- Do we really need three tight ends in a class of maybe 16 total?
- This is an underwhelming list.
- Petit-Frere is an amazing name for a offensive linemen, but we would be obstructing cosmic destiny by blocking this kid from attending MSU.

Are you referring to recruiting? Miami, Penn State, Notre Dame, and other teams outrecruiting us this year are far less "elite" than we are. It is a little funny that the trajectory for Harbaugh's third class seems to be going down rather than up compared to the past couple years. Maybe a ceiling effect because our last classes were so high.

Fed's not human. Raising his game to new heights at 35 and making a big dent in Rafa's career head-to-head advantage. GOAT. Fin.

Speight was fine. Just exciting to imagine what Harbaugh's hand-picked QB recruits (who happen to be very highly rated) might be able to do with the reins. We'll see what happens.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||This is the attitude I'm||
This is the attitude I'm talking about. Why be so defensive? Maybe Peters will prove to be the better QB through spring and fall camp. That would be a good thing for the team, since we know Speight is aleady a passable QB. Maybe Speight will prove to be the best option this year and start the rest of his career. Maybe Speight will start this year and have simliarly mixed results, then Peters will take over as starter the following year.
I'm just going off what I saw on the field last year, and I question whether we can't find a player with more ability to start at QB.

Greatest football player of all time as your comparison? Okay, I'll play along: Brady was the number six QB recruit in his class (per Tom Lemming), so his pedigree and implied upside was much higher than Speight's (rated number 22 QB, per 247 Composite).
You know who also was the number six QB recruit in his class? Brandon Peters. Ergo, he will go on to be the greatest QB in NFL history.

I'm kind of with you here. Clearly the majority on MGoBlog think Speight is going to be a great quarterback (and are irrationally defensive of him, in my opinion), but I have some major reservations about his ability to be a championship-caliber QB. We'll see. I'm confident that it will get sorted out.

Thanks for all the responses. Interesting. I've watched enough Beilein to understand that the lack of offensive rebounding is by design, choosing instead to get back on D quickly. But with defensive rebounding...
I can see how prioritizing stopping the 3 on defense would make you vulnerable to dribble penetration, which makes you vulnerable to offensive rebounds. Makes sense. Louisville was in the paint a ton today, but they only shot 5-20 from 3. Maybe that's the payoff for giving up so many second-chance points? The other payoff is having offensively talented, diverse big men--like someone said, there aren't many college PF/Cs like McGary who are skilled and thick.

I'm admittedly a fairweather basketball fan, so I haven't seen much of this team prior to the tournament. A question, though, for more avid followers:
Why are we so bad at rebounding on the defensive end? Are our big men just inept at boxing out? Are our big men physically overmatched? Does our defensive scheme put us in poor position to rebound missed shots? With about five minutes to go today, Louisville had more offensive rebounds than we did defensive rebounds--unthinkable based on my experience. OSU accomplished the same feat for the duration of the game Friday. What gives?
If we could rebound at just at average rate on the defensive end, we would be a juggernaut.

OSU rebounded more missed OSU shots than Michigan did. How can that happen?

Westworld is the best show i've seen in years. I almost wish they'd just end it after this first season and not make any more. I'm almost certain I'm going to be disappointed with where they go from here.

The Iowa game was the only truly egregious waste of our considerable talent. But the underperformance in the game definitely was immense.

The player card for James Conner of Pitt at that link lists him at 3'1" and 233 pounds. Redefining a bowling ball running back I guess. Good luck young man!
We haven't seen that kind of height-weight ratio since Ron Dayne!

Ohio State owned Bishop Gorman this past recruiting cycle and have the upper hand (based on ballz and such) on most of the rop Nevada kids again this time around. We should be happy to just get the QB.

Seems like we're not in the driver's seat for many top 2018 recruits at this stage compared to the past couple of years. Hope I'm wrong. It seems like after two successful years under Harbaugh, top guys would be signing up?
