| 9 hours 31 min ago | So I'm guessing you have a really fat team. |
Cheating isn't winning, it's cheating, so it's a non-sequitur. And while there are certain things that are as important as winning, you don't really get to do any of them if you don't win too. Because you get fired. Hoke loves it because he gets to mold young men; that's why he's not coaching pros. But you can bet he's competitive, because that's why he's coaching at Michigan and not high school or pee wee. He's not afraid to call last season a shitty season. Because they didn't meet their goals. Every year they set goals of winning championships. That doesn't mean they can control what other teams do. They're just not into moral victories. That's why they're where they're at, and you're where you're at. |
| 10 hours 50 sec ago | How can it be the best Star Trek |
When there is no actual trekking? Still, Hawk as a captain WAS bad-ass. |
| 12 hours 52 min ago | It wasn't that bad. |
It just got screwed when Winoa Ryder had to drop out and he cast his daughter instead (who is a much better director than actress). |
| 12 hours 56 min ago | Uhm, yeah....academic research lab...that's it.... |
|
| 12 hours 58 min ago | So your team doesn't have to make weight? |
Just so long as you try hard and maybe get close, that's good enough? You shouldn't be afraid of losing. But you should hate it and do anything possible to avoid it. If anything it sounds like just trying your best is afraid of losing, because you won't set any standards of "winning." As long as you did your best, you won. That's being afraid of losing. But you have the whole thing off kilter. If you actually achieve you don't do it to get awards, you do it to be the best and the awards and accolades will come. There are no awards handed out for trying hard. If only they gave points for heart. |
| 13 hours 6 min ago | Now you're just making things up. |
Denard and Mallett is a wash. Mallett went way higher in the draft, and was drafted as a QB. Saying one was going to have more success than the other is folly. And that 5* back up was in no way ready to show he was ready to play QB in 2011. If he had come in we'd have been hosed. You can judge how good our O-line was this last year to determine how many quality starters we had. In 2008 we could have had Schilling, Molk, Boren who were All Big Ten type players, and Mitchell, Ortmann, and Moseman would have filled out that line fine. Countess was a true freshman and only started like half the season. Kovacs is really good for what he is, but not a great argument for depth. And it parallels your description of the linebackers well, since Obi Ezeh got worse under Rich Rod, and ignores Jonas Mouton, who was a second round pick....far higher than any of the defenders on that 2011 team have went. Face it, 2008 had the talent to be an above average defense. The fact that they were awful compared to any team other than 2009 and 2010 was the problem. And a coach who didn't feel obliged to run option Nick Sheridan could have done better than 3-9. Which is all Magnus was saying. (Of course, the thing is, no one believes we would have gone 11-2 with the prior defensive coaches anyway. Or they'd still be here). |
| 13 hours 32 min ago | I'd rather rotate than take any of those teams every year. |
But to play along, I'd probably go with Stanford. Like institutions, across the country. Not sure I'd want to reward an every year battle to someone in the SEC, and when I think USC I think Rose Bowl. I guess we could play Stanford twice, as we've played them in Rose Bowls and it even happened once with UCLA, but everything else Stanford brings to the table would let me excuse it. Texas would probably want a 2 for 1 or something demanding and ridiculous like they always do, and no one else really excites me. Really, someone like Nebraska or Penn State would have been a good replacement before they joined the conference. How about Duke? If they won't play us in basketball anymore.... |
| 13 hours 37 min ago | Didn't get a chance to see it |
But everyone says that Olympus has Fallen is what the latest Die Hard movie should have been. |
| 13 hours 39 min ago | I finally figured out what you were trying to do |
That wouldn't show up.
