"UMass guard Derrick Gordon sits down with Kate Fagan to announce that he is gay, becoming the first openly gay athlete in Division I men's basketball."
"He becomes the first active male NCAA Div. 1 basketball player to come out publicly."
I don't know what to do about the copy-paste format, but yeah, both of the links in the OP clarified. If people were talking about Jason Collins' reveal as less significant than it could be because he's a "scrub", then I can definitely see how a Div 1 vs Div 2/3 or a revenue vs non-revenue athlete can be perceived as having differing ~impacts~.

Darko was touted as a combination of Kevin Garnett and Dirk Nowitzki. That's like, better than Lebron is now, and even he exceeded expectations.

His draft record is his most solid. Any GM drafting from 2000-2013 is bound to have some busts.

There isn't. While I don't enjoy blazing as much as drinking, or as much as I used to, there are still a few people that I'll smoke with for nostalgia's sake. I don't think smoking is ~bad~ and, while I'm not picketing or leading the parade, I think the legalities of marijuana need some refreshing.
I was just making a funny observation that people that smoke weed beyond college are a lot like vegetarians, cat people, and that one woman at work that used to weigh 250 pounds and has now gotten down to 160 thanks to CrossFit; good for you, your lifestyle doesn't bother me, but JFC if they aren't thinking about it, talking about it, or waiting for someone else to bring it up.

I'm with ya.
At first glance, it's easy to be upset that we passed on the favorite for rookie of the year. That would have been a great way to inject some internal and external enthusiasm and hype about this team.
Then you realize that Cheeks/Loyer/saboteurs on the roster wouldn't have developed any rookie from this ho-hum draft class properly, empty stats or not.
I've gone on the record before saying that an MCW/Knight backcourt is preferrable to a Jennings/Stuckey or KCP or Singler setup that we have now, in nearly all ways, but it would have just been a start, not the solution.

It's just psychology. We're programmed to to have more potent and easily recalled unpleasant memories than pleasant ones.
It's also personal. Joe Dumars has led me down the path of drinking to forget. I can't help if the good old days of six years ago got swept up in the mercy blackout.

I typed up a pretty long post but then my browser randomly went back a page (does this happen to anybody else?) and I lost it.
The tl; dr was
The guy operated under the eyeball test and trusting word of mouth. He telegraphed his man crushes on both free agents and draft picks, broadcasting his preference for Stuckey/Darko/Daye for weeks in advance and Webber/McGrady/Smith/Iverson for years.
I was a sympathizer for a long time until I realized how much luck actually went into his successes. He clung to an exhausted blueprint by keeping the 2004 core around way past its expiration date and then tried to reload using the same blueprint! He never, ever adapted to the league. The last straw was when he made the major mistake of bringing in Charlie Villanueva and Ben Gordon and then did the SAME thing four years later with Smith and Jennings.

As far as I'm aware, the only major wildcard for this year's lottery is Jabari Parker of Duke.
I'm fairly confident that Nik's draft range is pretty much set, regardless of any wrinkles caused by early entrants or kids unexpectedly returning to school.

-7th or 8th is too high for Stauskas. He's not versatile enough positionally, athletic enough to be a "potential" pick, or a solid enough defender to assure that he's an NBA contributor on nights that his shot isn't falling.

I want nine years of my life back. I am changing-my-NetFlix-rating-from-five-to-three-stars-and-never-watching-a-re run-again-and-making-sure-to-avoid-the-spin off-and-any-future-works-of-Craig Thomas-and-Carter Bays upset.
The moral of the show wasn't ~life happens~. It was about this:
Anybody can relate to that. That's a good lesson, and particularly applicable to Ted.
Instead, our takeaway is: don't worry! The one that got away will always be there after you have two kids with another woman, because, after all, that woman didn't want kids with you, so you should meet a lovely lady and put her reproductive system to work while your "friend", who also didn't believe in marriage and always had problems committing to you and frequently put her career ahead of her love life, well, she's going to marry your best friend and you're going to wind up with his sloppy fourths after they divorce, but it's okay, because you're old and grey now and you both really don't have other options!
(the run on sentences are no less sloppy than the execution of the finale or the final season, for that matter)
That's a great premise for a show. /s
That's neither sit-com "awww fuzzy feeling"-inducing nor is it a thought-provoking lesson. It's sad. I spent the latter half of the series not believing my eyes and ears each time Ted kept coming back to Robin, getting tired of the old plot device, and they pair them together after she's virtually undergone NEGATIVE character development and been spayed to the point that even Barney was too good for her?

My general thought is: if an offered kid come takes an unofficial from out of state and wants to commit, we shouldn't be worried about the rest of our offer board, we should just be happy that we're snagging a kid from USC with VT and Clemson and WVU offers.

I'm aware. Are you implying that all injured players are overpaid and their salaries are forfeit?
I think a guy that had to earn his respect and oppotunities every step of the way is entitled to rehab rather than retire. He's not a Rashard Lewis type that got that big contract and then ceased to improve or dedicate himself to the game.

Nash has made an average of 7.62 million per year in his 18 years. For a guy that has won two MVPs, been named to 7 All-NBA teams, 8 All-Star games, and wasn't even a full-time starter until he was 26, you can argue that he's been underpaid.
Can't blame him.

I was going to edit my first post in this thread to say this.
Kobe's played 220 postseason games, which is 2.68 full NBA season, plus played on two Olympics teams and in a FIBA tournament. The guy's longevity has been phenomenal to witness. He's joining Stockton, Reggie Miller, Malone, and Duncan as guys I've been in awe of as they've gracefully aged.

No, I'm content with my phrasing.
The "next MJ" is a prototype, a 6'6"ish 200ish pound SG, not a 6'9" 260 pound SF who was drafted as a PG and is transitioning to PF.
LeBron may end up with more accolades by virtue of playing straight out of HS (compared to MJ coming out after his JR year) and not having two pseudo-retirements that cost him almost 5 entire seasons and not losing a season to injury (85-86).
Kobe has patterned his entire career after Michael's. LeBron drew more from Magic Johnson and Oscar Robertson. They are an apple and an orange.
|5 weeks 3 days ago||Say what you will about his||
Say what you will about his personality and actions off-court (and I'm sure some of you will), but I respect Kobe most of all active players. His work ethic, stamina, and consistency are second to none.
It's a shame he was injured this year, because in 12-13 the guy put up 27/6/6 in 39 minutes as a 34 year old. For comparison's sake, Michael Jordan put up 29/6/4 at the same age. I've heard people ask "who is the next MJ?" ever since I've followed the sport, but Kobe's the closest thing we'll ever see.
