Because getting fired from Michigan football seems to be a proverbial springboard for comeback success elsewhere anyway. See Rodriguez and Arizona's demolition of Oregon. Or Gerg Robinson. Or Scott Shafer.

|1 week 5 days ago||Can someone remind me why||

|1 week 5 days ago||Ohio was 9-0 and ranked No. 1 all year||
It was Bo's signature win and only signature win.
Hoke won the 2011 games over ND, Nebraska and Va Tech with Rodriguez's players. Bo won the Ohio game and finished 8-3 with Bump Elliott's.
I was not over the moon with the Hoke hire, but the decision has been made. It would be program suicide to make changes again after 3 years, unless you want to see Michigan football dive in deeper into the certainty pool of being "Baylored".
There are no quick fixes anymore. Plus, the University of Michigan, it's football program and culture doesn't want that. They want tradition and brand above all else. Since 2005 Michigan football has been on a steady decline of empire due to coaching nepotism, incompetence, complacency and a dysfunctional superiority complex combined with ancestor worship. Michigan did not grab the best candidate. They got the comfortable candidate.
I say that changing now is going to do more harm than good. We should hunker down and ride out the shit storm for another year or two. By then Hoke's players will be 2 to 3 years in the system. Then we can judge the body of work from a more distinct and clear perspective. Hoke can't be that bad. Michigan fans put up with Lloyds B.S. year after year (7-5s, 8-4s and 9-3s pretty much with a few 10+ win seasons sprinkled in).
|1 week 5 days ago||Michigan ran the same offense||
that year, but with a lot more option play because Zurbrugg had decent option skills and good footspeed, but his passing was suspect. Michigan quickly became one dimensional on offense, which opponents were able to control.
Harbaugh was very talented and highly recruited back in 1982, but in 1984 was only a Soph and had very limited playing experience. Michigan's offense was anemic in the first 4 games of the 1984 that Harbaugh started, which did not bode well despite a hot start (beating Miami). 1984 was a lot like 1979 and 1975 years when Michigan had to turn to inexperienced QBs. Unlike 1979 (8-4) and 1975 (8-2-2) seasons, 1984 ended worse because of turnovers and the team's overall youth. .
|1 week 5 days ago||Firing Hoke in year 3 is dumb||
I know it's in our American culture and all to want the quick fix, the instant gratification,, the fast drive-thru service, the win right now, but that's not how it works in most cases.
Overnight success happens, but it's rare. Normally it takes time, persistence and patience and a shit load of luck.
I for one don't want UM football to be Baylored with flavor-of-the-month coaching change decisions by the AD. Most successful football programs take a few years to get rolling, just like any other expensive project.
All this "this is Michigan" crap is just that, political theater and sound bites to please the faithful, nothing more. If you fall in love with everything some guys says, then you can be convinced of anything. Harbaugh is not coming to Ann Arbor, Michigan. He's in Palo Alto where he grew up, and it's an awesome place to live and raise a family. People love it when Hoke said he'd walk or crawl or inch-worm to Ann Arbor (to coach here). So yeah, the guy definitely loves Michigan. Check that box.. But can he win at Michigan? Clearly he can. He's 26-11 in 3 years and has won some games over good competition with 8+ or 9+ wins.
Hoke has not yet won a signature game in his career over a 10 win team yet.
But Bo didn't either. Between 1969 and 1989, Bo's signature wins were over 8-2 Ohio in 1969, 8-3 UCLA in 1972, 9-3 Texas A&M in 1977, 9-3 Ohio in 1977, and 9-3 Notre Dame in 1978 and probably 9-3 Nebraska in 1985/86*.
It wasn't for 17 years until Bo finally beat a team that achieved 10 wins: 1988 USC (10-1) in the Rose Bowl, and that was a come from behind win too.
*Yes Ohio went 10-3 in 1986, but were 9-1 when they lost to Michigan.
|1 week 5 days ago||There was 2010 win vs 9-4 Air Force||

|1 week 5 days ago||Bo was one of college football's greatest coaches||
His record speaks for itself. His competitors respect him greatly. And his players loved him.
I love to hear the team speech. It's applicable even today - for football, for work and life.
Michigan football has been down in recent years because it's lost hold of the winning ingredients, which was excellent coaching, excellent recruiting and tremendous fan support. All three of these ingredients have waned in recent years for a number of reasons (good and bad). What we're all witnessing is the culmination of a series of unfortunate events. Hoke is not a master tactician like Bo or Woody were. But I'm sure he is an inspirational leader, recruiter and motivator. He's relied on Mattison and Borges to make up for his short-comings on strategy and tactics. Bo did the same, as he was not a master of all. Bo had Bill McCartney, Jerry Hanlon, Terrell Burton, Gary Moeller, Lloyd Carr, Elliott Uzelac and Don Nehlen - some very passionate coaches.
Firing Hoke would be a huge mistake right now. Michigan can't afford more coaching turnover and program turmoil. That would interrupt the rebuilding process and disrupt recruiting further. I recommend UM stay the course with Hoke for another 2 to 3 years. After that, Michigan will have allowed the investment cycle to have run it's course.

