|9 hours 15 min ago||Utah is probably better at football right now.||
They've had two back-to-back 5-7 seasons in the PAC-12. Whittingham has to be under increased pressure now to turn things around this fall and get them back to a bowl game at least. They are in a tough division to ever win the PAC-12 now with USC, ASU, UCLA and Arizona. Tough row to hoe.
Everyone expected Utah to beat Idaho State and Fresno State, but I don't think anyone predicted the manner in which they did it. Utah thoroughly pulverized these opponents, and probably left another 14 or 17 pts on the field in each game. They did not commit many errors.
Michigan's football team is young and still learning. They're making a lot of costly mistakes, and allowing inferior teams to hang around, make big plays, and gain from momentum swings.
Utah is very similar to Notre Dame in their offensive style and weaponry. Golson is better than Wilson, but not by that much. And I think Utah is way better on defense right now than the Irish are.
I have always had a bad feeling about this game vs. Utah.
It's only Tuesday, but unlike some here, I haven't entirely forgotten the Notre Dame and Miami game performances. Utah has a stout defense. And by now I think we know how Michigan's offense responds against stout defenses. Typically not well.

But "integrity" doesn't score touchdowns nor win football games. It also doesn't win championships.
Look at Ohio, Alabama, Florida State, Oregon and Auburn football. I rest my case.
College football and the media have exactly what they wants. It's the perfect recipe. The above mentioned products create a massive dose of arrogance, hatred and controversy that keeps the interwebs broiling for years, and the media machines all rolling in a Scrooge McDuck vault of gold and cash. Michigan's integrity would ruin this. Wolverine Athletics is obviously clueless and way late to the game on this fact: In college football, Integrity is for chumps.

What I don't understand is why anyone anywhere on the planet is even remotely shocked by this chain of events.
The sports media is playing really dumb here, and viewers are just playing along with the gag like "OMG, here it is....here it is.... this is the part where I pretend that I'm shocked and outraged! I really can't believe this is happening".
You have a massively corrupt organization like the NFL overcharged with incompetence and nepotism, and for which the national level of contempt could not be higher. It has dominated the landscape for 50 years and have been doing everything in their power to preserve their monopoly. Their only rivals are in the most hated things of America. Things like the NCAA, Justin Bieber and Donald Sterling. There are decades of examples of organizational unreasonable heavy-handedness, ridiculous leniency and faux moral grand-standing.
So now a leader of this organization does something incompetent, and then does something incompetent again, and people are like "OMG! WTF!"
If tomorrow the NFL and all of its products exploded into a million quark particles followed by an all-consuming conflagration, it would be none too soon.
As for NFL fans, I just don't understand them. The NFL product has been horrible for years, and the weekly media circus around it is unwatchable.

I remember that one: http://mgoblog.com/content/perverse-joy-abject-stupidity
"If you were there, and stayed there, and did not move from your seat until Nick Sheridan's final pass sailed out of bounds, you have completed the final challenge. This is the worst it can ever be: an awful team that does things specifically intended to hurt you playing a meaningless game against Northwestern in weather not fit for man nor beast. With multiple infuriating million-year-long media timeouts in the fourth quarter. That they lose.
If you put up with it (and far, far fewer than the announced 107,000 did), you are hardcore. You have a black belt in fandom. You get the Fandom Endurance III merit badge. If anyone ever questions your Michigan allegiance, you can just say "I was at the 2008 Northwestern game" and they will have to step off. If they fail to do so with sufficient obsequiousness I'm pretty sure you can cave their skull in with your finger.*
So I salute you man.
Personally I don't consider these "awful events" anymore. "Awful events" and Michigan football chronicles are officially one and the same now.
It's 2014. Somehow the distance between today and the awful events like "Northwestern 2008" and MSU 2011 still seems too short. The frequency of shitty football is still too high.
And I can't get this damn score out of my head: Notre Dame 0, Michigan 31.
So cheerlead away, if it helps you cope. I'm too busy wallowing in the reality that is called right now.

