the just released schedules were a flat-out statement that the B10 doesn't believe SOS will matter in playoff selection

| 1 day 9 hours ago | Here's a free article from |
Here's a free article from 247 on the camp. They list the top five competitors, and Speight isn't one of them. However, they do give him a form of "honorable mention." |
| 1 day 9 hours ago | So if he's a legit 6'4" and |
So if he's a legit 6'4" and will show up on the roster as 6'5", then he's still probably unlikely to play tackle. I also, by the way, just think he plays like a guard, regardless of height. I've said that since he came on my radar. |
| 1 day 13 hours ago | I think it's just not very |
I think it's just not very likely that shorter guys have the wingspan/length necessary for the job. Wingspan approximates height, so guys who are 6'3" are less likely to have the reach necessary; they also lose a couple inches worth of weight, so then you have to worry about their strength at the point of attack, too. |
| 1 day 16 hours ago | Okay, I just re-watched the |
Okay, I just re-watched the first 2:15 of Shane's junior highlights, and - except for his runs/scrambles - the video highlights his accuracy. Deep balls are part of it, but so are throws to the sideline, throws to the back of the end zone, fitting the ball in between the safety/corner, etc. The point is that a QB could complete 25% of 200 passes on the year, but if his highlight film shows just those 50 complete passes out there, someone could say, "Wow, this guy's really accurate." |
| 1 day 17 hours ago | At Michigan the majority of |
At Michigan the majority of tackles over the last decade have been 6'6" or taller (according to Michigan's rosters). Lewan, Schofield, Ortmann, Dorrestein, Huyge, Kolodziej, etc. I think the last 6'5" guy to play tackle was Steve Schilling, who...moved to guard. The guys in the OT pipeline are 6'6" and 6'7" players like Tuley-Tillman, Braden, and Magnuson. It's clearly a trend with Michigan's coaches, not just recruitniks. |
| 1 day 17 hours ago | I think Logan Tuley-Tillman |
I think Logan Tuley-Tillman has a lot of potential. I also think Erik Magnuson has the feet to do well as a pass blocker; he's supposedly pretty ineffective in the running game. His body needs to improve, though; he's young and I just don't think he has the physical strength to do the job right now. |
| 1 day 17 hours ago | There's virtually no buzz |
There's virtually no buzz about any of those tackles committing. Jones is probably the closest, but Michigan is probably #2 or #3 there right now, pending some visits next month. |
| 1 day 17 hours ago | I'm not a big fan of Grimm. |
I'm not a big fan of Grimm. He's a waist bender, and he doesn't have the feet to play left tackle. |

Casey Tucker has expressed a little bit of interest after decommitting from USC. Roderick Johnson has visited. Otherwise, we might need to send out some new offers. |
| 2 days 7 hours ago | that's so sweet |
Maybe she'll visit you while you lie in your casket. |

Don't talk about "John Carter" that way. |
| 2 days 9 hours ago | Remember all those highlights |
Remember all those highlights of Nik Stauskas missing all those shots before he got to college? It was right when I saw those highlights that I knew he would be a great shooter in college. |

Hopefully he's not quite as addicted to alcohol. |

I think we have our next Attractive Michigan Girls of the Week... |
| 2 days 11 hours ago | Morris's senior year and |
Morris's senior year and Under Armour performance dampened a lot of excitement about him. I don't think we should overreact to those things, but they're a part of the "evaluation." The fact is that he didn't do so hot. On the flip side, he did well at The Opening last summer. |
| 3 days 8 hours ago | Brandon Graham ALMOST chased |
Brandon Graham ALMOST chased an MSU running back down from behind. Crable missed a tackle as the play went to the defense's right, then chased him down all the way back to the left and downfield to make the tackle. P.S.: I think it was A.J. Jimmerson, but I might be wrong. |

It is hyperlinked, at least for me... |

That's one reason why I've stopped posting pictures of the fairer gender. |
| 3 days 10 hours ago | Height/length is important |
Height/length is important for a few reasons. First of all, basic human anatomy suggests that shorter guys are going to weigh less, so a 6'4" guy with good proportions might weigh 245 while a 6'2" guy would proportionally weigh 220 or so. And weight is a factor in taking on blocks, ball carriers, etc. Second, the SAM is often used as a pass rusher, which necessitates taking on offensive tackles at times. If you lack good length, it makes it more difficult to get your hands in the OT's chest, it prevents you from knocking down passes, it makes it a little tougher to reach around a blocker and grab the QB, etc. As you mention, I think it also helps in pass coverage because SAM linebackers - while good athletes in their own right - might not have the basic coverage abilities of some WILL linebackers, strong safeties in the flat, etc. |
| 3 days 11 hours ago | Well, I don't know what he |
Well, I don't know what he benches or squats or power cleans or anything. But he struggles sometimes with bringing runners down, which caused the "functional strength" comment. |
| 3 days 12 hours ago | It seems like kids always |
It seems like kids always come in an inch or two shorter than their listed height, so he's probably more like 6'2". |
| 3 days 12 hours ago | I'm not so sure that Swain |
I'm not so sure that Swain looks like a SAM. To me he looks like he could be a WILL, maybe like a Ben Gedeon type with WILL skills and the potential to grow into a MIKE. Unless he's hit a growth spurt, he looks a little short to be the prototypical SAM that Michigan's coaches have been pursuing. |
| 3 days 12 hours ago | He has likely added weight |
He has likely added weight since the end of the football season. The report is based on his junior film. Ferns is supposedly in the 235 lb. range, but his legs aren't/weren't as skinny as Winovich's. They might look similar in the upper body but have a significant difference in the lower body. |
| 3 days 12 hours ago | I usually profile about 90 |
I usually profile about 90 players and lead right up to the first game, so it should start at the end of May/beginning of June. I haven't set the schedule yet, so I can't tell you an exact date. |
| 3 days 12 hours ago | I think a lot of them do |
I think a lot of them do maintain their speed/athleticism. Those guys know how to run and are used to making plays in space, so I think their previously existing level of proprioception helps as they add weight. |
| 3 days 13 hours ago | Yeah...the last one was |
Yeah...the last one was Lawrence Marshall. |
| 3 days 13 hours ago | Magic! I don't know... That |
Magic! I don't know... That was weird. Thanks for the heads up. |
| 3 days 13 hours ago | I'm not going to argue that |
I'm not going to argue that the Lions are GOOD, but they are certainly talented. The problem with the Lions was poor secondary play, injuries, and a few head cases (Titus Young, Ndamukong Suh, Nick Fairley). All those guys were talented, plus Stafford, Calvin Johnson, etc. It's not CFL talent. The Raiders, however, are very much lacking in talent. |

Good. Hopefully that opens the door for a non-criminal to make hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars. |