and it takes a lot of concerted practice to do it well. My observation is that running option plays sporadically tends to backfire on you. Denard Robinson seemed to struggle with reads and the keep/pitch decisions, not to mention the pitches themselves. Devin is no different.
With the right coaching techniques any QB (fast or slow) can learn to do it really well.
But it has to be an important play for your offense. I just don't think Michigan views option football as particularly important. I think it's stupid because with Gardner you could create some huge mismatches on the edge.
|2 weeks 20 hours ago||This is the thing teenaged and young men just don't get||
So you have to sit down and explain it to them.
If a person is just a little bit incapacitated (been drinking, drunk, been smoking, doing drugs, injured, sedated, sleeping, or stoned), then consent cannot be provided.
So going to parties or going into bars to quote "pick up chicks", may be fun and a right of passage, but it's also ridden with danger.
Jameis Winston is accused, according to the press clipping, of sexual battery, which I could be wrong, but depending on the state, is not equivalent to forceable rape. In Florida, it may be just unwanted sexual touching. Not sure. He is definitely innocent until proven guilty.
If this evidence suggests sexual battery (unwanted sexual touching), then I wonder whether the consent question can be easily crushed by the victim simply stating: "I had been drinking that night, and not thinking clearly (I was incapacitated, so I could not possibly grant consent!)".
I wonder sometimes how many dudes have fallen into this situation. Not many probably, but holy shit when you do...

Ridiculous. Those are awesome seats for what would be a dream, bucket list experience for some.
In two years, that ticket will be 5 times higher in price no doubt, or more.
But even David Brandon and 6-3 before the Iowa game cannot halt the magnificent force of supply and demand curves.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||What does this all mean for Iowa though, and Ferentz verb.||
I think Michigan's defense is getting better, but the offense continues to suck.
Nice defense work against Nebraska and Northwestern, and they hung in as best they could against an otherwise anemic MSU offense that is clearly improving on the year.
On paper Iowa looks like Northwestern in offensive performance (scoring, ypg, etc.)
Defensively they're pretty much Ohio, except way better at pass defense and a little shittier at run defense.
Then of course Iowa's mojo is always up vs. Michigan in Kinnick. Plus it's Iowa's final home game for their seniors, so there's that.
A win in Iowa City would be huge for Michigan. It's possible, because Iowa is a vulnerable football team, just not in the areas where Michigan can be strong (passing).
I think Michigan shocks Iowa on Saturday as initially Ferentz refuses to Ferentz , but then, against his better judgement, Ferentzes anyway.

No. 1 ranked recruiting class of 2005. Wolverines should have been laying waste to the BIG10 in 2007 and 2008, not losing to App State or finishing 3-9.
Yet back then everyone was just too busy screaming "NO EXCUSES!" and "UNACCEPTABLE!"
I see we've evolved into a kinder, gentler, more forgiving fanbase. I guess.
Either that or our testicles are in a jar above the refrigerator.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Except offensively Moeller made dramatic changes||

recruiting when Bo retired in 1989 and even when Mo was replaced by Carr. The talent kept pouring in regardless, mainly because all three personalities were still around and because Moeller and Carr had always been great recruiters.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Agreed. 2015 is probably the year Michigan||
breaks out with some very experienced and talented football teams. No matter how incompetent Borges might seem right now, the last thing Michigan football needs is staff turnover or regime change.
Ohio will be a very good team in 2015 too, by the way.
You don't really need a top 10 recruiting class to get to the BIG10 title game.
Case in point: MSU is going to finish 11-1 based on a friendly schedule and recruiting classes of 2009, 2010 and 2011 that finished like this: 37th, 32nd and 27th.
It's worth noting that since 2007 Dantonio has NEVER had a class ranked higher than 27th
Michigan has a good staff. With program growth, consistency and good recruiting, the wins and championships will come.

