Closest I could find was this this 6 yard run to set up the first down.  Corum scores in a 29 yard rush on the next play, to put Michigan up 26-22 in the 4th quarter against Nebraska.  Michigan goes on to win 32-29.   If McCarthy doesn't pick up that first down, does Michigan go on to win?  We'll never know.

I mean, you could just take…

I mean, you could just take a peak at the stats and see that Blake Corum averaged 4.7 yards per carry, Donavan Edwards averaged 3.5 yards per carry, and Kalel Mullings averaged 6.1 yards per carry this season, and be a little bit tempted into wondering what he could do when shouldering a bit more of the load?

Last year, when the line was opening bigger holes, Donavan was carving up defenses, at a rate of 7.1 yards per carry, but it has been tough sledding this year, and Kalel has done an amazing job of consistently generating yards

from the Victors Board: Stapleton Issues Statement. Posted on October 26, 2023 at 01:56:19 PM by Skyblue Subsequent to speaking with the NCAA and its Vice President of Hearing Operations, Derrick Crawford ([email protected]) who stands ready to confirm the Association’s...Guidelines concerning the recusal/conflict procedures they follow for appointed members to its Committee on Infractions (COI) and, to also clarify the status of recent allegations surrounding the Michigan Football Program (and the fact they are presently not under the Committee’s purview) this represents my statement on the matter as it relates to recent reports on my involvement. The explanations have become necessary as a result of claims made by John Bacon (Bacon) an Ann Arbor based “writer” concerning my alleged involvement in not only this latest issue but also uninformed, ignorant statements he has made previously about my involvement in the case the COI is continuing to examine with respect to allegations of Covid period recruiting violations. My late, great father once told me “never get into an argument with someone who has no idea what they are talking about because, if someone is watching or reading, they may not be able to tell which one of you is the fool.” I have always tried to follow that advice and, it’s been particularly helpful when dealing with Bacon and his multiple misrepresentations about me over the years. Yet, in this case, he has taken the definition of “yellow journalism” to an entirely different level. This will be my only comment on the matter. But, it won’t be the last time Bacon deals with the scurrilous nature of his latest actions because he will soon hear from my lawyer.“

Hopefully, this works.  Ive often had services, like Youtube TV, still use geolocation to block after youve subscribed.

The next level atter that is to use a mock gps plugin, and set it to a random neihhborhood in Ann Arbor. I had to download Firefox the last time I ran into this to make it qork.

Also, when signing up with a credit card, you need to substitute alphabetic characters with 0s.  (A1B 2C3 becomes 01020)  this also works at US gas pumps that, for some reason, require a zip code.

Thank you so much for posting this!  I posted an impassioned play last to find this link after failing to bookmark this the first time.

As a Canadian, I've used a von and fake GPS to pay for ESPN Player (short-lived European service), Fubo TV and Youtube TV in different seasons.  Found no way to watch a game om FS1 year, despite being 100/% willing to pay.

Its often hard to subscribe to a US servixe as an interntional, even if 100% willing to pay.

A few years ago, reddit steams made finding a spotty stream somewhat tolerable.  Now, I can download 50 popups and viruses for every stream that lasts more than a quarter.

Question: a while back mgoarchive posted a new site for content this year, and I failed to bookmark it.  I didnt want to create a brand new thread for a simple question.  Does anyone have the link?

I live in Canada, and there is no legal way to get Peacock.  I've used VPNs and mock GPS to sign up and pay for YouTube TV, Fubo and ESPN Player (a defunct European service) in previous years. Happy to pay for content if I can, amd hate when a game ends up on FS1, or something, and there is actually no legal way to watch the game in our country.

My plan for my 50th birthday is a trip to Austin to see Michigan play Texas in 2027.  I hope that game remains on the schedule with all of the realignment nonsense.  I'll make sure to add a visit to Cork and Barrel to my vacation.

