Agreed. I believe he…

Agreed. I believe he deserves a shot to run a program somewhere, especially after what he achieved this year.

I actually searched for a post about Sherrone Moore getting a head coaching opportunity elsewhere, so I could try to get the nightmare I had last night off my chest. I don't want to dream it again tonight, as I slept terrible afterwards. I dreamt that Ohio State fired Day and hired Sherrone.

Let me just say that I don't think that would happen. I'm sure I dreamt it because I was thinking about Mattison and Al Washington while laying in bed.

Tonight, I'm going to think happy thoughts. I will instead think of how great things will be for the three weeks after the Wolverines beat the Hawkeyes for yet another Big Ten Championship!!

Go Blue!

Exactly my thought. Well…

Exactly my thought. Well deserved. He was a great player, and is a great coach.

Yes! I miss that. Not that…

Yes! I miss that. Not that what we have now isn't good as well, but man I miss the old days.

Yeah, I agree with this…

Yeah, I agree with this. Washington is basketball on grass... good, but not great. Had FSU not lost their QB, I'd put them at 5 over Washington.

Oh, giving away Guaranteed…

Oh, giving away Guaranteed Rate bowl tickets... I'll pass. Ha ha ha

I live in the Phoenix area…

I live in the Phoenix area. Wife & I would be thrilled to cheer on the Maize & Blue while they stomp TCU

Brian, you have a lot of…

Brian, you have a lot of people pulling for you. You are loved and you are talented. I would suggest you reach out to those in the MgoBlog community for help navigating your way to a much better place, and also seek some counseling as you move forward.

It is not easy picking up the pieces on your own. I for one can attest that drugs and overuse of alcohol can lead to very poor life decisions and constant misery. My path to redemption was found at a non-denominational church. I pray that you will be able to find your way through this difficult time in your life, and rise above it all.

I would guess in the Amoeba…

I would guess in the Amoeba defense, the depth chart would begin something like this for Michigan's personnel:

SAM - Aidan Hutchinson, Braiden McGregor, George Rooks, TJ Guy
5Tech - Julius Welschof, Gabe Newberg, Kris Jenkins, Rayshaun Benny
Nose - Christopher Hinton, Mazi Smith, Phillip Paea, Ikechukwu Iwunnah
3Tech - Donovan Jeter, Jess Speight, Mike Morris, Dominick Giudice
Rush - Taylor Upshaw, David Ojabo, Kechaun Bennett, Jaylen Harrell

Will - Ben Vansumeren, Jayden Hood, Tyler McLaurin
MIKE - Josh Ross, Kalel Mullings, Cornell Wheeler, Nikhai Hill-Green
Nickel  - Michael Barrett, Anthony Solomon, Joey Valazquez, R.J Moten, Junior Colson

Strong - Brad Hawkins, Jordan Morant,  William Mohan, German Green, Rod Moore
CB1 - Gemon Green, DJ Turner, Andre Seldon, Darion Green-Warren
CB2 - Vincent Gray, Jalen Perry, Quinten Johnson, Ja'Den McBurrows

Free - Daxton Hill, Sammy Faustin, Makari Paige, Eamonn Dennis?

Obviously Hutchinson rarely comes off the field. He could handle any of the positions along the front on passing downs.

Maybe Braiden McGregor, Mazi Smith, David Ojabo, or Jess Speight becomes a starter in a different spot up front before the first game.

No telling who starts where in the secondary... other than Daxton Hill will be at Free.

Mike position would sure be a lot better with Micah Parsons transferring in!

Obviously could really go for a solid CB transferring in...

If they play in the "spring"…

If they play in the "spring" does that mean the games will be during Jan, Feb, Mar... when it is snowing up north? Or will the games be played in Mar, Apr, May... and we can kiss the season of anyone entering the NFL draft goodbye?

I think we are all ready to…

I think we are all ready to see Michigan beat Ohio State. I think it happens this year. I don't know how... but "Hungry Dogs Hunt Best". Just make HDHB your mantra for the next 3+ days... it just might clear up your case of BPONE.

GO BLUE!

Life would suck so bad…

Life would suck so bad without MGOBLOG. Seriously!

I can't rely on any site for news for other teams I follow like I can with Michigan sports. This is solely due to Brian and the gang's efforts to bring us amazing content like they do so frequently.

I still experience actual emotions when I read things that Brian posts, and sometimes the other guys too. I can't remember the last time I felt anything reading boring content elsewhere for other teams I follow. The attachment to MGOBLOG is so real, because the feelings I get while reading their posts are very real. I laugh, cry, rage, and everything in between... as I'm sure do many others.

