|22 hours 36 min ago||"must?"||
not sure i'd use that particular word...what would we "like" to see? sure. what would we "hope" to see? absolutely. "must" we see? meh.
|1 day 3 hours ago||thanks, thanks, thanks.||
i appreciated the 'meta' comments. i've been here for a long time, although i generally only comment on front-page stories (as opposed to the MGoBoard), and the comment sections have been a real downer for a while now. it's not because the football season has been disappointing, either - even during the basketball team's run there were trolls a-plenty.
looking forward to the comment sections moving back away from youtube territory.
|1 day 20 hours ago||really? "all evidence?"||
i'm anxious to see your list of greg robinson games where our defense was even so-so, let alone really good. seriously, name one.
at least the borges offenses have had some high points.
|1 day 20 hours ago||sheesh.||
there was no way on god's green earth that he would answer the question any other way, not with one more game (and 15 practices) to go this season. he answered the same way he would have answered it last week (and should have, had it been asked). obviously.
he could still let borges ("al did great things for this program, and we appreciate his contributions, but we mutually decided to go in a different direction." emphasis mine.) and fred jackson ("i have great respect for fred jackson, but he decided that the day-to-day grind wasn't something he was interested in right now. he's welcome around the program anytime he wants to come by, and i look forward to using him as a resource as long as he wants to remain involved.") go.
calm down for once.
|1 day 22 hours ago||right there with you.||
is still a raw - and young - player.
it's easy to forget that calvin johnson didn't immediately start tearing apart the nfl...as a rookie he had 44 catches for 756 yards and only one game over 100 yards receiving (and that in game 14). he was obviously something very special in-the-making, but he wasn't there yet. imho, devin funchess is also something very special in-the-making, but he isn't there yet.
if i were a big ten defensive coordinator i'd be very very afraid of what he's becoming. megaatron (the 'aa' is deliberate, by the way)
|2 days 24 min ago||so it begins.||
the trolls go back to their bridges.
|2 days 5 hours ago||what? he's available?||
i wish i could remember which of the recent trolls said we should hire this guy. derp.
|2 days 21 hours ago||whatevs||
i'm sure we were all interested in what some message board nitwit would "accept."
|3 days 3 hours ago||Good god.||
Thus missing the point entirely.
I wasn't saying that the 2013 defense is as good as the 2006 defense, dummy. I was saying that you can't let one bad game color your entire perception of a unit either way, particularly when they go against an elite group like the 2006 or 2013 OSU offenses.
|3 days 14 hours ago||Yes, dummy||
A real good defense, just like in 2006, that also got lit up in The Game.
Put another way, should we stop saying that the 2013 offense was lousy, because they had a great day today?
One game doesn't prove anything either way, ever.
|3 days 20 hours ago||Oh, come on, man||
Nobody is "pleased," we're just proud of an outmanned team that just gave a terrific team all it could handle and a little bit more.
|3 days 20 hours ago||Reminds me of 2006.||
Really good defense that got lit up by a really good offense. Nobody questioned the effort after that one. 'Course, I figure you were about seven, so you probably don't remember.
|3 days 20 hours ago||Yes, "mailing it in."||
Find a single player that looked like was playing out the string before today. Go ahead, I'll wait. Tell you what, just keep looking, then go jump off a bridge.
|4 days 5 hours ago||me neither||
i saw him more as a drew brees type - smallish, not a huge arm, but accurate and in complete control of the offense. a terrific high schooll qb, for sure, but i don't see him as a great d1 prospect.

double post. apologies
|5 days 4 hours ago||not at all...||
not suggesting that we all have to agree with everything brian writes...i was mostly responding to the "well, if you're not going to write this then i might have to find another blog, and boy has this place gone downhill anyway, sniff sniff" vibe of a few of the posts.

|6 days 17 hours ago||Some of my formative reading||
Some of my formative reading and writing experience (at least in terms of sports) comes from Bill James' Baseball Abstracts, which he stopped writing in 1988. He'd been doing them for a decade or so at that point, and at the end of his very last edition, he wrote a long essay that he called "Breaking the Wand," in which he told some history, explained some of his motives, and explained why he was quitting...to quote a fairly long passage,
...I think the parallels to the MGoBoard in general, and this thread in particular, are pretty obvious. There's little doubt in my mind that the Baseball Abstracts never would exist today, not because Bill James wouldn't be writing, but because...well, obviously. Message boards.
My point in posting this is not to warn anyone that "omigod, don't be mean to Brian, he might quit this blog." More to say that some of you might do well to remember that this isn't "some goddamn public utility or something." If you don't like what he writes, don't read it. If he's not writing what you want, go to one of them many (many, many) other Michigan blogs out there. If nobody's writing what you want, then by all means pick up a shovel and start digging.

wasn't the schedule pushed back a week after 9/11?
|6 days 21 hours ago||also,||
"butt" made me laugh. i'm 48, going on 10. thanks again.
|6 days 21 hours ago||fantastic.||
life's too short, my friend.
eat. have a glass of wine. flirt with your baby niece, if you have one. hold your wife's hand under the table. go for a walk. sleep in.

beat those bastards.
|1 week 1 hour ago||well,||
i don't know about "bad fan" as a specific phrase.
i DO know that i absolutely hate being around fans that ever, under any circumstances, root for the kids on the field to get their asses handed to them, whether such idiots think it's better in the long run or not.
go away. please.
|1 week 20 hours ago||jesus, really?||
a win is...a negative? really?
|1 week 23 hours ago||fantastic.||
i have to say, i couldn't give two craps less about what brady hoke says about his football team or staff in a press conference. i don't believe, as many apparently do, that his demeanor is the same in the locker room, or that his unwillingness to go all mike gundy at the podium is some sort of betrayal. the people that do believe that are, in my humble opinion, batshit, monkeyballs crazy. also stupid.
anyway - the use of "fickle" is really off-putting. it implies that the reason michigan fans might choose to not spend a couple hundred bucks each watching his crappy football team is because they have better "entertainment options," or some such. this isn't some goddamn sitcom, brady. a lot of us really care about this, probably unhealthily so. don't minimize our choices as mere whim. the people that are giving up their tickets are, in all likelihood, feeling really shitty about it.
by the way, dave brandon - this is thanksgiving weekend, and a lot of kids are going home. if you think the student section looked like shit earlier this season, just wait. the sight of a bunch of red shirts in that corner is going to look really bad on tv. but hey, tv rights. congrats on the upcoming men's ballroom dancing team.

|1 week 1 day ago||yes, 2003.||
beat notre dame, beat sparty, beat ohio state, were #4 in the country going into the rose bowl...if we do that next year we're in the playoff.
|1 week 1 day ago||oy.||
if you look at devin funchess and think anything other than 'star,' or at least 'star in the making'...man. i don't know what i can tell you.
i might suggest that maybe, just maybe, you might be starting from the premise that the current staff sucks, and therefore everything that happens (including a couple of bad drops by funchess on saturday) is further proof of that fact.
|1 week 1 day ago||Yes.||
How dare he try to bring perspective.
|1 week 1 day ago||Awesome post.||
But maybe you guys could do your mutual "we suck and this is how much" stroking session on something other than a recruiting post.
