Demerit to the article for incorrect use of crop-dusting. Crop-dusting is when you're walking around and letting rip, preferably near a bunch of people, not sitting down.

Silly non-swimmers. You swim faster when you're cold. Competition pools are pretty frigid.
Granted.....usually it's the water that's cold and the air that's nice and warm. But credit to Sparty for trying.
Anyway, as someone said above: I'd far rather swim in cool temps than play football (or most anything) in the stifling heat.

I think what the athletic department needs most is competence, and Hackett is providing it in spades. Stability - not that important, we're not in the market for either a football or basketball coach so there's nobody that needs to be convinced of a stable future. Hackett should stay for as long or as short as necessary to undo the mistakes Brandon and return to having goodwill from their stakeholders. I think he's still here because he and Schlissel want to turn over a well-run ship, on very solid footing, with a good reputation, and there's unfinished business along those lines. Hackett should stay til that work is done.

It was always hard for me to really muster up a lot of hatred for the Blues because, well, uh, they never did beat the Wings. They were always somewhere between "pesky little first-round appetizer" and full-blown rival.
Besides, the Bluenote is the second-best logo in hockey, and top-five in sports. Once they got rid of the red in their uniform (why did a team called the Blues ever wear any red??) it became one of the best unis around.
Pronger always needed to be punched in the throat, though.

I LIKE the idea of hiring Mack Brown. He's got some kind of a bad rap for finishing up his Texas career with a few 8 or 9 win seasons. Oh the humanity.
|4 days 4 hours ago||It's not like that last||
It's not like that last sentence is a scandal or anything. Should the autoworkers and UAW rework the contract every time someone new is hired that didn't get a chance to vote on the existing contract?
And the CBA isn't imposed from above, it's collectively bargained and agreed upon not just by the employer but the employees. Since the employer agreed to it, it's safe to say "the employer doesn't want him" right now. Whether they would do so without the CBA provision doesn't matter.

But the employer doesn't want to hire him. That's kind of key there.

Most of these press conferences at some point have a very transparent moment where the reporter has already decided on a story, or a partial story for a nuggets article, and probably written most of it and just needs a key blurb or two. So they ask a question designed to get that quote to fill out the story, and if they don't get the quote they try to get clever and rephrase the question a bit. That was it right there.

I'm really not wild about the white pants. Michigan is maize pants since forever except literally for just two years. Just can't get on board with the white all of a sudden. That said, when you include the complete ditching of uniformzz and the loss of stupid piping on the white jerseys, the change overall is a net positive.

An Englishman, a Scotsman, and an Irishman are each sitting at a bar, with a full pint each. A fly comes and lands in each one's beer.
The Englishman calls the bartender over and asks for another beer, this one's dirty.
The Scotsman scoops the fly out, tosses it aside, shrugs and continues drinking.
The Irishman carefully picks up the fly by the wings, holds it at eye level, and yells, "Spit it out, you bastard, spit it out!"

Michigan football is damn near meaningless without the Ohio game. It's as if the Indianapolis Motor Speedway said "it's too expensive to host the Indy 500, let's hold it every other year and fill in the gap with more NASCAR races and we'll bring in the 24 Hours of LeMons and a couple dirt track races."
This isn't just losing track of tradition, it's losing track of the whole purpose of the program.

I get to root for both the best defensive coach and the best offensive coach in basketball. I fucking love college hoops.
P.S. and both are basically the awesomest individuals and stand-up gentlemen in the whole sport too. I really fucking love college hoops.
|5 weeks 6 days ago||As a glutton for punishment,||
I think this will be a very easy read, that is, not punishing at all. Because it all comes out right in the end. The RR book was excellent and fascinating but I was really, really pulling for RR to succeed here, it didn't happen, and the book was full of optimism that was tough to take because you knew it didn't end well. This one will be way easier to digest.
Put another way, the good guys lose in Three and Out, but the bad guy loses in Endzone.