I LOVE the work they do here. I pray that they all still love what they do, because I really don't want to lose them.

Mattison & OH Recruiting Coach Mattison will not be around forever. This might be some foreshadowing of just how long he has left in the tank, or maybe not. If Washington can recruit Ohio, this is a good move just for that reason.
I was fine with the Rose Bowl

Everything was fine until 1997. Up until then, Michigan played for the Big 10 Championship and a chance to face off against the Pac 10 champion in the Rose Bowl.

Unfortunately, pride got the best of most of us when the Coaches Poll voted Nebraska #1 and the AP Poll voted Michigan #1. That was when a lot of people's opinion about having a playoff began to change. The trouble is, the real problem was the polls... and since we continue to use polls to decide things today it will continue to be a problem.

Actually it doesn't

I will definitely be looking to see who won the game. I do care about College Football, especially one team in particular, and I'm interested in who will win this year's CFP matchup. I'm just not going to watch this upcoming game.

My point is that I don't want to see an SEC College Football Playoff. If Oklahoma and Clemson hadn't had the record they did this season, what would have kept Auburn out of the playoff if they were ranked #2 between Georgia and Alabama?

Is it possible that a commitee appointed to decide who gets into a four team playoff could take four teams all from one conference? Even if you and I agreed that those are probably the four best teams (on paper), does that make it good for College Football as a whole?

If the SEC always has the best teams, what does that mean for the future of Michigan football? That is a future I for one do not look forward to.

Sad but true

Mostly because I don't want Alabama to win, again.

However, does a Georgia win mean that Otis Reese decommits from Michigan?

So, while I would like to say I "couldn't" care less... that would be a lie.

I can find out who won without watching.

Yes

Georgie belongs, because they won that conference. Alabama did not win their conference. Sure they went 12-1, but UCF just went 13-0 and actually beat Auburn. I don't want to see the day when there are three or four teams from the same conference in the 4 team CFP.

Leaving it ALL up to the commitee can result in too much bias. However, if they are forced to take the P5 Conference Champions and a +1 from the Group of Five... then the only thing they will control is the ranking of those six teams. They could use their ranking to decide the matchups: could be 1 & 2 get a bye, while 3 plays 6 and 4 plays 5 to determine who will match up against 1 and 2 the following week. I don't care how the matchups work out.

I just don't care for one conference being the favorite of the one station (ESPN) that has a lot of pull when it comes to College Football. If things keep going the way they are, there will be one power conference, a group of four mid majors, and then the group of five. Put the P5 conferences on level footing when it comes to the playoff, and it just might be enough to push back against ESPN's love for the SEC ensuring that conference's ever growing dominance.

Brian Cook = Awesome

Brian, you sir are the best part about MGoBlog. I thoroughly enjoy 99% of what you write, and find myslef agreeing with you at least 90% of the time. Thank you for reigning-in when needed, and banning as necessary. As this year is drawing towards its close, I just want to say how thankful I am for you.

Much like the kids playing this sport we all love so much, there are a lot of kids that need some parenting on this site. I'm sorry that you and your employees have to police what is posted here, but I suppose it comes with the territory. Harmony will prevail with your even handed response.

I too feel quite terrible for the anguish that John O'Korn must be going through. Even if he was a key part in some of the loses this year, I think we should all gratefully acknowledge the work he put in as a player at the University we all love. Much like the scout team reports of one Dylan McCaffrey for this season, it was John O'Korn that helped prepare the team in previous seasons. Certainly those practice reports were the reason why so many expected John to start in 2016, instead of Wilton Speight.

Hopefully those who take every loss so heavily will quickly learn to not put so much stock into a game played by kids. They deceive themselves by storing up their tresures is something so trivial. There is surely something better that everyone should look to for their inspiration and to place their trust in.

Next years starting O-line could be all Juniors

The starting O-Line could be all Juniors next year:

LT - Grant Newsome - JR*
LG - Ben Bedeson - JR (wonder if they'll ever move him out to Tackle)
C - Jon Runyan Jr - JR* (this could be Ruiz's spot next year)
RG - Mike Onwenu - JR
RT - Nolan Ulizio - JR* (sure hope he performs OK this weekend)

With possible solid backup Sophmores if they get some time this year:
G - Stephen Spanellis
C - Cesar Ruiz

And a bunch of redshirt Freshmen ready to compete. The future is bright! Tackle remains the only concern in regards to depth next year.

