| 3 hours 27 min ago | Well, since I never really noticed them |
I'd say "quiet." |
| 3 hours 28 min ago | I mean, he won three times vs. OSU |
But had almost nothing to do with them. Two years it was all about the defense, and the other it was all about the running back. And I wouldn't say his talent was that bad. He had a better career than Henson and probably Henne in the NFL. He did have a Hall of Fame dad. |
| 20 hours 37 min ago | When one said "I knew I'd get negged" |
What they're saying is "I know I'm being an asshole, but I'm going to do it anyway, because I know more than anybody else and really, it's for your own good." I see a difference between trashing a kid because I think I understand how his mind works because I read some quotes on a website and calling a grown man on the Internet a loser for doing so to some kid he's never met. I'll be a dick to that guy all day, every day. So here's some constructive criticism: if you're going to educate kids and quote debate etiquette, learn how to spell. And regardless of how you view it, I meant that constructively. |
| 20 hours 50 min ago | You're confusing the steps to get there |
With having those steps as goals and not having any others. He also says things like McCarron “can be maybe the best quarterback in the country next year.” How is that any different than a kid wanting to be the best cornerback? He also tells the team the day after they win that they're not national champions anymore. Sounds like goal setting to me. Big difference in the minutiae of the steps needed to be successful and setting goals that those steps should help you obtain. You claim one should only do the former, not both. |
| 1 day 3 hours ago | If I'm not fatter than your team |
You REALLY suck at your job. And if you don't think Nick Saban wasn't working the next day on winning another national championship....you know, setting a goal to be great...no, not great, the best....then you're kidding yourself. |
| 1 day 3 hours ago | Apparently part of the the success mantra at your school |
is "Whine like a little bitch." It's "flamebait" by the way. And no one wants to hear you complain about people negging you when you went through the thread and negged everyone who disagreed with you. (I mean, any number of people could have negged me....nobody negged BiSB for responding to you but you). You have no problem disrespecting a high school kid and making grand claims on his psychology, not your professional area, but then get sensitive when someone does it to you? Please. You started disrespecting others when you were telling them that "you just don't understand" and "it's simple" and making grand claims that everyone in the field agrees with you, and anyone else just isn't smart enough to get it. You keep mentioning what you do as if it makes you some kind of expert, so you open yourself up to judgement on what qualifies you to read into the psyche of a teenager you have never met. So here's a tip....don't bag on kids you don't know about things you're no expert on and act like anyone who disagrees with you is too stupid to get it, and maybe you won't open yourself up for the like in return. Because there are people on here who know a lot more about philosophy, psychology, and sports on here than you, but they're not waving their e-dick around and trashing recruits. |
| 1 day 4 hours ago | It wasn't that bad. |
It just got screwed when Winona Ryder had to drop out and he cast his daughter instead (who is a much better director than actress). |
| 1 day 4 hours ago | Brady. |
Yeah, it's easy now, but it's not really because of that. He lived in the apartment above mine when he was in college, so I was rooting for him then. Nice guy. And it wasn't easy at the time, because even though everyone loves him now, most people (particularly his first year starting) were screaming for Drew Henson to come in and replace him. Wasn't till a good way through his senior year that people started saying "just play Brady." And even after that I wasn't one who was going to say "Hall of Fame" I thought he was a real good college player who could be a career backup in the NFL. But I still don't think I've seen an offense as dangerous at Michigan as when we'd go four wideouts with him in the shotgun. Unstoppable (unless you snapped the ball to tacopants instead of Tom). |
| 1 day 4 hours ago | But if you're going to complain something isn't "Star Trek" |
Isn't this far more "not Star Trek?" Space, the Final Frontier...these are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise....etc. And that's another point you bring up....other than the Borg, after the Klingons, Romulans and TOS races, alien bad guys in the Next Generation were lame. |
| 1 day 4 hours ago | "way too common plot twist" |
How many movies are you seeing where people are meeting their future self? I won't get into ALL the problems with Iron Man 3 here, because no one cares, but if you're biggest problem with a movie is what happened in the movie before it, I'm not sure that really works as criticism. |
| 1 day 4 hours ago | Well, making stuff up like |
Denard had three years experience as a starter. When he had one. But saying things like there were two good lineman on the roster in 2008...when there were more before Rich got here. And we have an idea how Gardner would have performed, because every time he was on the field at that point, either in spring or in games, he was pretty awful. And though I love what he did, Kovacs was limited. I'd rather have Shazor. Kovacs was a good run defense tackler, but wasn't athletic enough to really cover anyone really good. Marlin Jackson agrees. And Countess isn't an "irrefutable fact" because if he had stepped up when called on, he'd have started from day 1, not halfway through the season. And while I think he's a good player, if you're comparing him to Woodson or Law, you're batshit crazy. If he's a Hall we've done really well, and I'm not sure he's that good. He'll be a fine starter, but he wasn't dominating as a freshman, just like you say Molk wasn't. I'm not saying that Ezeh or Mouton played well that year. In fact, you're making my case for me, because the whole point is that they would have performed better under different coaches. Because Ezeh did, and Mouton had a lot more talent than he got a chance to show (so did Mouton, but he played well enough that it doesn't show as much). Saying it was "mental" isn't only an assumption, but just a convenient absolution for bad coaching. You can say you're not talking about the defense, but you're talkilng about how well the team did. And the original point was that the offense would have been better, both in style and player retention, and the defense would have been a LOT better, you'd have had a significantly better team. One that if Lloyd Carr had stayed could have easily been 7-5, and even with a smooth transition could have been a 6-6 team. No one was saying it wasn't going to be a down year. But finding three or four more wins on that schedule isn't that hard (we lost to three teams with losing records). So you can have no doubt, but you'd be in the minority. |
| 1 day 4 hours ago | The site is high tech; it has a jackass meter. |
If you're one, you can't post a thread. |
| 1 day 5 hours ago | So you're saying paying for recruiting information |
Is like paying for porn? Maybe should have moderated this as "insightful." |
| 1 day 5 hours ago | This is a post that could |
This is a post that could only have come at 3:30 in the morning. |
| 1 day 5 hours ago | Well, except for |
That not losing to Ohio State part. |
| 1 day 5 hours ago | Not finding any NbN |
But there seems to be a ridiculous amount of Muppet rap videos out there.

