This won't hijack the thread b/c the following is not of sufficient interest to most but I would love to know if anyone has recently sent a child to Michigan to play on a team other than football or basketball. Do you get a partial sports scholarship, and if so, did Michigan find other scholarships to cover the balance? I'm sure it's case by case but it would be interesting to see if anyone has direct experience on same.

Yea, I'm aware of the generalizations. I thought you may have had specific insight into this particular case. Sark and his case doesn't seem like the typical small plaintiff against the big corp type of case. Anyway, thanks for the response.

Why do you think that his attorneys would not want removal to fed court?

I don't think that this is necessarily true. It depends on the terms of the contract.

Agree w/ your post, and to add to it, he is someone w/ options and will continue to have options (b/c I assume we will continue to be successful), and he decided to take a job in the same division of the same conference. People mock Maryland's recruiting ability but there are top talents every year in and around the DC area who are going to want to stay near home, and he is in prime position to negatively recruit against Harbaugh (as having been an insider to the program).

I agree with the good riddance part but going for two after every TD is a negative proposition. Otherwise, we should always do it.
|30 weeks 1 day ago||Wait, you think Tom Herman of||
Wait, you think Tom Herman of Houston would be a "home run" hire to replace Les Miles? Les has one of the strongest track records in all of college football. Tom Herman has been HC for one year. The flavor of the month type thinking w/ coaching hires has led to many a disaster. Apologies if you're referring to another Herman that I am missing.
|31 weeks 2 days ago||You completely missed the||
You completely missed the point of the analogy. The point is not that some things have an impact and other things don't. The point is that things can have deeper meaning than the form in which it exists. The Bible exists as a book. But can you see that it means more than just a book to many people? Now you're going to tell me that football and the Bible are different things.

I don't shut down now that I have kids. It's not fair to my kids and family, and they won't stand for it anyway. I do feel depressed on the inside.

Yea, it's just a game. Like the way my son is just a person and my home is just a slab of concrete. Funny that most of us feel such a strong connection to just a "game".

If we are listing random instances of disrespekt, on CNBC's show Squawk Box, the host asked John Engler (MSU alum and former governor of Michigan) his thoughts on Michigan v. Ohio State. John (in a quite awkward manner) flubbed a response and pointed out that he went to MSU instead of UM. The host retorted, my husband made me ask that question.

I realize you are just joking but you are confusing necessary and sufficient conditions.
|35 weeks 5 days ago||We have only one year of||
We have only one year of committee actions to judge but they have shown that they will look at game performance and not just win-loss record. The final regular season rankings (i.e., the very rankings that determined which teams would play in the playoffs) set Alabama and Oregon as #1 and #2 (each with one loss) ahead of an undefeated Florida State, which was the defending national champions to boot.
Unfortunately, the committee rankings are not yet out so we do not know how they specifically will view Saturday's game performance but if AP pollsters are any indication the pollsters were not impressed w/ MSU (keeping them at the same ranking) and relatively impressed w/ UM (which moved down just two spots).
|35 weeks 5 days ago||Maybe I'm a complete homer||
Maybe I'm a complete homer but I don't think it's tough. History shows us that the playoff committee will make good on its word in placing extra emphasis on the head to head match ups. This happened last year when the committee moved TCU down three spots in the final regular season ranking and moved Baylor ahead of TCU - notwithstanding the fact that TCU had rolled off seven consecutive victories (most by blow outs) while Baylor squeezed past some close games.
OSU is at #1 so can't move up at all. If we move up 7 spots or so over the next 5 weeks, we would be at #8 (AP poll) when we play them. I could see the committee moving us to #4 from #8 and OSU to #6 with a Michigan victory in the final game. MSU would be behind us by that point with a loss at OSU and they close the season against PSU.
One distinction to the TCU/Baylor scenario is that both had the exact same record when the committee penalized TCU for the head to head loss.
|35 weeks 5 days ago||See, I interpret the||
See, I interpret the provisions differently, but I understand why you interpret them your way. I interpret (b)(1) to mean a head-to-head analysis. I think (b)(6) covers overall record. The drafting leaves something to be desired.
|35 weeks 5 days ago||Disagree that we would be||
Disagree that we would be ranked worse than MSU and OSU in the hypothetical. Currently in the AP, MSU is at 7 and we are at 15. Obviously we don't know where all of the teams will be ranked in the future but it seems likely that an MSU loss to OSU would drop them below us. And if we beat OSU in the final game of the regular season, there would be a strong case to jump us ahead of OSU as well.

"Pride comes before the fall." Please - let's not repeat and adopt a Dantonio saying like he has imparted some great wisdom we were missing in our lives. Yes, I know it doesn't originate with him but he's the one who brought it up to describe us. And now, we are repeating it like he taught us a great lesson. Just stop.
|35 weeks 6 days ago||I agree with everything in||
I agree with everything in your post (with all of its vulgarity) but for your point that this is solely for entertainment purposes. That is evidently false. Michigan could play like a bad movie until the end of time but I (and I know many of you) will choose to support this team and this university until the end of time.
As much as we celebrate individuality in our country, we humans have forever belonged to groups. Political and religious groups serve this purpose for some. Whether we graduated from this university, worked at this university, or pledge allegiance to this university for other reasons, this is a group to which we belong. We are "for" Michigan.
You may still fairly ask the question, if what is the case should be the case. I can answer only personally. Michigan changed my life in ways that I am forever grateful. It opened up doors, and it helped teach me to take responsibility. (I was put on probation while I was there, and I deserved to be.) You can argue, "but another institution could have opened the same and taught the same." But they did not. Michigan did. I am "for" Michigan.
So, this is MY vent (and my disagreement with solely that portion of your post). I support this institution that has been so good to me - in (small) donations each year but also by supporting this team. It is not just entertainment to me. It is about giving back so that doors can be opened for others and responsibility taught to others and to say "thank you" for what it gave me.
Does a book consist solely of words, or does it contain something more?

I hope that this is the last time for a long time that I am this nervous for a game against MSU. I'd like to reserve this feeling for the OSU's and Alabama's of the world and not the MSU's.

MHW, you're not thinking of this in the context of a free market.
Book 1: 10-1 Michigan
Book 2: 15-1 Michigan
Obviously, Book 2 will get the Michigan money. Setting Michigan at 10-1 is a signal from the sportsbooks that they do not want to take any more money on Michigan. They want the money instead to go on other teams.

Personally, I wouldn't be so quick to give all of the credit to Durkin. I think Mattison is an amazing coach and our D-Line has looked phenomenal - more so than our LBs if I had to nitpick. Our anemic offense put our defense in very tough spots repeatedly last year and our defense nonetheless performed amazing prior to Durkin joining the crew.

I don't think there is substantial evidence. Some seem to assume that position coach in nfl must be good enough for cf. And some blow up his recruiting skills notwithstanding the fact that we just went through a period of good recruiting and bad player development. And I am sure that some are fond of his Michigan playing days but we really need to hire the best coaches for the players not pick coaches for nostalgia sake.

I have been on this blog a long time - during the haloscan days and prior to this interface when this blog was visited by a fraction of the masses now. Brian and co have done an excellent job.
This is the most significant moment in Michigan Football since this blog started.