Hand has probably been pensive and quiet for good reason, given all the "Roll Tide" hollering going on on his cell phone 24/7.

But I think deep down he really likes UM, likes the coaches and would feel very comfortable with the new teammates in Ann Arbor.

UM OL player starts history, so we could make a table out of that and then try to find a starting lineup table by game for 2013.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||On the Oline youth and performance correlation||
Would there be a source for data as to the number of starts an OL player has had as a determinant value of their so called "experience level"?
I'm not sure where to find such a a data source, but I'm thinking Michigan would predictably score out "experience rich" at tackle (Lewan, Schofield) in 2013, but quite "experience poor" from both guards down to center, and dare I say QB in terms of starts compared to other BIG10 football teams.
Looking at Michigan's OL roster 2011-2012-2013, one could determine the following:
2011 (11-2) - 6 upperclassmen, 9 underclassmen
2 seniors (Molk, Huyge)
4 juniors (Omameh, Koury, E.Mealer, Barnum)
3 sophomores (Gunderson, Lewan, Schofield)
6 freshman (Bryant, J. Miller, Mateus, Glasgow, Burzynski, Dallas Williams)
2012 (8-5) - 6 upperclassmen, 11 underclassmen
3 seniors (Omameh, E. Mealer, Barnum)
3 juniors (Gunderson, Lewan, Schofield)
2 sophomore (Burzynski, Mateus)
9 freshman (Bars, Braden, Bryant, Gibbs, Glasgow, Kalis, Magnuson, J. Miller, Pliska)
2013 (6-3 ytd) - 5 upperclassmen, 14 underclassmen
3 seniors (Gunderson, Lewan, Schofield)
2 juniors (Burzynski, Mateus)
3 sophomores (Bryant, Glasgow, Miller)
11 freshman (Bars, Bosch, Braden, Dawson, Fox, Kalis, Kugler, Magnusson, Pliska, Samuelson, Tulley-Tillman)
Contrast this to Michigan 2003 Rose Bowl team: 11 upperclassmen, 7 underclassmen
7 seniors (Baas, Pape, Pearson, D. Solomon, C. Morgan, J. Gaston, A. Christopfel)
4 juniors (Lentz, Stenavich, Henige, Schoonover)
5 sophomores (Bihl, Kolodziej, R. Riley, Berishaj)
2 freshman (Jake Long, P. Sharrow)
In terms of OL experience, Michigan seems to be upside down. It's unlikely Michigan remains upside down much longer.

If you're going to waste a guy, then make it Kerridge.
Kerridge's assignment could be to hightail his ass out to the flat. On a counter to this option play, he's catching a quick pass for between 5 to 10+ yards versus oh nobody.
Which brings up the point about fullbacks and TE at Michigan. WTF happened?
In the Hokeian language, Aaron Shea is frequently uttered - as reflexive verb, noun and adjective. Yet it's a pointless word all the same. Hoke seems unaware of the fact that Michigan FB's are irrelevant in Borges' offense.
I don't recall Borges ever using FBs to any meaningful extent at UCLA, Auburn or even SD State. This continues at Michigan. So yeah defenses can safely ignore Michigan's FBs completely. Ta-da!?
Every player who hits the field should be an offensive weapon of some description. Michigan's fullbacks are always blocker weapons, which can work. But having them do some other stuff might give them pause to tee-off on Gardner and Toussaint every damn play.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||Surprising with over 70+ years collective coaching experience||
with Hoke, Borges and Mattison, one would witness such a massive performance breakdown by the offense. Everyone on offense just seems utterly lost.
I greatly respect Hoke's decision "to delegate with confidence" the offensive and defensive coordination duties and schemes to the experts (Borges and Mattison) each week. I would not want a manager of Hoke's limited coaching breadth and depth stepping in an trying to micro-managing things for the offense. And he will never do that, which is a damn good thing.
I agree that nobody needs to know what's going on behind closed doors with Hoke and his staff. That'd be the case anyway - whether Michigan is 6-3 staring down the barrel of 6-6, or already 9-0 with reservations for the BIG10 title game.

Alabama has to beat LSU and @Auburn. Not easy.
FSU is going to road-grade the rest of their schedule and they'll beat Miami in the title game decisively I think.
I'm hoping Ohio gets bit by Michigan or MSU, but they'll probably finish 13-0 because they have a great offense and a decent enough defense.

