Reading Brian's recruiting

Reading Brian's recruiting post from 2012 is devastating: http://mgoblog.com/content/2012-recruiting-ondre-pipkins

The YMRMFSPA was Gabe Watson, but fast. The projection is just a what could've been. Needless to say, injuries suck.

Projection: Won't redshirt with very little behind Campbell and Pipkins seemingly the obvious choice to replace him next year. Probably starts off a little slow due to conditioning issues and general freshmanhood, starts coming on midway through the year, and does some stuff towards the end of his freshman season that get everyone revved up about year two.

From there he's likely a three-year starter somewhere between pretty dang good and All-American.

This is a crazy idea but I

This is a crazy idea but I think a lot of people who are new to posting on the site could use some type of live one-hour webinar on how to create charts, do links, other features to enhance the quality of their posts.  Sure I can see people saying go google it, but this could also be a way to help Mgoblog build its brand and fanbase, and help those who want to contribute to the site put out a better product, which in turns make the site more readable for everyone. .

I prefer this shade

Harbaugh babysat him when he

Harbaugh babysat him when he recruited his older bro, Trent Murphy, at Stanford - not making this up. Trent Murphy, as you might recall, was an absolute beast and All American there, 2nd round pick to the Skins a few years back

It is crazy how quick our

It is crazy how quick our fortunes can turn.  Can you imagine last December being told about the contents of this UV??? In only 8 months, reading a post about Jim Harbaugh, Nike, opening up our pocketbooks to hire great football minds lining up to be "analysts." Still surreal.

Here is another great article

Here is another great article disucssing the upside that these camps have. This quote is amazing: "In my America, you're allowed to cross the state borders," Harbaugh says. "That's the America I know."

It really seems like everything Harbaugh has been doing, going back to training Winston before the draft and brining him to the Aerial Assault clinic, has been calculated.

For some context

247Sports ranks Enis as the nation's No. 36 running back and No. 7 prospect overall in the state of Indiana. As a junior, he rushed for a nation's best 3,189 yards (among 2016 prospects) and 49 touchdowns.

Can you imagine what other fanbases think of Spike? I am just glad Josh Gasser finally has left Wisconsin

Reminiscent of Trey Burke v Kansas

Obviously stakes weren't nearly the same but definitely reminds me of Trey Burke's performance against Kansas, especially the degree of difficulty on those shots.

Agree and disagree

I too have thought about that comparison before...however there are a couple important distinctions to make. If I recall correctly, the Maryland basketball team that won it all with Juan Dixon, Lonny Baxter, Steve Blake, etc was actually not full of blue chip talent. It was the first team ever without a McDonald's All-American to win it all.

After that sustained period of elite-success, Maryland actually started pulling in some of the best recruits in the country, including McDonald's All Americans, who just flat-out did not pan out. In fact, the class of 2002 produced 4 top-100 guys per ESPN, Travis Garrison (33), Chris McRae (41), John Gilchrist (70) and Nik Caner-Medley (85). They all had their moments but never reached their potential for a myriad of reasons.

That was the best class ever in the Gary Williams era. It was the fizzling of that class that ultimately led to worse returns going forward. Also, at the same time, Georgetown began to take rise and clean up all the local talent (Roy Hibbert, Jeff Green).   I think that really hurt MD recruiting in the later part of the decade.    But Gary Williams was always pulling in great classes, they just didn't pan out.

Gerry Hamilton's Roquan Smith Update

I don't have enough points to create a thread but looks like Hamilton got a little excited when updating Roquan Smith's OVs:

I am fairly certain the author of this article should now be referred to as Turd Ferguson, famed answer on Celebrity Jeopardy

Interesting Article on Grantland About TCU Offensive Philosophy

I don't have enough points to create a thread but I think this article is really poignant: Horned and Dangerous: How Defensive Guru Gary Patterson Built College Football’s Most Prolific Offense at TCU

This is pretty much the polar opposite of the Hoke regime and ultimatley will be his death knell. This in particular really stuck out:

  • "With no bowl game on the horizon, Patterson immediately went about overhauling his offensive coaching staff, beginning with demotions for co-offensive coordinators Jarrett Anderson (now the offensive line coach) and Rusty Burns (now in charge of outside receivers). For their replacements, Patterson looked to a pair of in-state rivals for assistants with roots in the Air Raid: Doug Meacham, who had just spent his first season as the primary play-caller at Houston after eight years on Mike Gundy’s staff at Oklahoma State, and Sonny Cumbie, a Texas Tech assistant who, as the Red Raiders’ starting quarterback in 2004, had engineered a 70-35 blowout over Patterson’s team....Patterson, the old defensive hand, was all in on a system that placed little or no value on establishing the run, winning time of possession, or occasionally easing up on the throttle for the sake of the defense. “I think people are just in shock that I let them do it,” Patterson said last week, before the outburst against Texas Tech. “That’s all I heard: ‘No way he’s going to let them do it.’”

Anyways, just thought I would share this article since I think it is a great case study on how to make the shift after running a certain system that is no longer working.

Brian and Ace = Woodward and Bernstein

Wow could not be more proud of you guys - this is some straight up Watergate reporting. If there was ever a pulitzer awarded for college blogging you guys would be shoe-ins.
