What in god's name makes people like you think John Harbaugh would give up his job and the nfl to coach Michigan? Because his brother and dad were Michigan guys? That's not a viable reason. Knock it off already.

What is this obsession with John Harbaugh? As if he's ever consider this job.
|4 days 14 hours ago||According to ESPN radio this||
According to ESPN radio this morning, M-Utah is the "prime" game in that time-slot -- meaning it's the one that most of the country will see on ABC. The secondary games will appear on ABC only in Big 12 and ACC country. So here's hoping you aren't in Oklahoma or Maryland.

Spoken like a true old white guy. Jeez. You do realize most Native Americans -- not to mention most people generally -- consider it an ugly slur?
|1 week 6 days ago||You could make this argument||
You could make this argument about any top-tier program. All coaches face intense, win-now exposure. In fact, I'd argue that most big programs are more cutthroat.
|1 week 6 days ago||Disgree. A top tier coach||
Disgree. A top tier coach comes to michigan partly BECAUSE the league sucks. Weaker competition makes it easier to reach the championship. This is partly why Meyer went to OSU. He gets all the resources and exposure of being a major big10 team while also getting a smoother path to the finals. That's why Michigan is a plum.

Um, because he's a tantrum-throwing, hair-gel-wearing redneck whose teams post lousy graduation rates. This isn't East Lansing, dude. Michigan does not want to represented by that yokel.

Remember, too, that Carroll's success brought with it degrees of sleaze and corruption that ultimately embarrassed and undermined the program. Classic Faustian bargain.
|2 weeks 13 hours ago||Yeah. We're anointing||
Yeah. We're anointing Sarkisian based on two games at USC? He definitely improved Washington, but not to the expected level of success for a historically strong program. He projects potential but remains an unproven commodity.
|2 weeks 13 hours ago||I could maybe see Strong or||
I could maybe see Strong or Sarkisian, but not Sumlin. His teams have had very poor academic showings at schools notorious for same. Hiring him would just look too mercenary for UM. And, although Strong himself seems like a solid citizen, Louisville's broad definition of "student-athlete" is somewhat notorious. But, hey, we've hired coaches from West Virginia, so...
I think Michigan will naturally look for another Beilein -- a highly respected, if not entirely flashy, veteran coach who's toiling at program that's somewhat beneath him, and who will never embarrass Michigan. He needn't be a Michigan guy. But he does need to be someone who represents what the school stands for. Granted, Beileins are few and far between. But they're out there. It is possible to have it both ways. If Stanford can do it, so can Michigan.
|2 weeks 14 hours ago||The short answer is:||
The short answer is: Michigan, given the level of its recruiting and resources, should be competing at a higher level. We should be a consistently Top 15 team. The longer answer is that Michigan does present a few more challenges for a prospective coach who's used to unfettered authority of the sort seen at Bama, A&M, OSU, etc. Those schools really are bottom-dwellers in terms of academic and ethical standards, and they'll do anything to win. Michigan will do a lot to win, and will come close to the bottom -- don't get me wrong -- but they won't oversign or push illiterate players through bogus classes.They won't negative-recruit. And they keep boosters at bay (post Ed Martin). Also Michigan still prioritizes the school over the football team. Guys like Saban or Meyer would not be good fits here. Their "styles" would rub the school the wrong way, and vice versa. Saban and Meyer would give us better football teams, but they would not necessarily be ideal representatives of UM.
|2 weeks 14 hours ago||Why does anyone have reason||
Why does anyone have reason to believe John Harbaugh would be interested in coaching at Michigan, and vice versa? Just because he grew up in AA and had relatives who played/coached at Michigan? Seems a stretch, especially since he's much admired in the NFL, where he'll have plenty of job offers should he leave the Ravens. We M fans tend to believe that everyone who's ever had some link to M would walk through the gates of hell to coach here. And that just ain't so.
|2 weeks 14 hours ago||I think the season record is||
I think the season record is 100 percent irrelevant, since the schedule is so weak. All that matters is how M fares in the three rivalry games (and, perhaps, a bowl game). Anybody could win 8 games with this schedule.
|2 weeks 15 hours ago||People keep yammering about||
People keep yammering about how the pool of coaching candidates will be woefully thin at year's end. But, really, nobody knows which coaches will be available at that time. Seasons get derailed; coaches get restless or resentful; money talks. By November, in all likelihood, a few more solid candidates will be available.
The trick is to just not wait until very late in the cycle before making the change, as Brandon did last time around. By the time he pulled the trigger, all the top candidates were off the board, and it was too late to reassemble a good recruiting class. (Yes, I realize he may well have been waiting on Harbaugh, who may well have gone back on his word to Brandon. But a good AD doesn't get left holding the bag.)

We also have two more very promising RBs (Isaac and Weber) on deck for next season. So we shouldn't worry that much about this position.

I recall the A-train being pretty darn impressive as a freshman -- although, granted, he ran behind a much better line. But still.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||Honestly, who gives a shit||
Honestly, who gives a shit about this stupid numbers? It's all become a giant vanity exercise -- one made all the more annoying by the team'd collective mediocrity. Worry about playing well. Then worry about who wears which fucking number.

Simple as that. No problem. Nevermind that Saban had zero reason to do this, and that Bama would match any offer.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||The real FG problem came on||
The real FG problem came on the first drive, when M's office was steamrolling down the field. Then, on 4th and a short 2, and after easily converting on previous fourth down, hoke decides to instead attempt a long FG with a kicker who has been very shaky. This play, coupled with the subsequent blocked FG, set a tone.

Thanks a lot. I didn't know that. Is the delay caused by TV network censors? Or is it just some sort of tech thing?
|2 weeks 1 day ago||Question: In terms of timing,||
In terms of timing, does the M radio broadcast tend to jibe with TV broadcasts? Ideally, I'd like to listen the M radio team (via Tunein.com) while watching the (muted, Irish-slappy) NBC broadcast. But I'm not sure whether delays will make this an exercise in frustration. Thanks.

I can add from experience that while Iowa fans are generally friendly, it's gross how openly and frequently their fans shout gay slurs at our fans and players. And nobody objects. Same at PSU. You'd think folks in and around a major university would be beyond such crap. It's sad and pathetic.
