Ohio State's Scholarship Sign: Fiction

Oh, the pain remembered.

Oh, you just woke up a part of my memory that I thought that I had filed away forever. Watching 3 OSU-UM games in a row being lost by a field goal with my late father brings back memories when I was younger and was convinced that the sun would never rise again.  But, I would like to rekindle Bo’s first year in 1969 where Michigan killed Vanderbilt and Washington only to be crushed by Missouri by 17 to 40 and then loose to MSU 12-23.  UM went on to win the next 4 after the MSU loss prior to the infamous OSU game.  Ohio State had run the table and the Big Ten was scheming how to let the greatest college football team in the entire Universe return to the Rose Bowl (The Big Ten had a policy then that a team could not go to the Rose Bowl 2 years in a row).  Bo, to the chagrin of myself for fear of upsetting the mighty Buckeyes, stated “Who says that OSU is gonna win?” . The rest is history.  Let’s just hope that Brady will bring that swagger back to the might Wolverines.

Fairy Tale

First, you should be arrested for child abuse for feeding your poor child broccoli.  The poor kid will suffer from gas during school the next day and be made fun of in class as she relieves herself.  All in all, I hope this Fairy Tale has a happy ending!

Losses equals cheap tickets

After checking the ticket prices on StubHub and Ebay this year, I found that you could have attended every game for less than face value of the tickets.  In fact, I bought 2 tickets in the Chairback seats on the west side 50 yard line for the Wisconsin game for $50 each. The donation required for the season tickets in this section is $2,000 ea or about $285/game. So, the actual ticket price was about $340/ticket. With those prices and lack of demand, the season ticket sales will drop and once that happens, it will be like a house of cards and there will be empty seats.

With the amount of money that has been invested in the stadium, it is absolutely essential that we field a Championship team. The Bricks and Mortar are great but it never assures a successful program in any business venture. It is people that define success and to attain that success means investment in people.  So, if Michigan is going to be a Champion, then we need to be at the top or very near the top in compensation for our coaches to get the very best available.

It's all about the speed of the game.

When Miami played Marshall in Nov, 2001, it was Freshman Ben Roethlisberger against Junior Byron Leftwich. Marshall won 27 - 21. After the game Leftwich told Ben not to worry the game will slow down and by the time he is a junior you will be great. The rest is history.

Denard is in his "freshman" year as a starting quarterback. By the time Denard is a "junior" at quarterback, the game will have slowed down and he will not be making the 1st year starter mistakes. The same goes for all the other young players on this team. By next year and for sure the year after, Michigan will once again the Champions of the Big Ten and "gulp" dare I say, NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!

Thanks for the analysis!!

Good job. I pretty much agree with you. UM travels well and since it has been 3 years, UM fans will buy every available ticket. Also, UM has a national audience. You can't go anywhere in the US, or even abroad wearing a UM shirt or hat without someone saying "GO BLUE"!  Personally, I think there is nothing better than watching the Wolverines on New Years Day.

Au Contraire

Au Contraire my friend. You should hope you will not be in front of me. Have you ever seen a human cannonball at the circus? You just might be one in front of 100,000+ fans.

There's a time to stand and a time to sit.

No doubt, there are times to stand to cheer for critical or big plays or even during momentum shifts. But, not everyone in the stand is not a teenager or under 30. To say the elderly should stay home or sit in the disabled section shows arrogance and lack of respect. Many of those that can't stand for the whole game have been supporting the team for decades. The jerks that come to one game and stand for the whole game with no regards for others are just plain A** H**es.

Have seen it before

Fortunately in our section, most have had the tickets for years. Occasionally, we have a few fans that want to stand the entire game. We usually are able to persuade the inconsiderate numbskulls to sit during "less important plays" or we would launch them 50 rows down to the field where they could get a much better view.

As far as the screaming woman, a couple of years ago there was a teenage girl that let such a blood  curdling scream that my ears started to ring. I then very calmly told her that if she screamed like that again into my ears, I would reach down her throat and perform a laryngectomy without anesthesia. That was the last scream that she let out.

