I think I remember Don Lund being in the booth with Ufer. He never said much, only when Ufer would ask him questions or make a comment directed at him.

I couldn't agree with you more. It is not time to panic. Just dig in for the future. These coaches gave us 11-2 in a season no one was expecting such a good result. Give them time to implement their system with their players.

Funk turned David Molk into a Rimington Award winner. Was anyone talking about him in those terms under the previous staff? With guys who were experienced in 2011 the team produced two 1000 yard rushers. The team stepped back in 2012 with the loss of Molk on offense and Martin and Van Bergen on defense. I really believe youth and less talented recruits from the RR era are the issue. 2011 was not an accident. These guys came in and turned a 7-6 squad into an 11-2 squad. I think we need to give it a couple years. All of these coaches deserve a full five years to turn the program around. I wasn't expecting us to go back either, but given the state of recruiting, especially in 2010 it makes sense.

This team is really not very good at all. I am disappointed in Hoke for not gambling more in O.T. The team that gambled won. I rarely say this about Michigan, but they really did not deserve to win. The defense failed when we needed a play with 37 seconds left and Penn State with no timeouts.

I hate the word "classy." Can we just say they were "good sports" or "showed integrity"? I'd much rather have integrity than class. What the hell does "classy" even mean?

I became a fan of Dileo when he caught the fourth quarter third down pass in 2011 against OSU and saved the drive. That was the first big game must catch he made. Then there was the catch he made against MSU to set up the winning field goal last year. He is tough and makes clutch receptions in big games. He's one of my favorites on this team. I also like his understated southern drawl.

This post has me much more unsettled than the last ennui one. We can never undo any of those horrible events: the Horror and Toledo especially stick in the craw. Michigan, the greatest college football program ever, could never again say we never lost to a I AA or MAC team. Bo never wanted to schedule those kind of games because he said nothing good could come from them win or lose. The end of the Carr years was painful, not just the Horror, but especially with his inability to beat Tressel, and just when you thought we hired a hot new coach who would restore our hope it got worse. Ugh. It takes courage to stare into this abyss.

I was at U of M from 1977 to 1981. Carter was the greatest. It wasn't until Bo took the passing connection Wangler to Carter to Pasadena that he won a Rose Bowl. I think those two got Bo to change his coaching philosophy. Seems like his `80s teams made better use of the pass.
I'll never forget the change in emotion at that '79 Indiana game. I had just said to one of my friends, "Great, we're going to kiss our sister on homecoming." The next play was Carter's touchdown. Everybody in the stadium, including Bo was jumping up and down. I remember at the band show after the game Carl Grapentine said, "We salute the shell-shocked Hoosiers of Indiana," when they played their fight song.
I met Carter once outside of Dooley's at closing time. Really nice guy. Thanks for the memories, Ace.

I don't think it shows a lot of integrity to rejoice in the suffering of others. And the U of M ideal is integrity. I'm as susceptible to schadenfreude as the next person when a rival loses a game or a recruiting battle, but this is someone's personal tragegy. We've had ex-players in this situation, too. Billy Taylor, e.g.
And for the record:

I get the impression these coaches are really good at (1) spotting talent in the raw and (2) developing raw talent. That's what I think is going on here.

Let's stop using the words "classy" and "class" to mean "sophisticated" or "integrity". That would be a great way to distinguish oursleves from RCMB
|1 year 20 weeks ago||This loss had the same marks||
This loss had the same marks of the losses to ND and Neb. On the road, turnover festival and calls for Borges' job. Unfortunately, these seem to define team 133's legacy. This team missed difference makers on the lines. No Mike Martin, no Rimington award winning David Molk. I think a lot of the mistakes and breakdowns on the o line aided the skill players' underperformance in all those games. Probably also in the 'Bama game. The defense was good, but lacked a dominating player. I hated this loss today, but I don't believe we are headed in the wrong direction. It seems pretty bleak, especially with them winning so many in the last decade, but in the Brady Hoke era we are 1-1 and he is recruiting well. After all the depression of the last twelve years, I do believe, even if I'm not feeling it right now, we will not be dominated by Ohio in the future.