|6 days 10 hours ago||Actually you were on to something here||
It was not a shut out, but in terms of the category of "Michigan's worst defeats", the 1976 lost to unranked Purdue 14-16 in West Lafayette has to be one of the worst ever in Michigan history.
Michigan was ranked No. 1 and also had a Top 10 ranked total defense and the no. 1 rushing attack and scoring attack in the country (Leach, Lytle, Huckleby and no. 1 RB recruit in the land, Russell Davis, WB Jim Smith). Michigan was loaded.
That 1976 Purdue team was a no-name group, and not very talented at all. Their best player was a gritty tailback named Scott Dierking, who became a 1,000 yrd rusher for the NY Jets. Purdue finished 4-4 in league and 5-6 overall, and was among four (4) other BIG10 teams that finished with the same overall record.
Bo Schembechler told reporters, "It hurts a lot. We don't accept it. . . . We shouldn't accept it . . . because we should have won. No defeat is good. we got down there at the end and we should have scored. But when you depend on winning on a forward pass or a field goal, you're in trouble."
A year later NCAA football blocking rules for the forward pass changed, and college football (and Woody and Bo's 3yrds+cloud of dust offensive philosophy) would never be the same.

It's Tuesday and I'm still trying to make sense of it all. And UM playing "Winston here" (Miami of the Ohio) this Saturday isn't going to make things better.

|1 week 11 hours ago||I remember the press conference||
"I would have walked to the University of Michigan...."
Brandon had someone in Hoke who was very familiar with the Michigan football tradition, was aware of the high standards at UM, and someone who genuinely wanted the job.
When I think of the fact that more may be calling for Hoke's head by the end of the season, especially if Michigan loses to MSU and Ohio, it is sort of sad. This is not like the RR situation, which was a slam dunk. This had to be Hoke's lifetime achievement and dream job, and he had so many inside and outside supporters it was ridiculous and pretty much from day one. Getting Mattison to join was a huge coup as well. Hoke is paid very well and would get another job quite easily, but it would be a very sad day to break it off with him. Football coaches come to Michigan to coach and retire. They don't come to Ann Arbor to coach and be fired.
|1 week 13 hours ago||I think the trash talk is 100% completely deserved.||
I get the whole "but they're all gonna laugh at you!" meme.
I think it should be embraced. They're not wrong. All college football programs wind up in the toilet eventually (see Alabama, Notre Dame, USC, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Miami, Texas, Penn State and Michigan). No one is immune. It's just that Michigan football has been circling the drain a little longer than others. It should not surprise that nobody outside our UM circle of trust understands why. The fact that the University of Michigan is comparatively so goddamned well off makes this even more confusing to people.
If the University of Michigan is serious about this college football business, and genuinely cares about championships in college football, then adjustments WILL be made to achieve that objective. Right now, there's just not enough pain or pressure on UM management to change anything at all, because people have been so busy praising the image in the program's rear view mirror to care about the present, and for fear about what more change will do, "what if change fails?", etc., etc.
Somehow the decision to hire a 47-50 MAC coach one winning season, no coordinating experience, and prior ties as a former UM position coach was considered wise. Even Bo "Bo who?" Schembechler arrived at Michigan with a 40-17-3 record.
Michigan hasn't won a Big Ten title in 10 years (2004 shared) and no outright title for 11 (2003).
This doesn't make sense to us, and it makes no sense to anyone else outside.
I think Mgoblog is more real and not as conformist as most college sports fan communities. There's plenty of self-flagellation and critique to be found here over the last 9 years as we've tried to contemplate the meaning of life and just what the fuck is wrong with our football program.

