Because he brings up a legit point?
They have been playing football night games for 123 years:
They have seen it all. In fact, they had seen it all before any of us were even born.
If they don't want a night game, then the AD should just say "We just don't want a night game. We don't need an excuse, we just don't feel like it. Too bad if you don't like it. We brought you Harbaugh, so shut up."
They don't need to hide behind lame excuses like the town or the police dept can't handle it. They do it just fine in places that are hardly role models of decorum and mental stability like Baton Rouge.
And they have been doing it longer than any of us have been alive.

Almost everyone is back. That's the best part about softball - when great players become Seniors . . . they are still in school.
When I was watching Romero last year, I kept having this reflexive nagging feeling that I got as a habit from watching football and basketball . . . it's too bad she'll leave early. I forgot that not everything is like football or basketball.

You never said that about Jake Butt.

Maybe he is not bragging and is just going to be in Budapest and wants to watch the game.
What's he supposed to say? "I will be in some place in Eastern Europe that may or may not be really cool . . . that's not really the point . . . I just want to watch the Michigan game. If it turns out to be a really cool place, will you still tell me anyway?"

I feel like having those constraint plays, and dialing them up at the right time, is the key difference between this staff and the last.
I agree with this, and it's ironic because it's exactly what Borges waxed eloquently about wanting his offense to be based on. But he could never pull it off. The new staff said nothing about it, they just do it.
What was the Harbaugh quote? . . . we don't want to talk about doing it, we want to do it.

Maryland's defense was not extremely talented, but they were very quick, especially side-to-side. The filled the lanes quickly and got to the edges quickly.
We started scoring when we exploited that quickness and got them out of position on screens and sweeps, and when Drake Johnson, who gets into and out of holes quickly himself, started getting carries.
|4 hours 14 min ago||They ran out of hot dogs and||
They ran out of hot dogs and pretzels 5 minutes before the half, while the lines were still small. And they only sell hot dogs, pretzels, and pop corn. They seemed surprised that there were people that wanted to buy concessions at a football game half-time. It caught them totally off guard.
The whole Maryland infrastructure - their football team, coaches, fans, stadium staff - was just going through the motions.
All of this made me think two thoughts:
1) Thank god Michigan was there to pick up the slack and it was not a Maryland-Purdue game. It would have been one of the most pathetic public events ever held.
2) Don't ever fucking tell me that Michigan does not have great fans. OK, they don't act like crazed imbecils as much as some other teams, but they are knowledgeable, loyal, and they support the team in all weather, literally and figuratively. We took that place over and did not leave it until the team left the field.

I love Harbaugh's quote after it was clear we that could not run the ball: "We were trying to figure out what we could execute well and avoid the big mistake." They came up with the screens and the jet sweep to put the game away.
That's coaching . . . having a Plan B no matter how convinced you are that Plan A - running the ball down their throats the same way WVU and a MAC team did it - can't fail.
Whether we should have been able to run or not, it became clear we could not. So they adapted, like USC did against us in the 2007 Rose Bowl to hand us an embarassing loss.
The old staff would have just gone 27-27 because, by damn, these plays are supposed to work and we practiced them all week.

The illusion is shattered.
Most of us passionate fans would consider an ESPN gig covering college football as a slice of paradise. To them . . . it's just a job.
Somewhere there is a Playboy photographer at a Playmate shoot as we speak . . . yawning.

He seemed to be on the field during every defensive highlight during the Maryland game.
We will miss him.
Here is where you hope Harbaugh's NFL connections can pay off . . . that he can get him a decent look from the NFL after rehab even if he has fallen off the radar.
|5 hours 36 min ago||They still cover college||
They still cover college football like it's just a way to kill time until the NFL games come on Sunday, which is really what they care about.
NBC is the absolute worst. A Notre Dame halftime is half-filled with commercials and them pimping upcoming NFL games. You only get a small sliver of the CFB highlights that you would expect.

Yeah I laugh when people say "Google it" to everything as if it is always the magic answer.
Google is not a God-Head just waiting to answer all your questions, folks. it's just an index to stuff already posted on the internet.
Sometimes it's better to actually ask people that will probably know the answer to your question, especially on a highly-specialized place like MGoBlog, than to wade through 12,000 irrelevant hits that happen to have the keywords Northwestern, Michigan, or Budapest in them.

The worst are when you see some highlights that Ohio State put together of their games, especially any old games with Michigan.
You watch for 15 minutes and it's nothing but Buckeye great plays. It looks like they should be ahead 47-0. Then you see the score out of the corner of your eye and they are down 10 points.
You're thinking "Um, there's something you're not telling me here."
