I agree, it's a smart pick. He's an insurance policy if Carr doesn't continue to develop, and the Raiders could trade Cook for a fair amount if he develops well. And 4th round backup QBs aren't a huge financial investment.

First, a ticket stub from the 1964 Michigan-Navy game. It was the second game of the season, and #8/9 Michigan beat #6/5 Navy 21-0. Michigan went on to a 9-1 season, winning the Big Ten and the Rose Bowl along the way, with the only loss a 21-20 nail-biter to Bob Griese's #5 Purdue.
Next, the October 30, 1950 issue of Life magazine, which contained a photo essay by legendary photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt. You've almost assuredly seen his most famous photo "V-J Day in Times Square" of a sailor kissing a nurse at the end of World War II. In 1950, Eisenstaedt chronicled the Michigan Marching Band's journey to New York City to perform at the Michigan-Army game at Yankee Stadium. #18 Michigan fell to #1 Army 27-6.
Following the musical vein, a piece of piano sheet music from 1904 entitled "Men of Yost," a little-known march dedicated to the great Point-a-Minute teams of 1901-1904.
I also have tome relics of the three great stadiums/arenas at Michigan. An original California redwood seat that was in Michigan Stadium from 1927 until the 1990s (they were covered with vinyl covers in the 1960s but the wood was still underneath), a brick from Yost that fell off during a heavy snowstorm when I was a student, and a row number from Crisler that fell off the seat I was sitting in during the 2011 NCAA Selection Show.
Before they started manufacturing Little Brown Jug repicas, the only way to have one was to make your own, so about 5 years ago I did just that. Mine is a 3-gallon jug (the real one is 5 gallons) and recently updated with the new score column and the last few scores.
And finally, probably the most unusual piece of UM memorabilia I own, given to me by one of my groomsmen when I got married. It's from a book written by a UM geology professor right after World War I about why, in his opinion, the war broke out. But what makes it unique is who owned this particular copy. The author inscribed it to him.
"To Fielding H. Yost, With the best regards of Wm H. Hobbs, Ann Arbor, Oct 3, 1922."

You must have told this story before, because I remember it! And the reason I remember it is because a friend and I grabbed a few Yost bricks after they were fenced off and were walking back when a cop car pulled up right next to us and turned on its lights. We both almost shit our pants, but the cop was actually pulling over a car. Then I read your story a while later and realized that we were in no danger whatsoever.

The MMB was moved to the bottom of the student section in 2006, until them they were on the northeast sideline.

Having lived in Nebraska for a few years, I just don't see UNL getting a varsity hockey team in the near future. There's been talk of one for years, but UNO is the reason they won't pull the trigger. I believe the worry is that rather than adding a new group of fans for the UNL team, all it will do is siphon off a large chunk--perhaps even a majority--of the UNO fans. And since hockey is UNO's most prominent sport, that would be a heavy blow to their athletic department.
It'd be one thing if they were seperate schools where one could just start up the team and flip the other school the finger as they grab a bunch of their fans, but these are two schools in the same university system. I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't think it will happen.

Deans serve five-year terms and are limited to two terms, so this may have just been a routine changeover.

This is the correct answer. I was in the MMB during the late Carr and early Rich Rod era, and Rich Rod started sending the team over to the students and the band to sing The Victors after a win. That's why The Victors Waltz went away, to better coordinate what was going on with the team and the students. It had nothing to do with the whims of the band directors.

To my knowledge, the MMB drum major is the only one who does a hatless backbend. As previously stated, Matt Pickus (1993-94) was the first MMB drum maor to do the hatless backbend--recent students know him as the guy who does twirling tricks in front of the student section at homecoming. During the 2000s the tradition was that the drum major took their hat off once the Big Ten season started. Iden Baghdadchi (2006) was the first one who did only hatless backbends, and all of his successors have followed suit so far.

No. There is absolutely no truth to the slanderous and libelous claim that CRAIG JAMES KILLED FIVE HOOKERS AT SMU. I really don't know why any rational person would try to imply that CRAIG JAMES KILLED FIVE HOOKERS AT SMU. If there was any shred of evidence that CRAIG JAMES KILLED FIVE HOOKERS AT SMU then surely by now it would be in the hands of the authorities. So we should really stop saying that CRAIG JAMES KILLED FIVE HOOKERS AT SMU.