|1 week 1 day ago||I do see value in asking questions.||
Maybe people on this blog unfortunately have had experience with that kind of shit? What if people care and want to learn about what really happened (chronology of events), or want to better understand domestic violence, warning signs, etc.? How is that over the line?
This same woman who was brutalized by Ray Rice decided to MARRIED HIM one day after he was formally indicted by a grand jury on third-degree aggravated assault for striking her unconscious. Not unusual for victims of domestic violence perhaps, but it's still way fucked up. Nothing to see here?
Look, call the NFL management the bunch of incompetent, hippocrite fuckwits that they are. Call Ray Rice a violent, knuckle-dragging monster with anger control issues, or a misogynist, if that fits better. But I don't agree that questions can't be asked about the victim(s) in this case, or that nothing can possibly be learned from the chain of events leading up to it. That's horseshit.
I fully understand that for some, they don't want to know any more. Guy hits girl and they're done. OK, well, that's up to them.
|1 week 1 day ago||It's so damn hot. Milk was a bad choice.||
|1 week 1 day ago||"Brady, you're out of your element."||
Full disclosure: I'm outside. I don't know. I'm speculating here like most dolts. All of this could be completely wrong. This is an internet comment, and I should probably just read like the other 90% and not write anything as Brian suggests.
I view Hoke as a rare breed of HC. I don't think there are any others like him left in the BIG10 anymore. I can't remember an HC quite like him except maybe Tim Brewster at Minnesota. I don't say that to be intentionally contentious.
We have to remember that Hoke has never been a coordinator level football coach. This is Brady Hoke: He is a DL coach (and a damn good one), a great recruiter, and a team figurehead/cheerleader/HC. That's pretty much it. There's not a massive remainder of cerebral stuff that he brings to the table, in my view. This is not his fault nor necessarily a bad thing in all situations, except for perhaps the game management consequences which we've been observing since his arrival at UM (clock management, time outs, etc.).
I'm just saying he's not the kind of coach who brings a ton of proficiency and skill about the football game plan and strategy himself. He probably brings a ton of expertise to the defensive line element of the game plan, which I'm sure Mattison loves the most about working with Hoke. It seems to me that the game plan and strategy has been delegated (with confidence) to the coordinators (Nussmeier and Mattison) by Hoke, much like it was to Stan Parrish at Ball State (a good OC, but a horrible HC) and Borges at SDSU and Michigan.
I do believe Hoke APPROVES the final product (the game plan) after it is drawn up and prepared by his highly skilled, proficient and detail oriented coordinators, but I don't think he's part of nuts and bolts strategy formulation process. Because its not his forte. So intervening on things like offensive snap tempo, a tactic of an offensive strategy, seems out of place and out of character for Hoke. I could be wrong.
|1 week 1 day ago||Unlikely Michigan wins 8 games||
I could be wrong. But I just can't visualize 8 wins anymore.
At 1-1, Michigan has 4 more away games to play this fall:
The only slam dunk win left is Miami (Ohio) this coming weekend.
While all other UM home games seem like potential wins, but it's not like home losses would shock anyone anymore following the 0-31 road shellacking to a undermanned ND squad. Suddenly what we liked to call an "undermanned" Indiana squad with 4 of 5 returning OL and TB Tevin Coleman looks pretty godammned terrifying yet again. Same for Utah, PSU and Maryland. I can visualize Michigan losing these football games.
I thought 8-4 was reasonable and likely before last weekend.
7-5 looks more and more like best case for Hoke in 2014. I'm aware that another 7-5 or 7-6 would go down like a fart in church.
|1 week 1 day ago||I'm not saying at all that Devin Gardner can't be a "pocket QB"||
He definitely can be. He has a Howitzer arm, can make all the throws on a line, and is genuinely terrifying when he's on.
But his mental game is still severely lacking. For a 5th year senior quarterback, it still seems remarkably easy for defenses to rattle him into the wrong behaviors that have been no doubt screamed and cussed about in the film room.
He's just not been coached well/correctly about what to do when protections break down.
Hours of 2012 and 2013 game film should have made these tendencies obvious to Nussmeier, who is a true QB coach in every sense. It may take time to undo what Gardner "learned" incorrectly, and teach him correct courses of action without extinguishing his positive improvisation skills completely.
|1 week 1 day ago||I cannot believe that Hoke||
leaves the game playcalling, strategy and tactics to his OC and then steps over to Nussmeier and says "Hey, make sure the guys huddle up nicely presnap on this next series (ore else)".
I mean, it could be true. I'm not saying it's not. But it would be the dumbest and least-value meddling contribution for a head coach of Brady Hoke's limited offensive proficiency to be making. So I refuse to believe that is what's happening.
I believe the reason the offense is getting slowly to the line is because:
a. the center is not rallying the rest of the line to the LOS immediately,
b. the QB is not leading this urgency to the LOS
c. the OC coach is not kicking asses in for failing to get to the LOS quickly,
d. the Offensive players still have road-game, deer-in-the-headlights about what is going on,
e. all of the above.
|1 week 1 day ago||Wait a minute, I don't understand this at all.||
Previous play is over.
You got knocked down to the ground.
You pick yourself up.
You jog over to the new spot of the ball and line up.
What is so goddamn complicated about that?
This was not happening in the ND game, or it was happening too slowly.
Why would this error not have been addressed by the coaches between series? At quarter ends? At half-time?
I don't understand why the Michigan offensive players need a whole freaking season or half even half a season to figure out that they need to move their asses. "Gee guys, we really should be getting to the line of scrimmage quicker and speed things up, so our QB and coordinators can make pre-snap reads!".
Why would it take a group of players weeks to comprehend something like this, that H.S. football players do straight out of the freaking gate? It makes zero sense, especially after months of spring and fall practice with the new OC and new playbook.
|1 week 1 day ago||The point about "pressure relief valves" is a good one.||
Nussmeier should already know Gardner's tendencies and weaknesses/errors from 2 years of QB film. Nuss can help him out here. Devin Gardner is fragile, man. Very fragile.
Gardner is a like a race horse that gets easily spooked and instinctually starts bolting and spinning around. Most of the time this behavior results in a sack, a fumble, an INT or a blocking penalty by some OL desperately trying to help. It's fucking disasterous.
The kid, bless his maize and blue fedora, is trying to do too much and too frequently holds on to the ball too damn long. Period.

