Not so fast...

If Hoke goes true pro-style (which I don't think he will) then Denard will need to continue to improve on his downfield passing game.  That was going to be the case with any coach, but certainly rings very true in a pro-style.  I do think Hoke will be much smarter about his approach than Rod was w/ Mallett, in that he'll mold his offense around the players available to him.

At the same time, I do believe Hoke needs to sit Denard down and ask him what he wants to do as a pro.  If it's try to make it as a QB - here's our starting QB.  If it's that he just wants to make it - then serious consideration needs to be given, based on Devin's development, to having Denard learn to play the Percy Harvin type role.

I do trust that whatever happens will be in the best interest of the team.  GO BLUE!

in defense of the original post agree there had to be a scapegoat for last season and shafer seemed to be over his head at this point in time with the U of M DC post (bad call by RRod if you ask me - the first of many mistakes). But the Purdue game that's alluded to can't be put on Shafer. That was the point in the season RRod (an offensive coach) decided to take over the defense. Shafer may as well have been out the door that game already. So that one can rest squarely on RRod. Just had to be said...
Punt Returns Agreed the punt return game hasn't looked stellar this year. However, I like having a veteran guy back there who isn't going to take stupid chances that end up in fumbles as we saw too many times last year. If it takes fair catches and letting a ball go every now and again to keep possession, I'll take it at this point...GO BLUE!
