our recruiting is getting better, not worse
This is the key point above all.
If we have a season that gets rid of the speculation that Hoke is on the hot seat . . . then it's lights out.
Well, actually the lights are already out. I guess it will be more of them out. Something like that.

But smaller and smaller droves, it appears.
Maybe people are reaching their limit.

|4 hours 21 min ago||That is what scares me the||
That is what scares me the most about Dave Brandon . . . that you don't ever feel that you can trust his inner Michigan compass to do the right thing. Yes he needs to make money, but can you trust him to say no and not sell out his program when it really matters?
Don't forget, this is the guy that was willing to be the mouthpiece for the Big Ten moving the Ohio State game from the last game of the season and replacing it with Michigan State. I would expect a Michigan AD to scream from the rafters "Hell no, over my dead body". Instead we got "people will have to get used to the idea that some things will need to change and the Ohio State game may not necessarily always be the last game of the year."
Why did he do this? Because he saw there was money to be made by the B1G marketing its new championship game with the novelty of Michigan potentially facing Ohio State. Money that he knew he would get a chunk of.
This same kind of approach gets us App State II, a big game against Alabama . . . played in Texas, and various sitck-your-finger-in-people's-eye-just-to-make-a-few-bucks-becasue-I-think-I-can things like seat cushions and water bottles.
I never feel that i can trust his inner Michigan compass to do the right thing if there are a few dollars on the table.

ESPN wanted this game and we said yes. Of course they are going to milk it. We are not being picked on, we collaborated with ESPN to do this to ourselves.

Ann Arbor has a great ace in the hole that is understated in recruiting . . . it is near a large hub airport that has lots of reasonably-priced non-stop flights to everywhere in the US.
It is easy to get to Ann Arbor from just about anywhere, especially the East Coast.

If he wants to go to the NFL, he won't "stay close to home". Might as well get used to it now.

Better than losing while looking just god-awful on the offensive line.

No, it's a slick way that Dave Brandon thinks will get us attention even while only scheduling a cupcake at home with no return game requirement.
And of course, as any two-year old, er, I mean TV reality show contestent, er, I mean marketing-oriented AD will tell you, any attention is good, even if it is embarrassing.

It never ever worked for me either . . . Chrome, Explorer, . . . Laptop, PC, . . . nothing.
My half-assed workaround was to go to the "Recent" section on the board, then click the >> page-down button. For some reason, that one worked. But you did not get things in the same order as the "New" section.
Yay for proper page down!
[Edit:] Oops - No Yay! It still does not work.
/resume half-assed workaround.

Hoke does stuff like this because it is who he is
That is so incredibly true.
Meyer comes into Ohio State and starts his Woody Hayes-copycat "That Team up North" stuff to play to the locals. You just know that he would do the same kind of shtick no matter where he ended up. It's all just cynical theatre.
Meanwhile, Brady Hoke refuses to wear red because it represents Ohio State and he is loyal to Michigan . . . while he is coach at two different schools that have red as their primary color and he has no idea that he will ever be back at Michigan.
This is a man just being who he is.
|6 hours 53 min ago||We need Rutgers to have a||
We need Rutgers to have a pulse to pull some talent away from Penn State.
Penn State is like Ohio State in that they are the only major program in a talent-rich area. Paterno had that program absolutely sleep-walking for a decade (he did not even go out recruiting). Franklin is in position to biuld a monster there once sanctions are done.
It is in our interest to have Rutgers and Maryland reach a certain critical mass that keeps Penn State from being the only game in town for top PA/NJ/DMVrecruits that want to stay close to home. These are two programs that genuinely hate Penn State and will be geeked out of their minds to beat them, the way Sparty gets with us.
|7 hours 2 min ago||Yes, i would love nothing||
Yes, i would love nothing more than to see Sparty faceplant against Jacksonville St tonight. Even though it will hurt the perception of the B1G, I can't resist the schadenfreude.
But I want them all business against Oregon and pull out a statement win at Autzen.
That is one of the things I love about college football: the interesting and contrasting styles of an Oregon against an MSU. You don't get that in the group-think NFL where they all do pretty much the same thing the same way.
|7 hours 10 min ago||The playoff makes it||
The playoff makes it imperative that the league show well. Not just to get into the playoff, but how you are seeded once you are picked. We don't want the B1G representative to always have to play the hardest team first.

Woodson - Michigan
Howard - Michigan
Griffen - Baylor
Manziel - A&M
Williams - TX
Dorsett - Pitt
Allen - USC
Rogers - SCar
Ware - Houston
Staubach - Navy
Simms - OK
Crow - A&M
Sanders - OK ST
Campbell - TX
Bradford - OK
