to fit a changing table pad and attached it to the top of the dresser we were going to use in the nursery.  So it does double duty and we kept diapers and wipes in one of the drawers in the early months when there aren't a ton of clothes to cram in there.

Ahhh yes, the trick baby

Ahhh yes, the trick baby.  We had one as well.  Not only does it trick you into Baby #2, but it also tricks you into believing you're the best parent alive!

It's probably taken from the

It's probably taken from the screen-side camera. Doesn't that usually reverse the perspective of the picture?

I'm not too far away from

I'm not too far away from Rockford and I was thinking the same thing. If I slap a Rams decal on the back of my nice minivan I think I could be pretty obscure.

Yeah, I think this is one

Yeah, I think this is one of those ideas that's better in theory.  Especially now that I'm crying all the time and soon to be sending my husband on midnight craving runs.  But, on the bright side once he/she is born I'll know there are only a couple more weeks until the season starts. Maybe I'll save my HTTV for some light Labor & Delivery reading.

So that explains it

So that explains it, my husband must have been thinking the same thing!   I'm due mid August with #3...

I'll be there with my

I'll be there with my husband! I surprised him with tickets for his 30th birthday. We've only been to non-conference games so we are ridiculously excited to be going, especially this year!!

Ahh yes, it all makes sense

Ahh yes, it all makes sense now.  And I can't say that I blame them either.  Maybe the snowman was a contingency plan in case of snow?

Kudos to Harbaugh, that's a

Kudos to Harbaugh, that's a great idea! I'm actually more curious to know what in the world is all over the whiteboard behind the coaches in the picture. I can make out a snowman on the left and some sort of four-legged creature on the far right. Also, who drew them? It sort of looks like the whiteboard I have after I let my toddler at it.

Since I have the pleasure of sharing

Since I have the pleasure of sharing a last name with "Mo Weezy"  my husband just sent me the link to this thread and informed me that if we have another son we need to name him Moritz. Seems like a good idea, considering my husbands family isn't that far removed from their emmigration from Germany.

Edited to add that the most recent text from my husband sealed the deal (even though we're not expecting):  Moritz Fielding Wagner.  Can't go wrong there!

Well I'm definitely not an MGoDad

Well I'm definitely not an MGoDad, but as an MGoWife/Mom I just wanted to say that you sound like a fantastic husband and father.  That you care enough to ask about this is pretty great, so kudos to you!  If your wife is as huge of a fan as it sounds like then I can't imagine she would want to miss Harbaugh's first home game.  I know I wouldn't, even if I had to waddle to my seat (yes, we know we waddle, but please don't point it out to us if you value your life)!  30 weeks is definitely doable, she's probably starting to get uncomfortable, but it's not unbearable yet and a couple hours will be fine if she can get up and walk around every once in a while.  I think checking into the ADA seating is a good idea too!

I'm trying to read this at work

I'm trying to read this post at work but my boss keeps checking in on me.  She even tried sitting on my computer to keep me from reading it.  Where, oh where in her short 363 days did I go wrong?

In all seriousness though, thank you BiSB for this entertaining read!  I cried, I laughed, and then I cried again.  Finally, football.  Next Thursday can't come soon enough.

Ha, thanks!  I've been

Ha, thanks!  I've been lurking on my husband's account for a couple years and just recently got my own.  Posting can be intimidating (in a good way) on this board so I'm glad my first one went over so well.
