This makes my eyes water.

10 weeks 6 days ago haha me too!

haha me too.  I found myself smiling and then being a bit embarassed when my fiance asked what i was smiling about.

14 weeks 4 days ago he didn't recieve an offer from OSU but that wasn't really

he didn't recieve an offer from OSU but that wasn't really the point.  I am not condoning what he said or that it is the right thing to do.  I am not even saying that everyone from Michigan should like the kid or even not be upset by his comments.  My only problem has been the increasing trend for fans to publicly insult, berate, or otherwise make comments on twitter that aren't necessary or warrented.

I still care about michigan-manness (i like that term) but even if someone doesn't live up to my expectations, or hopes it is not my place to scold him.  He has coaches and parents and if something is severe enough even cops.

14 weeks 4 days ago Great to hear and not just because of football

Great to hear that he is doing well and not just because of football.  Traumatic injuries and the resultant sugery like what he went though can have increadible impacts on a person's life.  Hope he recovers and gets back to 100% and never has any complications down the road.

14 weeks 4 days ago Are you serious?

I honestly can't tell if you are serious or being sarcastic.

I hope you are being sarcastic a high school kid shouldn't have to defend an innocuous statement such as "I like Ohio" even once let alone twice.  Especially when that kid is already committed to Michigan.

14 weeks 4 days ago Social Media has been getting way too carried away this year

Before this year i naively thought that our fanbase was above the juvenille responses that we mocked so vigerously when they were coming from ohio fans and were directed at Kalis.

Unfortunately I have been embarassed by some of the crazies in our fanbase and by sportsfans in general this year.  Between the backlash from this and even worse what was directed at Dawson after his decomitment I really have come to hate twitter.

He should absolutely not have needed to respond or apologize for saying that he liked ohio.  Obviously even if he meant OSU he still likes Michigan better considering he committed here.  My god people need to get some perspective on life and stop this crazyness.

14 weeks 5 days ago A lot of NFL teams use both

A lot of NFL teams use both man and zone blocking schemes.  In an ideal world you would utilize both concepts depending on situation, goal, defense, ect.  Unfortunately, in college it is difficult because you only have players for a limited time and OL is a very complex position to learn.

14 weeks 5 days ago Didn't know that Borges used it before...

Didn't know Borges used the pistol at SDSU, but then again I don't really know much about any of what Borges used before here other than what I have heard second hand.

I know you don't need a running QB to utilize the pistol offense the benifit is really in the balance between the pass and the run.  The RB is able to start moving downhill a little before getting the ball in the power game and doesn't tip strength to one side.  At the same time the QB gains some of the benifits of the shotgun in that drops are less and they have improved vision of the feild compared to under center.  I think it's this combination that intrigues me, hopefully we can effectively use that balance to greatly improve our play action passing game.

14 weeks 5 days ago last year Borges was still trying to learn

last year Borges was still trying to learn how to run a spread offense, and how to utilize Denard effectively.  It would be a bit much to incorporate even more new offensive strategies/formations/plays.  There is only so much that you can implement as a coordinator and teach to the players in a given time.  I imagine the focus of the offense will be shifting towards something Borges is more comfortable running and that allows him to add some different things to his playbook this year.

It would have been a lot to ask of him to learn two new systems in a year.  It is not going to be suddenly finding the light but I think Borges will gradually incorporate new things.

14 weeks 5 days ago Always though the pistol offense was kinda cool

It would be interesting to see some pistol formations mixed into the offense.  I know how much Borges loves to mix up formations.  I am thinking some pistol double stacks.

14 weeks 6 days ago signing day feels like christmas

19 weeks 17 hours ago Early season losses cause bigger swings

Early season losses cause bigger swings in the rankings. We played them first game of the year so of course we fell farther. At the end of the day ND is still a one loss team.

23 weeks 4 days ago My mistake

My mistake don't know what I was thinking. None the less it is a very rare and impressive feat

23 weeks 4 days ago Number 1 overall in the draft

It is tough to compare to Jake Long as he still stands as the only offensive lineman in history to go number 1 overall in the draft.  I am not sure that Lewan can live up to that, but then again who can?  I will say that Lewan is one of the best offensive lineman we have ever had and that is a very presitgious group of people coming from Michigan.  He is now the second person in a row to wear 77 and earn first team all American honors.

