- attendance of any kind.
- what braxton miller thinks about michigan sports attendance.
- what braxton miller thinks about anything whatsoever.
- whether lebron might be limited by his lack of a reliable jump shot (yes, they really said that).
- whether carmelo anthony's game would be "limited at the next level by neither being ultra-big or ultra-athletic."
- whether chris bosh would "ever be able to add the strength needed to become a star."
- if the "athletic guards of the nba would be able to contain the penetration" of dwyane wade, and whether he would add a jump shot.
|17 hours 53 min ago||interesting.||
an extended riff on CAPA and NCAA hypocrisy is immediately followed by a note on this fall's trip to f***ing rutgers. these things are not unrelated.
|4 days 17 hours ago||yes, it's a crappy schedule.||
...but if you think that this is a problem that gets completely fixed by a better one you are dead, dead, dead, D-E-D dead wrong. ticket prices are too damn high.
|4 days 23 hours ago||oh crap||
i can't believe i brought up that one thing but didn't mention the other thing. i don't know what i was thinking!
|5 days 2 hours ago||here's what i think||
he might come out but then again he might not and if he does then we'll play mark donnal at the five and drop someone else into the four but then again maybe donnal will play the four he's a good shooter you know and bulked up since last year and has been playing well in practice but the person i think is getting forgotten is max bielfeldt because he played quality minutes sometimes and boy it's too bad horford left we really could have used him next year i guess his girlfriend and it's okay because beilein is really great and he can really develop talent i wonder if we'll need a big man caris is a good wing player who can get to the rim and maybe we don't want a big guy clogging the middle and sparty has big guys izzo is whiney anyway mcgary is good i like his attitude we'll need someone who plays aggressively and besides if he stays he'll improve his draft stock the draft isn't as deep next year but lots of money either way and maybe he's just ready to go but maybe not and he might not want to be the last of the big three left but maybe he wants to make his own legacy.
i think that covers it. but then again, maybe not. someone should start another thread to talk it over.
|5 days 19 hours ago||gibson||
i think the killing of gibson the same way as the killing of stevie brown, or for that matter the killing of al borges: overstated because fans overstate. we tend to boil these things down as binary, either terrible or great, partially because it's fun to make a case and partially because it's way easier than trying to distinguish shades of grey.
i didn't like our secondary while he was here. there were many more reasons for our general suckiness than just tony gibson.
|1 week 16 hours ago||best of luck to both.||
they were both big parts of two fun, fun seasons. they get to walk out with their heads held high and no regrets.
|1 week 17 hours ago||6 fouls||
two things: first, i seem to recall the big east doing that for a few years a while back, possibly during the dark days of big east thuggery. i don't think it lasted too long, though. and second, 6 fouls makes more sense in the nba at least partially due to game length - 6 fouls per 48 minutes exactly equals 5 fouls per 40.
|1 week 18 hours ago||well, i feel even dumber than usual.||
...although i could've sworn i'd seen one recently. guess not.
|1 week 19 hours ago||time outs||
somebody, please ban the "falling out of bounds" timeout post-haste. if you're not in control of your body, you're not in control of the ball.
|1 week 19 hours ago||arthur "2 sheds" jackson||
monty python forever.
|1 week 1 day ago||best of luck to him.||
a huge part of two fun, fun seasons.
every one of these guys gets to walk out the door with their heads held way up high and no regrets.
|1 week 1 day ago||it has absolutely no predictive value whatsoever.||
neither decision impacts the other.
|1 week 1 day ago||crap.||
didn't mean to copy your post, there. my apologies.
btw, +1 for that gif. FOREVER.
|1 week 1 day ago||all spring games are a joke.||
that is all.
|1 week 1 day ago||good god.||
we have clearly entered the dead season.
there are many, many things i worry about when it comes to michigan sports. things that are not on the list:
|1 week 4 days ago||i stand by my previous post.||
|1 week 5 days ago||so...||
...why do we have to speculate anyway? can't it just be a private decision? it's really, really none of our business.
