|2 days 6 hours ago||Dont sell to rival fans||
I have heard this a ton over the past several years both here and in the national media and my question is always "how do you know who you're selling to?" Unless you only sell through forums like this one (thereby severely limiting the exposure your tickets have to potential buyers) you have no way of knowing if your selling to an opposing fan or not.
What's sad, IMO, is that many times opposing fan bases value the ticket higher than we do and win the open bids. I dont think it's fair to somebody who paid for tickets to tell them you have to take less money from a Michigan fan than somebody else would offer you.
IMO if you're writing the check to buy the tickets nobody can tell you where you're allowed to sell them if you cant go. And if you post on Stubhub, Flashseats or any other blind ticket portal you have zero ability to know what type of fan is buying them.
|3 days 4 hours ago||100% agree||
But remember - this is also the same group of players that for YEARS was somehow convinced that it was in their best interest to have unfettered rookie contracts even though they reduced the total dollars available to be spent. How nobody in the NFLPA could figure out that giving huge contracts to rookies (basically people not yet in their "club") could possibly benefit themselves (people already in the club) when dollars were limited by a cap was beyond me.
I had a friend who retired in the late 80s from the NFL and I asked him about that once and he just laughed and said players basically do/vote whatever their agents tell them to do and nothing lines the pockets of agents more than unregulated rookie contracts.
If you want evidence that the average IQ of players in the NFL is somewhere short of Mensa there it is.
|3 days 4 hours ago||Love Tom but he aint gonna win IMO||
This isnt an issue of right vs wrong or if the NFL had sufficient evidence to suspend him. The issue is did Godell have the authority to suspend Brady and based on the collective bargaining agreement between the NFL and the NFLPA he did. He was given unfettered powers to be judge, jury and executioner along with being his own appeals court.
There are third world country dictators who wield less power. Blame the NFLPA leadership for being stupid enough to agree to this structure and the players themselves for being stupid enough to ratify it.

Like long-haul truckers the NCAA has a minimum number of hours assistant coaches must sleep per week. Pretty sure the Australia trip put us over the limit.

Especially since the Cavs had Dahtnay Jones suspended for game 4 of our series for a MUCH lesser offense IMO.
Let's see if the NBA has the "balls" (so to speak) to apply equal punishment for the same crime. I'm betting they won't. They desparately want a Warriors/Cavs rematch.
|3 days 7 hours ago||I actually dont think he did it on purpose||
I cannot stand Draymond Green and as a die-hard Cavs fan would MUCH rather face OKC than the Warriors in the finals BUT I do think he was just "selling the foul" rather than trying to kick Adams in the balls.

LeBron is 16-4 lifetime against Durant and 7-0 as a Cav. I think he would very much like to play against KD if given the choice.

Nice myth but untrue this year. Historically LeBron got to the line 2.4 times in the playoffs for every 5 shot attempts. Which is high but the guy drives so he's taking contact. This year it's down to .06 foul shots per 5 shots which is the lowest it's ever been.
He's getting mauled, smacked on the head and hit hard with no calls. The NBA loves Steph Curry (he's sooooo CUTE) and his absolutely adorable children these days.
|1 week 2 days ago||YES||
I cannot stand Curry. I hate the way he sticks that damn mouthguard out after every shot. I hate the way he showboats and turns up court after shooting. I hate that Draymond Green has a different set of rules than everyone else and is allowed to CONSTANTLY set moving screens to get Curry open looks and I hate that if anyone breathes on him the officials call a flagrant two cause he's the darling child of the NBA.

The douchey self-serving stuff will all go with DB in my opinion. They're his personal touches to the home and will undoubtably follow him to Ever After (the sequel). And my guess is he got the house taken care of in his relocation package with Toys R Us so if somebody doesnt buy it for close to what he's asking - his new company will at a much lower price.
If he's got that as part of his contract (and most executives do) then starting insanely high is smart. He doesnt have any bottom end concerns over selling it (that's Toys R Us problem) so might as well see if somebody falls in love with it and is willing to overpay.