I don't consider losing to 1981 Sugar Bowl bound 9-1-1 ND by 2pts on last second FG and to 10-1 South Carolina team with Heisman Rb George Rodgers by 3pts the same thing as losing to decimated Notre Dame in 2014 31-0. In no universe are these events the same thing. The facts on the ground today are that these players are lost and do not have an identity nor confidence in what they are doing. The also have no fire, which is unbelievable.
|1 week 3 days ago||Hoke isn't going anywhere||
David Brandon is staying, and so is Hoke. Harbaugh isn't coming. Michigan football must maintain its cronyist past. Let these truths detonate in our brains for once, right next to the 2013 Penn State loss and the butthair Northwestern win. Only then will we grasp the true horror that is modern Michigan football. It's not only horrible to watch, but there is no way out of the irrelevance. We are trapped in it. Does anyone remember how elated people were when 47-50 Hoke was hired? Fucking elated! |1 week 5 days ago||My prediction||
Michigan has a hard time stopping QB Everett Golson on the ground in this game. He'll have close to 90+ yards rushing, but UM frustrates his passing all game long with Okey blitz pressure and exemplary secondary play, despite a shit-ton of pass interference calls by the refs that give away 1st downs.
Rice had 367 total yards vs. Notre Dame last week, 226 through the air. Michigan is going to move the ball on the Irish with impunity via ground and air, and score a lot of points. The running game will struggle at times, but Irish will have no answer for Nussmeier's counters.
Michigan jumps out to a significant lead early with Funchess TDs and keeps it all game long. Special teams play, i.e. Punt return for TD or a blocked punt for TD seals the deal for Michigan.

4 Pass Interference
1 Defensive Holding
2 Personal Foul
3 offensive penalties

|1 week 6 days ago||What's interesting to me||
is that Notre Dame is a 5 pt favorite in this game.
Maybe it's because ND is 2-0 vs. Michigan at night in Notre Dame Stadium (1982, 2012).
|1 week 6 days ago||I don't know man||
Even as a DE, JMFR was not shy at all about popping through TE's and OT's and taking on blockers, shedding the shit out of them, and making huge plays in space. There were times when the OL guy was tackled along WITH the opposing RB by JMFR. I mean, in beast mode, this guy, goddamn.....
I know that DE and MLB are fundamentally different defensive positions with different responsibilities, behaviors and key reads, but wouldn't some of the same, aggressive but "stay put/reading-is-fundamental" type behaviors of a DE still come in mighty damn handy at MLB?
I think JMFR is better suited to play OLB/DE, but I'm still not understanding well why the positives displayed at DE are now potential (and likely) negatives at MLB.
Great write up Brian. Thank you.
Great comments by Space Coyote and others too.

