My kids are figuring out what they are getting for Christmas from the banner ads. I have to start doing some fake online Christmas shopping to throw them off the scent.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||I don't know||
I don't know Brady Hoke as a person, only as a media figure. Maybe he is the guy that could go in after being fired, say nice things and not be bitter about losing his job. I think any organization would really be hesitant about bringing a recently fired employee back to give speeches about other people - it will be awkward, uncomfortable and you never know who is going to go nuts and say things totally inappropriate. I think even if he isn't fired by then it will be awkward and uncomfortable.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Wondering about this||
I have been wondering about this as well. On the one hand, you don't want to let him hand around and get a public forum for an impassioned plea to stay, but on the other hand, don't you want someone who knows the kids and can say something nice about them? It's not like you can fire him and say, "Come to the bust anyway and speak nicely about the kids, but don't say anything about being fired." I imagine that right now, Hackett and Hoke are working out the details of his departure and it will be very much like DB's departure, in that Hackett will say, "Brady and I have talked and he came to the conclusion it's better for the team if he leaves." When this will happen, I don't know.
|4 weeks 1 day ago||Craig's List||
You can always go the Craig's List route or, if you know someone who wants to buy, you can do an online ticket transfer. That's what we do when we can't use our tickets. Any cash that gets exchanged behind the scenes is unknown to the AD. The big problem is that during the RR years, the Club Seats could be on Stub Hub and the last few games, the Club was totally overrun by opposing fans. This was not very nice. So it's still possible to sell them, just more difficult.

|5 weeks 2 days ago||Some stuff at Pioneer parking lot?||
Haven't they done some things at the Pioneer parking lot in the past few years? I have been parking on the other side of the stadium, so I haven't been over there in a while.
|5 weeks 2 days ago||I think||
it's really cool that they are letting people on the field. At the 1 mile fun run before the Big House Big Heart 5K, they wouldn't even let the parents of the kids on the field to get their kids. We tried to get on the field to grab them, so they wouldn't be lost at the event and we were told NO ONE can be on the field. So this is a nice change.
|5 weeks 2 days ago||Not much snow||

|6 weeks 5 days ago||Maybe||
They should fire Hoke and make him take the Mega bus home.
|10 weeks 1 day ago||They can't see the forest for the trees.||
It would drive me crazy when guys would say to me and my friends "There are no good looking women here". I would be like, "We're right here, dumb ass!" I think because we choose to not dress in a trashy fashion, it is hard to see the prettiness that really is there (for real, not just on the inside, on the outside, too). It was kind of rough on the self esteem for a while, then you realize those guys are losers.
|10 weeks 1 day ago||Thanks for saying that.||
I really wanted to say something but didnt' want to come off as a harpy. I went to U of M for grad school and an engineering school for undergrad. Men at both places were always ripping on us for not being pretty enough. It drove me crazy! I'm not into make up or fashion, but I like football and Star Trek and I can kick your ass in math! I will also add that some very hot men are also total mimbos and it would drive me crazy trying to talk to them about "GTL".

|10 weeks 4 days ago||I counted||
I did the count every play. They had 11 every time. It felt ridiculous that I had to do that to make myself feel better.
|10 weeks 4 days ago||For me,||
For me, it's an issue of bedtimes for my kids. When it is a night game, my young kids can not stay up until the end of the game without being extremely grumpy, which means that none of us have a good time. So, I have to get a sitter that doesn't mind missing the game. For 3:30 games, we can get errands done, soccer games done, kids can come to the game and enjoy it and we all get home before we turn into exhausted monsters. Now in a few years, when they are older, we won't mind, but it will be an issue for other families. For A2, though, I think it is great for business. I was downtown yesterday for some kids stuff and it was packed with people wearing game gear. Blimpy Burger had a huge line and stores were crowded, so I would think the town would support it. Maybe not the direct neighbors of the stadium.
|12 weeks 2 days ago||Whoa there, Mat||
You wouldn't want to put the cart before the horse and close the barn door after the horse got out, especially if you close that door on the cat with nine lives (who got out of the bag) and you certainly can't let that fox into that henhouse, even if you are stuck between it and a rock. Now, let me tell you how I have to walk uphill both ways to from that barn to the henhouse and how there's 3 feet of snow, because, back when I was your age, that's what I had to do. Both ways! Up hill!