So now I just call them up every 5 months and say I want the $20 rate or they can cancel my service and I'll wait for the coupon. Because you're dealing with offshore phone operators they HATE that (hurts their bonus) but they hate having a cancellation even more so I get it everytime.
Reduced my cost of XM from $169 to about $50 a year.

Two words: Nick Anderson.
Four missed free throws with under 10 seconds to go with his team up 3. All he has to do is hit ONE and the game is basically over. But Anderson, a 74% free throw shooter for the year, misses all four and Houston - who had been down 20 - ties the game up and wins in OT.
The franchise has literally never been the same since. They lost the next three games and never (Dwight Howard years as minor exception) looked the same since.
Amazing that one play can change things so dramatically. But it did.

Look at your voting totals and how they decrease as you move through the the selections. My guess would be voters are stopping midway through because the format you selected (forcing the voter to view the voting reults individually each time after each vote and not once as a summary when they are done) is VERY time-consuming. I know I started scrolling to see how much longer this was going to take.
You might want to go into the setting of your survey engine and change that. Would make filling out the selections a LOT faster for whatever that's worth.

Brights Grove had a small marina off of Perch Creek with a breakwall that we used to fish off of. Two things I found pretty surprsing about the vote
1. That all three Cleveland sportswriters with votes voted Steph #1. Say what you will about people being homers but give those guys credit for not playing favorites to kiss up to LeBron.
2. That somebody actually voted James "I refuse to play defense" Harden #3 on their ballot. That dude is a flat out cancer on any team and all he wants to do is score the basketball - period. I mean - seriously....this guy as #3 in the league? Kevin Love laughs at his defense.

One problem - it wasnt Campy Russell - it was Phil Hubbard. So he immediately says "I'm not Campy - I'm Phil". I tried to get out of the situation by reminding him that he and I had sung the Victors last year walking into one of the games but all he kept saying is "I'm Phil, not Campy".

Wouldn't your concerns apply for both teams in a season opener - regardless of the relative strength of the opponent? Meaning that both teams face an equal risk of players getting into trouble so there's no inherent greater risk for team A or team B. You are just as likely to face a weakened opponent (because their players got in trouble in the off-season) as you are to be weakened yourself. The season opener (if the other team got in trouble) could be the absolute BEST time to play a strong opponent.
I don't think your reasoning holds.

|4 weeks 2 days ago||Corruption & Graft vs Stupidity||
I said it the day it was announced and I'll keep saying it. People dont vote against their own self-interests because they are stupid. They vote against their self interests because they are paid to do so making their actual "self interests" different than we are privy to.
I knew something was seriously corrupt when conferences who would stand to benefit from the camps voted to kill them. And an investigation by the DOJ will bear this out I believe. When you've been getting away with this sort of thing as long as the NCAA has you have no reason to worry about being caught so you get sloppy and stop covering your tracks.
My guess is it wouldnt take too many searches of Emmert or Sankey emails to find the smoking gun. Promises were made, money changed hands and the vote was completed.

|4 weeks 3 days ago||"But there's no way to remove Red against his will"||
I certainly read a LOT of comments on this board about schools like Penn State, Florida State, Texas and others keeping head coaches on well past their expiration date and the consequences that brought to their respective programs. Why is this different?
I get all he has done for the program and I get he is a legend's legend but if he's hurting the program (and this not saying he is or isnt) why cant he be removed against his will?
Serious question though - is Red actually the best option we have right now? If Mel Pearson doesnt want to come back for whatever reason then is Red our best choice for next year - regardless of age?
I admidtly am not a huge hockey fan like many on the board but my next door neighboor at my cottage on Middle Bass Island is an assistant hockey coach at Michigan Dearborn and according to him Red lost connection to the team years ago and is just going through the coaching motions on muscle memory more than anything else.

I do remember one day finally having the courage to actually say something and by then I had completely forgotten my original user name so I created MgrowOld (seemed appropriate) and made a comment. I also remember it was kinda scary not knowing how that comment would be recieved by others but I've obviously gotten over that fear.

