Coaches' timeouts are worse. Basketball teams should get one, full stop.

That's funny because I wrote my response above to MGoBender before reading this.
Marty's family being involved would've been an interesting way to reinforce the theme there's more than one way to harm women and children, more than one form of evil, sometimes borne of our own neglect and self-absorption.
Just something. As is, I don't really know what the show was about that hasn't been rehashed by every cop movie.
My favorite part of the show was the acting during the triangulated storytelling of the first half of the season and some of the directorial flairs, like the robbery on the stash house in episode three.

Maybe, but I think they wasted a ton of screen time that could've been used more economically toward plot development. The whole interrogation of the sherrif at the beginning of this episode was worthless, for example. And I can't even remember what happened in Episode 7. It was bad writing, in my opinion.
It's really really hard to finish a story strong. The same rushed feeling happend in the last two episodes of Breaking Bad, and they had six years to pace the plot arc.

If I wanted to watch a story about two men redeeming themselves, beating evil (but not all evil! DUN-DUN-DUUUUN), and becoming friends, I'd watch Lethal Weapon, Bad Boys, 48 Hours, Another 48 Hours, or any of the other hundreds of Buddy Cop movies with the same take home.
I just thought True Detective was breaking new ground and was disappointed that all we got was killing the bad guy, heroic survival, and maybe there really is some meaning to life.

I thought it was terrible and a major disappointment given the expectations set by the first few episodes. Way too much unresolved, way too many missed opportunities (e.g., tying Marty's family into the denouement), and no clear point. In the end, I look at this show as great directing, very good acting, and mediocre writing.

I'm not afraid of Indiana. We're much, much better than them, and they've had some flukey shit go their way to get the results they have against us. As long as Yogi Ferrell doesn't play like Oscar Robertson again, they don't have enough weapons to hurt us. That Sanford guy was just running at the basket like Rodney Stuckey on coke, no chance of actually scoring the ball, and getting ridiculous foul calls.
We should beat them by ten, at least, all things being equal.

Coaches never sound good when they're underpeforming expectations. Hoke's "we've got to coach better" line sounds noble when we're 11-2 but grates when we're 7-6. It's easy to say "I've got to coach better" when you're pleasing the fanbase. It's harder to say it when it's abundently true and the fanbase is riled.
I respect Hoke a lot for continuing to put the blame for shortcomings squarely on himself even when the pressure mounts. Borges couldn't resist the sirens this season and dipped into this "execution" comments.
Izzo is taking it to a whole nother level. No subtlety at all. Shameful stuff from a college coach. From a grownup, really.

The reason this site is so popular is because it's not a bunch of 50 year olds with parking passes in the Blue Lot and insider bitzzzz (althought they're getting more access, it seems). It's intelligent people applying thougtful analysis to a subject that usually has the luxury of neither. MGoBlog empowers the average nerd fan to have confidence in his or her data (i.e., personal observations and statistics). Sometimes they get it right (e.g., Borges), sometimes not (e.g., RichRod). But people "show their work," are intellectually honest, and nobody pretends to be something they're not.

This is all so fascinating to me. Who are you? I mean, who are you such that you are able to attend spring practices? Who is MaizeMan? Do you have friends on the staff? Do you work for the athletic department? Are you just making stuff up? I'm always curious who these self-proclaimed insiders are.

That guy shouldn't be taken seriously and single-handedly guarantees that that site will never be respectable outside its little niche following.
|4 days 10 hours ago||Huh, interesting. I've been||
Huh, interesting. I've been reading their message board off and on for about a year or two, so I don't know all the history. They talk regularly about having attended practices, and some of the info seems pretty darn specific. Most of it is pretty general, though (e.g., "Godin looks bigger and has a motor").
They hyped up Bellomy big time during spring 2012, and I caused a little fracas over there by calling them out after his historic Nebraska coming-out party.
I guess I find it hard to believe that somebody would put years and years into cultivating a lie like that. Pretty sad, if true.
I don't know what to believe anymore!

The guy with the handle MaizeMan over there--who authored the articles linked to above--provides some excellent insight and tidbits. I'm surprised they don't get more traffic than they do because of it. He's pretty balanced in his assessments.

Many believed that photo captured the ethos of the MSU fanbase so perfectly that it must be remembered forever. Kind of like the V-J photo of the sailor kissing the nurse in Times Square captured the ethos of postwar America.

I'm convinced that the schizophrenic complexity of our offense last season was about three-quarters of the explanation for our abhorrent line play. I expect our line to be better this year, even without Lewan and Schofield.