I'm not so sure how this year will work out (especially w/ a young secondary to go with our young O-Line). If this year's O-Line does hold up OK, and if Newsome comes back healthy... next year should be AWESOME!!! Especially with all the other talent that will return.

Strange After Zordich's Q&A saying that the job is still open, the timing of this is so strange. Please no repeat of the never forget years
Notre Dame

I love seeing Michigan beat the Fighting Irish. I miss seeing them on the schedule.

It would be best if B. Kelly turned purple while the Michigan defense was obliterating his offense!!! Can't get enough of those good old fashioned Notre Dame beatdowns!!!

Everyone! I would like everyone on the road to be in autonomous vehicles, with one exception... ME! It will be like all those video games where I get used to what the AI will do, and I can just zoom right around. Besides, everyone on the road other than me is a moron. They need a computer to drive for them. /s I look forward to autonomous vehicles so I can drink while riding. The reduction of vehicular homicide will have a major impact on US population growth
I wanted Rage Stripping

Should be in the final four with Grinchbaugh. Not a fan of Well OK.

Exactly

Grinch had so many votes. Should've made it into the final four to compete somehow.

Badger Fan University of Wisconsin fan at my workplace was trying to talk me into buying some bratwursts online from WI. He knew I was a Michigan fan (obv.) and asked me if I read "that crazy MGO Michigan blog". I still am thankful for meeting that sausage lover! No I didn't partake in the online meat
The Lumberyard

I hit up the Lumberyard a few times on gameday. There are usually quite a few Michigan fans there, and during the big games they sing Hail to the Victors after touchdowns!

http://lumberyard101.com/

It is a very quick fake

You will notice that after receiving the snap, Gardner fakes the bubble screen to the receiver in the flat. Thus, the Borges troll. I caught it live during the game and about died from laughter.

I'll have to agree with Delany

Sure I'll be sad that we aren't getting the 5* recruits any more, and perhaps the talent will take longer to develop. However, I just can't get on the "pay these kids" bandwagon. College is expensive, so is room & board, as well as the training facilities, etc. The entitlement culture could certainly ruin college football. I'm glad this is they tone set by the Big Ten commisioner.

Hockey and Baseball are the two sports that come to my mind regarding kids being drafted out of high school and having the ability to choose to go to college or sign with a semi-pro team that will get them ready for the big leagues. Basketball is still trying to find its way... I suspect Football will probably be like Basketball is today in 5 years.

SNYHD - 639

639 (SNYHD) SportsNet New York HD:

http://www.directv.com/sports/sports_pack

It might get blacked out... will have to see on Saturday. If so, there is always the one day GameDay purchase.

Not 396 - ABC East

The Sports Pack is mostly the 600 digit channels like Fox Sports. The channel I see the game playing on that prompted me to purchase the Sport Pack right away is 639 (SNYHD) SportsNet New York HD:

http://www.directv.com/sports/sports_pack

My only worry is that I'll have to purchase the one day GamePlan showing of the Michigan game for $35 anyway. I know that Pro sports are usually blacked out on these Sports Pack channels, though "some" college games are available regardless. I'll see how it shakes out on Saturday.

I was going to purchase the Sports Pack anyway since the Red Wings season has started. I always record the replays of the games (again, live games are blacked out) and only watch them if the Wings won.

ABC NYC

While this channel is listed on my guide, I can't watch it. I live in AZ. How are you able to get it?

I have DirecTV

While I have the Ultimate package, it does not include ABC East (I live in Phoenix and due to law I cannot view that channel since I have a local ABC channel). Therefore, I added the Sports Pack Premium Channels... that way I not only get to watch Michigan defeat Conneticut, I also get to watch the rebroadcast of Red Wings games on Fox Sports Detroit. WOO, my favoirte time of year! I love having DirecTV.

My thoughts exactly

If you are releasing guys downfield before the punt is away, then they aren't back there blocking for your punter.

No matter how your guys line up (old school or new school), they need to block until they hear the thump from the punters foot and then stay in their lanes down the field to make the tackle. Don't do that... you are asking for it.

Defense

I just want to see the D Line get some sacks. I'm going to get really tired of all the talk about how bad a job the D Line is doing if they go through another week without much production.

I'd also like to see Ross making some plays. I really wanted him to make that interception agains ND last Saturday.

If they get a shutout, that would be great too. However, I'm not going to count on it since I fully expect a lot of the young guys will be playing due to the big lead.