I was so happy about beating App State, I had to "go crazy" and get it. Surprisingly, my boys wanted the yellow jello first rather than the blue. We made it on Monday and it turned out really good - I was surprised that they didn't fall apart when we de-molded them.

We were commenting after the game that it has been a long time since we have won that handily. At no point did I feel like our lead would totally disappear. Only 1 int and 1 sack, not bad. I feel like we really upgraded on O. DG looked more confident.
|17 weeks 1 day ago||We have taken our kids||
since about age 2. We talked to someone on Hoover, right behind the stadium and reserved a spot for the whole season. We would arrive about 15 min before kick off and make it to our seats just in time. We buy them lots of food to keep them happy. We walk and run around a lot. One child even sat on my lap and slept through 1/2 of a game (it was naptime). We generally missed a lot of the action and would leave sometime in the 3rd quarter. Now that they are older, we can come a little earlier and leave at the end of the game. We still need to pump them full of food and drink, but now they enjoy the game! I also second the call for ear protection.
|17 weeks 1 day ago||I'm surprised||
That they gave you such a late delivery date. When some of my tickets sell, I get an email telling me that if I don't type the bar codes in within 24 hours of the sale, I will forfeit the sale. Hmmm...
|17 weeks 2 days ago||This comes down||
To how the seller chooses to list the tickets. Sometimes when I am posting my tickets for sale, I don't feel like sitting down right then and typing in all the bar codes. When they sell, I get an email and type in bar codes then. I often list multiple games at a time and I'm too lazy to type in 10-20 bar codes at once.
|17 weeks 3 days ago||It's possible||
My family buys all of our tickets together and we have 8 together. I usually sell them in pairs or 4s, but I have sold all 8 together before. I wish I could help you, but we're actually all going together this weekend! Try StubHub, I think waiting until game day is too dicey for that many people. Also, you could try Craigslist.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Well...||
They would have to sell brownies and Cheetos, then, too. Can you just see "Michigan Marching Band Halftime Show brought to you by Cheetos"?
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Minnesota and Purdue||
sell beer at games, so it can't be determined by the B1G. I thought in Michigan, it was a state law about alcohol on campus/in the stadium. The state legislature had to pass legislation to allow alcohol for hockey and soccer.
|18 weeks 1 day ago||At Women's Football Academy||
Nussmeier talked a lot about tempo. He doesn't believe that up tempo (like Indiana) is necessarily the key to success. He pointed out that if you look at the fastest teams in the country, sure there are some top teams on that list, but there are also some bottom teams as well. That being said, it did sound like he wanted to go faster than last year and definitely avoid delay of game issues as well as other offensive penalties.
|18 weeks 2 days ago||Yea!||

Lillyhammer is a good Netflix series. Steven Van Zandt plays a mobster relocated to Lillehammer, Norway under witness protection. Very funny. Remember to turn on the subtitles, it's half in Norwegian.
I like Zombie novels. I'm reading "The Girl with all the Gifts" right now and it's pretty good.

I think that's a pretty big statement about the past.... I don't know how to block quote, sorry.
|19 weeks 6 days ago||Which game and how are you coming?||
Are you taking 94 or 96? If you are taking 96, you can take 23 to get to A2 and get off at the north side of town (Plymouth or Geddes). You can easily get to 5th and shoot right through town. We like to park at Fingerle - only 1/2 a mile to the stadium, easy out. Easy to get back to Plymouth or Geddes via Division.
What game are you looking for? I have extra tickets to some games. Email me: email@example.com
|21 weeks 3 days ago||Fingerle||
I find Fingerle to be very convenient and easy access to the east side of town via Division and it avoids a lot of traffic getting in and out.