Helen Hunt was in that too? |
| 13 hours 45 min ago | Star Wars is science fantasy. |
It's more mythological arch-types than Bradbury. But Star Trek attempts to be real, but barely. I'm not sure I see the difference between Warp Speed and Hyperspace. And try scientifically explaining how a transporter is going to work in 200 years. They just needed a cheap way to get people from ship to planet without a lot of expensive shuttle models. |
| 13 hours 48 min ago | Watch the last four seasons of DS9 |
Is there a reason you're punishing him? It was first...I'm not sure if it's formost....you realize the only reason there was a television series of any kind after the first one was because of the movies? |
| 13 hours 50 min ago | Iron Man was not a much better movie. |
I have one word for you: Mandarin. |
| 13 hours 55 min ago | It sounds like you're preparing a plan for when you fail |
Rather than planning to succeed. I don't want someone who's happy with just the best that life gives them. I want someone who's always striving for more, and can always be better. "Be the best you can be" is for five year olds. You have to be willing to put in the action and effort to obtain the results, but as was said, you have to have that goal to know when you've obtained them. Just hoping for the best is a loser mentality. And this kid doesn't want a participation trophy. I, for one, like that. |
| 14 hours 8 min ago | You realize you could write all this: |
And be talking about an 11 win team, right? |
| 14 hours 51 min ago | Didn't notice till the "Notes" portion of the overview |
But his parents must have been big Octopussy fans. |
| 15 hours 33 min ago | You forgot Generations. |
I mean, they killed Kirk because he was too fat to hold on. Great way to end a classic character. I mean, aren't all the movies basically action movie spectacles, because they're, you know, movies? (Other than The Motion Picture...and as you wisely point out, that's not a good thing). People forget the Original Series was sold and done as "Wagon Train to the Stars." The fact that there was smart tv in addition to adventure is what made it great. I'm just glad they found a way to get back to those original characters, and not give us the latest crew of the latest lesser version of the Enterprise. And they knocked the ball out of the park with casting such iconic character portrayals. |
| 15 hours 44 min ago | So in high school being mediocre is a quality goal? |
Of ALL times in your life is when you should be hoping, dreaming, and hopefully working to achieve greatness. I don't really want to be around people who strive to be average. |
| 15 hours 46 min ago | Wasn't just the competition. |
Marcus Ray and Sam Webb have told the story a half dozen times leading into the Mott takeover of how when Woodson was a freshman Amani Toomer was an upperclassman and on one play in practice gave Charles an elbow to keep the freshman in his place and the next play Woodson comes back and sticks it to Amani, and they end up fighting. One of those coaching moments for Lloyd where you're going "ok, ok, break it up!" but thinking "Hey, I may have something here....!" Considering Hoke wants his teams "Tough" more than anything else, I don't think it'll bother him too much. |
| 15 hours 51 min ago | I hope he completely mirrors the humbleness and talent |
Of Charles Woodson. You must have hated him. |
| 16 hours 52 sec ago | Woodson didn't start his first game either. |
And he was Charles Woodson. And he wasn't even really Charles Woodson till after the MSU game. That's when he stopped looking like a talented freshman. He was also beating out Woodrow Hankins and Tyrone Noble. |
| 16 hours 7 min ago | So from Dungeons and Dragons, to the Commodore 64 |
|
| 16 hours 21 min ago | Well, you don't want to make her angry |
But I didn't have a big problem with it because you'd have to put someone immediately on ice till you got them the blood (and not have any major parts blown off...he wasn't Wolverine), and would need to access a top secret storage installation somewhere off on earth. You might as well need to get saved by the Ark of the Covenant. It's not like you could go to the grocery store using trans-warp transporters...not everyone had access. The bigger question would be why they needed Khan's blood when you had 72 other ones on ice right there, but then do you really want to be experimenting to see if they all work the same under the gun? Of the two major movies with twists I found ST2 a lot more enjoyable than Iron Man 3's messing with things. |
| 16 hours 35 min ago | There was a time when Michigan and OSU said the wouldn't |
put the Big Ten patch on the uniforms. They caved. |
| 16 hours 37 min ago | You want a throwback uni |
Onesie? |
| 16 hours 44 min ago | Well, you can |
If you have the glasses.
|
| 17 hours 3 min ago | When you've done this, Jose, come talk to me. |
|
| 17 hours 18 min ago | Yeah, but if you cut off your little brother in law's finger |
You'd probably get over it. |
| 17 hours 19 min ago | How could BloodRayne possibly be worse |
Than BloodRayne 2? Or 3? |
| 17 hours 22 min ago | 90% of Adam Sandler's stuff is painful. |
But I admit I did catch it on cable for one reason.
Or two. |
| 17 hours 24 min ago | How did you know they were going to be bad |
If you didn't see them? I mean, you saw Hangover 3 as early as possible it seems....so you just heard the others were bad before you saw them? Sounds like a separate summer thread....what movies did you go to see that you expected to be good but ended up sucking. Edit: And yes, I saw Gigli. In the theater. It was hilarious. But not how they intended it to be. Walken's speech is classic. I completely lost it. As did the other 3 people in the theater. I yearn for MST3000. |
