Under Hoke, starting was not an indicator of being successfully developed. A lot of guys who started and got regular PT were criminally underdeveloped or misused. Others were criminally underdeveloped or misused and didn't start or get PT.
Put another way: Almost all of the guys on the team were criminally undeveloped or misused under Hoke. Still, 22 of them had to start.

Okay, last post because this is just too ridiculous, and I can't help myself.
I don't have an opinion on Nick Baumgardner as a writer. I know his name, but couldn't say much more about him. I have a lot emotionally invested in the principle of rationale thought. My point is simply that it's an interesting and relevant fact that he is an MSU fan. As a consumer of media, you should make an effort to know as much about your souces as possible.
If you can't understand that, fine. God help 'Merica.
|1 week 9 hours ago||I totally agree with you that||
I totally agree with you that there are "quite a high number of 4-star guys that haven't panned out yet," and it bugs the hell out of me and was my major reason for wanting Hoke gone.
For me the question last season during the Great Brady Hoke Coaching Inquisition was why? It seemed like for the people who supported Hoke (and there were many, many people on here in that camp until about November), the argument boiled down to: By some stroke of unbelievable chance occurrence, all our 4-star guys just didn't turn out to be good at football. The alternative argument was that something, apart from individual player capacity, had infested our program, affecting all players, on average.

It's helpful to know that a writer who covers my favorite team is a fan of one of our main rivals. This isn't an interesting detail to you? Bias infuses all writing, whether overtly or implicitly. Implicit bias often manifests simply in what one chooses to write about, what is considered news.

I think it's fine to be skeptical, but I disagree with your diagnosis of the problem. You think the reason that all of our top prospects (that 95% of FBS would kill to have) have underperformed is that they all somehow just turned out to be dumb football players?
|1 week 11 hours ago||I understand your trauma, and||
I understand your trauma, and it's not your fault. There's no excuse for how fundamentally our talented recruits have underperformed these past years except for (a) coaching or (b) program "culture." Both have been, or are being, remedied. Things will make sense again shortly.

|1 week 1 day ago||Silly||
It's silly to criticize this "practice," because the practice of evaluating and making decisions about personnel and direction happens in every single organization when there's turnover in leadership. Every time. Harbaugh was just up-front about it.
And it's silly to criticize Heitzman for feeling "bummed." No matter how hard-working you are, it's inevitable to feel "bummed" when you have be evaluated. Nobody likes having to prove themselves, even if you know you're good. All premeds, even the smart ones, hate taking the MCAT. It's a bummer man.
Now, quitting to avoid being evaluated...
