all this length could make our zone defense stellar in the next few seasons.
michigan becomes elite again when they can be mostly consistent on the defensive end and force above average turnovers.
more points in transition, a stockade of shooters, yeah bud.

i plan on using the designator "Ann Arbor Spiketrotters" any time UM exceeds expectations for the rest of the year.

"The moment when everything was truly coming up Milhouse"
love the use of that reference
|2 weeks 2 days ago||beilein's in-game management||
I love having beilein as the coach of UM--i think his offense, when its clicking with players who have a grasp of it, is as fun any in the college ranks. as a strategist (halftime adjustments included) he is excellent. however, i'm growing frustrated with what is happening in real-time.
A) The Illinois game had examples of Beilein seemingly freezing on obvious momentum-stemming timeouts while the crowd was raging. Couple that with the fact beilein tends to draw up great timeout plays, I couldn't believe UM ultimately sat on a timeout in that game.
B) The auto-benching is absurd especially when you consider he will have players intentionally foul at the end of the first half. In that illinois game, dawkins at least intentionally picked up one of the fouls, thus landing him at two for the half. if that number is so taboo for beilein, why on earth would you intentionally call for that when you have such a limited bench and to my eye, it offers limited strategic advantage. theyre just gonna hold the ball for twenty seconds, and often, jack a three anyway, for pete's sake.
and to the state game, i missed the first half but checking the box score, i saw that bielfeldt tallied the most rebounds of anyone yet i didnt see him at all in the second half. the team seemed to be needing rebounds desperately. where was bielfeldt? IMO, he's the best big of the bunch.
|5 weeks 1 day ago||given the circumstances...||
let's just see what beilein can do when he's got a full lineup of guys with 2+ years of time in the program who are the most talented he's ever had with that kind of experience. I think we're looking at a polished, suffocating zone defense and a HIGHLY nuanced offense. I know it's fun to win but I would rather watch a squad like the one i just mentioned than a team that wins night in night out bc they're bigger, stronger, and faster than the opponent--i still think we'll win a whole heck of a lot of games....
in short, i am more a fan of wisconsin model than blue chip model. and the only caveat is beilein's brand of ball is wayyyy more fun than the space bug's.
|5 weeks 1 day ago||Lotta weird guys||
I know its an izzo lift but i would love an mgotshirt being #lottaweirdguys. Why? bc where izzo blames his losses on guys so far down the bench he doesnt even know their names beilein champions his weird guys and gets w's. Tourneyrun '15 will be fun!

would be great for maize rage to give a hearty 'moooooose' every time he gets a board
|6 weeks 1 day ago||how about lonergan?||
he won't be the best of this unproven lot but he looked to have some legitimate offensive skill in his brief time. I hope to see him get some more opportunities at the three spot.
I particularly like Dawk, Rahk, and Doyle just because of what they bring to the court mentally. Crucial for frosh.

game is about to start...ON TWITTER!
is the competition any tougher this game...i know the last game on friday will be a true test.
|30 weeks 2 days ago||beilein just out-beliein'd himself||
This kind of scholly offer is unprecedented--
previous D III guys to transfer were walk-ons with programs (GW and current-era Maryland) not as sucessful as UM.
That being said I am a big fan of this pick-up and I think 45% three point shooters who are 6'8'' are good to have around.
duncan robinson is the most 'basketball' name of all time
take that gordon hayward!
|36 weeks 2 days ago||this will bode well on the recruiting trail||
just the sound byte we had three first rounders selected last year, two years ago, etc is huge in assembling a MEGA class...could very well land us at least one blue chip in the next couple years that we wouldnt have gotten otherwise
|36 weeks 2 days ago||draw this piece||
the proposition of the game being a possession game is troubling because us sucks at holding the ball (ie the 94 minute of last game, lack of ticky-tocky skill) whereas they are better defending and then throwing numbers forward (run run run thank you jones and bradley). sidenote i read that it was bradley who logged the most miles in the game not jones, something like 7.3 miles...crazy.
i bet us gives up a goal early and as long as they dont give up two they can muster at least one cuz theyre merica and germany will be laying back--i think were creative enough.
really wanna see us play one MORE game where theyre going all out to win nothing more---not this play to draw flaptrap---ugh bradley
also the guy who didnt cover that last cross was also the guy who duffed up the first goal to portugal--geoff cameron that being said he has no chance of not starting---the conundrum of us soccer.
|41 weeks 4 days ago||gotta love hutch....||
making the university proud. classy as all heck and keeps her team composed and confident.
|43 weeks 12 hours ago||Solid, but what about the bigs?||
Was really liking that Zimmerman was looking at Mich as Beilein seemed to be looking more for that shot blocker type than charge drawer. I hope Donnal has a special year just to show other bigs it can be done.
Coleman just seems like a lock to go pro.
|43 weeks 1 day ago||if i could make an op...||
How about Michigan's fab five class?
PG - Muhammad Ali Abdur-Rahkman
SG - Aubrey Dawkins
SF - Kam Chatman
PF - DJ Wilson
C - Ricky Doyle/Mark Donnal(tech.)
That would be a serious wait-until-march kinda squad, yeah??
|44 weeks 5 days ago||hope he can play next year||
This guy looks like he has real nba-potential talent. Don't know the particulars about his class and what not but if he suited up next year this is a crazy good class. Amazing how things change in college bball recruiting. Props to the coaches for keeping their grind on.
|44 weeks 6 days ago||Chatman: 6'8'' 210+lbs||
Gotta say i breathed a sigh of relief seeing that. Averaging near 10 rebounds in a decent league shows he's willing to grind. walton, levert, irvin, chatman, and donnal to me is a highly skilled, balanced, and DANGEROUS starting five. I think UM is ready to exceed expectations yet again!
Yes they'll be miserable rebounding but they were miserable this year and their transcendent offense still made them formidable.
The offense next year will be a beilein masterpiece imo.

