If Mr. Plow were still here If Mr. Plow were still here when Gardner took the reins, he might not have left - he'd have someone to communicate with who could translate the protection calls into baby talk! That is a great video!
I haven't been this angry in I haven't been this angry in a long, long time. The 2009-2010 school year needs to end badly so we can forget it once and for all. UGH
Cool, thanks. That almost Cool, thanks. That almost certainly is what I'm referring to.
I agree - Keith Jackson was I agree - Keith Jackson was the best ever, and won't ever likely be passed. It was awesome when Michigan gave him his own winged helmet as part of his last broadcast at the Big House.
As far as college basketball As far as college basketball guys go, I think Bob Knight has to be among the best. Not only is his commentary spot on, but he's entertaining. Musberger and Gus Johnson were the first two on my list...for WORST announcers. I can't stand listening to either one of of them. Pam Ward is pretty bad too, but if I had to mute one of them, it would probably be Johnson and then Brent, especially when he's calling a tOSU game.
Nope, your sarcasm meter is Nope, your sarcasm meter is working just fine. I was indeed referring to the former mayor of Detroit.
Self does sound kind of Self does sound kind of arrogant with some of his comments, but I don't think he's totally wrong when he says that they let us believe we could play with them. If they had really played like the #1 team in the country, then this game gets up to 35 point dominance territory. That we were able to cut the lead down shows that we have character, and there's value in that. But if you can't shoot the ball, character isn't going to get it done against a team that's as loaded as they are. (What Self didn't do, which makes him seem like a self-absorbed, narcissistic blowhard, is admit that we were part of the reason his team struggled.) I'm disappointed in the way things have gone so far, but also still believe that we can turn things around this year. Beilein knows what he's doing and anyone who thinks he's the reason we're doing poorly should go watch another one of our many sports teams play since you're probably never going to be happy with where the basketball program is now.
Just another reason in the Just another reason in the long list of reasons to love Charles Woodson...that guy is awesome!
Michigan, without question. Michigan, without question. And I'll probably flip over to the Lions during commercials.
I think the best case outcome I think the best case outcome for our the game is a Michigan blowout. Mind you, this is highly, highly unlikely, but recruits have a better time when the crowd is really into the game and the team does well. I think they've already seen how badly depleted out defense is in terms of talent and seeing them do well wouldn't deter them from coming here (especially the top guys).
I just bought a MacBook Pro a I just bought a MacBook Pro a few weeks ago and love it. Was a PC guy up until now. Definitely worth it if you're willing to shell out the dough, which in the long run you'll probably be better off if all the rumors of improved performance and durability are true.
I'll be on the flight as I'll be on the flight as well. Should be fun - I've heard Kinnick is pretty intense.
I agree on the content of the I agree on the content of the channel being one that could have a better focus (college football is incomparable), but the function of the channel is the coolest and I'm not familiar with any channel that does this for college football because of the broadcasting issues associated with doing so.
Without a doubt, YES! The Without a doubt, YES! The only way they could make it better is to get in in HD (at least on Comcast). 7 hours of no commercials and various games is pretty sweet!
I think it's rather ironic I think it's rather ironic that Tennessee is the team that has a potential two-way, primarily defensive guy vying for the Heisman (to the point that they've started campaigning for him), given that they were so pissed about Peyton not winning the thing. Here's one person who's happy to not have to look at Fulmer on the Vols sidelines anymore!
Does anyone have a sense of Does anyone have a sense of what this guy's jinx factor is? If it was Corso, I'd be nervous that he picked us, but since we're looking for any kind of positive spin related to our team given THAT WHICH SHALL NOT BE MENTIONED, this is a good thing!
I would buy one, even if he I would buy one, even if he is going to be gone soon, as it would serve as a reminder of the best punter I've ever seen in person. Plus when I draft him next year in my fantasy draft I'd pull out the shirt just for kicks.
It was funny how Peterson It was funny how Peterson said something to the effect of, "We did absolutely the right thing in not suspeding (Hout)." My initial reaction was that he was trying to justify, not just to the media and general public, but also to himself that Hout deserved nothing more than a slap on the wrist (or whatever the whole "internal discipline" thing actually means). I'm in no way defending the stupidity and recklessness of what Blount did as I was pleasantly surprised to see Kelly bring down the hammer, but I also think that Hout was a complete jerk and didn't feel particularly sorry for him when he got clocked.
I was at the game against I was at the game against Inkster a few weeks ago and wasn't all that impressed, but then I went back and thought about it and realized that he's only been in Pioneer's system for about a month now. So I bet he improves statistically (and in his second game apparently he did) as the season goes on. Anyhow, screw the rankings, I trust RR's ability to bring in good players and evaluate talent a lot more than the media/recruiting sites. Would I prefer to have all 5 and 4 star players in a vacuum? Sure, but not having them isn't enough of a reason to get up in arms. We're going to be sweet soon enough, and it's just a matter of letting it happen.
