I think it's just kind of rare that players immediately leave a program and speak positively of their former boss. Regardless of who it is, coaches often rub people the wrong way. And oftentimes, the split is not amicable - it involves the coach getting fired, the player getting traded, the player getting released, etc.
Harbaugh himself said that players will not necessarily realize their coaches' positive traits and impact until years down the road.

|1 day 13 hours ago||Yeah, and that's why I think||
Yeah, and that's why I think traps are successful these days - because the defensive linemen aren't taught to defend it. There are always ebbs and flows in the game, and one reason Michigan State, Ohio State, and (hopefully) Michigan can have success with these plays is so many defenses face zone runs on such a regular basis. Teams get used to defending zone, so then traps and such work. When teams get used to defending traps, whams, etc., then zones start to work. You see the same thing with defenses going from predominantly 4-3 to predominantly 3-4 and back and forth.

From what I've seen, I don't see much upside in putting him at tight end. He doesn't have great ball skills, and he's not very big right now. I think it would be best to put him on defense and special teams. He was a good offensive player in high school, but he was basically a wildcat quarterback.

I think Khalid Hill is probably best suited for it, even though he's coming off the ACL tear. Henry Poggi might be able to do it, too. Otherwise, maybe Kerridge with Houma in the backfield.
|1 day 13 hours ago||I don't agree that one man||
I don't agree that one man has to take himself out of the play. Good defensive linemen can squeeze the hole when they see their guy pulling. I've also seen defensive tackles get in the hip pocket of the puller and make the play in the backfield if the back block doesn't get there in time.
All that being said, I like trap plays. The way to beat zone runs is by getting penetration, and the way to make penetration hurt is by trapping the penetrators. It's a good idea to have some traps in your arsenal if you are also running the zone.

I agree on Henson, begrudgingly. If he had stuck with football, he probably would have been a 1st round pick, if not top ten overall. The three quarterbacks taken in the first round of that 2002 NFL Draft were David Carr (#1, Texans), Joey Harrington (#3, Lions), and Patrick Ramsey (#32, Redskins). At the very least, Henson would have been picked in place of Ramsey.

I personally don't think Christian Pace or Justice Hayes would be difference-makers in any way, shape, or form. And Hayes definitely doesn't seem to fit the mold of a Harbaugh running back. Meh.
Give me anyone back for this year, and it's Countess. Whether he plays nickel, returns kicks, backs up at corner, etc., he could have done something. I know people fuss about him being limited in man coverage, but it's not an accident that he made 6 picks in 2013. Those guys don't grow on trees. That was tied for the third-best total in school history (Tom Curtis had 10, Charles Woodson had 8). Good coaches work with what they have, and I think Harbaugh/Durkin could have found a role for Countess.

LOL. Do you think if we looked at it from the Muslim side, the Muslim "soldiers" or "fighters" or whatever would be saying "Aw, shucks. The guy I'm about to shoot is probably a really nice guy and I'm very sad that I must now pull a trigger and put a bullet through his brain. I am having a very bad day but I simply must do this to a great man."? Nope. Anybody who's in a war thinks the people on the other side are f****** a******* who deserve to die. Heck, Michigan players probably think that about Ohio State players and vice versa, so of course it's going to happen in war.
Why the hell would anyone be surprised that American soldiers are calling Iraqi fighters "savages"?

"However, if he doesn't understand that his position as head football coach at a major public educational institution means that offhand statements and tweets are going to get a level of scrutiny that wasn't the case in S.F., he's going to be constantly making news in ways that having nothing to do with his job responsibilities."
And yet, if he hadn't made that comment, we might not be in the midst of a conversation about a somewhat important topic - not movies, but the topic of free speech, religion, tolerance, etc.
Also, who says he doesn't understand it? I have yet to see anything from Harbaugh saying "Oh, I had no idea it was a big deal." Maybe he WANTED people to talk about it, and maybe he sees his position and his statements as a way to get people talking.

Sarcasm aside, calling yourself an "academic" while insulting someone else's intelligence is a wee bit self-aggrandizing. Nobody gives a s*** if you're an "academic."
It would be the same as me saying "Your opinion on Greg Mattison's defense means less than mine because I'm a coach and you're not." True? Maybe. Dickish? Absolutely.
Let your opinions speak for themselves. If you have good points, people will agree. If you don't, people will disagree. It's a pretty simple formula.

On the one hand, I'm sure the occasional Christian or Jew or Buddhist or Hindu is doing something equally terrifying somewhere in the world.
On the other hand, feelings matter more than dead people. After all, the dead people can't feel anything so who cares, but the living people can feel sad so we have to save the living people's boo-boos on their feelings.

I don't see anything wrong with being unambiguously proud of Chris Kyle. He enlisted in the armed forces and did his job very well.
Personally, I'm not "proud" of him because I have nothing to do with him. But if others are, I'm not going to argue.

I thought strong safety would suit him coming out of high school, but we're set there with Jarrod Wilson. I think he could handle free safety, too. I just don't see him as a quick-twitch guy who can hang with wideouts, and I don't see him as a long and physical guy like Richard Sherman who can push wide receivers around.

Unfortunately, I don't think Wayne Lyons is *that* good. I think he will start, and I think he will be fine. But I've always viewed Lyons as probably a better fit as a safety, so I think he'll be playing a little out of position. He might be better in this defense becaus he'll be more physical, but I think Countess is a more talented athlete.

|4 days 12 hours ago||I root for them to do||
I root for them to do slightly worse than Michigan. That's not working out so well for me. On the one hand, Rodriguez got a raw deal and it would bug me if his whole reputation was tarnished because of what happened at Michigan. On the other hand, I don't want everyone for years and years and years saying Michigan really screwed up by letting Rodriguez go. So I hope he goes 9-3 every year while Michigan goes 10-2 or better.
I agree that Rodriguez's offenses are fun to watch, and I think they're more fun now that he has a solid passing quarterback (Anu Solomon) instead of running backs/wide receivers masquerading as quarterbacks. I enjoyed watching Denard, but sometimes the offense in total was pretty painful to watch.
