I can't walk 2 city blocks in this town without seeing a Michigan shirt or a license plate with "Michigan Alumni" on it.  If half the people who came to B-Bill's for game watching showed up to the event it would be a massive success.

They should come to D.C. in the future.  Huge alumni base who usually turns out for events like these.

October 12th.  Columbus Day.  Every year in college I got to walk around campus and see chalk on the ground indicating that we shouldn't celebrate my birthday as a holiday b/c Columbus = genocide.  

When I was in school, I knew someone who was big in the College Dems, and he helped plan a speech from Michael Moore.  Prior to the event, Moore had my friend buy him a Michigan hat at Steve and Barry's or something.  I'm sure he just wanted to pander to the crowd.

No, my opinion is that a bowl game and 8 wins should be the goal next year. We have to get used to lowered expectations, unless Rich Rodriguez really turns it around quickly. I'd be content if we beat 2 of MSU/PSU/OSU tandem and had a winning record at this point.

3. I thought Vince looked great, but he's so small, and he hasn't had to play a whole year. Plenty of players look great in short action, but are injury-prone or less effective in full-time use (look at Minor and Brown this year.)

I understand the sentiment, but by that logic we could never doubt who we get as recruits or be able to compare classes. Scout and Rivals are valuable as national (supposedly) non-biased evaluators of talent.

I must have misread your initial post. What I took from it was "Beilein has never recruited stars in the past at his other coaching stops, so he can't do it here, and without those players, Michigan will be limited."

I think it's too early to discern what kind of players he can recruit. Sure, he's no John Calipari, but why can't he get the same players Bill Freider or Tommy Amaker got? How do we know he's opposed to one-and-done's? His only full recruiting class of last year's came after a 10-22 season, why would you want to spend 1 year on a rebuilding team? I think the quote you took from Brian is spot on, after all the shit we've been through, having a coach like Beilein is wonderful. It is ridiculous to expect a national championship in the very near future.

What about LLP? Tim McCormick told me he was going to be the best Michigan PG since Rumeal Robinson.

It's on Mayfield east of Cleveland. I think it might actually be Mayfield Heights. It takes a long time to get there, so I usually only go for the Ohio State game. But even then, there were still Buckeye fans who taunted me in the bathroom about how our QB's sucked.

It seems like a pretty pointless argument. Wouldn't a better metric be "positions in which Michigan returns a player who significantly contributed the previous year?" By that metric the only position we're lacking is QB and TE, depending on if you count if Sheridan actually "contributed." On defense, we'd have like 2 on the DL, 2 LB's and 2 in the secondary maybe? So by my very unofficial count, that would be 16 of 22, or 17 of 24 if you want to count the kickers.

I think they're still ahead of us. Joe Lunardi had them as a 10 seed (ahead of Mich) before the game and losing to a good team like Gonzaga shouldn't really drop them. But hopefully we're ahead of them.

I agree. We should be able to beat Iowa without much issue, and the Illinois game could go either way (esp if we figure out a way to stop that tall drink of water Teasdale). I wouldn't be surprised to see Purdue get upset at some point, they seem to be pretty inconsistent.

EDIT: I just realized that if we beat Iowa we have to play Illinois the next day. They'll be well-rested and we don't play as well without 3 days rest. Look at the difference between the Duke game the day after UCLA on a neutral court vs. the game at home w/ sufficient rest. I'd put our chances at 20 percent if we get to the 2nd round.

Good analysis, but I have a minor quibble. O-linemen usually play the whole game, while the d-line is usually rotated in. I think the Detroit Loins had 7 or 8 offensive linemen for 5 positions and like 11 d-linemen for 4 positions last year. But then again, in college o-linemen are usually redshirted and there are more backups because they take longer to develop. But the point is well made.