PLENTY of first round QBs are assholes - winning Miss Congeniality is not a prerequsit for being selected high in the draft.

|5 weeks 1 day ago||BINGO!||
What is being completely overlooked in all the discussion over how necessary a "Franchise QB" is to a team's success is that the last two Super Bowl teams didnt have one. Manning sucked last year and was a shell of himself and Russell Wilson, God love him, is good but not great.
The model might be changing right in front of us but people are missing it. Wouldnt it be something if the boys running analytics and being made fun of across the NFL right now havent figured that out.
|5 weeks 1 day ago||I love this||
If you dont think Wentz is a franchise QB (and the Browns obviously don't) then you've gotten a shit-ton of assets for just moving back 6 spots. And you get another #1 next year from an Eagles team I'm not convinced is going to be that wonderful so that pick could be high as well.
And for whatever reason RGIII, who only three years ago was the NFL rookie of the year and the product of one of these types of trades, is only 25 so it's not like he's over the hill if Jackson can work with him.
By the way - reports from EVERYBODY watching practice yesterday were the same. More real coaching going on during day #1 than anybody saw ever from the last three regimes combined. Hue Jackson is going to be very, very good IMO.
He kinda reminds me of a certain coach in AA for that matter.

Nobody knows who or what the Browns like right now. There has been as much talk about Goff as Wentz from the NFL Insiders as well as Grossi & Mary Kay Cabbot. And for all the QB talk there is just as much discussion about picking best available athlete or trading down. False flags everywhere.
The best news for us Browns fans is that this trade happened now. As somebody on Twitter said this morning "It's like your neighbor's house just sold for 100K over the asking price and yours is the only other house for sale on the street."

I would like to know why the possibility of graft is not more roundly considered/discussed. The sheer fact that ANY conference outside of the ACC/SEC would support this decision screams of payola to me. Think about it - outside of the few California schools the rest of the PAC 12 should be supporitng these camps and they vote no. The Big 12 votes no as does the MWC and the Sunbelt for reasons currently unknown Why would these conferences vote against something that could benefit them UNLESS money was changing hands?
Back when FIFA selected Russia and Qatar for the World Cup everybody talked about how "stupid" they were too. But they weren't stupid at all - they were thiefs and they were voting as they were paid to vote. My guess is we'll find out someday that this vote (like many of the NCAA's investigations or more importantly non-investigations) was bought and paid for.
Bag men dont' just pay off players IMO.

The picture of Leach is from the 78 Rose Bowl. And that was one of the most heartbreaking games I've ever watched. We were #1 much of the year with only a loss to Minnesota screwing up a perfect season so we had an outside shot at the MNC. And we were a heavy favorite over Washington only to fall behind 24-0 before starting what looked to be an amazing comeback that fell JUST short when a sure TD pass was juggled by Braylon's dad Stan Edwards and then intercepted off Ewards back on the goal line.
Fuck Warren Moon by the way.
|6 weeks 5 days ago||Exercise ever day||
Have a Fitbit and get 10K steps or better daily. Lift twice a week (would like do it more often but work lately has prevented that) and do cardio the other five days. Alternate running for a minute and then power walking for a minute for an hour which is usually good for about 10K steps all on its own on treadmill or walk around neignboor hood till I hit 10K. Wish I could run longer but the combination of 25 years of smoking plus whooping cough as a baby wiped out my lung capacity.
Side note - do any of the other old guys here put on weight every winter regardless of your excercise/eating? Each year I float up about 20 pounds between November and March and every year I lose it between April and June.
Some of you guys may have noticed my wife is sort of into working out so it's DEFINITELY a priority in our house.

