But you let on the following:
- He's a walk on
- He plays on the offense
- He plays in a position where you can get a penalty for a false start
- He's a walk on that Harbaugh yelled at in earnest in the first practice for causing a false start.
Hell, the coaching staff could just pull all the walk ons aside and say "We've heard reports of a walk on giving out the play book. We are not going to guess, we want you to man-up and tell us straight out if it was you."
Maybe the coaches don't care and everybody does it. But we'd hate to see somebody get in trouble if not.

Is it just me, or did Hoke do the "local" recruiting much earlier?

The fact that you just told a Blog that gets a million hits a week that he told you . . . is enough to get him in trouble. It would not be too hard to figure out who it is if the staff gets upset and really wants to know who did it.
If I tell somebody not to tell a secret, I'm not going to be too satisfied with the response "I violated your trust and told your secret, but don't worry, it was to somebody I really really trust."

Not sure I agree with this. Because it does matter where they are from, and the players are not all just interchangeable.
If we desperately need a TE and the best all happen to be in southern California and Florida, you can't just rely on them picking Michigan. You better have a plan B that is more reliable than assuming you are going to beat USC and UCLA out for CA kids, and the whole SEC out for Florida kids.
Once in a while that will happen, but you can't make a living off of it. You need to have a reliable "core" that you can count on and then branch out from there.

That's WD's area.

It's a smart approach for Dantinio. That is one of the reasons that MSU is not going to just go away while Harbaugh and Meyer fight it out for King of the Big Ten.
|10 hours 27 min ago||Yeah, I agree with this.||
Yeah, I agree with this. Hence the unusually large amount of CA offers that Harbaugh is giving out.
It's interesting that he hasn't really started on his "core" midwest recruiting all that much yet. Given the low hit rate he is likely to get with his CA recruiting, he must be confident he can circle back to the midwest in earnest later in the year. I'm curious when that will be.
|10 hours 47 min ago||Agree on your last||
Agree on your last point.
"He may be a tough pull from [California / Florida / Texas / . . . ]" How many times do we read that in Ace's writeups?
It's a fact of life that recruiting Ohio and the midwest is far more reliable and predictable for Michigan. You will always need your core of recruits from that area when you are Michigan. You can then branch out from there to add selective and desirable recruits from CA, TX, FL, etc.
But you can't make a living by having all your eggs in the CA basket that USC and UCLA are trying to raid.

Not all of the coaches here have been successful. But that does not mean that they have not made some postive contributions.
Amaker gave us Maize Rage which also lead to maize-outs. Hoke gave us "Team 13X" and "This is Michigan".
These kind of things are great. They can and should live on.

True story: I was driving from Ann Arbor to Dayton once, and I crashed into the wall that Jim Tressel put around Ohio.
But Jim Harbaugh came to rescue me and gave me CPR. He told me not to tell anyone, because this is just what leaders do. Then he ate.

It is puzzling. Not just because we struggle with it, but also because how easy it is for other teams to do it against us.
How many times did you watch us struggle with it and then when it's the other team's turn to inbound you think "Now we'll give them a taste of their own medicine" . . . and then zip! they get it in right away on the first pass without even a fake.
When was the last time we got a turnover on an opponent's inbound?
Not only are we bad at doing it, we're bad at defending it.