Michigan's defense played like a middling BIG10 defense on Saturday, which normally is a good thing when facing BIG10 opponents.
Michigan State's offense by now is pretty much equal to Minnesota's offense, except with something like -200 more yards than da Gophers in penalties. Usually MSU is more dangerous to themselves than their opponents. They are improved though.
Things are going to get more challenging for the UM defense.
MSU's offense is only slightly worse than NW and Iowa. Nebraska and Ohio are far better than MSU.
Nebraska - Scoring 4th (38ppg), Rushing 4th (468/g), Passing 8th)
at Northwestern - Scoring 10th (28ppg), Rushing 6th (Siemian!!), Passing 6th
at Iowa - Scoring 11th (25 ppg), Rushing 7th, Passing 9th
Ohio - Scoring 1st (48.2 ppg, OMG), Rushing 1st (301/g), Passing 5th
MSU - Scoring 8th (30 ppg), Rushing 5th, Passing 10th

Dan Samuelson #25 OT
Mason Cole #21 OT
Kyle Bosch #3 OT

If Michigan keeps this up on the recruiting side, the talent gap with the MSU's and even Wisconsin's should widen and get closer to Ohio's.

There is beauty in that simplicity, until it changes and you have someone whos extent of offensive knowledge is " the power play" trying to put a governor on the position coaches, i think youre asking for a worse outcome.

There really is nothing more under the hood, in the glove box or under the seat. This is it. They knew this was a critical game, and they came out with the same old ham and eggs menu, except they fucked it up. There simply is no expanded playbook. Despite our recruit rankings we are to believe UM has less talent, and we do have less experience. Yet knowing these constraints, hoke and staff are stil slaving away at making the product something it cannot be this year. Michigan is going 6-6, 7-5 at best. There will be no staff changes with brandon on the hook and with Hokes stoicism, so i literally do not understand what people are talking about when they mention such ideas. It will not happen. Find some good in this year because Maryland and Rutgers are coming soon. Yeah, I said it.

MSU won a share of the Big Ten title though at 8-3, because they lost to Purdue in their season opener.

Got to stop Langford. He's responsible for most of MSU's scoring.
In MSU's loss to ND, the stat that just screams out at you with both teams pretty even (horrible) was MSU had 10 penalties for 115 yards.
|5 weeks 1 day ago||Good question. Jeremy Langford||
has had 3 or 4 straight 100-yd games, but Iowa held him to 43.
Michigan has a stingy run defense, and I think they will do well against MSU there, even with Cook trying to run Tebow style. That said, MSU's run offense is better than Michigan's right now, even with Gardner.
UM's passing defense is not good, and does not have a decent pass rush. MSU is not a good passing team (8th in the league). I do think Michigan gives up some big plays passing with Cook throwing to Fowler and Kings, but will hopefully nab some INTs.
Having Jake Ryan back and 100% is a big plus for Michigan.

I've definitely enjoyed SC's contributions because he knows the x's and o's better than anyone, and his comments/answers have either challenged my whining, or opened up my mind to see the situation differently, or both. This is valuable to me.
So if I'm one of the idiots whose previous comments and "bullshit attitude" pissed him off so much as to leave mgoblog for a few days, then I apologize. Come back SC. You make mgoblog a better place dude.

