The nutty Michigan coverage isn't so much about Harbaugh as it is a signal to the Big Ten that Fox wants to party.

He even ran a freaking option pitch that we were not ready for.
|1 hour 29 min ago||I wonder what else is out||
I wonder what else is out there that is like this . . . an "obvious" innovation just waiting to happen.
They played soccer for 100 years before American football picked up on it as a better way to kick field goals in the '70's. Aus rules football is by no means new, yet we are only starting to latch on it now in the 2010's as a better way to punt.
What else is right in front of our noses that we've been ignoring but that can be used as an innovation?

The dark maize looks like WVU or Iowa
True. We don't to be just another Cal / WVU / Toledo clone. Michigan's traditional bright maize on it's athletic uniforms is unique to Michigan.
I was in Rome and I saw a guy from the back in a polo shirt with trim that I recognized as the Michigan "maize". I yelled out "Go Blue!" and he turned around and responded "Go Blue!". In Rome. Italy.
Try doing something like that if you are Cal / WVU / Toledo / etc.

The maize during Bo's era (and Harbaugh's) was bright yellow. I seen it wit me own eyes.

No. They were not.

Agreed. It looks ametureish.

hose are my second favorite away unis. The 80's away unis are my first:
|8 hours 38 min ago||I was initially against it||
I was initially against it because I always thought the mid-70's Michigan away unis looked dumpy and high-schoolish. I've long favored our '80's away unis as the look we should go for.
That being said, I thought they looked pretty damn sweet. Widen the shoulder and pants stripes a little and you have a winner.
|8 hours 42 min ago||I'm sure there were some, but||
I'm sure there were some, but I do not recall seeing any Rudock look-offs.
He locks on big time. He gets away with it more than Gardner did because he releases quick and is accurate.
How was he at this at Iowa? Does anybody know? Is this just a first-game-in-a-new-system thing, or is it who he is . . . one read, quick accurate throw, hope it's open?
|8 hours 46 min ago||I wish we would have done a||
I wish we would have done a little of that on offense ourselves. Utah had a Plan A, Plan B, Plan C, Plan D.
We only had Plan A and Plan A-. I hope we can change that quickly. Had Utah been as rigid as we were, they would have only scored 3 points.
|8 hours 56 min ago||That's good coaching there.||
That's good coaching there.
Last year we had great punts . . . that all outkicked the coverage. Lots of wonderful 60 yard punts with 30 yard runbacks that netted only 30 yards.

No, but Drake plays well to the current OLine's weakness. Watch the RB preview videos again, Drake is just a diferent critter. It looks like the videos were sped up when he runs. He does not need large holes and he does not need them held open for as long. Smith does and he's great when he gets that. But our OLine can't do it consistently, especially against a front 7 like Utah's.
Given the current state of our OLine, he is a difference maker right now.

You were neg'd on this, but there is a grain of truth in what you said from this perspective: We got ourselves so worked up watching Stanford Orange Bowl videos and the like that our expectations of how much different this would look than a Hoke team were way out of line.
It still looked closer to a 2014 Michigan team under Hoke than a 2010 Stanford team under Harbaugh. That's to be expected. That we would assume otherwise at this juncture is on us.
|9 hours 13 min ago||I was very impressed by||
I was very impressed by Utah's in-game adjustments on offense. They started out using Booker as a decoy. When we figured that out they started running him, to no avail. So they got Wilson going in the pass game and scored a TD. When we settled down on that, they started using Wilson on zone read keepers for another TD.
Three times they made in-game adjustments on offense. And when one of them did not work, they adjusted their adjustment.
Conversely, I was very disappointed in Michigan's in-game adjustments on offense. We stayed in 27-27 mode way too long. When we did adjust a little in the second half, it was with the waggle which you can only go to so many times before that well dries up.
I hope the lack of flexibility and adjustments on offense are the results of new coaches and a new system and not an inflexible rock-rock-rock mentality from O-Line coach turned OC Tim Drevno. But even in this game, it seems like he could have done more to help his offense when it stalled like Utah did for theirs.