|
| 1 day 8 hours ago | Think I figured out how to join in on the fun... | |
| 1 day 23 hours ago | So I'm guessing you have a really fat team. |
Cheating isn't winning, it's cheating, so it's a non-sequitur. And while there are certain things that are as important as winning, you don't really get to do any of them if you don't win too. Because you get fired. Hoke loves it because he gets to mold young men; that's why he's not coaching pros. But you can bet he's competitive, because that's why he's coaching at Michigan and not high school or pee wee. He's not afraid to call last season a shitty season. Because they didn't meet their goals. Every year they set goals of winning championships. That doesn't mean they can control what other teams do. They're just not into moral victories. That's why they're where they're at, and you're where you're at. |
| 2 days 21 min ago | How can it be the best Star Trek |
When there is no actual trekking? Still, Hawk as a captain WAS bad-ass. |
| 2 days 3 hours ago | Uhm, yeah....academic research lab...that's it.... |
|
| 2 days 3 hours ago | So your team doesn't have to make weight? |
Just so long as you try hard and maybe get close, that's good enough? You shouldn't be afraid of losing. But you should hate it and do anything possible to avoid it. If anything it sounds like just trying your best is afraid of losing, because you won't set any standards of "winning." As long as you did your best, you won. That's being afraid of losing. But you have the whole thing off kilter. If you actually achieve you don't do it to get awards, you do it to be the best and the awards and accolades will come. There are no awards handed out for trying hard. If only they gave points for heart. |
| 2 days 3 hours ago | Now you're just making things up. |
Denard and Mallett is a wash. Mallett went way higher in the draft, and was drafted as a QB. Saying one was going to have more success than the other is folly. And that 5* back up was in no way ready to show he was ready to play QB in 2011. If he had come in we'd have been hosed. You can judge how good our O-line was this last year to determine how many quality starters we had. In 2008 we could have had Schilling, Molk, Boren who were All Big Ten type players, and Mitchell, Ortmann, and Moseman would have filled out that line fine. Countess was a true freshman and only started like half the season. Kovacs is really good for what he is, but not a great argument for depth. And it parallels your description of the linebackers well, since Obi Ezeh got worse under Rich Rod, and ignores Jonas Mouton, who was a second round pick....far higher than any of the defenders on that 2011 team have went. Face it, 2008 had the talent to be an above average defense. The fact that they were awful compared to any team other than 2009 and 2010 was the problem. And a coach who didn't feel obliged to run option Nick Sheridan could have done better than 3-9. Which is all Magnus was saying. (Of course, the thing is, no one believes we would have gone 11-2 with the prior defensive coaches anyway. Or they'd still be here). |
| 2 days 3 hours ago | I'd rather rotate than take any of those teams every year. |
But to play along, I'd probably go with Stanford. Like institutions, across the country. Not sure I'd want to reward an every year battle to someone in the SEC, and when I think USC I think Rose Bowl. I guess we could play Stanford twice, as we've played them in Rose Bowls and it even happened once with UCLA, but everything else Stanford brings to the table would let me excuse it. Texas would probably want a 2 for 1 or something demanding and ridiculous like they always do, and no one else really excites me. Really, someone like Nebraska or Penn State would have been a good replacement before they joined the conference. How about Duke? If they won't play us in basketball anymore.... |
| 2 days 3 hours ago | Didn't get a chance to see it |
But everyone says that Olympus has Fallen is what the latest Die Hard movie should have been. |
| 2 days 3 hours ago | I finally figured out what you were trying to do |
That wouldn't show up.
Helen Hunt was in that too? |
| 2 days 4 hours ago | Star Wars is science fantasy. |
It's more mythological arch-types than Bradbury. But Star Trek attempts to be real, but barely. I'm not sure I see the difference between Warp Speed and Hyperspace. And try scientifically explaining how a transporter is going to work in 200 years. They just needed a cheap way to get people from ship to planet without a lot of expensive shuttle models. |
| 2 days 4 hours ago | Watch the last four seasons of DS9 |
Is there a reason you're punishing him? It was first...I'm not sure if it's formost....you realize the only reason there was a television series of any kind after the first one was because of the movies? |
| 2 days 4 hours ago | Iron Man was not a much better movie. |
I have one word for you: Mandarin. |
| 2 days 4 hours ago | It sounds like you're preparing a plan for when you fail |
Rather than planning to succeed. I don't want someone who's happy with just the best that life gives them. I want someone who's always striving for more, and can always be better. "Be the best you can be" is for five year olds. You have to be willing to put in the action and effort to obtain the results, but as was said, you have to have that goal to know when you've obtained them. Just hoping for the best is a loser mentality. And this kid doesn't want a participation trophy. I, for one, like that. |