24 weeks 4 days ago I hope not

24 weeks 4 days ago i could watch this all day

I could watch this all day

24 weeks 4 days ago You may be gettin a bit ahead of yourself

I think you may be getting a little bit ahead of yourself.  I agree the potential for the future looks especially bright, but I don't know that recruiting rankings are enough for us to go calling for a national champion contender.

25 weeks 14 hours ago Pursuing might be a bit strong

From what I saw there is that the Michigan coaches are in cotact with him and the only way we even know that is because the kids inserted Michigan in a list of schools that he is talking to off of the top of his head.  To me this is similar to freaking out with speculations based off of tweets from high school recruits.

25 weeks 17 hours ago Beating Northwestern that way is the natural way of things

25 weeks 19 hours ago He didnt seem worried last year

When Alabama didn't win their division and still was able to go to the BCS National Championship

25 weeks 1 day ago Extremely touching writing

I really appreciate you posting this diary.  I think it is important to realize there is more to life than sports and to keep in mind that all of our actions, even those that seem trivial at the time can have profound impacts.

25 weeks 2 days ago That is terrifying

That is terrifying.  Texas A&M is not a team I would want to see us play right about now.  I am not sure our "number 1 pass defense" would hold up.

25 weeks 2 days ago Agreed

The biggest difference from last year is definitely Molk.  However, I really think that it is not his blocking that we are missing most but rather his recognition and communication skills.  Communication and intelligence are two of the most important aspects of OL play.  With Molk gone there really isn't anyone on the interior who provides that kind of leadership.

25 weeks 2 days ago True there was concers

but on the other hand we also have several returning starters including an estimated first round draft pick in Lewan at LT.  In addition to that we have a 4 year veteran in Omameh, Scholfield who preformed at a fairly high level at LG last year and looks the part of a tackle and Barnum who was started several games throughout his time here at Michigan despite constant nagging injuries.  Our Lack of experience concerned me at the begining of the year but honestly I was more worried about our depth and not the ability of our starters.  I was only really worried about center and the absense of Molk initially.

Question marks asside many people projected our OL to be one of our strengths before the beginning of the season, including a great many people on this blog.  Although I was not quite so optomistic the point I was trying to make is that the potential was there.  I am of the opinion that the potential seen at the beginning of the season never really went away but rather this unit has continiously had trouble with the mental aspect of OL play.

25 weeks 2 days ago I am not sure this is completely correct

I agree that people may be over reacting about O-Line coaching, but OL was supposed to be one of our strengths this year.  I think our line does have talent besides Lewan, what has been missing is not the ability to block people once engaged.  While OSU's DL is very good and probably the best we have seen all year blocking has been a consistant problem.  I think that the key problem facing this unit is lack of leadership and experience.  Molk was an invaluable part of our offense in his role at center.  Not only was he an exceptional blocker but more importantly he was extremely intellegent and was good at recognizing pressure and communicating blocking assignments.  This year the problem has been the OL knowing who to block.  The most common problems have been strait up misses by the OL.  Center is one of the most difficult positions to replace because if its demands regarding communication and blocking calls.  We will see how our line comes together in the next few years, much of how that turns out will be on coach Funk.

25 weeks 2 days ago you keep using that word...

25 weeks 3 days ago For sure, I want a gif of it

For sure, I want a gif of that hit and if it is possible I want to put that gif as my desktop wallpaper so that I can watch it 100x a day.

25 weeks 5 days ago Agreed

I am a Lions fan and I hate watching Suh.  Too much dirty play, it's terrible.

26 weeks 1 day ago Based on what?

Do you know the guy personally? How do you know that he only cares about himself. Seems a but premature to state that. Why don't we just reserve judgment until later. Oh yeah and maybe pay less attention to the kids twitter.

Man I hope I get fired like that someday. You suck, here's 5 million bucks.

26 weeks 3 days ago That could also explain the NW game

He had a worse than usual performance I wonder if that may have also been injury related.  An injury could explain the unusually high PT for Ross that game and some of Morgan's performance.

Hope he rests up and comes back healthy for OSU.  I am really excited for our LB core over the next few years.  Doesn't seem like Morgan is only a sophmore.

26 weeks 3 days ago I agree

Great content it is awesome to have a meteorologists pissing on mgoblog keep it up!

