Indeed, Michigan did not win…

Indeed, Michigan did not win the National Championship without talent.  They won it with vastly mis-identified talent.

If you re-ranked all of the…

If you re-ranked all of the CFB rosters on Jan 9th 2024, Michigan would be at the top of the list.  Just look at the NFL draft proceedings so far.

A Michigan National Championship indeed should have been anticipated by the start of the season.

Holding the Spring Game when…

Holding the Spring Game when we are this year makes a huge difference weather-wise in Michigan.

The nasty weather when we typically hold the game is a big deterrent for attendance.

Well then, I'll have just to…

Well then, I'll have just to do my part and watch.  And I will try to get my daughter - a newly minted Wolverine - to watch too.

We're gonna light up the…

We're gonna light up the joint that day.

Klatt and Gus are our living…

Klatt and Gus are our living, breathing good luck charms.  When they are on, we are on.

95% of the comments on this…

95% of the comments on this post - which also has football content - are about basketball.  Good.

Don't ever say that Michigan does not care about basketball.  And we care about Hockey too. And Softball.  And more.

We can do more than one thing at a time, and mean it.

The dude on the baseline…

The dude on the baseline that stopped the chair has quite a story to tell years later.

He was ready for the moment.

Yep.  Logged in just to…

Yep.  Logged in just to upvote this.

People who don't know shit about football will say that we were run-heavy to avoid JJ's passing.

No.  JJ's passing allowed us to be run-heavy.  We could control the ball, run clock, and wear down the other team, knowing that when we inevitably hit 3rd and long, JJ would bail us out.

And he did it time and time again.  He kept all of those Boa Constrictor drives alive.  He was money in 4th quarters especially, in the biggest games.

We will miss that greatly.  You don't just plug in a QB from the bench and replace that.

Awesome finish.  Thanks for…

Awesome finish.  Thanks for the link.

As long as transfers are not…

As long as transfers are not going to be policed or limited, the smart play is to bank most of your $$$ and use it on the transfer portal.

At that point, you are getting players that are much more of a known entity, both on the field and off the field.  They have an observable track record as college athletes, and how they fit in your program.  It is not just a wild gamble anymore.

The question I'm asking…

The question I'm asking myself lately is: "How much of this roster could Michigan have put together under today's NIL environment?"

I'm pretty confident that Team 144 wouldn't be walking through that door.

We probably have more urgency to catch up to our competitors than any National Championship program in history.

Interesting post on a Saban…

Interesting post on a Saban thread.  Saban is only gone two months and he's irrelevant already.

College football is…

College football is officially on the slippery slope towards self-destruction, and as often is the case, money is the root of the problem.

This is not quite accurate. D1 college football is officially on the slippery slope.  But if you are a college football purist for the way it existed 100 years ago, you can still watch D2 and D3.  And Army - Navy.

As much as people complain about the direction of D1 college football, I don't predict that all eyes will now suddenly turn to D2 and D3 college football.  People will just keep watching D1 college football, while still complaining about it.

I always laugh at multi…

I always laugh at multi-millionaires who insist that others should just "play for the love of the game".

If Saban really wanted that he could still find it and still coach . . . in Division 3.

Of course he would just make a regular professor's salary and have to help maintain the field.  But he would never do that.

16 is a no brainer.  There…

16 is a no brainer.  There is ample precedent, the lower divisions have been doing it successfully for decades.  No drama.

10-4 good buddy.

10-4 good buddy.

Wow, this article is the…

Wow, this article is the most MGoBlog thing ever, and why I have been coming here for nearly 20 years.

There is no way those clowns…

There is no way those clowns are keeping 5 QBs.  Guys that came for the bag - and are there any that didn't? - will split as soon as a starter is picked.

When you have 5 QBs, you don't have any QBs.

Sadly for them, McCord was the best of the bunch, but they chased him away because he fell just short against Michigan with 20 seconds left.  They may have conceivably been the second best team in the country, but they blew it all up on a freak out.

Our all-blues look so cool.

Our all-blues look so cool.

It will happen.  Mark my…

It will happen.  Mark my words, we're going to see a star QB transfer back and forth between teams right in the middle of a game and play steady quarterback.

No, literally.  It is legal…

No, literally.  It is legal now.

Fuck 'em all.  Have a tampering negotiation right in the middle of Times Square, broadcasted on Fox Sports.

Happy we made it through the…

Happy we made it through the first window relatively unscathed, but considering the NCAA cannot enforce NIL rules and it will be far easier academic wise to transfer in the next window

That works both ways now.  We need to make our shopping list and then go raiding the rest of college football unabashedly.  NIL stands for Now It's Legal

Our NIL can't be that bad that the reigning National Champions can't go pluck off some key players from other also-ran programs.