Michigan squandered an 11 point 4th quarter lead at Penn State, and then found a way to lose the game by 3 pts in multiple OT.
Last Saturday Urban Meyer, Tom Herman just plain rogered Penn State 63-14 with almost 700 yards of total offense, 8 yards per carry on the ground - worst lost in 100+ years for PSU football.
Michigan couldn't run damn yard against Penn State. WTF?
So when you're obviously out-manned and out-gunned, all that's left is to get mean. I mean plumb mad dog mean. Borges is Mr. Nice guy on Saturday. It's Halloween week goddammit, I want to see a sociopath in the booth calling plays with malice aforethought!
|5 weeks 2 days ago||A lot of pressure on both teams||
MSU has to win it to control their own destiny. If they lose to UM Saturday, then MSU will requierd help from others to beat UM to get to the title game.
If Michigan loses Saturday, then reaching the title game is probably gone bye-bye, but they can go out and wreck other people's pathetic BIG10 seasons (and maybe Ohio's aspirations) with malice aforethought.
I'd like UM to win this rivalry game because I think the seniors deserve it.
|5 weeks 2 days ago||UM has "owned" MSU on the football recruiting trail||
with the exception of 2011 possibly.
Otherwise, it's not been close.
I swear this year, 2013, has to officially be the last year where Michigan fans offer up the "past attrition", "injuries", "youth" and "inexperience" excuses. It might be correct, but it sounds really lame man. As if MSU and other opponents are immune from these same things.
|5 weeks 2 days ago||I agree. Michigan must give Hoke, Borges, Mattison more time.||
than it provided Rodriguez. You typically need 4 to 5 years to recover from the previous admin and buid up your own. Getting pissed off and grabbing pitchforks at year 3 (UM will probably finish 7-5 to 8-4) just increases the likelihood of travelling down the infamous Baylor experience. Patience.
|5 weeks 2 days ago||I think this article nicely refutes the claim of "MSU D sucks"||
MSU's defense is the real deal. Also, this just in, Indiana's offense is not sucking either.
|5 weeks 2 days ago||Just dumb rhetoric for the masses||
None of it matters. The word "bullying" strikes a chord with a lot of people now. Michigan has to overcome the "unnecessary roughness", facemasks, holding and pass interference, and just play football.
In my opinion, there's really no excuse why Michigan football, which has recruited at a level superior to MSU for many, many years, should be losing football games to MSU on a regular basis. Now there are very good reasons for those past 4 losses and the one butt-hair win like last year, but there's really no excuse for it.
That all said, I can dislike Dantonio all I want, but I think MSU football is in a far better state now than it ever achieved under far better coaches like Darryl Rodgers, George Perles and Nick Saban.
I think MSU's days of beating Michigan on the regular are over though, probably starting next year.
But mark my words, Spartan fans will no doubt surf these 4 or 5 "dominating" wins over Michigan for the next half century.
|5 weeks 2 days ago||A must-win game for Michigan||
For MSU less so, except on the "OMG rivalry!" side of things.
I think Sparty can lose to Michigan on Saturday, then win out the rest of their games vs. NU, NW and Minny and still arrive at the title game. MSU would no doubt get a ton of help from Iowa, Nebraska and Ohio vs. Michigan.
Meanwhile, Michigan's margin for error gets tighter. UM cannot afford another loss right now to MSU, because of Nebraska, at Iowa, at NW and Ohio games in sequence.
Either way, I'm not sure it matters given what we now know. Whoever wins the Legends division is simply going to have the privilege of getting smoked by Ohio in the title game.
|5 weeks 3 days ago||Gee, must be nice not to be held accountable||
for the onfield performance of the personnel you're paid to manage and coordinate, while pulling down $650K/yr and $100K more each year in deferred payments.
|5 weeks 3 days ago||I don't think Michigan has "beaten anybody" either||
This is a really shitty BIG10 once again. But we do know how Michigan lost to a "nobody" at Penn State, though admittedly Michigan pretty much beat themselves in that one
With tight, emotional road rivalry games like this one, this is frequently the case. It's rarely about elaborate schemes or opening up the playbook. It's more about not beating yourself with errors.
The only dangerous team on the field this Saturday is Michigan - as much to themselves as much to opponents. MSU's offense isn't impotent. It's just not very good.
What I remember was, after the 12-10 loss last year, Mark Dantonio said he was elated not to have to face Denard Robinson anymore. This year Michigan again returns with a QB leading the team in rushing. MSU has not faced a legitimate rushing threat at QB all year, except maybe Jake Ruddock of Iowa (4.6 ypc, 5 TDs).
|5 weeks 3 days ago||I disagree about MSU's D and "zero tests" this year.||
Indiana was the biggest test (on offense) this year for both teams (thus far). Both teams faced the Hoosiers at home. In my opinioin MSU dealt with the Indiana problem much better than Michigan did.
UM vs Indiana:
Gave up 47 points and 572 yards
MSU vs. Indiana:
Gave up 28 points and only 351 yards.
MSU's defense is ranked No. 1 in the nation for good reason. Yes, their offense does suck, but it has probably improved since early season debacles against WMU and USF.
Over the year, MSU's quarterback issues, penalties and shitty offensive performance hasn't hurt them very much. While Michigan has a good rushing D, they have no pass rush, and a horrible pass defense (255 YPG, 10th in league)!!
On offense Michigan really has no running game, unless it's Gardner taking the rep. UM's passing game is scary good, but MSU's pass defense is tops in the league by a huge margin.

