Yeah, OK. I actually had - have - no problem hanging out with most people, because most people aren't jealous and judgmental dickheads like you. Tell me, what exactly is it that makes you "cool people and a good friend"? The raging envy, or the immediate leap to judgment about people you've never met? It's not like you've proven yourself to be the kind of person people like.
|8 hours 2 min ago||Right, this from the same||
Right, this from the same life's loser who got turned down from U-M and the resulting feeling of inadequacy and small dicked-ness caused him to go on an unhinged rant about how U-M students were all arrogant whiny rich kids in a post entitled "douchey MGoBlog users." Did your amateur psychology work out that totally idiotic and off-based conclusion about me all by yourself, or did you need help from someone who was smart enough to get into Michigan?
|8 hours 47 min ago||I would add something to||
I would add something to this: Starting in sixth grade I was on a double-advanced track in math with a whole class of about 30 students. In eighth grade, which I think was Algebra 2, most of the class slammed into the wall. Hard. A small handful of us stayed on the double-advanced track and the rest dropped back to single-advanced. I don't think it's inconceivable that a particular class just struggles with a particular subject all of a sudden.
That said - geometry is rarely anyone's tripping point. Most math walls seem to be in the really abstract stuff. Geometry is probably the least abstract math class anyone will take in middle or high school.
|9 hours 1 min ago||I dunno about that. I||
I dunno about that. I definitely don't mean to come out and say a kid should be ashamed of himself for dropping down to the "regular" class. But a lot of smart kids won't want to consider that as an option. The original question was "what motivated you in high school?" and for me the answer (besides the various carrots and sticks laid down by my parents) was hanging out with smart people and not wanting to fall behind. If your friends are all in honors and AP or IB classes, then you'll probably want to be as well. It sounds like the frustration here comes partly from not wanting to admit defeat, as it were, by dropping down a level.
Plus, in a regular class there might be the opposite problem. Instead of the teacher focusing on the top of the class, they're likely to focus on the bottom. If the real issue is that you just do. not. get. it. - that's helpful. If the real issue is quality of instruction, it's not going to do the least bit of good.

Opinion: The fact that he's demoralized by getting lousy grades is a good sign. Much easier fix than not caring at all. Getting used to having to exert more effort to succeed in school, that takes quite a bit of time. It did for me.
Does the school maintain a list of student math tutors? Learning geometry from an upperclassman who did well on the subject could be very helpful, even if it's just because it's coming from a different voice. Also, do a little homework on the math teachers at the school. Sometimes a particular teacher-student combo just straight-up doesn't work.

When you list a bunch of songs that I think are just actual good songs and not guilty ashamed-of-myself pleasures, it makes me wonder whether I'm the screwed-up one, or you are.

Sounds like someone got run over by the waaaahmbulance. You've been here five weeks and have bitched about the same thing I don't even know how many times. This is how the blog has been for years. Get over it.

Livin' La Vida Loca is actually pretty fun.
|2 days 11 hours ago||That's not quite what it||
That's not quite what it looks like. First off it's several years old. Second, from what I've read, it's more of a weird motivational tactic where the Attention NFL Scouts sign would stay there and the coaches would post a list of players who missed a class or were late for a workout or something during the week. The list is much newer looking and hastily typed up. I don't think it actually means "La'El Collins is such a selfish waste of oxygen that Les Miles actually thinks you shouldn't draft him."
|2 days 16 hours ago||Why on earth was the Ramirez||
Why on earth was the Ramirez trade stupid? That was a GREAT move. Get an extra fifth rounder, move back just five spots, and get the best OG in the draft as well as a guy who has tons of starting experience and can play anywhere inside the tackles. Why on earth was that a dumb move???
|2 days 16 hours ago||Yeah, I don't get the hate.||
Yeah, I don't get the hate. Considering Rob Sims is an overpaid putz, moving back in the first round and getting the best OG in the draft is a great move. And Manny Ramirez is a great insurance policy for anywhere on the interior O-line. People demanded a DT but OG was just as big a need.
And anyone who complains wasting a second-round pick on Titus Young and his character issues has no right to bitch about the first two picks here. By all accounts Tomlinson and Abdullah are as high on the character scale as it gets. I don't think RB is a position of much need but it's not like we're stacked, either. This is a solid draft. It's not flashy, but I like it so far.
|2 days 22 hours ago||1. Malcom Brown 2. Laken||
That's a great plan except that all the guys you listed were gone by the time the Lions picked, except for Malcom Brown. Tomlinson would never have fallen to the Lions' 2nd round pick.
|3 days 9 hours ago||OK, Lions. 11 picks left||
OK, Lions. 11 picks left before yours. If La'El Collins is still there at your pick, he better not be there after.
P.S. Would also be happy with Grady Jarrett.

