There are plenty of coaches in each sport that are fantastic individual skill training guys but are out of their depth leading a program, head coaching, etc.
Juwan may be one of those guys that is simply better at individual skill training but not a great program guy.
Maybe he thought his passion for teaching individual skills could translate to leading a program. He was wrong.
But he can still teach the game, just not from a team perspective. So a really good assistant perhaps, until he learns the machinations of leading a program.
And don't forget, second half adjustments forthcoming! Juwan has tried to have Dug deny Tomi the ball, but then most of the time they have nobody on the ball when Tomi has it. Who knew?
Just checking in and 28 comments at the half has to be a record of futility and apathy.
If it wasn't for Dug getting his homework done and hitting all those threes, this could have been over at the half. As it stands, Nebraska doing whatever they want, and Juwan is doing his best Izzo on the floor playing defense impression.
To be fair to Juwan, his roster is probably a mid-major at best. His laughable response about the game previously regarding why Tray Jackson didn't play much because Twill & Jace were sharing time at the 3 is one reason he shouldn't put a roster together.
Tray Jackson, (I know I've said it before) is light years better than both of them. Last night, at least he played Jackson along side of Williams. Twill has grit but can't create anything- he's been put in a bad spot as he should be a guy off the bench on a decent team.
But he is the most efficient dude Michigan has. Maybe they can be relegated like European soccer teams to a different conference for hoops.
Not a huge Tschetter guy but he scored 7 pts in 11 mins and Tray Jackson (probably the best athlete M has) played 4 mins, scored 5 pts. Maybe Tray was getting eased back in but Howard's rotations have always been perplexing.
Those heavy minutes were exacerbated when M needed stops but kept Reed, Twill, Dug on the floor instead of doing defense for offense.
Just for fun, for athleticism and defense play
Jackson, Barnett, Howard (I think he isn't a D1 guy, but he hustles and every team needs that), Olivier, ? and run every opportunity
Second group can be Tschetter, Reed, Williams, Llewelyn, ? and instead of playing the same 5 guys getting the same second half results, maybe something is sparked
Not to drag down T-Will, but if the leading scorer is going to be him for a few more games, then this team is, well, not very good. T-Will is a complementary piece that should get 10-15 mins a game. Probably like most of the players on this team
My sons and I watched the last two games together with our wives. They are 27 & 25, both with baby sons (who wore the M gear too) while we were decked out in our strategic M gear. Oldest son wore something different from last week so the game would be "cleaner". The place where I am is when Andy Dufrense escaped from the sewer line and found himself 500 yards from his cell, hands wide in the air, and sweet rain falling on his freedom. Ahhh, finally. Simple sports joy.
I was at the "trouble with the snap" game, (and heard the best line about that game on radio- "It feels like I've been jail-sexed by a bunch of angry woodpeckers"), have been a fan since Gordy Bell & Rick Leach played the Selmon brothers in the Orange Bowl. This has been the best three year run I've ever watched from the football program. I could have never gotten into Michigan, but I was born in Ann Arbor and Maize & Blue is in my blood, and in my son's, wife, and now grandsons.
Brian wrote so many cathartic pieces during the wandering, and it resonated so much during that time. I found the blog in 09(?) during the RichRod times and it has been a must read weekly.
That said, this is pretty amazing from a sports perspective.
The plan for M hoops utterly stinking is going gloriously for M football. Continue this at least until next week. That is the deal - M hoops biffing so M football can win it all.
As has been the case for every bowl game eve, BPONE is present but I'm hopeful this year is the year Harbs & the team break through. So, I'm going with a 27-21 win for the good guys.
EDIT: MVP you ask? Mikey of course. With Corum a close 2nd.
I think Florida missed 10+ free throws and about the same number of layups. Once sequence saw them blow three straight 2 on1 fast breaks (or a clear man advantage), so maybe that made 3 at the end of the first half evens things out a bit on the unlucky side.
I thought it was somewhat laughable that the camera caught Juwan at the end of regulation saying to someone at the coaching area of the bench, "Call a timeout. F*&#!"

His defense was pressure at the top and then he would inevitably say "help". His effort on defense lasted about 3 seconds.
Well written and endorsed. The team was never fun to watch.
But at least Jace got to play the final 8 minutes. Had to be a rewarding experience for Juwan to watch that
🤷🏻♂️
Juwan is giving a big eff to everyone playing a D3 kid - his son the final 8 mins.
Malpractice
Llewellyn deserved better
I think he’s playing Jace the final minutes bc he’s knows he’s gone and before Jace goes and plays at Albion
Burnett hitting three 3’s from his slow set shot position seems to be the only highlight
Unless there are some great adjustments, this is quite the statement game for the shape of this program.
Gradually creeping up the 4 min per points
First 4 : 3 pts
Second 4: 4 pts
Third 4: ?

Michigan's last 11 possessions before subs came in:
1 made FG, 4 made FT's.
Superb
That drive by Tomi captures Michigan's defense under Juwan perfectly. Particularly since they spent all week shoring up those deficiencies
And don't forget, second half adjustments forthcoming! Juwan has tried to have Dug deny Tomi the ball, but then most of the time they have nobody on the ball when Tomi has it. Who knew?
Nebraska motion and screen game is top notch

"You're Welcome" to Hubert & Brad
-Juwan
Although it has been said many times, many ways, this comment is enough. The rest will take care of itself.
The keys to the game: strategic timeout for Juwan at 1:30 left in game down 20.
He actually had the guys press coming out of the time out… down 20…with a 1:30 left.
The last time they came out of a timeout, they immediately turned it over so this was something different I guess
Gotta love the timeout call with 1:30 left and then set up full court pressure down 20. The sense of urgency passed by a few minutes before
Good gravy
How does a D1 team, let alone a HS team, not understand help defense , see ball. 4 D1 coaches and it appears as if they’ve NEVER covered help D
Just “stay in front of your man”
Good concept. “This s***t works”
Team defense sucks so bad. No help , don’t see ball, and just wow
He had verticality. You can’t displace a dude who is straight up. It’s still his space
Reed has gotten away with two offensive fouls in the first four mins of this half.
Arguably, they’re more active offensively
The ball movement dies when it gets to T will. And he’s a bad ball defender as well. Well, most of them are anyway
Lol. Dug awesome with 4 terrible turnovers. One arm bandit. Keep doing you Dug
Talk smack about those careless turnovers, Dug
Lol. Bottom feeder team talking smack.
Dugs effort on defense is terrible.
-Juwan…
-Juwan Howard

So Jace and Twill preclude Jackson from getting on the floor. Best athlete they have can’t get minutes bc two mid level D1 guys
And the NFC North suddenly looks like the toughest division in NFC

Just absolutely horrible coaching
Defense for offense each series? Yeesh
Gassed players bc the bench gets short - 3 guys on the floor right now that can’t play D
Most can’t score.
Twill grabbed his crotch running down the court staring at the OSU bench last week after making a 3. Does that count?
Terrence vs athletes is comical
For the good of the program, maybe Juwan and the staff should stay with Dug
Right there with you. Like watching slow motion wrecks.

My goodness this game should be over.
bad play calling and bad JJ means a ballgame.
It's really difficult to get frustrated when we know this is for the football team. So continue to suck!

Good Job, Juwan and team
Bama fans probably bought tickets for next week, and will watch tomorrow on TV
Michigan covers, winning 27-21
Texas beats Washington in a game harking back to the old Big 12 days where defense was an option, but rarely used. Texas 49-45

What you see a team do is what is coached to do, more times than not.
A wise coach once said, "What you see is what you coach" - Wise Coach

Hey that sounds like a HC job to me.
