You're back in force! I love it. Brian's consolidation of power knocked the cobwebs off of you.

Can't tell if this was a typo or some unfathomable profundity.

If anyone would refuse, it would be Dantonio.
"We're not here to talk about Connecticut!"
|8 hours 8 min ago||Well for the past four years||
Well for the past four years they've had the second best winning percentage in the Big Ten, so I think he's got his program in pretty good shape (we're fifth over that span).
|9 hours 16 min ago||Yes, you've made this point||
Yes, you've made this point many times. Are you arguing that MSU won't be good next year?
|9 hours 20 min ago||MSU was a good team last||
MSU was a good team last year, and their record doesn't reflect it. They lost 6 games, yes, but their defense kept them in every game, and every loss was extremely close (save ND, where MSU still held them to 300 total yards and 1-14 on third down).
People keep pointing to last year as some sort of proof that MSU isn't really that good, but I think the evidence suggests that last year was the exception to the rule that they've been a consistently very good team the last five or six years.
|9 hours 25 min ago||I don't think that's going to||
I don't think that's going to happen. Dantonio has brought a new culture to that program. The Sparty-No days are over as long as he's there.
|9 hours 27 min ago||I agree in general about||
I agree in general about Dantonio's proven ability to plug in the next guy. But they're losing some pretty instrumental guys on that defense that won't be easily replaced. Bullough, Allen, and Lewis have been rocks in the middle of that defense for three years. And Dennard has been lock-down. They'll be some adjustment for MSU next year.
|9 hours 29 min ago||They'll take a step back just||
They'll take a step back just because they're losing so much on defense. Dennard, Allen, Bullough, Lewis, Reynolds are all have expiring eligilibility (and Drummond and Calhoun might decide to get on the train and leave early, though Calhoun would be a stretch maybe).
I'll admit that I thought the same thing after the 2010 season, when they lost Greg Jones, Eric Gordon, Rucker, and Hyde. Dantonio coached up a bunch of three-star freshmen and sophomores in 2011 and their defense was even better, though. I think this year is more of a loss than 2010, and they'll be less formidable next year.
They lose three starters on the OL, too.
In sum, you probably have to assume they'll probably be a top-25-caliber team next year just based on Dantonio's track record in getting defenses ready. I don't expect top-10 again, though.

Wow, really? Meyer made public comments to that effect? That's huge news, if so.
|12 hours 47 min ago||Well, we were 8-4 last year,||
Well, we were 8-4 last year, to be fair. OSU is a really high variance team, I think. They can probably beat anyone in the country if they're clicking. But if the offense is having an off day, any good team can take them down. MSU is the opposite, in that their defense is consistently good and slowly grinds down the will of the opponent.
The great irony of all this is that MSU is exactly what Hoke wants us to be. A pro-style, low-risk, defense-first tank that a high-variance team like OSU will bounce off of. Like Saban did to Meyer's Florida teams. Who would've thunk that MSU would be that team first?
|12 hours 48 min ago||I disagree. I think OSU's||
I disagree. I think OSU's offense is as good as any in the country. They've been pretty prolific.

He's already back as "Ranch Doritos." Can't keep a good man down, apparently.
|13 hours 1 min ago||Not sure if serious, but I||
Not sure if serious, but I completely agree with this. Before last night, they played one marginally good team all year long, and only two or three marginally good teams last year. Their defense is weak. Their offense is really good. I think there are more than ten teams in the country that would whack OSU right now.

|13 hours 12 min ago||I think MSU fans have to be||
I think MSU fans have to be going crazy. They had one close game all year (i.e., less than 10-point margin), which they lost in fluky fashion at ND. If not for that weird outcome, they'd be playing in the NCG right now with a great chance to beat FSU with their defense. I don't think anyone here wants to admit how dominant they were this season. Their defense is something.

Yeah, add Denicos Allen to that list. Any chance that Drummond goes pro? Dantonio proved in 2011 that he can reload after losing senior leaders. I hope that was just luck?

You don't have to defend yourself. MSU had an impressive, dominating season. That can be acknowledged on this board.

Lol, it was incredibly entertaining watching your emotional development through the course of this thread. From spitting curse-laden insults, to crying out that you know the best way to act, to pleading with others to accept your point of view, to accepting that other people may have different views than your own.
Who says MGoBlog isn't a public good!

|1 day 1 hour ago||Dantonio has proven he can do||
Dantonio has proven he can do it with all experience levels. In 2011, his only senior starter was Kevin Pickelman (?). Three true freshmen; three second-year players; three third-year players. Pretty darn young.
I remember when Greg Jones, Eric Gordon, Marcus Hyde, and Chris Rucker all graduated after 2010, we all thought MSU's defense would come back to earth. Fact is, it was just getting ramped up. There is no reason to believe Dantonio won't just keep reloading.

Yeah, it's a tough time to be a Michigan fan watching your two main rivals slug it out in a classic Big Ten championship. I don't think we're THAT far behind, but we definitely have something to prove next season if we want to be in the conversation with OSU and MSU. They've set the bar.
We need a huge influx of toughness next year.
