The NFL isn't interested in slow tight ends. LaQuan McGowan is a fun story, but he wasn't extremely productive and he's not in the NFL. Most kids coming out of high school want to play in the NFL. Hayes probably knows that his long-term future is as an offensive lineman, so why not learn that position instead of being a blocking tight end for four years and then having to learn a new position to try to make it in the pros?

I'm not Seth, but Google AdSense, for example, supposedly gives about $1.00 for every 1,000 ad impressions. (I think it's lower now, but I'll use that number because it's round.) You can have up to three AdSense ads per page.
So if you click on, say, ten MGoBlog pages per day, that's a potential 30 ad impressions. 30 x 365 = roughly 11,000. So that's about $11 per year just from AdSense. Other ad networks have higher RPMs, so it could be a good chunk more. It doesn't seem like a huge amount for one person, but I know I produce way more than 10 pageviews per day, and so do a lot of other people.
Bottom line, I guess: If you don't like ads because they're ugly or they slow your browser down or whatever, you should probably donate $15/year or so to make up for lost ad revenue.

Does anyone know if he's related to Eric Bieniemy? I've literally never seen that last name anywhere else, so there probably aren't that many of them out there.

The nice thing about Michigan sports is that there's constantly new information. New players, new recruits, new coaches, new business-related items, new drama in the sports world, etc. Because of that, I think it's kind of difficult to get burned out, but then again, I'm a lifelong sports nut, just like a lot of others here. Sports are soap operas for men (and some women).
What I don't get is blogs that think they can make it by being "home organization" resources, mommy blogs, do-it-yourself home improvement stuff, etc. At some point you're just recycling ideas or reshuffling previously used material, or you're regurgitation information that could be found in 500 other places. I mean, obviously some people do make a living with those types of things, but after a short while, I think it would be very creatively limited.

"As a Michigan B-School grad, I'm fascinated by the econmics of a single-team blog like MGoBlog. How do you make it financially viable? Will Brian be able to feed a growing family and retire off of it? What do you do when user growth tops out (no mattter how good it is, you are not going to have hordes of Texas / USC / etc. fans on here on a daily basis). It has a ceiling."
Yeah, it's something I have become more and more interested in as I've seen some of the behind-the-scenes pros/cons of running a blog. I don't do it full-time like Brian and Co., but I've been doing it enough to see some of the limitations. Like you said, there are a lot of Michigan fans, but other than a few Michigan State, Notre Dame, and Ohio State fans who want to branch out a little bit, there's only so much growth you can do.
To some extent, though, I think it's an issue that the U of M Athletic Department also sees. It's not just relegated to the internet. T-shirts, hats, season tickets, etc. are only going to be purchased by Michigan alums and fans, not Texas or USC fans. Obviously, that's a much larger scale and there are more varied opportunities for advertising, seat licenses, etc., but there is an upper limit.

Yeah, John Beilein really sucks at developing players. If someone isn't good by the end of his true freshman season, I'm sure the freshman they replace him with the next year will be much better.

a) I have fast internet. It's only 4x.
b) It's odd that some people judge your character based on putting a -1 on the internet, but whatever floats your boat.
c) As for letting it go, it seems to me that some of you have the choice of "letting go" seeing a -1, and I have the choice of "letting go" a nearly daily post about a topic that's irrelevant to Michigan. Either way, we could each let something go.
d) There are 5 upvotes and 4 downvotes on this topic. It appears to be almost 50/50 on how many people appreciate these threads and how many could do without them.
e) There are 17 weeks of NFL football with games about three days a week, plus playoffs. That's 51+ "OT: Football ____________" threads. There could be 162+ "OT: Baseball ___________" threads. There could be 164+ combined "OT: Hockey ________" and "OT: NBA ______________" threads. Fans of those sports don't generally start those threads, because that would be dumb.
I'm a fan of relevant threads about important developments in almost all sports, but daily open threads about any sport are overkill.
Of course, if you disagree, you can ignore this post. Just like you can ignore the -1. Or I can ignore the constant threads. Or you can make personal attacks or neg me, neither of which will bother me.
You and I disagree. It doesn't make you a douchebag or an asshole. I still think there's a good chance that you're a fine, upstanding human being.

I can't disagree that Peppers is a good athlete, but he's not that outstanding for a defensive back. His 40 time, jumping ability, etc. don't stand out as "wow" type of numbers. Now he might have been faster if he wasn't 213 lbs. at the Combine, but that combination of power, speed, and change of direction is very valuable at running back, too.

If the media's there taping or broadcasting everything, then some guys might just DVR the thing on BTN or whatever and then watch it later. And I think it helps out the lesser players, who will get a chance to show off their personality and work ethic in person, rather than just trying to force an eye-popping performance in numbers. Maybe a guy like Erik Magnuson is much more impressive in person than he looks on the TV.

I don't know, but it's probably because NFL teams aren't that interested in drafting them. They're the ones who put together the invitation list for the Combine. If you look at the underperformance of Michigan's offensive line over the past few years, it makes sense that teams might not be too interested in drafting those guys.

I agree. I think Kansas would have beaten Michigan by 8 or 10 points. I still think Michigan played poorly last night and should have won the game if not for an uncharasteristic off night by Wagner and MAAR, but the run wouldn't have lasted past Saturday, IMO.
