Nice.. got the same

Nice.. got the same email.

What a convoluted process. Apparently the Dallas alumni club had to put up $5k just to get the ball rolling. Then, there was the design and feedback stage last year. Now they need 200 people to show interest. Then you need to pay $55/yr for the privilege.

Don't get me wrong, I'll get one, but jeez..how hard is it to print a block M on a piece of metal?

Houston is nice

You can have a good time down here - stay downtown or thereabouts as you can take the Metro rail to Reliant and don't have to worry about driving or parking.

Best areas for nightlife are Midtown/Montrose, Rice Village, and the Heights. The best thing to come out of this season would be a bowl game in Houston.

As a current Houston

As a current Houston resident, in lieu of the BCS or the Rose, the Texas Bowl would be awesome. Random Florida Bowl seems like what we always get, even at 7-5.

TX plate details

I've gotten responses from Houston and Dallas - the upfront deposit is $5000, with 6 months prep time.

I've suggested to them that a Paypal account or Kickstarter could be the way to cover the remaining costs that the groups themselves couldn't contribute.

Once I hear back on what they decide, I'll probably just start a new topic to let everyone know. Will keep you posted.

Looked into it

Didn't see any way to make requests, except send an email to [email protected].. they said the alumni association needs to do it. I'm not sure if there's a Texas AA.. I know there's a Houston one. Customer rep said any AA can do it.

It makes me sad.. all of the Big 12 and SEC have plates. Weird parts of the B1G also have it (Purdue, MSU, Illinois).

Louisiana Lafayette and Louisiana Tech even have Texas plates. Louisiana doesn't even have technology, but they have a Texas plate.

Edit: I just sent a mass email to all 4 alumni associations in the state (Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio). Whatever the signature/deposit number necessary is, I'm sure we'll get it.

Rankings are useless this season

The B1G isn't getting an at large this season thanks to Ohio's ban and general malaise elsewhere. We can, should, and honestly must win out (except for OSU) in order to make the Rose Bowl.

If we beat Ohio, then we'd probably be ranked Top 10. Again though, who cares? We're not going for the ship or an at-large. Rose Bowl is the only goal.

Everyone! Come ask about the score prediction!

Seriously.. you're the first person to notice, or ask.

And I'm excited.. a low-stress rainy Saturday. Just like old times.

Lions 5th seed: who to root for

Here are the scenarios for the Lions to get a 5th seed and meet DAL/NYG instead of NO.

CHI @ GB ATL @ NO DET @ GB CHI @ MIN TB @ ATL CAR @ NO Wild Cards
either Atl wins Det wins either TB wins either 5-Lions,
6-Falcons
GB wins NO wins Det wins either either either 5-Lions,
6-Falcons
GB wins NO wins GB wins either TB wins either 5-Lions,
6-Falcons

Looks like we want NO to win tonight in MNF, and TB to beat ATL next week. Basically, the more ATL loses, the better it is for us.

If NO wins tonight, and DET beats a resting GB that already has home field locked up, then we're in good shape. Atlanta needs to at least lose once, regardless.

Is Tom Rinaldi wearing eyeliner?

Hm.. regardless, I'm saying yes.

Statistical tidbit

We're in a 3 way tie for 2nd place for scoring defense (with Wisconsin and MSU).

HOWEVA - Michigan has the 30th toughest schedule for opponents already played, compared to Wisconsin's 57th and MSU's 76th.

I'm still leaning towards luckier than good, but 2nd best scoring defense after 5 games, however you slice it, is something new and exciting.

My first post: uncited wikipedia insight

Wondering if UNLV had something to do with the Confederacy is like wondering if MSU is located in Sparta, but there's a [somewhat] legitimate reason, apparently.

  • The nickname "Rebels" was given to UNLV athletic teams because the school, emerging from the shadow of the University of Nevada, Reno, in effect "rebelled" against its bigger and older brother to the north.

Bonus factoid:

  • The name "Runnin' Rebels" (always spelled without a "g") was coined in 1974 by then-sports information director Dominic Clark but refers only to the UNLV men's basketball team.