26 weeks 5 days ago I agree with Hoke

People know how much Denard has meant to this program.  He has been an outstanding person and teammate while remaining dedicated to Michigan.  The last three years have shown that to be true over and over.  I don't really think he needs a "symbolic play" for people to remember him or for his career to be meaningful.  Don't get me wrong, I would love nothing more than to see him trot out onto that feild healthy and lead his team to victory over Iowa, but that being said I would not want to jeprodize his health or risk any adverse consequenses of sending him in to a game if he is not in fact fit to play.  Nerve injuries are difficult things to judge and if he doesn't take it easy until it is fully healed it could have long lasting reprocussions.  I love denard too much to have him lose it all on a symbolic but ultimately meaningless gesture.

26 weeks 5 days ago Agree. I think it really depends on the system and coaches

"Maximizing reps" is inherently a good thing.  I would assume that every coach would want to maximize the number of quality reps their atheletes are able to take.  That being said the way each coach does this will be influence by a huge number of things such as: offensive and defensive system, coaching philosiphy, team experience, and pripary practice goals.

In the case of Kelly his practice style makes sense.  He runs a no huddle offense that is predicated on speed, and tempo.  Running practice with loud music, at high pace, with little verbal communication is a good idea.  He is managing to acheive high number of reps as well as physically condition his players and make no huddle communication effective.  Clearly this system works for him.  It may be helpful that Kelly's offense is not extremely complex.

On the other hand, coach Hoke has a different phylosophy.  He instead focuses on physicality and fundementals.  To this end he runs a slower paced practice with hard hitting drills and teaches technique often.  He is still "maximizing reps" but in a different way.  I think that Hoke and co. have been quite succesful as well.

26 weeks 5 days ago This

Kovacs this year is the guy who I would really like to see coach someday.  I am not sure that he has a future in the NFL due to his athleticism.  What has made him such a great player has been his ability to play extremely smart and maximize his potential.

Last year I would have loved to see RVB stay on as a grad assistant for similar reasons.  He was also very football smart and I think he would have made a great DL coach in the future.  Heck, Mattison even let RVB call stunts on the line; one such call was apparently the reason for the Purdue sack last year.

26 weeks 5 days ago It is interesting to see his season totals for 2011

I think a lot of people have the impression that Denard took a step back in 2011 compared to 2010 due to the transition from RRs offense to Borges's but his totals for both running and passing are higher.  Although in 2010 Tate probably accounts for the difference between the two years as he was subbed in frequently.

27 weeks 1 day ago I wonder if this guy posed for Worthy

I wonder if this guy posed, standing on a golpher in a Mizzu helmate for Worthy's tattoo

27 weeks 1 day ago This

I thought it was a little odd and somewhat anoying but then I moved on.  It is not a big deal and it had literally no impact on the game whatsoever, for better or worse.

27 weeks 1 day ago Nope, but I have never left a game early

Nope, but then again I have never left a game early.  I always feel like I owe it to the players to stick it out with them, fan support can have a huge impact in a close game at the end.  In fact I think people leaving early from MSU when they were playing Nebraska was played a role in them losing that game.

When watching on TV though I have probably shut off a game early, although I can't remember any specific game that I regretted.  I almost turned stopped watching the ND game last year and I am SO glad that I stuck it out.

27 weeks 1 day ago It almost looks like Hoke is going to punch him

The intensity on Hoke's face makes it almost look like Hoke is going to punch the cop.

27 weeks 2 days ago Sorry to see you go.

Sorry to see you go I think that you have preformed admirably in your time as a mod.  Congrats on the kud and enjoy the freedom.

34 weeks 2 days ago I agree this game sucked but it was not as bleak as many people

This game sucked but it was notas bleak as many people are making it out to be.  Our offense did a reasonable job marching down the feild against an ND defense that MSU could do absolutely nothing against but was killed by turnovers in the red zone.  Hell even if we are held to feild goals on all of those red zone trips we could have won.

Also I though our defense looked suprisingly good especially given the fact that we gave their offense so many une3xpected opprotuinities.  I think this was probably the best defensive game we have had all year.  Yes we lost but to a much improved ND team where we shot ourselves in the foot a lot.

35 weeks 2 days ago Why are all of the players croches in focus

and everything else is all blurry and hipstery.  Does instagram do that on its own or was that an intentional feature of these images?

35 weeks 2 days ago That is pretty interesting

Thanks for bringing up some of those numbers and drawing that comparison.  I did not realize that similarity.  I am still worried about our defensive line but that is all based on just watching real time.  I guess it also speaks to how well our coaches did throughout the season last year. There is still plenty of time and I hope our three DLine coaches can work some magic.  Of course like many people I beleived that during this season we would have a better team with a worse record than last year and unfortunately that is still likely the case.