Correct

Borges and Hoke refer to it as NASCAR

When I watched it live

I thought he jumped higher than that during the game. LOL

Shaun Rogers who once played for the Lions was able to dunk the ball during the early part of his career. No joke:

http://www.aolnews.com/2008/04/10/shaun-rogers-is-relatively-thin-for-now/

Many ways to skin a cat

In your diagram above, I think that looks about right. It seems to me that it would be much more leathal if Funchess does indeed release downfield as a receiver. If the SAM crashes down in an attempt to tackle Fitz, then the next time you run this play you can instead use play action (believing the SAM will crash down again). If he realizes the ball was not handed to Fitz then perhaps Gardner can shake him and run for yardage, or if he does follow Funch or Fitz, Gardner could hit a different receiver or run. The way M was running that play gives you multiple ways to attack the defense.

During the ND game I was wondering about blocking assignments as well. I'm no expert, but I feel like Miller is a mobile lineman, why not move him around the two guards more?. I felt like the guards stood up OK when blocking Nix straight up. When they ran those outside zone runs, Nix would just hop in Miller's back pocket and crash through his gap. Especially at the end of the game when they ran the ball left twice in a row... Nix got two TFLs. It seemed impossible to me that Kalis was going to be able to manuever around Nix even with help from Miller. Why not have Glasgow crack back to the right on Nix and pull Miller around to pick up one of those blitzing LBs?  Doesn't matter since Gardner was able to run for the 1st to seal the game.

Disagree on blocked kicks

I recall Lloyd Carr mentioning something about Garret Rivas not getting the ball up high enough for his kicks, resulting in blocks early in his career. Sure, blocking is a huge part of kicking, but it is that way for all facets of football. You can have a wide open hole and a running back will still run into the backs of his OL.

I'm glad that Gibbons has turned it around. I feel confident in our kicking game going into this season. Can't wait for it to begin!!!

No to Bianco

Besides the fresh toppings, I find no value in this establishment. The dough is hard. Maybe I am just too hung up on Chicago style pizza... I like lots of toppings - including cheese.

Then again, you mentioned going to the spa... so obviously you and I probably will never agree on anything.

I'm also in Phoenix

Too bad you didn't ask BEFORE your time off. I highly recommend a couple days in Denver/Fort Collins/Boulder. So many breweries. Plenty of outdoor activities. A flight from Phoenix is not bad, and it sure is nice to get out of this heat.

You could always take a trip up north to the mountains to get out of the heat. Hang out in Sedona or Flagstaff if you need city streets and activities. Have you visited Canyon Lake, Saguaro Lake, or Lake Pleasant. I've rented boats out on Lake Pleasant plenty of times.

Since you are sunburnt, I'll skip the hiking spiel. So you are then left with indoor activities. Bowling, movies, try a new restaurant. Some of the museums around here can be entertaining.

As for me, I like beer. I highly recommend taking a cab to a location that has numerous beers on tap. I like the Hungry Monk in Chandler, the guy who runs it is from Livonia I believe. I also like Four Peaks brewery... they always have an interesting food special. Wednesdays they have cask conditioned ale, my favorite. I swear I'm going to get out to Ashley's in Ann Arbor next year.

I wish I had some extra time off. I feel like all I do is work. One of these days I am finally going to get out to Lake Havasu, down to Rocky Point, and out to Monument Valley.

Michigan wins Saturday

Book it!

Yeah, it's Friday

I'm drinking coffee... on my way into the office now.

Love this one

Well done all of you, but this one is my fav

I went with

Home of Ohio Scandal University

Add Another Bar in Southern Cal

I visited the Tavern at The Lumberyard in Encinitas, CA (North of San Diego) for The Game, 2011. Prices were a bit high, but they play The Victors after touchdowns and the whole bar sings along. It was a great experience, and I would recommend it to other fans. It is an Alumi Association meeting place.

TRANSCONTINENTAL!

With Denard?!?!?! Please let this happen at some point in his carrer at Michigan!

Girlfriend was worried there fore a bit, was ready to call 911

That was a hell of a game! I almost had a heart attack!!

Game was so exciting, I made my upstairs neighbor end up watching the game. That was one hell of a finish.

Thank you Mark May for talking to Borges at half and suggesting "Unleash Denard!!!". Although, I feel as if Denard was always unleashed, it was simply a matter of execution (recievers dropping balls and Denard off the mark). Can't wait for this UFR. That was one hell of a game!!!!

I LOVE MICHIGAN

Congratulations Brady Hoke. I love this TEAM!!! That was so amazing. My mind is BLOWN!!!!!!
