For what it's worth Paul Finebaum emphatically defended Hugh Freeze yesterday. He said he understood why people might attribute Ole Miss's recent surge in recruiting success to shady practices, but that the worst he does (like recruit untalented brothers of 5 star players etc.) is still legal. Clemson, on the other hand, seems like a different story. I am also aware that being vouched for by Paul Finebaum is relatively meaningless. Still, I think he cares about his journalistic integrity -- and he seems to defend Harbaugh whenever someone calls in to whine.

He was also the interim baseball coach at Yale in 1992. From what I have just been frantically reading words like "old school" and "tough but fair" keep coming up. His players really seem to love him.
But perhaps the best thing about Don Brown is that it appears he favors a moustache.
My initial impression is a great get.

Team chemistry and knowing your role are so crucial to Beilein's offense. You never know what the season might bring if the team can come together and peak at the right time (there's a joke in there somewhere).
So I, for one, am going to be cautiously optimistic for at least one more half before I write this team off for the year.

It would take a lot of evidence/convincing for me to believe that Urban Meyer has a libido.
I'm not going to take the time to analyze my thoughts on this one. I know he has reproduced with good results etc., but I'm not buying the idea that he enjoyed it.

I remember in the late 80s or early 0s somebody like Chris Calloway or Greg McMurtry played football and also started in center field for the baseball team. Anyone remember that?
edit: maybe I''m wrong because I can't find anything.

Miami is a private university. The culture there is not at all like what you would associate with the football program. It's more like Gonzaga or Pepperine. Maybe Richt can help to make the football culture more in sync with the university culture? Miami is a good school (and a plumb job if you are a prof). It's not a party circus like many think.

If he wouldn't have been injured so often I think he could have been right up there with some of the best Michigan rbs ever.

I'm psyched for him. But this post is not remotely "OT." It's Fitz Toussaint!

You are praying to the wrong god. It's Jeebus, with a "B." Jeeves doesn't know his ass from his earlobe.

You are completely off base with Candadian Cowbell Girl. She has fun and makes the experience more fun for others with her enthusiasm. The men in the picture above are grown adults whose self-esteem is way too wrapped up in the succes or failure of a group of college students who play football. The comparison is not even remotely valid.

I didn't mean to bitch or insult. The band was very good and the fans were super nice. My son and I had an excellent time. One fan even told me "thank you for Max Biefeldt!" I said I had nothing to do with that, but you're welcome.
And I apologize for using the word "dorky" to describe the experiece as whole. Nothing was dorky to me except the emoji race and the bicycle race, both of which seemed inappropriate given the closeness of the game. The announcer was, to me, beyond horrible because I appreciate announcers who do not try to drum up excitement. I like the monotone -- like Bob Sheppard (RIP) or Grapentine. Announcers who are too enthusiastic diminish the game experience in my view.
But you're right. All things considered it was an excellent trip -- and you make a very good point when you say that it felt like watching a football game at a basketball school. No one insulted me once. Yours is the first insult I have absorbed all weekend in fact!

That's right! My bad. I remember it as being near the harrowing end, but it was just the end of the first half.

I think so! But it's painted with Michigan stuff. But yeah, it looked like an ambulance. She also had what appeared to be a cross country ski with four shot glasses glued to it. Four people would then take shots at a time.

Ha! I think maybe so. I couldn't really tell because she was so decked out in her Michigan superhero outfit.
Her enthusiasm was certainly infectious. I kept thinking, "man, she is going to feel it tomorrow, and the ride home to Toronto (or wherever) is going to suck for her." But I'm speaking from the perspective of a man in his early 40s. My 22 year old self would likely have been just fine with it all, and I would have kept drinking on the ride home -- so there's that.
|12 weeks 5 days ago||Did you see her before the||
Did you see her before the game? I couldn't believe she could still stand let alone run all over the stadium tapping on her bell. She was chugging beers out of a whiffle bat, then she would hit the can with the bat. As I said, it was eerily inspiring!
|13 weeks 1 day ago||Anyone going?||
Is anyone else going to the game? It looks like a cozy stadium -- sort of like Ryan Field. My son and I are going to get there early and hang out. Never been to Bloomington before but looking forward to it. Go Blue!
ps: I have no idea where to park. Single game parking passes are sold out apparently. Any suggestions?

I woke up today thinking "something horrible. Something unspeakably horrible happened yesterday." And then it all came rushing back into my head. The horrible thing is that I am going through a divorce. And also MIchigan football lost in a way that ripped my liver out -- both make me feel like today is going to be one more round of misery.
So thank you to everyone who posts stuff like this, and thank you to all of the Michigan faithful who write incisive, grammatically correct, comforting stuff on this board. I mean it.

Wisonsin's Owen Daniels was a qb recruit who is now obviously a tight end in the NFL. I think a shoulder injury forced the switch with him, but it's not that out of the ordinary. In any case, it seems like in at least a few cases JH likes players to see what it's like on the other side of the ball. It seems like it would be an enlightening exercise.

I was just responding to the idea that the only way you could make a lot of money was through football. It was a stupid thing to say and clearly not obviously meant as a joke.
Full disclosure: I really liked Ondre Pipkins, and I can understand how it would be awful to be told by your new superstar coach that your playing days are over. One of my favorite Michigan players was Alan Branch, and I always hoped Ondre would follow in his footsteps.
I would be psyched if he did well at Texas Tech. I worry, though, that if he has already had three concussions he might wind up like Muhammed Ali by the time he's 50.
Take care. I don't like bragging either.

|30 weeks 14 hours ago||I believed I would be a||
I believed I would be a millionaire when I was 14/15 and here is what I did to reach that goal:
I got good grades, applied to and got a degree from Michigan. That enabled me to get a job where I make lots of money and provide for my entire family.
I also never had to go to Lubbock, TX -- so I've got that going for me as well.

Sometimes reading this board/blog makes me proud to be a Michigan alum. I am serious. We all obviously love Michigan football, but its cool that everyone is so informed about other aspects of life as well. And we can argue civilly about things like the demise of print culture, the ethics of people like Zell etc.
Just think how this contrasts with, say, the Paul Finebaum show.