35 weeks 2 days ago I hear this all the time about FSU

but when is the last time FSU had actually played up to their expectations.  FSU is going to have a letdown somewhere and will prove themselves to be worse than everybody thinks.

37 weeks 20 hours ago Who he reads is also dependent on the type of defense

Who he reads is also dependent on the type of defense the other team is running.  In a traditional 4-3 you are right the DE is almost always the read (although sometimes this is not true as mentioned before) but for the 3-4 the read could very commonly be a linebacker.

37 weeks 1 day ago True but I am not sure Saban's defense

True but I am not sure Saban's defense is the best indicator of Denard's ability to read a defense.  That 3-4 bama runs is very complex and can confuse even the most experienced QB and cause bad reads.  I am still hopefull that he will some improvement overall this year when faced with a less complex sceme such as Iowa's 4-3 cover 2.

37 weeks 4 days ago I am a huge fan of Pipkins as well but...

I really don't think that he will crack the starting line-up at all this year.  The expectations for Pipkins seem to be a bit too high.  It is not that I think Pipkins is not going to be a great asset for us but rather more about the transition from High School to College.   The jump to college is especially high on both sides of the line, making starting freshman at this position very rare.

Pipkins is a great athelete and I really can't overstate how much I like him as a recruit but he has a HUGE amount of progress and development needed to compete with his older more experienced competition.  Not only does he need some physical development and conditioning but more importantly he needs to learn technique and learn the defense.  The extra weight is less of a concern than technique.  Most DL recruits that are highly touted like Pipkins are used to dominating their opponents physically but in college to be effective you NEED good technique.  Is it possible? Sure, Lamarr Woodley and Brandon Graham both contributed as freshman.  I certainly hope that Pipkins can develop that quickly and contribute this year and even turn out like one of those guys.

37 weeks 4 days ago Really, all of my favorite memories come from our defense

Sacks, interceptions, TFLs, but most of all Woodly returning a fumble for a TD.  That was probably one of the most memorable moments of my freshman year.  Love to see big guys score.

37 weeks 5 days ago Wow I can't beleive Nebraska and Wisco

I can't beleive that Nebraska and Wisco are actually going to wear those absolutely hideous jerseys.  I don't know who designed them or who approved them both get an EPIC FAIL for those jerseys.  Even when we have terrible alternate uni's (ie the evil bumble bee that was MSU) they are still nowhere near that bad.

38 weeks 5 days ago That exact line of thought is what list us the first game.

That is the exact type of thinking that made "the horror" possible in the first place. I mean in 2007 we weren't exactly short on talent on either side of the ball.

39 weeks 9 hours ago I love the Block M on the sleeves

I love the Block M on the sleeves these unis were awesome!

39 weeks 9 hours ago I completely agree I hate the new logo

I think the new B1G is the worst looking logo of any conference.  I wish they could have just figured out a way to hide a 12 in the BigTen like they did with 11 before Nebraska joined.

39 weeks 4 days ago I agree with most of you're post

How a team manages their punishment has no bearing on it's merit. This is not to say that I think the NCAA has been fair with their punishments.

39 weeks 5 days ago I think a lot of people are underestimating the impact of RVB

I don't think there is really too much of a question about BWC and MM as many people have already pointed out how great of an athlete MM was his senior year and how disruptive he was at nose.  However, I also think that the OP and many other people are underestimating the impact that RVB had in the game.  He was not as pysically talented but I recal from several different sources hearing about his intelligence and his leadership.  MM himself said that RVB would call out the plays that our opponents were about to run because he watched so much game film and Greg Mattison even trusted him enough to allow him to call out stunts on the line.  That kind of football smarts can go a long way to improving production.  This is especially true on the line where communication is critical.  I am not sure with the inexperience on this years line if anyone can really fill that role for the team.

40 weeks 1 day ago Zing!

40 weeks 4 days ago God I miss Cooper

He has to be my favorite OSU coach.

41 weeks 17 hours ago I really like how BWC has grown

It really seems that BWC has grown up a lot.  I don't have any real knowledge of what he was like before but he was reportedly kinda lazy and immature, I don't seen or here any of that this year.  I am pretty optimistic about him this year, hopefully we will see much more of him running over centers.  Good interview.