|1 week 5 days ago||bummer, but||
...he was an important part of the team for some really fun seasons.
hold your head high, jon, and thanks. you done good. godspeed.
|1 week 6 days ago||yes, revisionist history.||
calling out weaknesses is not the same as saying someone blew a pick.
the same cnn/si draft profiles wondered:
i'm obviously not defending the pick. obviously. just saying that dumars wasn't alone on that island. just like just about everyone else in the league. you can say that the herd mentality is dumb, and that a smart gm should have been able to see it as clearly, and you'd probably be right. doesn't change the fact - and it is indeed a fact - that nobody called it a dumb pick at the time.
|1 week 6 days ago||thank you.||
...the "darko was a blown pick" narrative drives me nuts, too. it was pretty universally regarded as the right pick at the time.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1028885/index... (this one is a personal favorite)
saying that the pistons blew the pick because dwyane wade is revisionist history, pure and simple. nobody - and i mean nobody - said that until it was clear that darko just wasn't going to happen.
i also wonder why larry brown doesn't ever seem to get part of the blame for darko...i get it, developing young talent wasn't as important as trying to win a championship, but he also didn't seem to give a shit about his development, either. i guess larry...uh...was never too concerned with long-term solutions, right? not to excuse flip saunders.
|1 week 6 days ago||this hadn't occurred to me, but...||
interesting that neither of our coaches were bitching about their injured / banged up stars all season long (hoke / gardner and beilein / mcgary), but instead just tried to keep banging away with what they had. unlike a certain basketball coach i could name that whined about it after every. single. loss.
you know, speaking of wanking motions.
|2 weeks 17 hours ago||sigh.||
i haven't attended the spring game in about ten years, for a variety of reasons, but had attended, off and on, about 15 times before. i had seriously thought about making the 2-hour drive this year because, in my memory, the spring game was just about football. no scoreboards, no blaring rock music, no uniformz, no'presented by' hijinx...just a couple of bucks to walk in and room to move around to watch my team.
it hadn't even occured to me that the "extra" stuff would start bleeding into the spring game (although, in retrospect, i have no idea why i thought that)...when i read the 'man the barricades' portion of this post i was much less annoyed than i would have expected to be. i guess that means i'm a beaten man. a cash cow in a blue hat.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||hoo, boy...||
...i saw a headline (something like "payne with a spectacular 360") before i saw the dunk and didn't expect it to not match the hype. sparty uni notwithstanding, i think it's pretty sick.
he might have wanted to try something like that against uconn instead of standing out at the 3-point line for the entire game.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||certainly...||
...and i would have happily given up any or all of the rose bowl trips if they meant shots at the national title. but he did specifically say pasadena.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||pasadena...||
...hasn't exactly been crawling with buckeyes, either. let's see: 2010, yes...um, 1997, and...wait, what? 1985? 3 times in the last 30 years? am i counting that right?
|3 weeks 43 min ago||wait,||
we get to make fun of other schools' non-conference scheduling? please.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||gone baby gone.||
i can't blame him, either. i'm not sure he improves much with another year of college - the skills are obviously already there, making it a formal full-time job will probably make him into a star.
|4 weeks 4 days ago||mine was hernia surgery.||
not the same, but in same general area, and i did get four days of hoops.
|4 weeks 4 days ago||i don't think that was the point.||
my read was more like "okay, there's this undersized guy who came in a little pudgy, without a huge amount of hype or natural talent who worked really hard to turn himself into a valuable player / team captain. plus he's an engineering student. so what color is he?" i think that chait's point is that, based on the description, most of us would assume that he's a white guy. that's not bad, per se, it just is. we all have inherent biases or presumptions, and recognizing when we have them is probably a good thing.
i shouldn't speak for mr. chait, but that's what resonated with me.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||i LOVE...||
...that the '5 key plays' for the kansas game is 5 replays of The Shot.
damn, damn, damn. if we do half of what that team did last year in the next couple of weeks, i'll be happy forever.