As a freshman, Perry was excellent blocking on those. Route running . . . not as much.
Perry giveth and Perry taketh away.
|9 hours 42 min ago||I took much joy in your loss||
I took much joy in your loss to Florida, but you are right, the loss of Ginn early can not be overstated. He was a key component of that offense and when that offense went off track, the defense could not do it all.
Of course, I also take much joy in the fact that the loss of Ginn was self-inflicted by a level of Buckeye stupidity rarely seen even in Middle School. But I digress.
|9 hours 51 min ago||Yeah, agree. You already||
Yeah, agree. You already know you are going to go for it on 4th down. Take a shot on 3rd. We needed a quick TD anyway.
I hope the play calling opens up and what we were seeing is just the impact of a new system with several key new players.
Harbaugh clearly was not calling each play, it was likely Drevno. He's an unknown commodity at OC for us. Too early to tell if he is just getting loosened up or if he has an evil DeBord-Borges love child inside him.

Which will surely put us in the playoff, so we can still win the National Championship!!
14-0, er, 13-1 baby!
|10 hours 2 min ago||The receivers and pass||
The receivers and pass protection looked surprisingly good. Until Drake Johnson comes back, we will need to pass to set up the run, instead of the other way around. Two straight interior runs for 2 yards and then a third and 8 pass under pressure is not going to get it done.
Open it up . . . put Rudock in the shotgun more and let him hit his go-to short throws and get in a rhythm.
|10 hours 7 min ago||Utah does not have the||
Utah does not have the secondary to be a top program at the end of the year. This is not really a "good" loss, it's just a loss because we did not play well. We lick our wounds from here and move on and get better.
|10 hours 9 min ago||I hated that 4th and 1 call,||
I hated that 4th and 1 call, espically given the way the QB sneak was easily stuffed the play before. Play action could have gone for a TD there.
|10 hours 11 min ago||All those Harbaugh 2-star but||
All those Harbaugh 2-star but highly athletic linebacker recruits are starting to make sense.
We are athletic in spots, but not across the board like OSU is. Harbaugh is recruiting to fix that.
|10 hours 14 min ago||He was, but it's not all his||
He was, but it's not all his fault. 1.5 of those INT's were on the frreshman. The running game did nothing to help him. Nor did the Borges 27-27 play-calling that kept putting him in 3rd and long.
We don't know how much not sticking with Rudock was really an option. I'm not seeing Shane exactly passing the test on all those 3rd and longs uder pressure either. That's been a big weak area for Morris.
We really need a healthy Drake Johnson. He hits those small rapidly closing holes fast and squirts through at full speed, keeping Rudock out of those constant 3rd and longs. He's a difference maker.
|10 hours 21 min ago||The Good:||
- Recievers! We have some.
- Pass pro looked for real.
- Second half Peppers on D and returns.
- D-Line. Wormley should be renamed Pythonley.
- Aussie, Aussie, Aussie. Oy, Oy, Oy!
- Harbaugh was surprisingly well-mannered on the sidelines and post-game.
- O-Line. Still a big work in process. Seven years and counting . . .
- RB. Smith is great once he gets through the LOS, but it takes him forever to get there. Drake Johnson, wherefore art thou?
- 1st half play calling. Very 27-27.
- Field goals. He's right, he should have gone for it.
- D against the zone read spread. Can we reschedule BYU?
- MGoBlog Server. I had to go to MLive's Sparty troll-infested forum. Yuck. If MGoBlog can bring down an imperial AD it should be able to get a server that can handle more than a noon MAC game load.
|10 hours 42 min ago||Starts? 0.000% He could play||
He could play some - if anything we will need to get him prepped for next season - but he won't start. And that's as it should be.
1.5 of those INT's were on the freshman.

Or if Michigan connects on those long passes. Of coruse, then we'd have outgained them 455 to 337.
|18 hours 39 min ago||Until we get Drake Johnson||
Until we get Drake Johnson back, we are going to need to pass to set up the run, not the other way around. Rudcok actually looked good when he worked out of the shotgun on primarily passing drives. He can step up to this.