can 'lego mark emmert' become an mgothing?!?
|45 weeks 10 hours ago||exactly...||
How does the NCAA change the rule weeks after their judgement and not respond to an appeal?
They are essentially admitting to the rule's unfairness!!!
|45 weeks 10 hours ago||or maybe...||
Horford skipped town 4-foot bong in hand knowing the ncaa's vice-like grip on umich would only strengthen.
Sorry to make light of this situation...I am devastated by the news but I can't help but laugh at the NCAA.
Hoping the Daily jumps on this prime headline: "ITS A MITCH HUNT!"
|45 weeks 11 hours ago||nine times??||
if that is true that seems wildly unfair. Is this standard procedure? nine times?? I smell a mitch hunt! Sorry...This is so just so lame and just highlights the NCAA as more of a dinosaur than we already knew they were.
|45 weeks 4 days ago||I like both players||
Hoping Dawkins commits also. BUT, to me there's no way M doesnt bring in two blue chip wings in the '15 class. Rahkman being defensively attuned and a distributor will make him relevant regardless of future classes imo but Dawkins could get passed by future classes if he doesnt show promise next year. He best be getting into the gym and working on his spot up 3 game.
|45 weeks 5 days ago||rahkman||
intangibles are off the chart: name, winner, defender, chip on his shoulder(for getting limited D-1 attention), hard worker(judged by his quotes).
Think of the defensive power they'll have soon with Levert, Irvin, Walton, and now Rahkman guarding the perimeter!
getting ready for steals leading to breaks leading to Rahkman rocking the rim!
On a less positive note, I just hope they don't lose Coleman next year as they are similar players. That dude is B1G POY good.
|48 weeks 2 days ago||doyle = pau/marc gasol||
he's got a strong midrange shot(pau) and good strength(marc). Shorter than the gasols which could force him to get smarter with his game. Favorite move currently seems to be muscle, muscle, dunk. In the B1G those moves are likely getting swatted. Ricky Doyle is a +1 as far as names go. Let's hope Mich has the luxury to RS him like Donnal. Love the idea of the other two frosh getting some burn, though.
|48 weeks 2 days ago||dj wilson||
oooof, did you see dj wilson's highlight reel on umhoops? This guy is, at this point, your protoypical sleeper recruit for UM. If dude develops a decent jumper he should be everything grIII offers.

Is it fair to call him Michigan's best big since Juwan Howard? My apologies to my namesake...

"or so we think" (paraphrase) in regards to the you vs me paradigm is the tightest. Solid edited freewrite. Thank you, Jon. You are cool.
Hug in the championship game might have been the quintessential non-dunk related horford moment.
Thank you, Jon and the rest of the real recognizin real '13-'14 Cagers!

|51 weeks 4 days ago||Exactly||
Addition merely make the opponents have to gameplan for a factor both semi-unknown and undeniably reputable. Plus, he makes great passes and could be a boon for both O and D (rebounding, at least) in crucial spurts.
Michigan becomes the in-the-know favorite to win it all, imo. Except maybe for the Shockers.