|5 weeks 3 days ago||Just 4 years ago: the "feel good" story of Hernandez||
Recruited by Gators assistant coach Steve Addazio, who grew up just outside Bristol, Hernandez visited campus for the 2006 spring game and made his choice.
It was a hard time at home after his dad's death.
"It was a mess with a lot of family issues, fighting and disagreements," he says. "I'm the person who keeps both sides of my family together, and when I wasn't around it was crazy."
Hernandez played in every game his freshman season, starting three, but off the field he was still reeling.
"It was a rough process, and I didn't know what to do for him," Terri says. "He would rebel. It was very, very hard, and he was very, very angry. He wasn't the same kid, the way he spoke to me. The shock of losing his dad, there was so much anger."
Says D.J., who is three years older, "He was just lost."
Meyer stepped in when he realized a good kid was headed down the wrong path. "Urban became his father more or less and the team was his family," Terri says.
Every morning, Hernandez arrived at Meyer's office at 7:30 and read the Bible with his coach.
One day in February 2008 when Hernandez was struggling, Meyer met with him at noon in his office.
"It was a 10-hour meeting. We finished at my house at 10 o'clock. Then it continued the next day," Meyer says. "When your guy, your idol, your soul is taken from you, how do you deal with that? I just think there's a part of his life that was not there. He needed discipline; he needed someone to talk to."
Says Hernandez, "He helped me through a lot of that stuff. I would have horrible days, and he taught me to put things aside and work through it. We have a great relationship even though he wants to kill me half the time."
How quickly one's life can got to hell in a picnic basket.

|6 weeks 15 hours ago||Phil Steele's 2006 "Baylored" term = constant coaching turnover||
and the consequences. Not entirely unfamiliar to Michigan football either in recent years.
What it means for a football program to get "BAYLORED" by Phil Steele, written at the time Guy Morriss was the the coach at BU:
"OK let's take a look at the Baylor situation. Constant head coaching changes are a bad thing. I mentioned earlier that when a new head coach comes in he struggles early as the players have to learn his systems and he has to learn the players strengths and weaknesses. He also inherits another coaches players and many times they not only do not fit his system but they signed with the school because of the other coaching staff. Many times personality or disciplinary conflicts arise and many players depart a program after the coaching change, leaving a team short on scholarships as well. I call this section "Baylored" because that school provides the most prominent example of how constant head coaching changes hurt a program. Lets go back to 1996. Baylor had 5 winning years out of 6 despite facing their tough SWC foes on a weekly basis. They were 7-5 in 1994 and 7-4 in 1995 and the amazing part was that HC Chuck Reedy was bringing in recruiting classes on par with teams like Texas and Texas A&M, even finishing ahead of the big boys some years! In this day and age a winning record for a Big 12 team would make them a perennial bowl team. In 1996 they had a nightmare season as the team was besieged by injuries and also dropped some close games like a 28-24 loss to Oklahoma, a 28-23 loss to Texas and a triple OT loss 49-42 to Missouri (those type of losses would look pretty good currently). They still finished 4-7 and clearly, if not for the injuries, could have had a winning season. Amazingly Baylor FIRED coach Reedy! That was 1996. They have played NINE years of football since and have topped THREE WINS just once in that span (last year)(5)! First they brought in Dave Roberts in 1997 and then after two losing seasons FIRED him! They brought in Kevin Steele and gave him 4 years before the axe fell. As mentioned with constant coaching changes keeping the full compliment of scholarship players has been a problem. Baylor has a record of 8-72 in the Big 12 and some years has been outgained by an avg of over 200 ypg in league play. Hopefully they will give Guy Morriss some time as he made strides with this team that has been handicapped by constant coaching turnover."

Michigan is 33rd in the nation in fewest penalties (36 year to date, 5.14 per game). They're in good company, with Alabama tied at 33rd in penalties.
Michigan State is ranked 89th in the nation in fewest penalties (47 year to date, 6.71 per game). Their neighbor at 89th is Notre Dame, the team they lost to.
Is it hard to predict what happens when UM comes to EL? No.
The last two MSU home games read like the refs got paid off after the USF season high:
WMU, 6 penalties 75 yards
USF 9 penalties, 94 yards
YSU 2 penalities 19 yards
@ND 8 penalties, 86 yards
@Iowa 8 penalties, 70 yadrs
Purdon't, 2 penalties, 14 yards
In short, I would expect a lot of helmet twisting, uncalled pass interference and adult onset blindness for the refs.
Still, MSU is not the worst. Get a load of Nebraska at 97th in the nation in fewest penalties with 43 year to date after just 6 games.

on MSU, even just a little.

But I'm a big fan of Art Briles and Baylor's offense. They are a lot of fun to watch, and I'm pleased to know that more NFL teams may try to adopt this faster pace, spread methodology too. 45 years of pro-set run-run-pass-punting on Sunday's is boring as hell.
