WD posted an email sent to his aunt (or a friend of his aunt, or something) purportedly from DB saying "we will be fine without you. have a nice life." in response to .... something, presumably a threat to stop coming to games / sending money / etc. Authenticity was called into question and the original email sent to DB was missing. MGoBlog FOIA'ed the email chain to find out the rest of the story.
That said, I doubt this has anything to do with that, because I think Brian would be willing to take anything resulting from that at face value.

I think this is different. You'd have known if it was a real "any news?" thread because I would've already said something assholish.

One of my favorite parts of the report was that once word of this practice got around, frat boys ended up with AFAM minors without even realizing it.

Bud Foster, polished? Uh, no.
Granted, I'm speaking from a position of incredible bias here. But there are problems with Foster. He's interviewed at a number of places - UConn, Pitt, Clemson, Auburn perhaps - and come away empty every time. Given his track record (which should be more like an A than a B+) you'd think he should've been hired at some point.
Internetz rumorz abound as to why he hasn't. Absolutely terrible interviewer, goes one story. It's even possible to find a Hokie fan who presented this story: Frank Beamer keeps sabotaging him by bringing up a severe drinking problem every time he's called for a reference. God knows where that came from or whether it's anywhere from 1% to 100% true.
As far as I can tell, Foster does want his own program (but only a major one or else the Georgia States of the world would've been all over him - he's paid much better now than he would be in the Sun Belt anyway) and has tried to get it, only to fall short every time. Given the speed at which teams were willing to give guys like Will Muschamp a shot, there must be something to this. The general feeling is that Foster would be an HC somewhere already if he were hire-able.
And he's anything but polished. If you thought the snobby grumpity-grumps reacted badly to Rich Rod.....
P.S. Foster favors a 4-2-5 defense with the fifth defensive back being labeled a "whip linebacker." Foster's very, very picky about who he puts in that role and much of his defense hinges on having a really good player there. VT's defense has declined of late and it's directly correlated to not being able to find a fit at that position. I'm not sure we have one. Chase Winovich seems a possibility, athletically, but it also depends on his ability to read plays because the whip has to be everywhere on the field. When VT's defense is at its best, you get incredibly sick of hearing the whip's name. When they can't settle on someone, the defense suffers badly.

Oh come ON. That's some high-quality kookery right there and I say this as someone who would probably agree with most of your political stances. Dave Brandon sucks at his job and is pissing people off - that is the impetus. Everything else is tinfoil-hat crap.

It's not really required to criticize every post in order to criticize one. ypsi wasn't accusing anyone of bias, he was accusing someone of not practicing what was preached.

Eh, I don't think the training really started with Obi-Wan. He got one rudimentary lesson with a lightsaber and the extent of the rest of his training was "use the Force, Luke." It's three years between then and the beginning of The Empire Strikes Back, during which Luke wasn't doing much of anything, and barely any time at all between that and Return of the Jedi. Yoda started him basically at the beginning.

Come to think of it, I can't name Alabama's AD either. And yet somehow, some way, without the AD jumping into every spotlight he sees, the Alabama "brand" is as strong as ever.

I agree with your take on this. I mean, this is not to defend Brandon's tenure thus far. But if things improve, I don't care what the motive is. If he kept silent, he'd be bashed for keeping silent.
And if he's on the way out, anything good he does at the end of his tenure is likely to be kept by the next regime.

There's only one reason to work on it all day: Lawyers. Otherwise, a simple statement can be out in a matter of hours, if not minutes. And there's only one reason you need lawyers, and it's spelled C-Y-A.
That in itself is terrible PR.

Disagree.... if Brandon had said, "Student ticket prices will not go up next year," I guarantee the reaction would be, "oh, so in response to these very loud and clear complaints, your answer is 'we will literally do nothing.'"
|6 days 21 hours ago||No offense to the||
No offense to the letter-writer, but "8-year-olds like it" is kind of a crap reason for doing swaggy uniformz. I used to really like the Carolina Panthers when I was in, oh, late elementary to middle school, because neat colors. I grew out of it within a couple years and had long since stopped caring by high school. (I do still like the colors, but didn't exactly replace my Carolina Panthers Starter jacket with another one.)
Besides, the fact that the gentleman saw Purdue and thought it was Oregon is all the more reason why Purdue was making a huge mistake. If you've done your job, anyone can turn on your game and know who's playing without needing to be told.
Also, who wants to bet that Fairfield was offered free tickets to the game as part of the incentive to make the trip, with the thought of "anything to make sure we hit 100,000"?

|1 week 22 hours ago||Brandon won't be outright||
Possibly right.... but I'm not laying down any money on that. Now that the regents are actually saying this with their own voices, I'm sure they and Schlissel (not to mention an army of lawyers and PR people) have had all the necessary discussions. Now, I'm sure the regents won't stand up in the meeting and go "fired!" but once that public meeting has been had, all for the sake of transparency you see, wink wink, there are no more barriers to Schlissel acting.
|1 week 22 hours ago||If this were my show I||
If this were my show I wouldn't do any muppets so as not to be accused of dancing on any graves. It's one thing to call loudly for a firing and maybe even to slam the door on his butt on the way out..... but I'd stop at kicking him down the porch steps, too. I think it'd be unseemly.
|1 week 22 hours ago||Well, I know she didn't say||
Well, I know she didn't say those exact specific words. The point is that this is a regent - not a spokesman, not a "source", but an actual regent - discussing this. And not once did she say anything about Brandon's job being safe or denying there's any reason to fire him or anything that people usually do in a hot-seat situation right up until the ax actually falls. Which says everything.
|1 week 23 hours ago||There's no way an actual,||
There's no way an actual, living, breathing regent would come out and actually say "the topic is the AD" if there were any decisions left to make regarding Brandon. Would they?

College basketball teams take on new identities every single year. I absolutely loved me some JMo. Stauskas was the kind of player where I was constantly thinking "it is so awesome that this guy is on our side." But the exciting thing about an approaching new hoops season is wondering who's going to capture our attention this year, and how? LeVert? Irvin? Donnal? Chatman? Eeeeeeeee Beilein.