42 weeks 5 days ago don't forget about clemson

Clemson also consistantly preforms below their talent level

46 weeks 6 days ago I though he looked good overall

but he really seems more suited to zoe coverage than man to me, but maybe I am mistaken.  Does anyone else have any thoughts on this.

49 weeks 1 day ago This just made me like the Red Hot Chili Peppers

This just made me like the Red Hot Chili Peppers way more than I did before.

50 weeks 5 days ago Some people take football WAY too seriously

God I hate OSU fans.  I cannot imagine what sort of insane fantasy world they live in.

1 year 5 days ago totally agree

I don't think the writer realizes that some people may not want to play football for their entire lives.  I he just doesn't want to play anymore or want to study law more how could you call that  a mistake?  Also law school has a much more sustainable earning potential than being an undrafted free agent.

1 year 6 days ago I don't know about that

It is true that RVB doesn't have the same big play ability and is not nearly as visible as a player but he still deserves to be on this list.  I mean Mattison trusted RVB enough his senior year to let him call stunts on the line and what is more is that Mike Martin respected his oppinion enough to listen and go along with it.  You cannot underestimate how big of an impact that kind or leadership and football intelligence has on the line.

1 year 6 days ago 1) Jake Long

Jake Long was great.  I could never get enough of him pancaking DEs and them helping them up after the play.

1) Jake Long

2) Woodley (his touchdown still sticks in my head)

3) Hart (but RVB/Martin are both close here)

1 year 1 week ago That is what shocked my too

Kelly is a terrible coach and an even worse person.  He had some success in the MAC and at Cinci but he has clearly managed to keep with the ND tradition of taking top talent to mediocre places.

1 year 2 weeks ago Yeah true

I was just writing too fast.  I could go back and fix it but oh well.

1 year 2 weeks ago Thats great

It's great because it gives Shane an opprotuinity to showcase himself but much more importantly it is great because he now has an opprotuinity to get coach from very experienced quarterback coaches early on.  This will really help his development and I think should really help he touch and seeing how good he is already that is a very exciting prospect.

1 year 2 weeks ago No he didn't pull the offer

Hoke just told him that he was not considered a commit if he chose to visit other schools and that his position would not be held.

1 year 2 weeks ago Eliminating stress was just to make a point

I mentioned eliminating stress just to make a point not as a real suggestion.  Although there are many ways to avoid stress based on you work environment, sleep schedule, family life, and a hundred other factors.

Your second point is an over simplification of a complex sequence of events.  Everything we do changes the structure of our brain and most of the changes cannot be "repaired" in the sense of the word.  Regardless, I think you may be missing my point a bit.  My point was not to say that stress is bad and therefore get rid of it.  My point was that causative inferances based on incomplete knowledge and missinformation should not be made.  There is simply not enough data to support the kind of conclusions that people seem to be jumping too following this issue.

Yes, football has the potential to cause damage to the brain and it is an unfortunate risk of the game.  That being said we should condem football all together due to a possibility of undesirable outcomes.  Lots of people die falling down stairs should we get rid of them? how about cars there is an obvious risk there? fast food and poor diet lead to one of the most prominent problems in America today, obesity, which is a risk factor for diabetes, heart disease, depression, strokes, and cancers. So should we make everyone avoid the risk of unhealthy food? I say no.

1 year 2 weeks ago That's fair.

That's fair.  There is nothing wrong with wanting to prevent brain injury.  Repeated blows to the head can certainly had detrimental effects and it is up to everyone individually as to how they weigh those risks.

1 year 2 weeks ago I am not convinced by the media

I am not convinced by the media storm that has followed Junior Seau's death.  I am not trying to be disrespectful about the situation or dissmiss the tragedy of a persons death.  However, the media has been portraying his death as the direct result of depression caused by repeated concussions.  The simple fact of the matter is that correlation does not equal causation.  Just because the man played football and was depressed does not meen that football = depressions.

Major depressive dissorder is suprisingly prevelant in today's society, around 5-13% of the population is affected by major depressive disorder.  So far as I have seen there has not been near enough data collected to even generate a predictive correlation between brain injury and depression.  Stress is actually a much better predictor of depression.  Multiple studies have shown that chronic high stress can be predictive for depression, futhermore the mechanism by which stress can lead to depression has been established by multiple groups. With this in mind I would say that high stress jobs/lifestyles have lead to many more tragedies than football.  Does that mean that we should completely restructure our entire society and eliminate high stress jobs because of the potential link between stress, depression, and suicides.  I don't think that is realistic.

