We could have easily followed suit (look what that same team did a yearr later in the Cap One bowl). But Lloyd was too stubborn / dogmatic.

Much different situation than Iowa.
Harbaugh has a month to prepare and motivate. Speight has a month to get healthy.
This is not some kind of "trap" game. There is a long time off untill the game, and nothing after it.
It will be two-thiirds of our team's last game in a Michigan uniform.
They will be focused.

It's all about exploitable matchups. Their biggest weaknesses are among our biggest strengths. They struggle to protect the QB on offfense, and on defense they can't cover. Our DL and blitzing is among the best in the country, and Harbaugh's passing scheme is tailor-made to confuse an overmatched secondary.
Conversely, their strengths don't exploit our biggest weaknesses. They have the bset RB in the country, but we have been strong aganist the run. They get a lot of sacks, but our much-maligned OL has actually been pretty good in pass-pro. They'll get some successful plays, but it won't be enough.
If our team is healthy and their heads are in the game, we should win it cleanly.

Their heads were not in that game. They will be for a game agaist Michigan.

If all goes to chalk - we win, PSU loses, UW loses in the first round, Clemson loses in the first round, OSU loses in the title game - we could finish ranked third in the country.
That's pretty ironic . . . we're only third in the Big Ten East division, yet we're third in the entire country.

We screamed bloody murder when Brandon indicated he was OK with moving it to October when the Big Ten went to 2 divisions.
Even that tone-deaf asshole had to listen to an uproar that intense. Same thing happned down at Ohio State with their fans and their AD.
It should always be the last game of the regular season.

One of the most frustrating Michigan games to watch ever. One of the worst coaching games ever.
In the first half both teams wanted to run, but neither could and the score was 3 - 3.
Then in the second half, USC adjusted and went to the air. Michigan kept trying to pound the ball into a wall despite the fact that we were more than capable of airing it out.
Game over. We got blown out.
People are fond of revisionist history about Rich Rod, but the fact is we were damn excited when he showed up with his dynamic offense. It was games like the 2006 season Rose Bowl against USC that made us so hungry for a dynamic offense.

I remember being at that one.
I like to go down to field level toward the end of a game when a lot of people clear out. I was about 10 feet away from that last second TD catch, in the same corner as Desmond's catch against ND. That ball came zipping in there.
Florida State was not fully "Florida State" yet. It was a good win but not a really big win like it would be today.

Miami is not close to Tallahassee.
This is a travel-and-hotel game for FSU. It's a long drive and the game is late at night, so you will need to book a hotel. Once you are booking hotels, it's a high enough hurdle to keep a lot of people away.
It's not like U of Florida travelling to the Citrus Bowl in the middle of the day and then driving back home for dinner. It's NOT a de facto home game.
There may be as many Michigan fans at the Orange Bowl as FSU fans.

I look back on that '99 team fondly. I forget that they did not win the Big Ten or the NC, because they showed up big . . . in the Orange Bowl.

It's a shame the sport is so injury-prone. Even guys that are not desperate for the early money and would like to come back, feel that they have to leave. The risk of career-ending injury is too great.

|4 days 9 hours ago||Gotta get that fixed. Say||
Gotta get that fixed. Say what you want about Bo's and Lloyd's less than dynamic offenses, but when they needed to run to get a first down to kill off a game, they could get it done.
Two prime examples come to mind: Bo - Illinois 1989 for the Big Ten lead, Lloyd - Ohio State 1996.