in 2013, DG was speaking to the group and he stated what a hard time he had in leading the players off the field. Specifically, he said on game days, when a captain would be pumping up the other guys, DG usually likes to be by himself, listening to music, "getting into the zone". He has had a hard time being the guy who gets out there and pumps up the other guys, it's not his natural "thing".
|25 weeks 6 days ago||Silver Lake Sand Dunes||
Not really weird, but you can rent dune buggies and go riding on the dunes. It's awesome! We have taken our kids on this since they were 2 and 4. They just strap a car seat in the buggy. Super fun and super messy (sand everywhere). Also, the Whippy Dip right by Silver Lake Sand Dunes is a great place to catch sunset.
|26 weeks 6 days ago||Oops....||
I went and re-read it and you're right. Not too shabby. I wonder what the other new benefits will be (it said new benefits would be rolled out closer to the season).
|26 weeks 6 days ago||Interesting||
We have season tix and my husband filled out the end of season survey and gave hockey a scathing review. Asked if the tickets were worth the money he answered NO, asked if he would recommend tix to friends and he answered NO. He filled in the open comments with his overall disappointment with the quality of hockey and the hockey experience. We do enjoy hockey, we have good seats, but they are really expensive, especially since the seasons have been disappointing. We kept them this year to help our priority points. It will be nice not to pay as much. Too bad the concession discount is only for new season ticket holders.
|27 weeks 3 days ago||At Women's Football Academy||
in 2013 DG said he had a lot of trouble being a leader, especially on game days because he often likes to have some quiet introspection before games. He found he was needing to be more "out there" and verbally supportive of his teammates and he found that difficult. Hopefully last season gave him more experience and he's better at it now.
|27 weeks 3 days ago||He's very jacked||
Much bigger than you would think. Not as tall as the O line guys, but very wide.
|28 weeks 2 days ago||I feel like||
I feel like we never got this level of detailed analysis or amount of enthusiasm out of Borges. I know that may not make a difference in the long run, but I hope that enthusiasm catches on in the locker room. He spent a long time talking about how it is better to hold on to the ball and not get an INT and how it is really hard to impress this on the QBs. Hopefully it is sinking in with DG. I think having an actual QB as the QB coach will really help our QBs because he's "been there".
|28 weeks 3 days ago||I was surprised, too.||
I thought that I would have read something here about an additional official on the field. Interestingly, not every conference will have the 8th official, but Big Ten is one that will. I will be curious to see how if it changes the amount of penalties called.

|34 weeks 3 days ago||I want replays||
I know that I like having replays and so does my family. I am short, so sometimes I miss what happened and they don't replay everything in the staduim. We had a fan vision, but they stopped supporting it last season. It was great, you could get replays, stats, great plays from other games.
So, I guess DB is doing this for me.
|37 weeks 4 days ago||I did it||
My kids did the 1 mile and my husband and I did the 5 K. It was a little weird that the fun run was right before the 5 K - my kids didn't want to run alone, so my husband ran with them. He was already tired when we then went from the Big House over to State Street where it started. They definitely need to sort by speed or walking. It is so irritating to have a group of walkers 3-4 across in the middle of the road. Were they playing the Victors in the tunnel? I don't remember. They did in the past. Also irritating - you can't go on the field to get your child after the fun run. If my kids had run by themselves, they would have been a little overwhelmed looking for us somewhere in the distance.

I suppose you could follow him on twitter if you don't want to go to mlive.

There was an article today about snow amounts. A2 is almost up to the entire winter average snowfall and so are several other cities. But the UP is down from usual. Here is the article:

different week. Stupid polar vortex. It happened Jan 6-8. My kids had 3 days off school due to snow (Jan 6) and cold (Jan 7,8) on the first days they were supposed to be back at school. Longest winter break ever.
|47 weeks 3 days ago||College snow days||
When I was at Case in the early 90s we had a huge snowstorm on a Monday. Not very unusual as Cleveland is in the lake effect snow belt. What was great was that someone hacked into the TV and radio stations systems and declared a snow day. So as we were all listening to the radio in the morning hearing all the school districts that were cancelled, we heard our college cancelled! It was awesome! So even though the school didn't declare it, no one showed up for classes or work.
My kids now have their 5th snow day and will likely have one on Wednesday. They can't even run around outside in the snow because it is so cold.
I was in MN this am with -40 windchill and it was so cold - I have never felt anything like it. But, it was so nice, I get it twice now that I am back in MI.
Stay warm folks!