Again, I am not trying to be dissrespectfull of anything.  I am just trying to get people to really think about the situation and not to be swayed so easily by the media and a few NFL stars pointing to the game of football and blaming it for one man's death.  It is short sighted and dismisses the entirety of his life aside from a game.

1 year 3 weeks ago That was pretty nice

Although i have to admit that I liked the Avengers-Michigan mashup that you did better better.

1 year 3 weeks ago I wouldn't really call it a failure

I wouldn't really call not being a first round draft pick a failure by any means.  The vast majority of atheletes do not even get drafted and there are huge numbers of players that contribute hevily in the NFL after being drafted after the first round.  I would say that instead that is a pretty high rate of astonishing success.

1 year 3 weeks ago Yeah that is a good point.

Traditional uniforms are the best no doubt about it.  I personally have always kinda liked Penn State's white on white look and I hate when when we ware crazy versions of old uniforms.  On the other hand I think that Oregon has really done a nice job with the new uniform every week approach, although some of them are hit and miss.  I really think that new uniforms are not universally "bad" or "good" to any particular generation but are hit or miss for each group.

1 year 6 weeks ago Man Dawson looks to be in a league of his own

Dawson looks to be in a league of his own compared to the other offensive linemen both in terms of size and technique.  I have always heard of him being more of a run blocking lineman but his pass block punch looks really good.  He was dominant in the 1v1s which is saying something because those drills somewhat favor the defensive player.  I am really excited about this kid now considering I didn't know much about him before.

1 year 6 weeks ago Do you really think that we will miss out

Do you really think that we will miss out on highly ranked recruits because they will have to compete to earn playing time.  I can't believe that any high profile program offers kids guaranteed playing time right away.  There is just no way they would be able to live up to that kind of promise.  Hopefully, the vast majority of highly ranked recruits realize this reality and have a competitive nature anyway.

1 year 6 weeks ago God I love coach Hoke

God I love coach Hoke and his focus on both the offensive and defensive lines.  I wonder why a colts radio show would have him on of all people though.  Not complaining I love interviews from any source.

1 year 6 weeks ago Don't completely discount BWC

Don't completely discount BWC.  He has shown a number of times that when he is motivated enought he is a disruptive force of some note.  His biggest problem has been consistancy and attitude from all acounts (including his own) and I think this coaching staff has really inspired him to turn that around.  I bet we will see BWC blow up some centers this year.

EDIT: Damn you beat me to it.

1 year 16 weeks ago Damn tendon injury

I freaked out on the very first play of the Sugar Bowl when he was not in at center.  Such bad timing and to be injured during pregame is just so flukey (is that right?).  He already has an uphill battle for the NFL because of his size and this is just going to make the people in the NFL more concerned.  Some team is going to get a steal on him fairly late in the draft.

1 year 16 weeks ago Completely agree

Of all of the players that did press interviews with any regularity Molk was by far my favorite to watch.  You could tell that he hated the press and he came out and said as much on more than one occasion.  Yet despite his distaste he was always very well spoken and seemed to convey the type of intelligent leadership that is crucial on the offensive line.  I also loved hearing him talk about coach Hoke this year.

1 year 16 weeks ago What is there to wonder

Even Urban can't deny great Michigan coaches.  He just wants to win.

1 year 16 weeks ago Voted

1 year 17 weeks ago I could see him having early playing time

That does not mean starting but he could be worked in on some situations and I am sure that he would see playing time on special teams.  Saying early playing time doesn't suggest that he is going to start in his first year it just means that he will get a chance to see the feild every once and a while.

1 year 17 weeks ago Good Luck to him

I am not gonna spend too much time judgeing him or trying to determine his motives.  I like every single play we have recruited for this class so I am defenately not happy to see him go but he seems like a respectful kid who made a tough choice.

1 year 17 weeks ago I wouldn't say that he defended it

more like he dismissed it.  I think he was probably just trying to say that fans are butal and that it has nothing to do with the game.  He mentioned that if he knew who it was or found out that he would throw them out of the izzone.  The Michigan stuff was pointless and he should have just left it alone but its not a big deal by any means.  Should be funny to have Tom Izzo through Gholsten out of the Izzone though.