|2 weeks 14 hours ago||Even keeled responses by the UM OC||
The thing that was really cool vs. App State were the base plays and derivative plays we saw all game long. Basic play, then derivative plays 1, 2, and 3 that looked similar in flow but with different tactics and outcomes.
Notre Dame can rough up and double Funchess next week if they choose, but Michigan has Norfleet, Darboh, Chesson and even the TBs out of the backfield catching the ball, which we haven't seen yet, but definitely will. Khalid Hill catching a first down pass? Why the hell not?Then there's Gardner to deal with too.
So I think the Irish could try to eliminate Devin Funchess Saturday night, and even if they have some success doing that, it's still not going to be easy. A variety of weapons means there is a price to be paid for malinvestment of defensive resources against an offense that finally appears to be be packing more than just One Funchess.
|2 weeks 15 hours ago||Not too upset.||
I'm not too upset about the change personally.
First, if anyone believes this is a permanent arrangement, then they are smoking doobies. UM vs ND will return and probably soon.
Today's ACC is made up of a number of former independent and Big East teams (Pitt, Syracuse, Boston College, FSU and Georgia Tech), who frequented Notre Dame's schedule at multiple points over the last several decades. Notre Dame wants to rekindle these instead of keeping Michigan on. Most reasonable people don't understand that decision, especially when the ND-Michigan game has been a college football staple for so long.
Notre Dame has already played like 160+ games vs. Big Ten teams since 1960, and has an overall winning record vs. BIG10 (.626, 105-63). They've played the Big Ten frequently. It is notable however that 68 of those wins came against MSU or Purdue, who have not been particularly powerful programs over this period. Only 14 of the 105 wins came against Michigan vs. 15 losses to Michigan. Similar stat vs. Northwestern by the way (14-14).
I have no problem with a hiatus of ND vs. Michigan, because I actually want to see Michigan extend its non-conference horizons too. For example, Michigan has never played LSU or Clemson nor played any of the Florida teams on the road in FL. Games against Georgia, Auburn, Texas, Arizona State, Arizona, USC in home-home series would great too for all fans. I'm pleased with UM recebntly scheduling Oklahoma, SMU and Washington for the future.
In the same way though I I find it a shame that Notre Dame avoided other Big Ten teams like Wisconsin (1964) and Iowa (1968), which have come on in strength since the early 1980s. There's also the issue of Ohio State - 250 miles away - against whom the Irish are 0-3 since 1960.
I agree with other commenters - the decision was a bad one for Notre Dame. We'll just have to wait until both parties course correct.

First meeting since Stalingrad (1943). Decisive Michigan win after dubious game start. Rick Leach. Joe Montana. Bo. Devine (most fitting name ever for Notre Dame football team head coach). And Michigan won the game passing: 3 TDs out of the fucking Maryland I formation or out of the wishbone. Don Nehlen was a freaking genius. Wacky ass shit. It was also a very good Irish team, that beat Purdue (3rd place Big ten), Michigan St. (1st place tie BIg ten), Pitt, and barely lost to USC by 2 pts. Michigan was 10-2 that year, beaten only by Sparty 15-24 and a blind line judge at the Rose Bowl.

|4 weeks 1 day ago||Agreed. Playing Navy @Navy will be a great game||
Navy has not lost there in a while (2012 vs. San Jose State that went 11-2). Will Ohio be overlooking this game with the pending home opener vs VaTech?
Navy went 9-4 last year and should have it's best team in years for 2014. A ton of players are returning, including QB Keenan Reynolds who is the kind of guy Urban Meyer would probably want at QB (31 TDs last year, Jesus Christ!). Reynolds is a Heisman Trophy candidate, he's that good. They are saying he's absolutely the best Navy QB since Roger Staubach.
Also, Navy's OL returns completely intact for 2014.
The defense will probably still be comparatively bad, but Navy should be an 11-1 team this year, and will be a nice early test for Ohio's supposed strength point: DL
Navy 35, Ohio 38
|4 weeks 1 day ago||So, what were the reasons for the OL problems last year?||
a. chronic personality disorder on offense? (Borges refused to stop tinkering and just go with something they could perfect over time).
b. bad chemisty among OL players? (Schofield, Lewan returned for senior year, but attitudes and performance of unit still sucked)
c. failure to coach up and improve OL unit during the year (D.Funk. A. Borges, B. Hoke)
d. Youth of the OL unit and of all interchangeable parts: Miller, Glasgow, Kalis, Braden, Bryant, Bars, Magnuson
I re-read this piece from last year. I consider it wise for others to do the same:
Michigan had one (and perhaps two) of the Big Ten's best offensive tackles and still finished 11th in the league in rushing.
Let's just get it over with! Bring on the "Annual Honorary Henry the Otter Preview of the 2014 Michigan Offensive Line®"!

