For context, the Jaguar's Offensive Coordinator in 2014 took a position coach job at Michigan in 2015.

This would be a coup to get a guy like this as a position coach
|2 weeks 5 days ago||He hadn't done much||
He hadn't done much recruiting this season, which makes me think this departure was forecasted awhile ago.
The only commit he was primary recruiter on this year is McCaffrey, and, no offense to Jedd, but any QB recruit is coming here for Harbaugh not Jedd Fisch.

I really sympathize with a kid like Dawson. He and his whole network probably felt like he was on the NFL track while he was a senior in high school and started to embrace those expectations and all the material rewards that come with them.
Four years later, here he is: one last chance to break out and make it to the league. Harbaugh was probably honest with him about being behind Onwenu and Bredeson on the depth chart. So, what do you do with so much potentially on the line? Sure, you could say that he had little chance of making the league since he hasn't been able to get playing time at Michigan, but I guarantee you that Dawson and his family still believe that he has what it takes.
I hope he finds a team where he can start, and I hope he does make it.

That means we'd only have 7 scholarship OL next year who aren't true freshmen (Cole, JBB, Ulizio, Bredeson, Onwenu, Runyan, Spanellis)? Wow--sign more OL in this class, stat!

Dawson's highlight at Michigan was his epic performance in the viral Running Man Challenge video. Good luck, big guy.

There was a lot of talk when he came in of moving Ty Wheatley to left tackle. Given that Asiasi fills a similar role as Wheatley (arguably better), I'd like to see Wheatley gain weight and give LT a shot. It's our biggest question mark next year, and maybe Wheatley could grow into a svelte, Lewanesque tackle. He's need about 30 extra pounds.

Not being emotional at all really, just assessing the facts about our team. We had All-Americans at LB, CB, and TE in Peppers, Lewis, and Butt, each of whom was in the top 3 to ever play their position at Michigan.
On defense, three of four defensive linemen were 1st or 2nd team All-Big Ten; two of three linebackers were 1st or 2nd team All-Big Ten; three of four members of the secondary were 1st or 2nd team All-Big Ten. So 73% of our starting defense was All-Big Ten 1st or 2nd team, and the guys who weren't--Hurst, Thomas, and McCray--were no slouches.
On offense, four offensive linemen were 1st or 2nd team All-Big Ten, whether you think they deserved it or not. Of our receiving targets, two of three--Butt and Darboh--were 1st or 2nd team All-Big Ten, and the other was 1st team last year. There's no spot on the all-conference team for fullback, but Hill would likely be 1st or 2nd team. So, basically, about three-quarters of our offense are All-Big Ten players, too.
On special teams, our returner and punter were 1st and 2nd team All-Big Ten.
About three-quarters of our team was among the top one or two at their position in the conference, and several of them were the best at their position in the country. As far as I can tell no other Michigan team at least in the past 20 years can claim that--even the 1997 and 2006 team didn't have as many All-Big Team 1st and 2nd teamers.

Running game was mediocre, sure, but if Todd Collins is our quarterback this season, we're in the playoff.

Can we just put an extra 30 pounds on Ty Wheatley and make him a super-athletic left tackle? Wouldn't this make everyone happy? We have like five serviceable tight ends right now and zero serviceable left tackles.

Defense was generational.
Offense had the best TE in program history, two All-Big-Ten wideouts (Chesson first-team last year, Darboh second-team this year), and four All-Big-Ten offensive linemen (Mags first-team, Cole, Kalis, Braden second-team, all this year).
That arrangment will not happen again soon.

I really didn't like Speight's body language tonight either. Wasn't comporting himself like a leader who commands the respect of his teammates.
|3 weeks 20 hours ago||You're probably right, but I||
You're probably right, but I don't think it's fair to conclude that O'Korn has bad pocket presence based on the small sample size this season, especially without him every really getting a chance to settle in.
We'll never know what he would've looked like after a full season had he been annointed out of camp.
|3 weeks 21 hours ago||I agree 100 percent. I think||
I agree 100 percent. I think if we had just an above-average QB this season, we're in the playoff tomorrow.
I'm not saying that O'Korn is better than Speight, but I think Harbaugh made a decision to go with the safe option out of fall camp rather than the high-risk-high-reward option in O'Korn. Now, O'Korn looked awful in the snowy Indiana game after sitting on the bench all season, but I wonder how things would've played out this year if O'Korn had been annointed out of fall camp with all of Harbaugh's confidence behind him.
|3 weeks 21 hours ago||Speight has been mediocre||
Speight has been mediocre against real competition this season. For every good throw, like the TD to Hill or the prior pass to Chesson, he has one or two really bad unforced errors, like the missed TD passes to Smith and Darboh. You don't win championships with a guy like that unless he makes up for it with his legs like Barrett.
The best news we could get this next spring or fall is that Peters has clearly passed Speight.

Yeah, I respect DeVeon's effort and grit (he won the Indiana game for us this year) and wish him well, but I won't be sad to see someone else get the majority of the carries next season.

Other than the four or five monumental busts, the defense played well.
Other than that, Ms. Lincoln enjoyed the play.

I know that most of the MGoBlog community likes him, but I just don't see Speight as capable of leading a championship-caliber team. He's just a guy at quarterback. I really hope that Peters surges ahead of Speight next spring and fall. We know what Speight is, so if Peters can push ahead, that means he's a good quarterback.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Hopefully this opens the door||
Hopefully this opens the door for Peters next season. Speight's ceiling is just too low for a program of Michigan's caliber.

Not an exaggeration to say he single-handidly won the game for us. Defense was obviously its usual great self, but I don't think we clear 6 points without Smith. Which is both great for him and very sad for our offense as a unit.

This is a total indictment of Harbaugh. He's had well over half a season to develop one (ONE!) of five quarterbacks into a semi-competent passer. Instead we have five guys who couldn't start for 100 other FBS teams. Just ridiculous.