1 year 17 weeks ago Switch #1 and #2

then I would pretty much agree...

1 year 17 weeks ago I've know Izzo for a long time personally,

and I have never seen anything that makes me think too poorly of him.  I listened to the presser too and although I think that he was slightly disrespectful I don't think it was terrible.  He was just kinda rambling about the things his team and himself could have done better.  He holds his guy to pretty high standard and their basketball team doesnt have the same dirty play their football team does.  We really shouldn't be all that suprised when a rival is upset with a loss by one point.

1 year 17 weeks ago Agreed

I completely agree.  The whole situation is atrocious and lets not be those guys.

1 year 17 weeks ago Too Bad

This all happened and he had to be dismmissed from the team.  I wish him the best.  I was actually quite impressed with the maturity and understanding the quote from Stonum showed especially for someone who has just been dismissed from the team.  hopefully it is a sign of increased maturity and lead to better decision making in the future.

1 year 18 weeks ago Hmm poor decision making

Seems like that would fit perfectly with being a quarterback at ND.

1 year 18 weeks ago As I recall...

Payton was really high on us at one point and we were expecting him to commit until he visited ND and pushed back his decision like three time before eventually committing to cal.  Is there really any chance of regaining his interest and even if there is do we have room for him in this current class with two WRs already committed?  Other than Payton I don't specifically remember either having a huge interest in Michigan.  Although that would be a great suprise to have Shaq be a suprise on signing day.

1 year 18 weeks ago sorry

sorry double post

1 year 18 weeks ago I did not boycott it

but I didn't watch it either.  It was more out of boredom than principal.  I am a little worried about the prospect of denard facing that Alabama defense but that is mostly because of what I saw with Al against teams with agressive dominant defenses.  Still optomistic though.  Can't help but to think this team is trending up despite losing some of my favorite all time wolverines in Junior, Martin and RVB.

1 year 18 weeks ago Somewhat surprised by both polls

Although know how I would rank teams because I dont have information with teams outside of the big ten to see three team from the B1G ranked that far above WVU is suprising.  Not complaining at all and I think the rankings are fair all around.  MSU vs Michigan is too close to call for me and I am satisifed with being above them in the coaches and below in the AP, seems to justify me own feelings about the season.

1 year 19 weeks ago Couldn't agree more...

Everything I have heard from Beamer makes me think that he is a great coach who runs that program right.  I didn't really know much about him or VT before the sugar bowl but what a great group.  Also he certainly is not lacking disipline... that bus trip would have been horrible.

1 year 30 weeks ago Mattison's biggest strength

I think that Mattison's biggest strength as a defensive coordinator at the college level is his proven ability to recruit.  This does not have any real impact this year but you can see the change already in the 2012 class.  A class that is top 5 in the country at the moment and just filled with defensive talent.  His impact will be clearly evident in two more years.

1 year 30 weeks ago My first thought

When I saw the players come out in those jerseys for the game my first thought is that we were wearing them mostly because of problems with our normal game jerseys.  You know the sort of problems that cause half the team to change uniform at halftime like we saw during the NW game.  I don't know, it might just be wishful thinking on my part that we had a possible reason for wearing those hideous bee costumes.

1 year 31 weeks ago It was an important lesson

I agree the future is bright.  I am crazy excited to see what this team becomes in two years.  I think Hoke is a great coach and hires great coordinators.  So far this season we have not truely been tested other than at Notre Dame.  This loss certainly provides a great deal of information on the areas where we are weak and that will ultimately be helpful if we want to beat a much bigger rival than MSU.

1 year 31 weeks ago Why?

I think the coaches and player should be taking the high road.  There is no reason to start pointing fingers and calling out players after a game.  The only thing that happens when you choose not to take the high road is that you look weak and seem to be making excuses.  The plays speak for themselves and anyone who watched the game knows what happened.

1 year 31 weeks ago I agree

Lewan was keeping him on the ground while the play was still live but that is how you finish plays as a lineman.

1 year 31 weeks ago That's bad but...

There was really no danger for Lewan in that situation.  I am sure that Lewan can get punched like that all day and just be pissed off but what Gholsten did against Denard was an attempt to end a players career.  That kind of play is unacceptable in my mind.

1 year 31 weeks ago No

Denard has had some troubles but remember that there was a 30+ mph wind today on the feild.  That would mess with anyone's accuracy.  Also Denard's other talents and his experience more than make up for his less than perfect passing.