I liked him originally when I liked him originally when it was him and Kenny Mayne who were doing the show. Maybe that was more a reflection of how sweet Mayne was (and still is) but Scott was more entertaining when he first came into the business
I'm glad to hear that Craig I'm glad to hear that Craig James made the witch-hunt comment during the broadcast. I haven't seen a replay of the game and missed the live version since I have tickets, but I did hear him before the game refute the Gameday guys' assertions that there was division/dissension in the locker room. Go Craig James!!!
LOL that's hilarious!
Zoltan
LOL that's hilarious! Zoltan is awesome. In one of my fantasy football leagues we pick punters and I can't wait to pick him next year!
Nice link Howie Schwab is one of ESPN's longest standing (if not the first) researchers. He had his own show trivia show - hosted by the used-to-be-cool-now-totally-full-of-himself-Stuart-Scott - called Stump the Schwab on ESPN (you can still catch reruns on ESPN Classic and it still might be in new production, not sure) which is one of my favorite ESPN original shows. I'm glad to see his take as I think he has a pretty good understanding of all things sports. It's nice to see what appears to be the rational part of the national media coming out!
This is a great post. Thanks This is a great post. Thanks for the link. Derek Bell was in my fraternity at Michigan. He's a solid guy and a hard-worker himself, so coming from him these comments mean a lot. It's refreshing to see something that isn't meant to tear down someone at all costs!
I would love to see a remake I would love to see a remake of "celebrity" deathmatch wherein Forde was pitted against Rosenberg and the winner was the venue itself, which in venus flytrap form came to life and ate them both. Ahh, if wishing made it so...
Knowing Rosenberg only as the Knowing Rosenberg only as the self-promoting, chest bumping fool that he appears to be given the circumstances, he'd probably take the gun (or other dark object, whatever your imagination fancies) and shoot Snyder for doing a bad job from a grunt work perspective. The guy seems to be (and again I've never met him, so I only know based on what it appears he's tried to do) so wrapped up in himself and in such denial that he could very easily say that someone else is the problem and not himself.
Since I can't give Henne a Since I can't give Henne a +1, I gave it to you for posting that link. This makes me appreciate Chad Henne in a new way. I'm really, truly glad that someone completely outside of RR's coaching tenure has come out and said this. It makes the whole thing much better to deal with. I don't even have anything else to say, other than to be happy that a guy who will be an NFL starter in the next few years called out the guys who are complaining about the system. GO BLUE!!!
“We know the practice and “We know the practice and off-season rules, and we stay within the guidelines,” Rodriguez said in a statement issued Friday to the Free Press. “We follow the rules and have always been completely committed to being compliant with all NCAA rules.” I could be totally wrong here, but I'd trust what RR says at this point over what "unnamed" players say. This smells of frustrated players who aren't getting PT. Which, like, ok it's not ideal if you don't feel good enough to bring this up to at least your position coach, but give RR a friggin break. The man takes do much crap for what's amounted to nothing to date. (Just to be clear, if we did break the rules, we should be punished as that's fair, but I don't buy it.) What's more, if USC can get by without a scratch with Reggie Bush's fiasco, this should dissipate. Agree totally that they couldn't have picked a worse time to publish this though. Rosenberg is a douche.
Big W, especially considering Big W, especially considering losing to the Orioles is a big no-no. I'm excited to see Washburn take the mound tomorrow - it will be nice to have a lefty who's (knock on wood) reliably solid!
Without a doubt it's got to Without a doubt it's got to be the 97 punt return. I was sitting with my dad then and he ran right by our side of the field (we were on the 10). That was a pretty surreal moment!
Your mamma is so old, when Your mamma is so old, when God said "Let their be light", she struck a match.
The funny thing is that I The funny thing is that I think highly of Tebow, so that might be the only kind of fawning (other than around Michigan guys, which Musberger hardly ever does) that I actually appreciate. But trying not to sound like I might actually be complementing him in any way, BM is just that...
I'm with you on the idea, but I'm with you on the idea, but having Musberger call the game is as far from the ideal situation as possible. I HATE Musberger and think that having him coddle OSU to a national audience would make me want to puke... That being said, if we got the right play-by-play group to do it, I think Lambeau is perfect. Similar size town to Ann Arbor, albeit one dominated by manufacturing, and the cold weather thing would play to the conference's image. Since we're already made out to be a grind-it-out league, and since I don't think that image will change for a while, even if more teams do adopt the spread, why not embrace it?