I'd be annoyed about a running back, but pretty much all the guys I wanted out of that pick went off the board already.
|3 days 11 hours ago||Eh, I like Corey Fuller as a||
Eh, I like Corey Fuller as a 3rd WR, and with the three pass-catching TEs they have, that still counts as the weapons they need. Bell and Riddick make two RBs...unless you were going to take Gurley or Gordon, I can't say I'd be big on taking a guy who wouldn't bring much extra to the table.
CB, DT, DE are more pressing needs, and I wouldn't argue against another OL - an insurance-policy OT would be a very solid investment unless you really, really like Cornelius Lucas.

If the Lions take any kind of player who handles the ball before the fifth round I will be most upset.
|3 days 15 hours ago||FIFA sucks because there is||
FIFA sucks because there is no oversight. As long as there's no oversight and billions of dollars moving around, it is going to suck. The major pro leagues in the US don't suck because there are laws governing their conduct and because at their core they're essentially a club of 30 or so rich guys whose gravy train relies on mostly upstanding conduct. And even then they look for ways to boost the output of that gravy train even if it makes their product worse.
Of course FIFA can improve. And I can get elected president of the US, technically speaking, once I reach the required age. Now, ask yourself, who is going to make FIFA improve? Who holds their gravy train by the balls to make it happen? Of course the NCAA is better than FIFA - it too is governed by the laws of the US. FIFA is governed by no laws but its own.

Nobody watches golf for the best athletes in the world. They walk around the course and swing a stick. It's like saying I watch Jeopardy for the smartest people in the world when really it's just people who have a particular brain skill. So I'm not sure how the "few thousand people" thing applies (and I'm sure there are more than a couple thousand people growing up playing golf.)
|3 days 17 hours ago||The problem with "imagine how||
The problem with "imagine how it would be without FIFA" is that something has to organize the thing, and given the nature of the event and the money involved, whatever organizes it is just going to be that way, or at best, drift in that direction.
Better would be, "Imagine how it would be if human nature were such that ambitious powerful people weren't also corrupt pieces of shit," which would make a lot of other things better besides just the World Cup.
It's like when people say "I wish the NCAA would just go away." College sports is going to be organized by something, and that something is going to be put together by the same people who run the NCAA.
|3 days 17 hours ago||Gotta be the FIFA World Cup.||
Gotta be the FIFA World Cup. It's not really a six-week tournament every four years. It's really a three-year-long tournament where the whole world gets to play (unless they fall before the arbitrary mercies of FIFA's disciplinary committees.)
Honorable mention goes to March Madness, the Stanley Cup playoffs, the Winter Olympics, the swimming at the Summer Olympics, and the IIHF championships, which have a delightful promotion-relegation system.

Yeah, the protest in question took place in St. Louis or thereabouts, so the Cardinals gear is almost unquestionably the original.
|4 days 20 hours ago||That was one of the single||
That was one of the single best things ESPN ever did. Actually being responsive to fans. It was stunning that they actually did that, but I think they would've been in real danger of losing ratings. I cannot say enough how much I hated the practice of spoiling the pick before it was announced. I don't care what other networks do on Twitter because not looking at Twitter is the easiest thing in the world.

At least three of those commercials belong on the shit list.
- The hitch up horses one: if Viagra Guy is at an age where he knows how to get shit done, surely he's old enough to have the common sense to drive around the damn mud hole.
- The one where Viagra Guy is driving through the desert and his car overheats, and pouring a bottle of water in the radiator is all it takes to fix it? Bullshit. Most of that water will evaporate before he even turns the ignition key again. A commercial about a smart car guy written by someone who knows fuck-all about cars.
- When Viagra Guy is on a sailboat, the frickin sail is on the wrong frickin side of the boat, and backwinded. Clearly the guy's solution is not to retie his knot, but to find a powerboat to tow him through the water and hope nobody notices. A commercial about a smart sailboat guy written by someone who knows even less than fuck-all about sailboats.

Pretty sure that woman is Cersei Lannister. Which gives the commercial a certain je ne sais quoi for GoT fans.
|6 days 8 hours ago||How do you hate those||
How do you hate those commercials so much and not even mention Petunia Dursley and her nebbish wanker of a husband, getting caught spying on the neighbors and using binoculars to look at something ten yards away? I do love the little wave the Garcias give, though. "Hey, yeah, we see you staring at us. I'll just give you this neighborly wave to let you know we can totally see you."
Plus that valet appears to be the only one at that party. Didn't he park the damn thing???