We are totally renewing and building our priority points. We will work our way into the Blue Lot and it will be great! And in 2 years, our home schedule is great! Maybe we can win by then.
|1 year 4 weeks ago||There's an app for that||
it's called PicToBrick. You can take any picture, you set the size and it converts your pic to legos. Now, you may not have all the variations of blue or yellow or red that it says you need, so you can just wing it and use the same blue all over for the jersey, but it will look better if you have more variety of colors. The app even tells you how many of each color and size you need, so you could go buy all the specific bricks. I will have to get a pic of our (4th grade level) mosiac to post. My son had a lot of fun doing it.

I think the fact that it is a Thursday night and how bad they were last season is why there are still special deals at this point. I am a season ticket holder and I am not going. We have homework, soccer practice, piano and get to bed at a reasonable time for school.
Did I mention last season was painful?
|1 year 11 weeks ago||Unfortunately||
Unfortunately, many times the development of medications falls squarely on the shoulders of large drug companies. There is no incentive for large drug companies to develop a cure, rather, they prefer treatments that can be given over and over. When the patent is up, they come up with a slight modification so they can keep getting the big bucks. You will hear many cases of drugs developed by smaller companies that have great promise towards a cure of many diseases that get bought up by larger drug companies and the drug is shelved. My husband has thought it would be great if someone (government, someone filthy rich, etc...) would give a BILLION dollar reward to the person/company that develops a cure for cancer, DM, etc... Until there is a lot of money in a cure (comparable to repeating monthly payments), there is no incentive for drug companies to do this.
|1 year 11 weeks ago||Yes||
I scrolled through the whole thread waiting to see a comment like this. My solution and yours are very similar:
1. Students get free admission. Note, there is no ticket to resell. The first 25,000 (or whatever allotment) get in free and once validated as students at the gate get a pass for a real general admission seat (i.e. they can sit anywhere in the student section).
2. A corollary to the above could be that students with excellent attendance could be eligible as upperclassmen/grad students to purchase tickets in an adjacent but "better" section.

the pompoms, I just wish we could have some blue metallic pom poms instead of maize. My kids always pick up extras and we have a million maize pompoms at home. I think the bracelets will be great. I will have to scoop some extras for the kids.

|1 year 18 weeks ago||Changing levels||
The club seat holders on 300 and 400 levels can go back and forth between the levels, but not up to the suite level. Last year was the first year that you could go back and forth between the club levels.
|1 year 18 weeks ago||Do it||
You can go in even though the seats are outside. There is a bar along the windows where you can sit and watch while your kids eat. We do this every game. They have different food offerings from the 300 to 400 level, but you can go from level to level, all you need is a transit pass. 300 level usually has Zingermans, Red Rock BBQ, hamburgers, chicken sandwich, etc... There is also ice cream but that is CASH only and last season it was $6 per cone/bowl. My kids would not tolerate football if it weren't for the club. Also, the bathroom access is great. They usually have some TVs on the 400 level that show other games and sometimes even NASCAR. Yes, the club level folks are such WalMart Wolverines that they are watching NASCAR during the games (esp early season baby seal opponents).

I second the idea of going to Matthaei Botanical Gardens. It has a really wonderful Children's Garden in the back that is really fun for kids of both genders and a wide age range. Because it is outside, it doesn't close so you can go when it is convenient. We have gone in mornings/evenings/winter/summer and my boys love it.
I would skip Mongolian BBQ because it is always super busy around game days and my kids CAN NOT WAIT for food. My kids love Pizza House (probably because we let them order milkshakes). If your kids are willing to try new things, La Marsa on State Street is good.
I like the idea of chaining your stroller to a bike rack or light. I wish I had thought of that when my kids were little and started going to games. You should check out parking on Hoover St, it's the best. One year we made an arrangement for an easy in/easy out spot on Hoover and it was great. We could leave home at 11:15 and be in our seats by 11:50.
They now have ice cream in the stadium and it will buy you a lot of time when the kids are sad/mad.

