I don't think any of this has anything to do with being critical of the team. We were bad this year, and Brian is the first one to tell you.
|15 hours 43 min ago||This isn't about||
This isn't about disagreement. It's about people being consistently, arrogantly, flippantly contrarian about everything and especially about Brian's work. It's as if Brian were a college professor who teaches a discussion heavy course in which a handful of students challenge and tear down everything he says.

Everyone stay positive please! We started the season ranked in the top 10, but we've just had a couple setbacks and should be right back up in that range after a few more weeks. Young team is still finding their chemistry. Go Blue!

Everybody remember to stay positive! If things don't go well, just remembert that next year we'll be in national championship contention! Or 2016!

I guess I"m just paranoid after this season and never want to have to play a RS freshman or RS sophomore on the OL again.
|3 days 14 hours ago||After the OL debacle this||
After the OL debacle this year, will we take another OL in the 2014 recruiting class? Only two right now (Mason and Bushell-Beatty). Could really, really use a legimate pass-rusher, too <sigh>.

Dude, a poll of thousands of fans here resulted in 90% wanting Borges gone. What data are you relying on for your cocksure assertion?

Don't know the answers to your questions, but I think your assessment of our approach this year is spot on. Although I would say that part of the reason for "doubling down" was a fear of throwing interceptions. Another thing that Hoke hung his hat on when he came in was a low turnover rate, and they overcompensated badly to reduce turnover risk after DG's shaky start. Overall, just a total failure in assessing team strengths and weaknesses and putting players in position to succeed.

UConn finished by
winning two straight. Akron three.
That's good for us. Right?

I don't think I'm nuts. My point is that at the end of LAST SEASON most people either thought it might be a loss, the odds would be 50/50, or that we would win.
Nobody, before the Akron game this year, predicted we'd get crushed by OSU. Those predictions and expectations came after we self-destructed. Which was mostly our staff's doing, in my opinion.

A little. It reminded me that there is a good team in there somewhere that should get better with maturity. I don't know what the hell happened this year, but yesterday showed that it's variable and correctable. Why it took the staff 11 games to play to their team's strengths on offense I will never know, but I hope that lesson is remembered next year, whoever the OC may be.

I mostly agree with you. I was on the board for two years before I even knew who the "mods" were (or what that term meant). I guess Formerly Anonymous was one, not sure who else. Ever since the RR firing, the newly instated mods have taken on a much more public persona, which I personally think is unnecessary.

I really enjoy that site. It's rough writing, to be sure, but there is some really good information and analysis if you sift through the typos and grammatical mistakes and random Go Blue! posts.

I don't blame Brian at all for being fed up with people who assail him with accusations of not knowing anything about football and/or not being a true fan in response to nearly everything he posts. The UFRs are just great reading for a fan, and every week somebody inevitably chimes in with "LOLgineer hasn't ever played footballs."
This has been an incredibly disappointing and frustrating football season, cast against the backdrop of an incredibly disappointing and frustrating decade of Michigan football. It sucks for people who are passionate about U-M football. This is a sports blog. People bitch about their team on sports blogs when the team is disappointing and frustrating. People celebrate their team amidst the bitching when the team is good.
There is a cadre of posters here who fancy themselves the attitude police, as if they have some sort of special protector role for the public image of the program. I encourage these people to spend more time at the offical U-M sports website blog (http://www.mgoblue.com/blog/), a thrilling virtual space with a broad range of ideas and humor, to wit. You're not a better fan for towing the company line. It's okay to be critical. It's okay to be dissatisfied. It okay to have your sports soul crushed and come write about it on MGoBlog.

I think everything hinges on the OL's development. They're the biggest question mark, and this season has taught us how much a bad OL can undo a whole team.
|6 days 8 hours ago||Yeah, Wormley was held badly||
Yeah, Wormley was held badly allowing Miller to get the edge on his second TD run.
|6 days 10 hours ago||We were missing Ross, but I||
We were missing Ross, but I honestly feel like the defense today was pretty representative of how they've played all year. I think the defense is average to good this year. We haven't really been tested by a good offense (except for Indiana) until today. Our safeties have been shaky all year. Our tackling has been between mediocre and good. Pass rush was okay, but generally not there. We haven't seen any back like Hyde before today--destroyed arm tackles that we usually get by with--nor QBs like Miller. They're a tough, tough team to defend.
There aren't a whole lot of offenses like OSU's out there. Our defense should do okay against a middle-of-the-road bowl team.
|6 days 10 hours ago||I acknowledge that Gardner||
I acknowledge that Gardner made some bad decisions at points this season and kind of went into a psychological shell for most of October and November, but I still believe that he's a special talent who's capable of extraordinary things. I really hope, for his sake and his future's sake, that we can roll out a decent OL next season. It's really fun watching him operate with a little bit of protection.
I also noticed him take a little bit more of assertive role with his teammates today, which I think is necessary for his development as a leader. I don't pretend to know what's happening behind the scenes with these guys, but there are little hints that Devin doesn't have the biggest leader image amongst his teammates.
|6 days 10 hours ago||Sure. There are question||
Sure. There are question marks before every season, though. I see those question marks as the areas that are most affected by coaching--those are the areas where coaches really earn their (considerable) paychecks. Any schmuck OC can run Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams 40 times a game (just for example). What do you do with the uncertainties?
For the record, I thought we would beat OSU preseason, too, because we should be able to beat our rival at home most years with a respectable team. We ended up not having a respectable team, and I put that mostly on the staff, partly for scheme, partly for teaching, and partly for motivation.