2nd attempt generated a negative number -

Number of teams that avoid playing either Team A or Team B = Total number of teams - Number of teams playing either Team A or Team B Number of teams that avoid playing either Team A or Team B = 14 - (5005 + 2002) = 14 - 7007 = -6993

It seems there's an issue in the calculation, as the result is a negative value. This suggests that it's not possible for all the remaining 14 teams to avoid playing either Team A or Team B while still maintaining the constraint of 9 games for each team and no team playing each other twice.

3rd attempt generated 2809.

Average number of teams avoiding Team A or Team B = 0.001121 * (5005 * 5005) ≈ 2809.93

ChatGPT is drunk.

From what I can gather, at a simple level, the average team has C(15,9), or 5005, distinct schedules available.  There are C(13,9), or 705, schedules available where they avoid both Michigan and OSU.  That leaves a ~14.2% chance of avoiding both.  There are 14 teams besides Michigan and OSU, each with a 14.2% chance of avoiding both.  That averages out to 1.96 teams.  So, 2 teams, on average, each year will avoid both.  That seems more reasonable.  Much less likely they will end up going 8-1/9-0.    Sorry for the long chain of nonsense posts from ChatGPT.

Question: Let there be a set of 16 distinct opponents. Included in the group of 16 teams are two special opopnents, Team A and Team B. Given a random schedule of 9 games, where no team can play each other twice, on average, how many of teams of the teams, excluding Team A or B, will avoid playing either team A or Team B?

Answer:

To calculate the average number of teams, excluding Team A or Team B, that will avoid playing either Team A or Team B in a random schedule of 9 games, we'll consider the probabilities of different scenarios.

Let's assume that the schedule is generated randomly, and each of the 16 teams (including Team A and Team B) has an equal chance of being selected for each game.

There are a total of 16 teams, and we have already accounted for 2 teams (Team A and Team B). So, the number of remaining teams is 16 - 2 = 14.

Now, we need to calculate the probability that a randomly chosen team from the remaining 14 teams avoids playing either Team A or Team B in a single game.

The probability that a randomly chosen team avoids playing Team A or Team B in one game is the number of ways it can be scheduled to play against the remaining 14 - 2 = 12 teams (excluding Team A and Team B) divided by the total number of remaining opponents.

Probability of avoiding Team A or Team B in one game = Number of ways to schedule against the remaining 12 teams / Total number of remaining opponents

The number of ways to schedule against the remaining 12 teams is simply 12 because each team can only play one game against the chosen opponent.

So, the probability of avoiding Team A or Team B in one game is:

Probability of avoiding Team A or Team B in one game = 12 / 14 = 6 / 7 ≈ 0.8571

Now, since each game is independently scheduled, the probability of avoiding Team A or Team B in all 9 games is the product of the individual probabilities for each game:

Probability of avoiding Team A or Team B in all 9 games = (6 / 7)^9 ≈ 0.2989

Now, the average number of teams that will avoid playing either Team A or Team B can be calculated as follows:

Average number of teams = Total number of remaining teams * Probability of avoiding Team A or Team B in all 9 games

Average number of teams = 14 * 0.2989 ≈ 4.183

Therefore, on average, approximately 4.183 teams (excluding Team A or Team B) will avoid playing either Team A or Team B in a random schedule of 9 games. Since we cannot have a fraction of a team, the actual number of teams that will avoid playing either Team A or Team B will be 4 or 5, depending on the randomness of the schedule.

Was curious how likely it…

Was curious how likely it was for a team to avoid playing both Michigan and Ohio State.  This doesn't take protected rivalries into account, so not 100% accurate.  It's been 25 years since I took finite, so I couldn't quite math it.  ChatGPT to the rescue.

An average season will have 4 teams avoid playing either Michigan / Ohio State, which was more than I expected.  Each of those will likely end up playing USC, Penn State or both.  I guess you're probably right - given that info, it feels someone will MSU or Iowa there way to an 8-1 schedule playing no one at least once every 2-3 years.

