We're about 6 or 7 wins worse than were last year, need to add a good hitting 3B/LF at the least.
|13 weeks 2 days ago||Improved it from where it was||
Improved it from where it was earlier today? Yeah.
Is it improved from the same bullpen that imploded during the postseason?
The issue was not closing, Benoit was terrific last year, and it is highly unlikely Nathan will outperform what Benoit provided.
We need more depth, so it is still necessary to add another arm or two to help solidify the middle relief.

"If Dombrowski could have gotten more, he would have."
DD could have gotten more, that is a simple fact.
From a Keith Law article...
"I've spoken to numerous team executives who were shocked at the return for Fister and wish they had been given the opportunity to offer more or to try to assemble a multi-team deal that would give the Tigers the specific pieces they wanted. One contending team's GM, known to be looking for another starter, told me he hadn't talked to the Tigers about Fister in weeks. Another exec with a contender indicated something similar. "
So let's get the notion that maybe that's all the value that Fister could have gotten back in a trade out of here now, but it's simply not true. He had far more value than a loogy (who has little to no value), a crappy utility player (who literally has no value) and a decent prospect, who is outside of every publications top 100. It's evident that DD values Ray far more than everyone else, and that's where the disconnect lies.

DD has made bad trades before.

Castellanos value is tied to his bat. Not sure who you're talking to, but they clearly are clueless. Castellanos was rated so highly at the draft because of his bat, he's valued as a top prospect because of his bat. He projects well as a hitter, unfortunately his defense projects poorly.
|15 weeks 1 day ago||Nobody who has ever seen||
Nobody who has ever seen Castellanos at 3B would consider comparing him to Iglesias defensively.
Here's a quote from an insider on another baord I post on in regards to Castellanos:
"Castellanos was considered a below-average defender at third base prior to his move to the outfield. There were a host of scouts, including myself, who questioned his long term potential at third base and projected him as a fringy defender there, at best. In all honesty, he would have been lucky to develop Miguel Cabrera's present ability at third base; and without the offensive potential of Cabrera, I'm not sure that's sufficient. To date, in all my conversations, I've not heard any discussion of Castellanos moving back to third base, or even the potential for considering such a move. He's an outfielder and barring a drastic shift in organizational philosophy with respect to Castellanos' development, he's going to remain an outfielder long term."
He projects to be below average at best defensively, with the liklihood being greater that his defense is too bad at the position for his offense to outweigh it.
His move to the OF demonstrates that. You simply don't move players down the defensive spectrum in the minor leagues if you think they are capable of playing that position in the MLs.
|15 weeks 1 day ago||Castellanos is not a natural||
Castellanos is not a natural 3rd baseman.
He didn't play 3B until he was drafted, and that's because he obviously wasn't gonna stay at SS where he played in HS.
He projects poorly defensively at 3B.
|15 weeks 1 day ago||Castellanos to 3rd isn't an option||
He's worse defensively than Cabrera, they'd just keep Cabrera there.

When you are given an academic scholarship, do you not have to meet minimum requirements to continue receiving that scholarship?
Why whould it be any different for a football scholarship? If the player doesn't perform well enough, he didn't do his part to earn the scholarship, just as if somebody on an academic scholarship comes in and fails half his classes, they will rightfully lose their scholarship.

Seriously, Gibson is awful, if he never played for the Tigers nobody would be calling for him.
He still believe grit is important lol.

I'd like a manager that acknowledges the importance of OBP.
|19 weeks 4 days ago||Worst logic ever? A managers||
Worst logic ever?
A managers impact is minimal, Leyland gets no credit for the Tigers recent success.
He also gets no blame for their postseason failures.
Truth is, DD has built a very good, but not great team. The expectation should never have been WS or bust, the Tigers aren't close to being a good enough team for that to matter.
They have a lot going for them, a historically dominant starting rotation and the best hitter in the game. But they also have many flaws, aun unbalanced lineup, a bad defensive team, a poor bullpen, and horrid baserunning. All those flaws were exposed in the playoffs again, which is why they lost.
I'd rather see DD go then Leyland and I don't like Leyland because he's a poor in game strategist, but he has done a good job managing the clubhouse, and his impact on a game is mostly nonexistent, so whatever.
DD has been able to build a great foundation, but he's been absolutely horrible at filling out the back end of a roster, and his horrible drafting has left us a barren farm system.

Yes, it can be said about baseball as well.
That's mostly because PEDs don't really impact a players performance in baseball.
The only people who actually think taking PEDs help improve performance are simply ignorant.

My point was more about how Braxton Miller isn't really that special.
I don't think he'll get invited, but that's not what my Denard comparison was about.