Sadly I wasn't that surprised Sadly I wasn't that surprised that he went from 3-0 to strikeout. Gives you perspective at how bad we are with RISP.
Just sent the invite out. Just sent the invite out.
I wanted to work a name in I wanted to work a name in with both Woodson and Woodley, but there weren't enough characters, so I chose to go with the (seemingly) more ferocious of the two. Woodson is still my all-time favorite athlete, but Woodley is not terribly far behind.
Am I correct - this is the Am I correct - this is the slasher we're going to be missing when Manny is gone? I like having Central being a competitor with his family involved. It will make him more likely to stay around here and I like our chances if he values his family ties as JB seems to be a family guy.
I agree with you here that I agree with you here that there is a standard to uphold in recruiting. A lot has been made of the issue of what sort of ship RR runs, and I'm actually glad that the Wermers comment came out about U of M football being more like a business than a "family" (which, like BS, I'll trust the guys who stay when they say that RR conveys a family-atmoshpere - it's football and there is inherently some tough love). I was sick of the way we were getting outmanned as time went on, and while I thought Lloyd was a great guy, the HORROR did it for me in cementing the desire for a new approach to things. I hate the Vest too, and agree that if they hold off and don't offer, it's more than likely because there are serious issues at heart with his character. I don't want a guy who's going to cutup and be out of the system in a year or two. In the same breath, while I'm all for the "character" guys, I want to win and win big. Not at all costs, but sometimes you have to take a few risks to find the right guy. If it means taking a flier on a talented albeit dysfunctional guy like Anderson when you see a potential All-American down the road, do it. I completely respect and understand where people are coming from when they talk about the character guys who stick with the program, but let's face it, not every guy is Tim Tebow. More often than not you get someone in the middle, and for my money, I want talent over attitude. Attitude can be taught quickly; talent can't. And given the comments about RR, I don't think he's going to tolerate anything less than solid determination and overall good behavior.
There's an email address There's an email address above that you can send yours too if you haven't already.
I just saw something about I just saw something about this yesterday but can't remember where I saw it. If I see it again I'll let you know. I think it was on a website somewhere.
Email invite instructions Alright, I set up a basic custom league and made it private so that only people I invite can join. See the instructions I added to the top of the thread on how to get an invite.
Alright cool, that's a solid Alright cool, that's a solid start. I'll set up a league tonight/tomorrow on ESPN and get you all the pertinent sign-up information. I'll make it for 10 so that we can add four more and then once it fills get an email out to everyone to nail down details.
I've only been half paying I've only been half paying attention since we haven't done anything in a while, but they just pointed out that the White Sox had Chris Getz, another former Michigan baseball player. He did, however, just hit into a double play...
It's hard to believe that It's hard to believe that they could get Cutis like that without balking given how proficient of a baserunner he is. I have a really hard time distinguishing what the umps see as a balk, even when I have the official rules sitting right in front of me.
Well I was specifically Well I was specifically referencing how the ESPN crew started off the coverage by saying that he was 20 years old and already had 9 wins. So they hype him up and then he starts off real slow. He's had trouble lately, but since we're not on Sunday Night Baseball that often, it would have been good PR for the Tigers for him to play to his potential instead of continuing his recent slump.
Sucks for Porcello ...that this outing happens to come in a nationally televised ESPN game. At least we have something going with 2-men on, though we seem to do worse as we get more men on base...
I'd go for Pittsburgh or OSU I'd go for Pittsburgh or OSU and agree that Jaquizz Rodgers would be fun to watch in the Big House!
It's May 7, but nonetheless... If Forcier being here has a strong bearing on Clay coming here, then he'll probably want to see how things go for Tate through the course of the season. If TF starts/is the starter by the end of the season, then we're conceivably in good shape. You never know, but it's good to be considered highly by a guy who's currently in the top 50 according to Rivals.
People forget People forget that the only person whose opinion matters in regard to RR keeping his job is Bill Martin, and Martin is not a clown like Barnhart at Kentucky. I think he realizes that firing Rodriguez after 2 seasons would set the program back further than keeping him on, even if we do poorly again. I'm going to assume that Martin will do the right thing and stick to his guns (especially since his reputation as an AD hinges in part on whether hiring Rodriguez pans out). There are certainly some things that I disagree with in terms of how Martin presents himself, but he's a businessman, and a good one at that, and I'm willing to bet that he'll use some sense before he were to think about a change.
Concur with the post above I've had issues as well, but when I switch over to IE it works fine. This is in particular with the hockey games broadcast on mgoblue.com, but I've also experienced it with the shorts they put up there.