---

Agreed.  Seems like there may be more NCAA basketball players in the Big Ten than NCAA football players.  Canadian rules tend to result in different player shapes for the same positions, but there has to be a lot of untapped talent.  Scouting may be difficult, although Michigan does tend to do a good job identifying and evaluating talent in states where the talent level isn't as high.  Would love to see more Canadians on the team.

Two point conversion rate is 41%, I believe. If it was >50%, game theory would say that everyone should go for 2 every single time.

It's not a straightforward 3.1 points on that play.  It's the % chance of scoring on the next play x 6 + the % chance of hitting the extra point + the knock-on effects of having your opponent start on the 1 yard line if you do not (compared to starting at 25 after a kickoff).  If we assume 41%, that's 2.46 + 0.96 + xx.  Going for it seems like a no brainer.

I thought Syracuse was going to pull off the upset against Clemson earlier this year - that was until Etienne had consecutive carries of 17 yards and 26 yards for one TD, and then started the next drive with another 14 yard carry.  Syracuse had Clemson down to a 4th and 6 with 2:38 to go, but couldn't hold on.  Of course, Trevor Lawrence missed much of that game.

I don't think 'Cuse has what it takes, but I would love to see the upset.  I would also love to see Kentucky go down against Middle Tennessee or  Texas A&M go down to UAB.

Anyone else tired of seeing this ridiculous meat shirt advertisement on mgoblog?  I've informed Google that I do not wish to see this ad at least 50 times, but they really must believe I'll eventually change my mind and purchase it...

For crying out loud.  How many FS1 games can we have in one season?  Last year, it felt like most of the games were on ABC.  Now the team is top 4 in the country, and almost every game is on a janky network.

There is no legal way to watch FS1 in Canada.  The advent of the PVR has allowed me to watch every minute of Michigan football this year, without causing undue family over disappearing for half the day to watch a stream that will probably cut out and stutter for at least 20 minutes of the game.

Never mind the fact that BTN, Fox and FS1 have no respect for their viewers, or those at the game, with their endless parade of commercials.  Screw you Delaney! ( Or whoever was responsible for the Fox contract this year)

I still maintain the interception Rutger is in play.  In 2016, Michigan held Rutgers to 2 receptions and 5 total yards receiving. Michigan has held their last 3 (ranked) opponents, Penn State, Michigan State and Wisconsin to 8, 7 and 7 receptions, respectively.

In 2018, Rutgers threw 5 interceptions to Maryland, and had only 2 completions.  Rutgers will suffer many, many sacks and TFL. It is possible that Rutgers will not complete a pass for the entire game.

Michigan may finish the game with more interceptions than Rutgers has total yards of offence.

Rutgers just had one of the worst passing games of all time

NC State was the pick that stuck out like a sore thumb as soon as the rankings were announced.  I glanced at their schedule and saw that they had wins over James Madison, Georgia State, Marshall, Virginia, a terrible Florida State and Boston College, with losses to Syracuse and Clemson.  How did anyone in the world equate that to being the #14 team in the country?   Am I taking crazy pills? Northwestern and Purdue both have better wins than that, and neither of those teams deserve to be anywhere near the top 15.

Here are the S&P+ wins and losses for NC State:

Wins:

#38 Boston College
#49 Marshall
#55 Virginia
#75 FSU
#118 Georgia State
FCS James Madison

Lost to:

# 2 Clemson
#58 Syracuse
#87 Wake Forest

It doesn't quite seem possible, but somehow, when you look back at the 2016 boxscore, Michigan held Rutgers to 2 completions and 5 total yards passing on 18 attempts.

I don't see that happening again, but if it does, 5 interceptions is not completely out of the realm of possibility?

Perhaps interceptions or sacks > rushing yards is more likely, given the number of sacks and TFLs the defense will generate.