Michigan gained something stupid like 7ypc the whole damn day, blowing Ohio DL defenders back like 10 yards on several plays.

I think people are individuals, not groups, and that the sooner we stop caring so damn much about people's sexual preferences, ice cream preferences, and automobile preferences, etc. maybe the sooner we can continue on with our lives and focus on far more important things, like understanding the probability that Michigan might run a 41 buck sweep counter out of the Delaware Wing-T on a 3rd an 8 inside the opponent red zone.

Michigan recruits a ton of 4 and 5 star OL over the last 3 years. Meanwhile teams like MSU, Iowa and Wisconsin - who are not recruiting anything remotely like that - wind up featuring far better OL play and running attacks than Michigan.
Then I pour myself some green tea and listen to my favorite David Cassidy song (I woke up in love this morning), reminding myself that UM has only 3 upper classmen on the OL for 2014 (one RS Sr, two RS Jr.), and that the Wolverines are probably still a year away from where they need to be in this dept. Agreed. Getting cleated can be extremely painful. When it really happens. When it really does happen, and not a toe over toe touch, you're not going to flail your arms back and do a belly flop on the turf from a foot/toe injury. No freaking way.
Somebody grazes the edge/tip of his raised toe and "OMG foul!".
Horseshit to the 11th power.
Meanwhile, real injury: Fractured tibia. Hector Moreno. No belly flopping. No flailing of the arms. His head and eyes directed to the injured appendage. Normal human behavior when injured. Because he's in legitimate freaking pain.

This was the last UM home game that was not sold out.
Why Michigan didn't pack that stadium for home games between 1969 and October 18, 1975 I still don't understand. Those were some of Michigan's finest days in college football.
This year October 18 is a Saturday, but an open date on Michigan's schedule.

I'm pretty sure that also a "human virtue" and not distinctly Prussian. By Prussian virtues, I meant the following list below.
That reminds me, I'm a punctual person, but I onced showed up late for work in Cologne by just 10 minutes because of traffic. The response from my colleague: "Amerikanische Punktlickheit" (american punctuality, i.e. late, not German). It's humorous when I reflect on it, but certainly not in their eyes. There's always healthy helping of true criticism in there meant to keep you in line.
- Aufrichtigkeit - sincerity or being 'upright'
|13 weeks 1 day ago||A former German colleague||
of mine once told shared with me his view that "Amerikaner haben keine Kultur" ("..Americans have no culture"). At first I thought he meant American culture is not homogenous, or that American culture is comparatively quite diverse. I was completely wrong. He really meant that Americans are culture-less, that the US is a society sans culture. I didn't feel like arguing with the guy at the time. I was young and wanted to remain politce. I just was amazed by his conviction on this point.
If you ever live in Germany, you quickly learn some important things. First, the long list of Prussian virtues, which help explain why Germans behave the way they do (including being straight-forward and direct, to a fault and often to the extent of being downright rude), and the fine centuries-old art of starring at other people excessively.

In my opinion, it's close to being the dumbest idea ever in college sports, right alongside the retiring of jersey numbers in the first place. Unless college football is going to expand jersey numbers out to 3 digits, it find it all kind of dumb.
I'm glad TB Mel Anthony wore No. 37, but I'm also very glad WR Jim Smith did too, And FB Bob Perriman after that. And LB Erick Anderson after that. And LB Jarrett Irons after that.
Each of these players were very special and made huge plays for the Michigan football team. They are all remembered for their contributions and their jersey numbers.
Anthony Carter, Greg McMurtry, David Alexander, Braylon Edwards were all spectactular too wearing No. 1 in their own way.
But what good are all these great numbers, if kids can't even play with them anymore? I think the practice kind of diminishes new players from making their own great story at Michigan, having to live in the shadow of prior giants. Screw that. Everyone knows past is important.....for purposes of tradition. But living off the past, or living in it are both ill advised.
Peppers getting No. 2 is really cool. I understand the choice.
In some ways, I wish he'd have picked little-used No. 39 or 38 or 46 at Michigan, to sort of say "screw it, I'm my own person, and I'll make my own damn legacy here, thank you".