The NCAA has 0.0% interest in doing anything that might disrupt the hegemony that the SEC enjoys over the rest of college football and these camps present an obvious incursion onto their turf. If anybody is shocked that the same organization who consistently and willfully turns a blind eye to recruiting payola in the SEC wants to stop camps that level the playing field just a bit they simply arent paying very close attention.
I'll make a side bet here. When all is said and done, sometime in the next 10 years we're going to find out that corruption and payoffs a-la FIFA are going on with many key officials in the NCAA They cant be that stupid and still remain alive (they'd forget to eat, breath and poop if they were) so they must be crooks.
|7 weeks 1 day ago||It depends on the post and the poster IMO||
I've found that people who post generally positive comments or information get corrected less than people bitching about something. Also, I think once people have been around here for a while and others get to know you a bit there is a bit more grace extended when obvious typing errors are made.
But at the end of the day I find the people who get pissed over being correct funnier than the people doing the correcting. I mean if I got mad every time i got flagged for a you're instead of your or a there instead of their I'd spend all day being upset. It's a "my bad" and move on.
|7 weeks 1 day ago||Some credit to Hoke for this IMO||
As thrilled as I was to see Hoke let go and as much crap as he takes here on the board I do think the fact that Harbaugh is ahead of schedule is at least somewhat thanks to the cupboard NOT being bare when he took over. There was definitely talent here, albiet hopelessly undercoached and underdeveloped, but it's not like Jimmy achieved 10-3 last year with pixie dust and magic beans.
Hoke failed at a lot of things but recruiting, for the most part (outside of quarterbacks), was not one of them.

Based on your comments I'm guessing you fall into one of four categories:
1. You really HATE NC. You could be a Duke or NC State grad.
2. You went to Nova. A graduate would see the game as you're seeing it.
3. You've got Nova in your brackets and need them to win.
4. You bet a LOT of money on Nova.
Personally I'm guessing #4 but please share which one. We all want to know.

But that means only 2 out of 13 of the alleged best player in college football turned into NFL stars. And those two are still pretty early so it's hard to put them solidly in the win collumn just yet.
I will say however that hitting on 2 of 13 is better than my Browns do at 1st round draft picks so I guess it's not the worst selection I've seen.

|7 weeks 6 days ago||Close but wrong||
I own a company and have all my employees sign non-competes and have been sued by ex-employees when trying to enforce the non-compete several times. I can tell you the courts are pretty damn consistent across the country in this regard:
1. Employee quits or forces termination through behavior considered to be under the "cause for dismissal" (theft, no-show, gross malfeasance, etc): Non compete enforceable
2. Employee is terminated for anything not relating to cause (poor performance, better candidate available, reduction of comp, etc): Non compete NOT enforceable.
Spike clearly falls into category #2 and as such would have his non-compete tossed in a nano-second.
|7 weeks 6 days ago||Good!||
He got hammered this morning on Mike and Mike over the stance starting at 7:30 and continuing through the 7:45 break. Then they tweeted out the rant to a shit-ton of people. Not that it matters what they think but I happen to agree with them that it's bullshit to tell a player you have no room on the roster for them but then turn around and restrict where they can go play.
IMO if this was happening anywhere else in the country we would be losing our collectiive shit over it but because it's Michigan we've got our Maize n Blue colored glasses on and think it's ok. Well it's not ok and I'm glad Beilein finally saw that and made the change.
This is pretty simple IMO. If the player requests a transfer (and we want them) we can restrict where they go. But if player WANTS to play for a school and the school says "thanks but no thank" then they can go wherever in the Hell they want to.
I assure you that there isnt one person on this board that would be ok with getting fired from a job and then having your ex-boss tell you where you can go to work next.

My partner used to have all our employees sign pretty restrictive non-competes when we hired them and then he used to try and enforce them after we fired them! That worked out ok until one day an ex-employee took us to court to sue for damages and we lost BIG. The judge said you cant have your cake and eat it too - either you want them to work for you or you dont, and if you dont you cant restrict where they get to work afterwards.
Or if my ex-wife tried to tell me who I could date after she left me for another dude. I dont think I'd go for that much.
Sorry but it's wrong. Spike wants to play for Michigan and we dont want him. At that point we forfeit, IMO, the right to control where he gets to play next. Don't like it coach B? Put him back on your roster.
