I believe you also had Borges at UCLA as the OC for that game and Hoke coaching the Dline as well.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||??||
I live in Omaha, and my positions requires I cover all of the wonderful central states (NE, IA, KS, MO, OK, IL, MN, ND,SD,etc). It takes about 2.5hrs to get to Kansas City and around 6hrs to get to St Louis from Lincoln or Omaha. Manhattan KS is about 45min closer to each, but has nowhere near the facilities, funding, tradition or fan support that Nebraska has.
I think that the big challenge is more around Pellini and his personality/recruiting at the moment than anything else. I also get the feeling that he is close to being in a position to have a Big Ten Championship or else in Lincoln or he may be out the door. He was brought in here for his supposed defensive prowess and I think that pretty much began and ended with Suh and now that Osborne has retired and a new AD in place, I can see that changing. Callahan could recruit but he and the AD at the time were even more out of touch with the tradition and history in Lincoln than Rodriquez in AA.
If Pellini wins at least a Big Ten Championship, they will most likely at least maintain a battle with Penn State on 3/4 in the conference in recruiting when PSU exits purgatory. Even last year they had plenty of visits from big talents from CA, TX, etc during the season, so it is definitely possible to recruit to Lincoln, but the fact that Pellini is neck and neck with the doucebag in South Bend for potential to have a sideline aneurysm does not win him any points picking up the recruits. Winning more games and the backing is there to do well in Lincoln.

Maybe just hanging onto a song from the last time MSU was relevent in football on a national level......
|9 weeks 6 days ago||Passion||
One area that is the most definite item to lay at the coaches feet is the lack of passion and effort. Stauskus and Robinson disappear and appear completely disinterested if they are not hitting shots early. If you are going to play them extended minutes, get them into positions with designed plays/cuts/looks to get them going....focus on cuts to the rim, etc, something to get them fired up and in the game.
At many points, they are playing tired, so if they cannot go with at least 90% plus effort on D and rebounding, get someone else minutes who is playing with that intensity level. Lavert and McGary both seem to go 100% with effort (just need to slow down with the ball in their hands and make good fundamental plays instead of staying at 1000mph on both ends).
One thing that I do find interesting is the lack of cohesion and celebration together, as well as the lack of team chemistry. I see big plays or shots being made and instead of celebrating with a team member, all to often I see players looking for crowd approval.
Also, there are far too many times where there is no cohesion at all on offense and it turns into catch it and chuck it one on one games with long fade-away shots or shots with defenders tight for no apparent reason. Also, given the propensity for having the three players not involved in the high screen sitting out at the 3 point line, it also leads to having no one anywhere near an offensive rebound either.
These are all good kids, but I think that they need more energy, focus and leadership from the bench and when one of them starts to get into a funk, sit them down and talk them through it and I think that should also apply to Burke and Hardaway.
|10 weeks 17 hours ago||Defense??||
How about instead of defense, you put your hands in the air and stand there.
|10 weeks 17 hours ago||Observation||
It just seems like this team does not have any passion more often than not....what does it actually take to get them consistently ready to play? Burke appears disinterested and lazy with the ball, and going to too many fall away jumpers again. Robinson always looks gassed running up and down the floor, Stauskus is always bad if he is not hitting his 3s.
Also, for a team that spends sooooo much time shooting apparently, why is it soo fucking hard to hit a free throw? They rarely celebrate with each other, and I can barely remember any times when someone on the team actually got into someones face about playing hard.
It would just be great to see some fire......and god damit, Burke needs to step into a shot vs trying to hit the damn fade away... JFC.
|10 weeks 17 hours ago||WTF||
Well, at least the team is becoming more consistent on both ends of the court, unfortunately, it is trending that the offense is looking at bad as the defense.
How do you loose a lead to a team that shot around 20% in the game?????
|10 weeks 17 hours ago||Passion||
Once again, it is MIA.
|10 weeks 1 day ago||Question||
Has anyone checked to ensure that GERG is not hiding in the time-out huddles to impart his vast knowledge of motivating defensive players?
|10 weeks 1 day ago||Defense?||
Do you mean that thing other teams do when they do not have the ball? It is not as sexy as a long-range fall away contested 3 point shot, so no, no I do not know what you are talking about.
|10 weeks 1 day ago||What||
Two layups made in a row??? How is that done?
|10 weeks 1 day ago||No Passion Again||
Seriously, it is like a broken record.....Stauskus is only good if he is hitting his 3's. Robinson, Stauskus do not drop down in help defense and have given up a few easy layups due to no rotation. Very poor shot selection and reliance on long 3's with no rotation passing, etc so they are bad shots as well with no one in the lane attempting to rebound on the offensive boards.
