|5 days 22 hours ago||penn state fans||
i get what you're saying about crazy internet fans vs in-person 'normies', but let's not forget that this is the same fanbase that went batshit crazy (as in, semi-violent demonstrations and setting shit on fire) in defense of joe paterno during the dark times.
not that they're cedar village-level couch-burners, but i don't think you can completely excuse asshole psu fans as a small internet minority.
|5 days 22 hours ago||good heavens.||
i can't believe i missed that. i hate that crap.
|5 days 22 hours ago||i would've been stunned if he'd been "punished"||
i mostly just wanted to point out the presence of the name "urban meyer" in the same sentence as "won't face punishment."
if i had any interweb skillz i'd see how many articles have been written containing that exact combination..
|6 days 2 hours ago||wow, that's a really nice press room.||
...not that i've ever been in one, or really paid much attention, but that's the room penn state offers to the press? really? what a dump.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||michigan 31, indiana 13||
another sleeper hold game.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||well,||
for one thing, i seriously question how many jobs this "industry" has created. in marketing and advertising, maybe.
as far as "justification" goes? it's gambling. full stop.
we can argue about whether gambling should be legal (i for one literally could not care less either way), but right now, at this moment, gambling is illegal in new york, and internet gambling is illegal by federal statute. the loophole that the sports leagues carved out of that law is pretty wide, but i don't know that it's this wide.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||i love this idea.||
i'm not a wrestling guy, but if i were i would absolutely go to an outdoor meet. neat idea.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||oregon's uniform||
okay, i know that the oregon uniforms are cool with the kids, and all that, but i guess i have a hard time with calling it "a" great uniform, since it literally changes, top-to-bottom, for every single game.
go ahead, describe michigan's uniform, or ohio state's, or notre dames, or pretty much anyone else on the list. now describe oregon's.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||calling keith jackson||
i can't really go into specifics of how or why it came about, but i know someone who once had access to gary moeller's rolodex (note to millenials - think of an iphone address book, only on these custom paper thingies), and once found myself in possession of the home phone numbers of lou holtz and keith jackson. this was back in my pre-12 step days, and from time to time i'd be on a bender of sorts and do exactly what plaschke describes - call the number, hear keith jackson's annoyed 'hello,' and hang up. he never graced me with a "whoa nelly, who's a-callin' now?", to my great regret, and i've long since lost the numbers. sigh.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||not really my point.||
my point is not about a side-by-side comparison of their specific talents, which is why i didn't write one.
it's about what i see when i look at jabrill peppers 9-plus games into his college career, and i don't know that i can completely discard any of his possible futures. he could be a charles woodson lockdown guy, he could be a reggie bush all-over-the-field guy, he could bulk up and be a brian urlacher (urlacher was a safety once, you know). he could be deion sanders, with half a dozen int and kick return touchdowns in his best seasons. he could be leonard fournette, for all we know, if we lined him up and handed off to him 25 times a game. i'm not sure i'd say 'no chance' to any of those at this point.
can i say 'no chance' to him being a full-time qb like denard? sure, but i'd also say 'no way' to him being a defensive tackle. those things aren't a part of a discussion of his ceiling because there's no chance he'll be asked to do them.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||jabrill, man||
i was reading this, and started wondering if, in the mgoblog era, there's been a guy this electrify...um...oh, of course. denard.
the difference, of course, is that denard's limitations (such as they were) were at least out there on the horizon; they weren't worries, per se, but you knew that he was never going to be an accurate sharpshooter (rodriguez' offense didn't need him to be), or super-durable (but go ahead and try to hit him hard).
jabrill, though - do we see any limitations yet? any ceiling whatsoever? i guess he's probably not going to be a guy who absolutely shuts down one side of the field by himself, but he certainly looks like he could be a very good cover guy...you won't attack him, that's for sure.
during robert griffin iii's rookie season with the washington nfl football team, tony kornheiser liked to say that they were "entering a time of unbridled optimism" because he was such a flash-across-the-sky talent. i feel exactly the same way about jabrill. at this moment, he has almost zero ceiling, right?

i think we lay some serious wood to these guys. 44-3.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||next tweet from "schefty"...||
"sources tell me harbaugh top candidate for HC."
we all know he's thinking it.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||i love this and wish him the best.||
i hope he goes full uzelac for those kids.
|3 weeks 5 days ago||dude, really?||
just browsing the site, chatting about misdemeanors and such, and suddenly, bam - circumcision!!!
|3 weeks 5 days ago||well,||
a friend of mine was sentenced to over 100 hours of jail for a drunk driving, but was able to work them off via community service.
the 'mandatory' may refer to sentencing once he's officially found guilty, and even then he might be able to work off the jail time. i suspect he hasn't paid any fines yet, either.
|3 weeks 5 days ago||targeting||
i said it three weeks ago, and i stand by it - targeting is the block / charge of football. nobody knows how to call it, so it essentially becomes a live-action coin flip. heads you're good, tails you miss next week's first half.
|3 weeks 6 days ago||mark dantonio||
hopped in his car to do his "jail ministry" in columbus as soon as he heard. no connection with the fact that he's going to need a qb after cook "graduates."
|3 weeks 6 days ago||LOVE this.||
jim harbaugh is doing so many things right.
|4 weeks 4 days ago||oh, i don't know...||
...when compared to life and death issues, i guess i'm pretty comfortable calling college athletics 'silly.'
|4 weeks 4 days ago||gregg easterbrook.||
never not a sanctimonious dipshit.
|4 weeks 4 days ago||this makes me sad.||
a reminder, once again, that most of what we talk about here is, you know, kinda silly.
i wish him a long, healthy life.
|4 weeks 4 days ago||damn, damn, damn...||
now that this is scabbing over at least a little bit?
i'm stoked, man. this defense is already a wrecking crew, and there's very little reason to think it won't continue and even get better. very little reason.
|4 weeks 4 days ago||i will be very surprised...||
...if walton is not at least second-team all-conference. ferrell may beat him out, but i expect them to play to at worst a dead heat when they face each other.
i love our coaching staff, by the way. how many staffs could have turned a slow, small "just a shooter" into a bonafide big ten point guard? not many.
screw linebacker u. this is point guard u.
|5 weeks 3 days ago||argh.||
...i never hated brady the way that some others did, but cumong man. brady talking about the 'rebuilding' job he did ignores the fact that the team got worse the further he got from the rodriguez years. did he raise the talent level? sure. i guess. but he also coached them right into the goddamn mountain.
|5 weeks 3 days ago||yes.||
let's take clock management advice from brady hoke. great idea.
maybe jim harbaugh, too, can manage a clock so well that we give up extra hail mary attempts, like brady did against penn state.
|5 weeks 4 days ago||you clipped it short, but...||
i thought there was pretty egregious holding on the "punt return" at the 15-yard-line. don't know who's being held, and i really can't bring myself to watch it again.
|5 weeks 4 days ago||ahhhh...||
...never seen it, will have to dig it up and...oh, who am i kidding, there ain't no way i'm watchin' that thing.
thanks to both of you, and now i feel slightly less ignorant than i did. that's a good day, right there.
|5 weeks 5 days ago||apologies, but...||
...okay, i've been around here for a long time. i don't do much forum stuff but have probably read every front-page article since...well, since forever. and i should know this, but can someone tell me the origin of the 'special k' name? did one of brandon's nitwits refer to himself thusly at some point, and it stuck, or is is something even more obvious and i'm blanking on it?
