Evans is the real deal, but Smith was hurt in first or second quarter. They are very different backs and both will get the rock.

Knowing he'd be asked this question, I was hoping he'd be able to say he talked to Kaepernick about it. Guys like Calipari make a point to stay connected w/ their former players. And I think it helps their profile in the eyes of recruits. Then again, dude's probably busy.

What Vincent Smith is doing with #EATING is wonderful. Go Blue!

great passer, great teammate, that could be the breakout moment for him. i hope we can look at him now as a solid contributor to the team going forward.

call me crazy but i feel like lavall jordan could be a recruiting dynamo waiting in the wings. He's young, his tweets motivate the heck outta me. i imagine he would run something similar to what beilein runs/he's been assisting long enough to gain a strong grasp of the offense, anyway. and maybe, he could up the average star rating of our recruits....
|1 year 10 weeks ago||kam chatman||
he's been showing flashes of being able to rebound in the last few games. he's clearly a plus passer...i would love to see him have the light turn on during the big ten season.
this was delaware st i know but still....
|1 year 11 weeks ago||beilein was ahead of this||
beilein was ahead of this curve (see: pittsnogle) but youre starting to see the de mode centers in the nba as essentially bigs with wing man skill (see: porzingis and draymond). wagner has game very similar to porzingis who is all of a sudden birthing optimism for the knicks. similarly, i look at umich as a seriously dangerous team if wagner continues to progress by march. you're dealing with a lineup of five scorers who can pass it and interchange on the court--thus returning 'the beauty' to beilein's patented motion offense.

he sure is but rahk's got a great vertical and a tough demeanor, given the opportunity, im hoping he can provide the same capability

gosh dang i like his style

we're gonna need walton to score distribute and get some steals and rebounds if mich wins
|1 year 12 weeks ago||i would say all of the 5's||
i would say all of the 5's are not good defensively and likely to give up points or a foul anytime they have to defend one on one. the difference with wagner is he stays active and can at times be more of a positive force on the court--with his offense and active feet drawing charges--than a liability.
for me, his best attribute is his mentality. he's probably the most tenacious player on the team.
|1 year 12 weeks ago||jarrod wilson||
i also love wilson's no-nonsense demeanor on the field. he remains straight-faced on big plays in a world of defensive back hyperbole.
|1 year 13 weeks ago||beilfeldt could be held||
beilfeldt could be held accountable to box out. when you don't box out, you are gonna have a bad time.
|1 year 13 weeks ago||that game showed who should play||
caris is the guy and i would love seeing him play the point position to spell walton at times just to have length all over the court.
duncan robinson needs to to be in the top tier of minutes. he's making the right cuts and moving the offense well and beilein's offense only REALLY works when you have dead eye open three shooting---this dude. his defense is no more atrocious than dawkins' at this point.
i think the five should split minutes evenly between doyle-wagner-wilson till wagner establishes himself. not ready to give up on wilson yet.
irvin needs big minutes and he needs to draw fouls by getting in the paint somehow. he's brawny.
non-five subs in order of minutes earned: dawkins, chatman, rahkman
spike needs to get healthy, than he'll leapfrog rahkman.
|1 year 13 weeks ago||hoping we don't get destroyed in the paint...||
strong post presence and able drivers could yield a high-frustration quotient. that's my number one advanced metric affecting my game enjoyment rating.
my other favorite advanced metric is when michigan scores more three-pointers, we win!
|1 year 42 weeks ago||i hope bielfeldt returns||
i need my five to box out or i start yelling at electronic devices.
i think doyle needs one more year of being on a short leash as far as mental mistakes--particularly boxing out.
not boxing out is such an emotional nut punch for the whole team.
bielfeldt gets this and plants his danged calves into the ground with some conviction! And i thought he was good as far as ripping 50/50 rebounds down.
|1 year 42 weeks ago||his name. is moose.||
he goes by 'moose' amongst the team.
|1 year 47 weeks ago||fab five era maize||
to me, the fab five era maize will always be the quintessential michigan maize. those jerseys just looked so fly on the tv.
my brother and i have heated arguments about the state of the maize. he thinks the adidas maize bball jerseys are more 'hip' whereas i see them as a downright recruiting detriment. michigan merch sold so well during the fab five era and i think you can chalk it up to their being cultural harbingers but also the maize was jiving back then. the adidas maize to me is unwearable in social situations.
|1 year 51 weeks ago||yeah bud||
all this length could make our zone defense stellar in the next few seasons.
michigan becomes elite again when they can be mostly consistent on the defensive end and force above average turnovers.
more points in transition, a stockade of shooters, yeah bud.

i plan on using the designator "Ann Arbor Spiketrotters" any time UM exceeds expectations for the rest of the year.

"The moment when everything was truly coming up Milhouse"
love the use of that reference
|2 years 5 days ago||beilein's in-game management||
I love having beilein as the coach of UM--i think his offense, when its clicking with players who have a grasp of it, is as fun any in the college ranks. as a strategist (halftime adjustments included) he is excellent. however, i'm growing frustrated with what is happening in real-time.
A) The Illinois game had examples of Beilein seemingly freezing on obvious momentum-stemming timeouts while the crowd was raging. Couple that with the fact beilein tends to draw up great timeout plays, I couldn't believe UM ultimately sat on a timeout in that game.
B) The auto-benching is absurd especially when you consider he will have players intentionally foul at the end of the first half. In that illinois game, dawkins at least intentionally picked up one of the fouls, thus landing him at two for the half. if that number is so taboo for beilein, why on earth would you intentionally call for that when you have such a limited bench and to my eye, it offers limited strategic advantage. theyre just gonna hold the ball for twenty seconds, and often, jack a three anyway, for pete's sake.
and to the state game, i missed the first half but checking the box score, i saw that bielfeldt tallied the most rebounds of anyone yet i didnt see him at all in the second half. the team seemed to be needing rebounds desperately. where was bielfeldt? IMO, he's the best big of the bunch.
|2 years 3 weeks ago||given the circumstances...||
let's just see what beilein can do when he's got a full lineup of guys with 2+ years of time in the program who are the most talented he's ever had with that kind of experience. I think we're looking at a polished, suffocating zone defense and a HIGHLY nuanced offense. I know it's fun to win but I would rather watch a squad like the one i just mentioned than a team that wins night in night out bc they're bigger, stronger, and faster than the opponent--i still think we'll win a whole heck of a lot of games....
in short, i am more a fan of wisconsin model than blue chip model. and the only caveat is beilein's brand of ball is wayyyy more fun than the space bug's.
|2 years 3 weeks ago||Lotta weird guys||
I know its an izzo lift but i would love an mgotshirt being #lottaweirdguys. Why? bc where izzo blames his losses on guys so far down the bench he doesnt even know their names beilein champions his weird guys and gets w's. Tourneyrun '15 will be fun!
|2 years 3 weeks ago||if his nickname is moose...||
would be great for maize rage to give a hearty 'moooooose' every time he gets a board
|2 years 4 weeks ago||how about lonergan?||
he won't be the best of this unproven lot but he looked to have some legitimate offensive skill in his brief time. I hope to see him get some more opportunities at the three spot.
I particularly like Dawk, Rahk, and Doyle just because of what they bring to the court mentally. Crucial for frosh.
