I liked Rodriguez' speech in 2008. It was brief, to the point, and he got in a good zinger at the douchebag OSU fans that were chanting while he was talking.

Why stop there? Throw in some complimentary hookers and blow while we're at it!
But seriously, Cowherd is a jackass who obviously has no real sources in Ann Arbor, and probably not in San Francisco.

At this point, the fact that Harbaugh is a great coach is sliding into the #2 spot as to why I want him at Michigan, #1 being all the crow that NFL and national reporters would have to eat.

They should do one for the Gemini 4 crew, both of whom were UM grads. Gemini 4 was the first American spaceflight to accomplish a space walk. Sadly, Ed White was killed in the Apollo 1 fire, but James McDivitt is still around.

From reading the local media in Utah, the buzz is that Bronco Mendenhall could be looking around for a different job. BYU went independent under the delusion that it would instantly turn them into a western Notre Dame, and surprisingly that hasn't panned out. Their fans are also stuck in the 1980s mindset when their teams were a national power (not surprising since their quarterbacks were Jim McMahon, Steve Young, and Ty Detmer). This season turning to ruins after they lost their qb, combined with outsized expectations, have left lots of BYU fans clamoring for a coaching change.
tl;dr Mendenhall might actually be available, unlike Whittingham.
I wouldn't want him though. Michigan has plenty of better targets.

I was at a game once when the Knicks were in town, and there was a little boy with his dad near where we were sitting. At one point in the game, the kid turned to his dad and asked "Daddy, why is number 7 the only one who shoots the ball?" And the dad didn't miss a beat, replying "Because, son, that's Carmelo Anthony."

Because he was the coach at Moeller High School in Cincinnati. Moeller is a Catholic school, and anyone who knows Ohio football knows that the Cincinnati schools (especially the Catholic ones--Moeller, Elder, St. X) are hotbeds of high school football talent and have been for many years. Moeller was a major talent pipeline for Notre Dame in the 1960s and 1970s, and Faust's teams went 178-23-2 (including 7 undefeated seasons and 5 state championships) during his time there. So ND thought "well, this guy is sending us all of these awesome players and is dominating at the high school level, so let's take a chance on him."
Obviously it didn't work out, but it's not like he was some random high school coach who no one had never heard of.

If Miles was 5-10 years younger I might view him more favorably. He's 61, and most college coaches retire sometime in their sixties. I did an analysis a while back about retirement ages, and almost all of the great coaches retired right around 65, and those that hung on past 70 had a winning percentage that was significantly lower than the winning percentage for their overall career.
The reason that's important for us is we need someone that will give us stability, meaning someone who will coach for 10+ years and hopefully groom his successor. We didnt get a viable successor from Carr's coaching tree, and the two coaches who succeeded him flamed out fairly quickly. We need someone who will settle things down and build not only a program, but also establish a coaching tree that will continue his own success once he's done. A guy like Miles who is already in his sixties is a short-term solution (and a somewhat dubious one at that) that could leave us looking for another coach sooner than we want to because of retirement.