TWSS

Hope for some hidden depth we have not seen yet from the non-starters.  Next man up.

Excellent!

Excellent!

It's even worse than that. …

It's even worse than that.  Read the last paragraph of the article about how transfer portal rules can't be enforced either.

We now have Free Agency with no Salary Cap in college football.  It is total wild west.

That is a lot of hungry mouths to feed every year, who leave looking for a bigger paycheck.  The money will run out

Let's not kid ourselves, the…

Let's not kid ourselves, the amount of money a top kid gets in NIL is transformational.  We no longer have to pretend that players should be above that.

This is exactly what they do.

This is exactly what they do.

I am in favor of any rule…

I am in favor of any rule change that reflects what the majority of college football is already doing.

Michigan is the type of program that insists on driving exactly 55 mph because that's the rule . . . while the rest of the world blows by at 75 mph because the rule is arbitrarily stupid and nobody cares about it.  (But when Michigan does slip up and drives 60 mph, they get selectively hammered by the overlords.)

So let us "officially" play by the same rules that everybody else is playing by.  If it's all about money, and we are allowed to fight with money without being handcuffed, I like our chances.

It's not what's in it, it's…

It's not what's in it, it's what's on it.

I'll be getting one.  My brother who went to Penn State had one from their national championship in 1982.  For years, I was always jealous of that.  It spoke to me for some reason, much more than makes any sense.

So I'll be getting one of my own in an act of redemption.

The 1980 team did indeed…

The 1980 team did indeed have some buzz and they played well throughout the Olympics.

Well enough that I thought they actually had a chance against the Soviets.  So I avoided all contact with any kind of news that day, so that when I watched the tape-delayed broadcast, I would not know who won and would be watching it "live" as it happened.

It was an incredible moment when they won.  Even more so given the background at the time . . . America was in its "malaise" era of perceived decline, while the Soviets were on the march globally, having just invaded Afghanistan.  That victory was a real lift of self confidence for the country.

My son goes to Northwestern…

My son goes to Northwestern and will be a Senior this fall.  Those kids are getting chumped for their last year at the school.  And nobody cares about them.  The students are an afterthought.

And yes, the students do go to the games, and they tailgate / pregame before them.  Northwestern is a small school and the students are not enough to fill in the stadium, but they do show up . . . much more than I thought before I became familiar with the school.

That was cool.

Too bad the…

That was cool.

Too bad the only people that can see it are probably big doners.  The regular fans are just chattel to be milked and then herded away.

Can you see the CFP National…

Can you see the CFP National Championship trophy anywhere?  Where do they keep it?

Then go after Ohio State's…

Then go after Ohio State's endless bullshit like he should have all along.  That will "publicly embrace" Michigan.

You want to "move past the…

You want to "move past the friction" Pettiti?  Let's see you do something about Ohio State's massive NIL inducements and Portal tampering.  Not to mention hiring a PI just to dig up dirt on a conference member, which you fell for like a clown.

You want to move past the friction?  Then stop the fucking friction.

Not when we lube up and bend…

Not when we lube up and bend over like we do.

IMO, it was a actually net…

IMO, it was a actually net positive for our Championship march.  The team never lost focus, motivation, or resolve for one second.

That said, Fuck You Pettiti.  You certainly intended for it to harm Michigan.  But Michigan had other plans.

In spite of Pettiti.  It…

In spite of Pettiti.  It could have very easily gone south for us.  God knows he tried.

We need to stop him from trying it again.

IT'S NOT OVER UNTIL WE SAY…

IT'S NOT OVER UNTIL WE SAY IT'S OVER!!

Do we ever come off the…

Do we ever come off the ledge?

Now, about basketball . . .

All weight loss is good . . …

All weight loss is good . . . er, I mean, all coaching change is good coaching change.

The Michigan offense…

The Michigan offense controlled the ball with the run, and then leaned on JJ when they needed a play.

He always delivered in the clutch.

Michigan didn't control the ball with the run because they couldn't trust JJ, they control the ball with the run because they could trust JJ.

It was a perfect combination that frustrated the hell out of opponents.  They got ground down most of the game but finally got a key stop or two, and then JJ blew it all up with a laser pass or with his legs.

Penn State, Ohio State, Alabama, Washington were all on the JJ victim list.

He is really good.

I made the same mistake. …

I made the same mistake.  Fortunately, you did it before I did, so you get to be the one that looks like an idiot.

Thank you for that.

IDK, TBD OK?

IDK, TBD OK?

This is the same kind of…

This is the same kind of lazy bullshit math like when they say inflation is going down.  The rate of inflation is going down.  Inflation is not going down, prices are still inflating and increasing . . . just not as fast as they were before.