|1 year 28 weeks ago||Answers||
I am happy to answer!
450 women participate. This is capped, so once the spots are gone, they are gone.
You are in a group (or on a team, I suppose) of campers, about 25. You can request to be with certain people, so I requested to be with my friend and her sister. Since you are with the same people all day you are chatting with them and cheering them on in the different drills. Also during the autograph time and lunch there is social time with other campers and the players/coaches. Last year I was in a group with Drew Dileo's mom and sister, which was fun because of the special attention from the players.
Registration this year was in April, which was late. In 2012 registration was in February. The camp only took 4 days to fill up, so once you get the email that registration is open there is no time to waste.
You have to be over 18 to be in the camp and there is no age limit. I think the majority of campers (just by eyeballing the other ladies) fall in to the 35-55 range. I think you get the most enjoyment out of it if you can actually participate in drills. We had a lady in her 70s in my group this time and she was running, catching and tackling with us and she had a great time. Last year there was an older lady (60s-70s) that the players kept underestimating and she knocked over 3 different players during the day. As long as you love FB you will be fine (but sore).
I hope that helps!
|1 year 28 weeks ago||Thanks!||

I was really grossed out by how many women who are old enough to be their moms (or grandmothers) were going on and on about how they would love to get it on with these guys. I am definitely old enough to be mom to them, and all I could think of is "OMG, I am old enough to be their mom!"
|1 year 28 weeks ago||Some more tidbits||
I wanted to add a few more things that were funny/interesting.
Dennis Norfleet has "D" and "N" tatooed on his calves. D is on the left and N is on the right, each has flames coming up off them.
Borges was asked about life as a football coach during the Q&A. He said for the first 43 years of his life he lived and breathed football and then he met his wife and this changed his perspective greatly. 8 years ago they had their first child and his perspective changed again. Now his joke is that when his kids are teenagers and they ask for the car if he tells them "No" they will turn off the ventilator.
Desmond Morgan has been moved from WILL to MIKE (and they actually told us what tose things mean). I spoke with him briefly to thank him and his teammates for taking time to do this with us and how it makes us enjoy the game much more than we did before. Last year I had lunch with Desmond, Joe Bolden and Ondre Pipkins and it really made me want those guys to do better/succeed because now I know how nice these boys are.
We spent a lot of time on technique and form in each position and we learned some Xs and Os. They actually had some plays developed for us to use in scrimmage. I played corner and now I appreciate that running backward, fast, is very hard.
Jeremy Jackson was very friendly and a good receivers coach. He is premed. At the receivers station, everybody catches a touchdown and has to dance. Their rule is if you don't dance, we will all dance around you until you do dance!
Brendan Gibbons has graduated and is studying social work.
Jeremy Gallon is hilarious. When we were "breaking it down" I asked if we could get a back flip and he did one for us.
It was a lot of fun and I am sore as all get out today. I can't wait for next year! Maybe I can get an mgoblog press pass and do even more in depth reporting!
|1 year 28 weeks ago||:-)||
I'm happy to report about the day! Glad you enjoyed it!
|1 year 28 weeks ago||I was there||
So here are some of my quick notes/thoughts:
Hagerup was there and meeting with the ladies, but he wasn't teaching. Also, his gear was not the same as the gear of the active team members.
Jake Ryan is on schedule to return in 6 months. He is doing workouts daily and 3.5 hours of PT every day. He got advice/emotional support from Countess and Wormley who went through injuries last year.
Taylor Lewan said he wants to return because he wants a Big Ten championship. He also said he sometimes is amped too much for games so he listens to John Mayer to bring himself down. Dr. Hamlet III was "too aggressive" and they thought he might have been abused by a previous owner, so it wasn't working out at their place. They sent him to an actual farm. He assured me that they did not eat him.
Dennis Norfleet is a music major, he sings. I asked what he is thinking of onfield when he is drumming and he likes R+B, nothing specific. He doesn't like pump up songs.
Taco Charlton is very tall. He was a patient teacher at the tackling dummies.
Devin Gardner had to work very hard to resume role of QB. Mattison was praising him effusively about the self sacrifice he made in becoming WR. Devin said, "It's a good thing I had good grades before that happened, because I had to miss a lot of class to learn all the running formations." Also, he and Borges have a good back and forth going.
I asked Borges about his relationship with Heiko. He said he likes Heiko because he likes to argue with him. Also, I asked if he knew that Heiko is a Med Student and he said, "Yeah, a damn stubborn one!" Also, my friend's son goes to school with his daughter so they talked about school, Kindergarten play, etc...
Taylor Lewan benches 420. In pounds per pound comparison, Jeremy Gallon is the strongest (wt lifted/athlete wt).
The trainers recommend 1 g protein/pound of body wt.
One lady commented at the Q&A session that us meeting the players is like a 5 year old girl meeting Justin Bieber.
Brendan Gibbons is growing a handlebar mustache.
Frank Clark is a good dancer and he drank 1/2 gal of OJ for breakfast.
That's all I can remember now.
I will brag that I was able to make all my catches in the "dong forest".
|1 year 28 weeks ago||Yes,||
They kept telling us to tone down manhandling. They gave us flags so we wouldn't tackle, but we still did a lot of holding, pushing, etc...