I think I have seen this same game enough times to know how ugly this can be to watch. Michigan plays below the level of their competition in almost every game in the BIG to start the game.
|10 weeks 1 day ago||McGary||
Great steal, breakaway, and not only misses the dunk but gets knocked down by the rim.....painful to watch it.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||Big Games||
I think that the key defining item for anyone in the POY discussion should be how they played in the biggest games of the year for their team. In many cases, Burke really seemed to be too keyed up and tried to put too much on his own shoulders, which is not ideal for a point guard, let alone this discussion.
As for leading the team away from home, not even in the discussion in this case. Ohio State, MSU, Indiana, Wisconsin were the 4 biggest road games and 0-4, and then add in a loss to a winless Penn State team when the BIG was also on the line, and then add in several points in this game where the opportunities were there to cash in and I just do not think the leader of a team that cannot even win their own conference should merit consideration.
It is just my opinion, but I think that you have to win a few of those key games with the stakes on the line and in a hostile court.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||McGary||
Needs to calm down with the ball, he is trying to go 1000 miles an hour with the ball vs making a good play.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||Dunk The Ball!!!||
Damnit, dunk the damn ball
|10 weeks 5 days ago||Zeller||
Fuck, put in someone big and just have them fucking break him in two. I would honestly consider letting a T happen to send a message.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||Sheehy||
Needs a nice hard foul.....maybe two
|10 weeks 5 days ago||Shot Selection||
Michigan is once again going into a rut with forcing up shots, and Indiana is staying calm and taking open shots....why do they continue to do this for large stretches of the games? They were doing great attacking the basket, and now want to move back to heaving up fast 3s.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||Elbow||
What constitues an offensive foul with an elbow?
|10 weeks 5 days ago||Ok||
At least that time time he knocked zeller on his ass.....but Zeller was still only barely touched, he is like a girl
|10 weeks 5 days ago||Calls||
Oladipo gets waaay too much credit for being allowed to hand-check the hell out of whoever they are playing. He is a great player, but the replay of Zeller's block was after he mugged Burke going up for the shot.
Also, Zeller is being treated like he is made out of glass.....as long as they call it even up, fine, but a few ticky tack bs calls.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||Offensive Execution||
They need to make better passes, and make the extra pass. Almost all of these long shots do not even have anyone under the basket in any position for an OR. Burke also needs to slow down and stop forcing everything and let the game come to him. He still struggles for big portions of big games at getting the team involved in the game.
|11 weeks 2 days ago||Penn State||
Only win gets you a first round game.....
|11 weeks 2 days ago||Stop Comments on Growth or Lessons Learned or Better Now....||
Playing like shit is playing like shit is playing like shit. This team continuously plays without any heart....if they have not "learned this lesson" by now, it is getting damn late. With one game left in the regular season, this is now a habit and not an exception.....and they obviously have not learned shit so far, so why should that miraculously change moving forward.
This is like watching the football team with Gerg when it comes to Beilen and demanding effort in rebounding and defensive effort. You cant shoot like shit and defend like shit against anyone and expect to win.
|11 weeks 2 days ago||One player in the paint||
Only 1 player in the paint or anywhere near it on that last shot by Robinson....no fucking cohesive effort at all
|11 weeks 2 days ago||Funny||
Driving and hitting the open man works....who would have thought of that.......and then fuck, let someone drive back down the fucking middle with no help side D and just fuck
|11 weeks 2 days ago||Offensive Play||
Also, is it just the plan to let players throw up prayers in the second half? There just seems to be a lack of any cohesive plan to even do that with any strategy. It appears to be get the ball down the floor and throw something up....even that last play by Burke......drive into 3 guys and throw it up. Perfect time to hit the open man with everyone playing help on you.
|11 weeks 2 days ago||Coaching||
Sorry, but if you see this little effort, you pull people off the damn floor and sit their ass on the bench while chewing them up and spitting them out. It almost seems like they are more worried as coaches about not upsetting someone.....hell with it, tear them up, and sit down the players who put forth no effort on D and in rebounding.....both are 90% effort and heart.
|11 weeks 2 days ago||Effort||
Yet again, there just seems to be a real lack of leadership and heart and effort on the road. Watching the last several possessions, maybe it will be a good thing to just turn the damn set off. How in the hell do you get this little effort out of your team. Sit all of the damn starters and get other players in.
