If it's less fun for you because you don't know whether Funchess's injury is a strain or a sprain, you should maybe take a break for a little bit.
|9 hours 13 min ago||Can anyone explain why Hoke||
Can anyone explain why Hoke should talk in detail about injuries? "I want to know" is not a legitimate reason.

Having seen the replay of it, if that's all it took, that thing was ready to pop anyway.
Totally sucks though. Tulloch and Levy gave the Lions one of the top LB tandems in the league. Time for Whitehead to do his thing, and hopefully Van Noy will give us a boost after the bye.

It works if you use the Recent or Hot tabs, but not the New tab. At least that's how it's been for me for a while, on either Chrome or IE.

Why are we assuming it's the public pressure that made FSU extend the punishment? I think that's a fairly big leap to conclusions. Isn't it at least possible that Winston did something extra in between that made them extend it - sassed the coach, or whatever - and they just don't want to talk about it?

I don't hate Rutgers per se. (Although, they probably have the clowniest AD in the conference and I do have a certain amount of distaste based on stories I heard from fellow naval officers about how midshipmen in uniform were treated at Rutgers.) That said, I hate the fact that we'll be playing a game against them every year for the foreseeable and even unforeseeable future, which takes the place of games I actually want to see like Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, etc.
The number of games that Michigan will play every year** against long-time traditional Big Ten opponents is three. Maybe three and a half, we'll give Penn State half the benefit of the doubt. Three or four games out of 12. Rutgers every year, longtime Big Ten teams occasionally. To me, that sucks.
Therefore, one of the few shits and giggles I can get out of this arrangement is to root for it to blow up in the faces of the perpetrators, which an 0-8 season every year for both interlopers would help with. (Well, 1-7 for one of them.)
**Or even a majority of years; at least in the 11-team B1G, you basically played everyone every year and the two-year break for a couple teams at a time was barely noticeable.

I'm still of the opinion that I hate Ohio State less than I hate the fact that Rutgers and Maryland are here.

Fair point. So I submit then that had we beaten our actual rivals more often under Hoke's tenure, nobody would look at Utah and think his job hinges on it. So those games were also bigger.

But said pressure will be instantly relieved if he beats MSU and Ohio, and nobody would remember Utah.
Therefore the answer to the question is still "not only no, but hell no."

It seems like a very common sense argument, I would just hate to see ticket prices go up 30% to correspond to the tax the league now has to pay. In no instance ever do money-making entities simply accept a very large cut to their accustomed profits without trying to restore them somehow.

Right. Ask 100 people where "Miami University" is located and 90 will say Florida. Thus, Miami of Ohio.

Turkeys are really ugly birds. I always thought a six-foot turkey would actually be pretty frightening, albeit more in the nightmarish medical experiment sense than an imminent-disembowelment sense.

It's not like this is either original or unique. All part and parcel of a college program.

PSU's right tackle went to Penn State knowing exactly what was happening to them.
But you're misdirecting your anger. Think of the poor right tackle for the Baltimore Ravens, and their poor fans, who have to suffer because the NFL punished Ray Rice.
|2 weeks 8 hours ago||Here's the question you have||
Here's the question you have to ask: Let's say the incident came to light immediately when it was first discovered by McQueary in 2002. Would Penn State football have gone on exactly as it did? Of course not. Their name would've been dragged through the mud back then. Paterno might've been forced to resign. They certainly wouldn't have been better in the intervening years and almost certainly would've fared worse - and I don't think there's much room for dispute of that. Therefore, yes, this has plenty to do with football.
|2 weeks 8 hours ago||Sanctions should never have||
This is so fucking stupid I don't even know where to begin. Every single fucking time a program is hit with sanctions, they're "levied against innocents" by your definition. Let's never punish a program for anything they do for fear that the poor fucking fans might be wronged. I sure hope Biff in Chi Phi doesn't feel too badly about any sanctions, the poor innocent baby.

No, I certainly can't imagine how a football coach raping people in the football facilities has anything to do with football.
|2 weeks 9 hours ago||It's not like any of them||
It's not like any of them didn't know what they were picking. The outcome of this is that it's better to go to a program with sanctions. They'll schedule you a nice trip to Ireland and you can still go bowling later on!
|2 weeks 9 hours ago||This isn't the time for||
This isn't the time for carrot-and-stick. There should be no carrot for compliance, just a much bigger stick for noncompliance.
I think what we've managed to demonstrate here is that you should do whatever you can to hide the presence of a child molester. You might not even get caught, and if you are, a couple months of bad pub is all you have to put up with and your program can otherwise skate on by.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||I think it was a good idea||
I think it was a good idea badly executed. Football has run into the problem where you can't keep retiring numbers even though there are clearly deserving players, and it would be crass to just un-retire them all. But now you have a potentially great player like Devin Funchess wearing three different numbers - how would you honor him going forward?
Better would have been just to continue to have the patch, but not make the numbers something you earn - because that precludes the player who earned it from ever making his own mark.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||Most of those statistics||
Most of those statistics assume something other than an end-of-game situation. Nobody should ever punt on the 30 normally, but this situation is akin to a baseball team up five runs in the ninth and allowing a run to score in exchange for the second out, which they'd never do in the fourth inning. IME a roll-out pooch punt is the play, with a passing option in case the defense foolishly ignores that possibility. Aim the punt for the corner and try and get it out of bounds inside the 10.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||Michigan and Notre Dame are||
Michigan and Notre Dame are two teams that just seem to fit better in a game. Hard to explain that one. Games like Arkansas will be cool and all, but there's a certain randomness to it that wouldn't ring if you tried to make it into a rivalry. Sort of like how Michigan and Minnesota or Wisconsin feels a hell of a lot more natural than bullshit-ass Rutgers. Playing the Notre Dame game after a couple warmup tosses means the fall is really and truly here.

Roose Bolton is an emotionless sourpuss, usurping the North from its rightful owners, and allowing his people to commit heinous acts with no repercussions in sight. You get one guess who that sounds like.

OK, so, we've established that the picture was the work of some photoshop dope and isn't a real depiction of anything. Doesn't it still reflect really badly that the design people at adidas basically think "ok, here are your colors, go play with them" and don't have the slightest interest in knowing the history of their subject (unless, of course, they can work in some slogan to be sewn into a jockstrap lining)?

Yeah, this is just one person speaking, but I found the SAT yawningly easy compared to the ACT, mainly because of the time limits. The ACT's was way less forgiving and I found myself going "what??" when the proctor said pencils down.