Huckleby had to have been a top 10 running back that year out of Detroit Cass Tech.
In those days Michigan ran a meat-grinder run offense, which meant plenty of carries. Today not so much.

That would be an utterly terrifying addition to the Wolverines' roster. It's fun to dream.

Injured ankle. Won't play in World Cup 2014.
Doesn't help Germany's chances.

Michigan recruiting certainly seems to have strong momentum. Love the Shea Patterson offer and background story. Arizona has a lot of QB talent built up with Scroggins (USC transfer, 4-star), Solomon (4-star), Randall (LSU transfer, 4-star), McGee (2-star)and Brewer (4-star). I could be wrong, but with Morris (5-star), Speight (3 -star) and Malzone (4 star) next year, Michigan seems to have a lot more roster space and opportunity at the QB position than the Arizona Wildcats will have.

Earlier I was just thinking about the unthinkable scenario where Brazil gets shocked by silly defeats to Croatia, Mexico and all hell breaks loose in the country.
Welp, have a great time! :)

My wishlist would be to add in other a home blue jersey for 1976-1980 with the "2" numeral font that looks like this below. This font was prevalent during that time:
A 22, 32 and 33 jersey number, no name on back panel, crew neck, would be kick ass.

I must have missed this.
Regardless, more and more this David Brandon character is coming off as a certifiable, future-creating douchebag.
If come September 2014, those Michigan Stadium blimp shots are in any way embarrassing, then Brandon alone deserves 100% of the blame.

Definitely runs upright and strong. The thing that surprised me is his 6th gear separation. The kid sure can move at 6'2.

That was a very nice thing for that H.S. girl to want to do. It is not commonplace. The reality is that there are a lot of mean kids and rather clueless parents out there.
I hope some nice person like that might ask, or accept, my autistic son to the prom in a few years. He really likes to dance.
|15 weeks 1 day ago||Important question though.....||
Can we have nice things?
|15 weeks 1 day ago||Actually||
all of Michigan's football (and basketball) jersey numbers, including the previously non-retired, were already legacies. That's the outcome of Michigan having a lot of wins.
The players, they don't need no stinkin' badges.

|15 weeks 1 day ago||There's also the Braxton Miller health issue||
Ohio will have best DL in the BIG10 this fall, but the OL has holes. Can Miller survive a new OL and the season uninjured? Ohio has (3-star, No. 24 QB) Cardale "Why should we have to go to class" Jones and (4-star, No. 13) QB JT Barrett as backups at QB.
Michigan doesn't have a proven OL either, but it's not like Ohio doesn't have questions.

But obviously a major rival (like Ohio, MSU, ND) is going to use a very different perspective and version of events to portray basically all you've written above as a bunch of "lame excuses" for not performing to standard.
Urban Meyer doesn't have to negative recruit at all. Looking at the state of Michigan football from Ohio's perspective, there's glee in throwing salt at the wounds of a debilitated enemy, especially when things will likely not be so easy going forward. Urban leaves this out conveniently in his schtick. The truth is that Michigan's number are building back up, and Ohio's days of easily and decisively beating Michigan are probably over, because the talent gap is no longer there.
But Ohio lackeys will love just about anything Urban Meyer says. "On the fence" emotionally-tied recruits will be persuaded by this "ohio show", but more deliberate and rational thinking prospects probably less so.
Despite all the press negativity and "OMG is Hoke on the hot seat?", Michigan is recruiting remarkably well. At the end of the day, the two teams still have to play 12 games of football including each other in Columbus in November. No amount of trash talk is going to beat Michigan.
|15 weeks 4 days ago||How is it possible that David Brandon||
just doesn't get how these strategic moves are pissing off UofM students, alumni and fans?
Even from a stone-cold, black-hearted, EBITA-driven business perspective, why would one deduce that you can gouge and alienate loyal, paying customers from the Don Canham days?
This is dumb Dave.