All it takes is a little persuasion!!

Dealing with Sparty

Why is it that Sparty fans act like they have never beaten us before?  Remind them that jealousy is an ugly emotion!  I would much rather deal with a loss than deal with our elected clowns turning this country upside down.

RR and Robinson are shear geniuses

Am I the only one who gets it? RR and Robinson have developed a game plan against Indiana that:

1. Protectected Denard. With the offense on the field for only 18 minutes, the chances for injury are reduced.

2. Denard only threw the ball 16 times therefore his arm was strong and sharp for the last passing play. On the other hand, UM forced Chappell to throw 64 times and by the time he had to throw the Hail Mary, his arm was a wet noodle.

3. Lastly, Michigan scored 2.3 points per minute while on offense as opposed to Indiana's .83 points per minute. If Robinson had unleashed the defense to even up the time of possession to 30 minutes per team then the score would have been 70 to 25. It would have been a boring game, viewers would have changed channels and not been able to see the heroics of DR. Also, RR would have been demonized for running up the score.

So, there you have it from my perspective.

Advantage UM on offense with DRob no matter who we play!

With DRob, UM has the edge because it is essentially a 12 to 11 man advantage unless you count the refs at OSU. His ability to read the defense, once the LBs commit to either the run or the pass, they are dead. He is uncanny the way he can make a small target for the tacklers by the way he twist his body as he hits the line and makes them miss what should be a relatively easy tackle. Once he sees a small hole, he is gone. He just has to learn to go out of bounds or hit the turf when a defender has an obvious angle for the tackle.

I predicted UM would win at least 9 games at the beginning of the season and I am sticking to it. After seeing Tate and Devin last week, I feel very confident that we can reach those goals.

Go Blue!!

Officiating

I hope these officials are volunteers because they are bad and don't deserve to be paid. I don't just mean the ones yesterday but other games as well. How could the officials and replay officials miss the touchdown that wasn't at ND where the control of the ball was lost on the two yard line?

And, ND got screwed last night when the officials missed that the play clock ran out before the center on the last play of the game where MSU scored on a fake FG. Should have been called back and a penalty. Another phantom second for MSU.

As far as yesterday, I don't know if these were big ten officials but it was clear that they could have called holding on UMass on virtually every play. There was one play where the UMass player horse collared the UM defender to the ground right in front of the official and no call.

I say either enforce the rule or eliminate it!!!

UM needs to stay focused

I expected the UMass was going to be a trap game. This is still a young team that came off two emotional games. I will take the win.

On the other hand, we should beat BG easily. If they play Sean Joplin and he plays emotionally, he could give the DBs fits. He can jump the high jump over 7' and has great hands and speed.

I hope we can give our back-up QBs some reps.

Refs blew it!

Don't forget about the ND touchdown that wasn't. when Jones lost control of the football before crossing the goal line and the Refs missed it and the boys in the review box ignored it. It was obvious that he did not have control of the box. Maybe a little home cooking?

Things work out.

Unbelievable performances by DRob against U Conn and ND. It's just great to see positive press for UM again. And, it looks like Mallet made the right decision.

Go Blue!!

Problem Solved

I am going to the game and the BTN will replay the game on Tuesday and Wednesday. If anyone wants their problem solved, I have 2 great extra tickets listed on Ebay item # 270634162669 .

Any Sports Bar

If you don't have direct TV, you will find that any sports bar will have it.

Best event I have ever witnessed at UM stadium.

Brock has demonstrated human courage at it's finest.  His determination and fortitude to come this far is totally inspirational.  I live in Toledo which is not far from Waseon and have followed this family tragedy since the news broke out on Christmas day. I too had a tear in my eye and lump in my throat as this fine young man walked in front of 113,090 fans cheering  his moment of triumph.  If that doesn't put our daily irritations or football game outcomes in perspective than nothing will. Anyone who says that RR, his coaching staff and the team is not a family is totally wrong. Go Brock, Go Blue!