that we didn't have email back when I was in a sorority. We had to do rants like this face to face. And while it did lead to a lot of tears (especially in Greek Week, when you weren't trying enough, perky enough, etc..) we don't have long term evidence.
|1 year 37 weeks ago||Another thought||
you could speak to someone within the Athletic Department and see if they have a way for you to distribute the information (I would guess not b/c of the affiliation with Mott and Special Olympics), but you never know. If I recall correctly, only certain entrances are open for the spring game and you can at least get that information so any friends/colleagues you have out at the game can be positioned in the right spot for the most people/exposure.
|1 year 37 weeks ago||Great idea!||
I think at the corner of Stadium and Main would be good - a lot of people go by there. Also, you may want to get in touch with the annarbor.com sports people because they could put an article in about what you are doing and (maybe) get more exposure (or at least a different crowd than hangs out here).
Also, it was fun meeting you at the Women's Football Academy last year and wish you the best of luck!

|2 years 3 weeks ago||Here is the breakdown||
of current ticket holders, per the Annual Giving Guide:
Top 250 individuals: 2,028.49 points
Top 1%: 1,365.81
Top 5%: 326.65
Top 10%: 174.67
|2 years 3 weeks ago||Yes, it is money.||
The more money you give, the more points you get. These changes give alums/athletes an advantage, but if you have enough dollars, you get as many points as you want. All tickets have the same face value, but the question is whether there is a Premium Seat Donation attached to said seat. You need points to qualify to get the seats with the high PSDs. Of course, once you get the really good seats, they have a really high PSD and you keep getting a lot more points just to renew the PSD.
The points also get you some "extra" things, like parking at football games. The more points, the better the parking. You also get invited to some other events, like a brunch before a FB practice before the Alabama game.

At first I thought it was $500 to attend, but then I remembered it was less than that and you have fundraising goals to set. I set mine at $500 - which seems to be the only number that sticks in my head. I think it was around $100-125. I met almost all the players, all the coaches and had a great time. I really am enjoying this season more than before (and I really enjoyed it before). Now when I am watching the games I'm thinking stuff like, "Wow, he did great, I can't believe I ate lunch with him!" I am always impressing my extended family with, "Oh yeah, I met ___ and he was cool. He was my running back/linebacker/D-line coach".
I will do it again next year, no doubt.

It's 3 weeks, it won't happen, especially if there haven't been any problems with the pregnancy. Set her up with a nice spa day, mani/pedi (she's probably not able to reach her toes by now), massage. It will all be cool. She will call if there are problems/labor. But there won't be.
My husband went out of town to Rochester, NY in December 1 week before the 2nd child was due. I was really nervous that he would miss it because of a blizzard or something. It went fine. Baby came on due date and hubby was there.
So 1) Set up spa day 2) have arrangements for hospital transport 3) go to game.
