I think that the only concern Urban had when hiring and what Johnson might have known is what recruits could he poach from a class or two from a recruiting perspective. He has never been known to really do a very good job of worrying about vetting a players past either based upon the tire fire he left in Gainsville.

Unfortunately that same defensive philosophy and approach continued through 2007 for a brief 3 year hiatus of randomly assigning guys in a Michigan uniform on the field to break, bend and basically look lost, to a return to the glory of the bend but dont break concept once again returned with Hoke.
It will be interesting to see what Brown has in store for this years version.

The perception many of these kids have at this point is rather amazing...a coach whom he has never met face to face does not immediately recognize you after said coach has been to an average of two camps a day in multiple states each day over the last week with campers numbering in the hundereds at each site.
Completely surprising that he might not connect a name/face.

It would seem that not only should many of the officials be fired, but criminial charges should be pursued for any that impeded investigations.
|12 weeks 1 day ago||All Camps||
I think that the ship has already sailed on the fact that there is an "AAU" type of enviornment already with college football....maybe not quite to the level of basketball, but getting close.
The explosion of camps was happening prior to Harbaugh and Michigan, Harbaugh just happened to take camps into SEC territory which made them and by extension the recruiting process open to a significant number of kids who may only travel north once during an official visit due to financial issues and costs.
How many of these kids are now participating in the 7 on 7 camps, the regional Nike, Rivals, etc camps and the like? Many of these kids are going on tours and camps all over the country already and I am sure that the same type of "AAU" coaching/mentoring is happening at those events and visits.
Saban is trying to protect his turf from a coach who actually has the accumen to pull top players so he is a threat. Do you honestly think this would have been an issue if it had been an Eastern Michigan that had been the school scheduling camps all over?

All of these sites can help in this process. Glassdoor usually has good insight into the hiring process and questions and you may find positional and salary information there. The other two sites require data entry to develop an idea of where your position or potential position is regarding pay and benefits.

Some hustle on D to start the game....a very nice change...still having some challenges with the 3 ball though.
|23 weeks 5 days ago||In my opinion it is pretty||
In my opinion it is pretty spot on. Michigan has zero inside presence and too often seems completely absent of any coherent game plan. Irvin and Walton more often than not have down games which should be the two key leaders with Levert out. Recruiting some bigs who actually understand how to play defense, are aggressive, athletic and don't play like a powder puff football team would be greatly appreciated.

For a team that apparently focuses solely on shooting and offense, they sure seem to have a significant number of bad nights shooting

So, if the NCAA becomes so concerned on spring break "time off" for athletes, does this mean basically every single baseball, softball, track, golf etc team from DIV3 up will have to cancel trips over these times as well? It is a big case of BS "concern that they are all showing.

This is where I have a challenge with the recruiting....defense in basketball usually comes down to making more effort to out-hustle the guy in front of you. At the end of the day, it seems like the majority of recruits this team looks at are much more lanky, finesse style players that like to play outside.
It would be nice to mix in at least half the team with guys who can bang inside and play some damn defense and have that attitude all game long. Playing against the top teams seems to always lead to losing the rebounding battles at both ends of the floor and requires the team to be hot from 3 or it is a long day.
|29 weeks 6 days ago||Wrong on All Counts||
1. I was never beaten or abused growing up, I did not have to be as I had respect for authority instilled in me from day 1.
2. Child abuse is not anything I would ever condone. I have a child and have never even so much as spanked her as my wife and I have always taught her how to respect others and be accountable to her actions. She fully understands consequences for actions and respect for authority.
3. I spent years training many of these types of indviduals as a military officer. All kids need redirection and understanding at times. However; the concept of abuse ends for me at the point the student attempted to physically strike the teacher. In today's world, someone willing to become physically violent over something as simple as being asked to leave a room has more issues which include potential mental health concerns. Those situations can very quickly and unexpectedly escalate into a knife being drawn, etc. A 15 yr old could easily significantly harm or injure an adult, so please do not equate this to make statements as if this was an elementary student.
I have been in situations and handled them where you have a 17-18 yr old recruit that needs to be restrained and removed physically and I have seen what can happen when they decide to hit another person and in a few cases where a weapon was introduced.
4. As an adult you should have leverage and conduct yourself accordingly. You should maintain a clear head and act with reactions appropriate to the level of the issue happening. It appears that was attempted on not once, not twice, but at least 3-4 occasions prior to this event. IMO Wyoming Schools should have also had others involved at the point this escalted to this level to help remove the student, but if some of the other comments on the story and on Facebook are correct, everyone else was afraid to approach this student, then the administration as a whole did a disservice to both student and teacher.
|29 weeks 6 days ago||Entitlement Culture||
I am constantly surprised at the level at which parents support, enable and encourage behavior like this.
I am more than certain that the delay in reporting from what became as assault charge at after 8pm from an incident that happened six hours early was completely due to $$ signs dancing in a parents head. If my parents truly believed I had been assaulted at school by a teacher for no reason...the police would have been there 10 minutes after I told the story along with two highly pissed parents.
If my story would have included being told to leave the room twice and then following that up with taking swings at a teacher, I would have been suffering from foot up ass trauma and most likely a second round of head trauma, followed by being taken to the school to apologize for being a total dumbass.
|30 weeks 3 days ago||Agreed||
At this point it looks like the excitement of doing the camps brought out some early offers that should have been clearly of the "conditional" or evaluation type vs you can committ to Michigan now.
While I understand that Harbaugh needs to produce results, my hope would be that in the future, more of these early offers remain clearly and concisely given and that with the large staff now on hand with recruiting coordinators, etc that recruits are given the benefit of continous feedback on their exact status. One of my old CSMs in the Army shared with me that bad news gets worse with age, and it is very appropriate in these cases.

The kid can play, could argue his running is even better than Walker from a mix of balance speed and a true desire to hit anyone in his way when he needed to. Looks like he could be outstanding at a number of places on the field.