Loud and Involved

I have been going to the UM games since High School. There was no doubt that this was the loudest game that I have ever been to. It was louder than OSU in '69 or the Indiana game when Carter broke loose for a last second touchdown or any of the great comebacks. I think the noise got the fans more involved in the game. UM is now an intimidating venue!!

Title game

No matter how you cut it, at some point two teams will face one another in the regular season and again in the title game. Putting OSU and UM in the same division guarantees that those two won't but the posibility of a team that never faces OSU and UM could go to the "Big 10/12" championship game and Rose Bowl even though they could be the 3rd best team in the league.

The whole thing reaks. It's all about the money.

Standing

Well said. If you want to stand through the entire game either go to the student section or final row or better yet stand by a concession area and watch it on TV.

Tough Love

Although Lloyd was not my favorite coach, his tough love with Braylon brought him around to All American status. Tate needed a "spanking". Hopefully it will bring him around so that he can reach his potential. Next year and after will elevate Michigan back to our usual custom where we are equal or better than the Clown School in Columbus.

Experience - the key to success

It is well known that the largest gain in performance is the difference between the first year and second. Freshman QB mistakes cost us 1 or more games last year. 1 game would have put us in the bowl picture. In addition the injury to our center was catastrophic. We will go to a bowl it’s just a matter of which one.

Votes for RR

I voted for RR and its 24 to 3 (89%) in favor of keeping RR. As far as the age theory, I have been at UM games since 1959. Other than a basic training in the fall of 1963 for the Air Guard, I have only missed 6 games. I said that it would take 5 years to turn the program around when RR took over. He took over one big mess with little talent.

I live in Toledo and still have to listen to tongue wagging of the clown school in Columbus fans about the losses to Appalachian State and then Toledo. Carr left the team with only one QB in the stable.

For those who want RR out be careful what you wish for. Remember there were a lot of people in this country that wanted "change" 2 years ago and look at what we got.

Michigan's odds for a bowl game

I might put a dollar down on those odds but I would kiss it goodbye before I did. I think our odds of going to bowl game are much higher. Say 8 to 1.

Should be a runaway

U Conn's defenses tongues will be hanging down to their knees by 4th Qtr.

Predict UM 42 - U Conn 21

UMs offense will dominate

Predict: UM 42 - U Conn 21

More positives than negatives

There are a lot more positives on this team than a few negatives. This will definitely be another improvement year with UM at least 7 and 5. Next year we will be challenging for the big ten championship and 2012 we will be challenging for the National Championship with a big win over Bama. With the empty cupboard that Lloyd left, it has always been my prediction that it would take 5 years to turn this program around.

Now that MSU out of scholarships

That's to bad. I am sure MSU could use some more 2 stars.

UofM drain

Hey! You got it all wrong.  Al gore says there is going to be massive global warming. In a few years, Michigan will be the ideal spot in the US. Florida, Texas and all the southern states will average temperatures in the 110s, while Michigan with all the lakes, fresh water and Palm trees growing in Ann Arbor, people will flock to the U of M.

Don't be so hasty to discount Rutgers

It's not just what Rutgers can do for the Big Ten but what the Big Ten can do for them. New Jersey is one of the top three recruiting states along with Florida and Texas. The Big Ten would elevate Rutgers and most likely increase the fan base in the largest TV market in the US. This would increase the stature of the Big Ten and also increase the number of recruits from NJ to attend Big Ten Schools which would increase the level of play in the Big Ten. This would help the Big Ten regain the reputation of superiority that we once held.

FREEP a very valuable addition to anyone's home

These allogations are absurdly picky compared to major violations like head coaches handing out cash to recruits or running backs driving around in cars "loaned" by alumni.

Around this household, we find the FREEP does make an excellent fish wrap.

Addition to Big Ten

What about Rutgers? They have one of the, if not the biggest television market in the US. They have 35,000 students and a 52,000 seat newly renovated stadium. Their academics are on a par with the big ten and would bring in revenue. After all, this is all about money!!!
