Great sentiment, and I agree. But as a medical resident I can personally relate to the fact that the world just doesn't work that way. They'll have time to nap and these four years will be a great lesson in self-discipline (and some enforced disclipline) and time management.

I'm worried that Jim wasn't completely honest about the wake-up times for our athletes. What a scumbag /s. These kids think they're done waking up at 6AM? I see some 4:30-5:30 alarm clocks for early morning lifts in their futures.

Good post. But with regard to recruiting Chicago and "white boy basketball." Who cares. He coaches fundamental basketball and it's a winning brand. We know he's not (or rarely) going to pursue the same player as Coach Cal. We'll get our players. Some will be white. We're going to keep winning. It's a fun program to follow. Who care where they come from.

Are you talking just this year?
Branch has been a solid contributor for nearly a decade now. He hasn't been a star, but it's far from his first year doing well. Same with Hall, Long, Woodley, Harris, Stevie Brown, Avant, several other olinemen and others.
Now if we ARE talking just this year it's kind of slim pickings. Harris easy third, but afterwards...hmm

Sad news for the Big Ten and Coach Kill. I'm hoping he can land at Big Ten Network, where we need actual personalities who know football and I assume would accomodate his health needs better than being a head coach would.

Draymond Green, Magic Johnson, Kirk Cousins, Travis Trice....and Tom Izzo
|17 weeks 2 days ago||QBs||
I have the same opinion about QBs. Why are Cousins, Hoyer, McCarron, and so many more "game managers' sticking in the league as back-up QBs despite mediocre physical tools? They know how to think the game and manage a pro-style offense.
|17 weeks 3 days ago||Don't be so sure||
We have an OL coach guru and the physically impressive, to-be Junior son of an OL coach guru waiting for his opportunity.
That's not a knock against Glasgow. It's just humblebrag that we are probably past the days of relying on extradinary individuals to be our only good players in spite of poor coaching or youth.
|17 weeks 4 days ago||His Dessert Analogy||
I think I'm a pretty smart guy, but I cannot wrap my head around what he's trying to say with that dessert analogy to Maryland's offense. Maryland paid for defense? And feels like they don't need offense. All I'm saying if WOOF, nice try, guy.
And in the last paragraph he says we don't have talent or depth. Talent, maybe, at certain positions. But I think we're actually pretty deep at every positiion save QB and LB. Lots of guys are contributing all over the field.
|26 weeks 2 days ago||Another reply||
Another reply because you're so right about the expectations bit. I was thrilled with the outcome of this hoops season because my expectations after departures and injuries reached a nadir of "get better and compete." We did that, and it was fun to watch.

I completely agree about expectations, and will try to temper mine.

Jehu - "I don't want to leave out any names"
Mentioned Malzone, Morris, Rudock, Cleary, and Moores....did Speight officially transfer? Or is he still around? I can see not mentioning O'Korn or Gentry, but Wilton is an afterthought to walk-ons now?
|29 weeks 21 hours ago||Booing||
I was against it at the time but I'm also against the players (Jabrill) acting like it was uncalled for. If 5-7 and garbage performance was Ok with them, I'm missing something. They "deserved" to get booed. Not saying we should have done it, but Jabrill should acknowledge they did it I themselves. 5-7 isn't acceptable at Michigan.
|29 weeks 3 days ago||Yeah||
Yeah come on, he's gonna get another contract. He was solid as a rookie and below average as a sophomore. His floor is mediocre backup point guard. My prediction is a few good-great sessions. - Jameer Nelson is my career comparison. His ceiling is still as high as his situations and desire dictate. Billups isn't a perfect comparison style and size-wise, but it took him several years to really figure things out. Burke will be a long time pro barring injury.
|29 weeks 4 days ago||Ouch||
Doesn't create much excitement when our "5th" and "4th" best offensive players are a Senior WR whose most memorable plays have been in run blocking, and a Junior QB whose most memorable plays include either concussions or interceptions, and who most believe will not be the starter.
So that's sad. But I don't think it's as bad as it sounds. I just think the guy making the list is a dope.
5 - Darboh
4 - Cole
3 - Glasgow
1 - Green/Isaac/Smith/Johnson (Tough to pick WHO it will be, but there's enough talent/competition for someone to emerge, and a good enough offensive line to expect good production)

|33 weeks 2 days ago||Bottom 20||
I probably wouldn't include LS or K in the bottom 20. They're naturally lower ranked and I'm much more interested in seeing names of position players who may or may
|35 weeks 1 day ago||Venom||
He proved he's a good executive in the past, just an awful athletic director. He didn't take any shots at UofM and did say he learned from the experience. We (the MGoBlog Community) are such haters. Dave Brandon couldn't do anything that would receive anything less than a "he's an asshat" reaction.
I'll get negbanged. But let's move on.
|36 weeks 2 days ago||I know||
I know for an absolute fact that this type of thing happens at UofM, and would bet any at any other program across the country too.
|41 weeks 2 days ago||Tate Forcier||
As just one example, the 5th Quarter in a2 used to let 18 year old Tate Forcier play bartender and pass out drinks to himself, friends, and random customers on Saturday nights.
|41 weeks 4 days ago||Have you seen him play?||
His motor skills are not there. It's a miracle he can do what he can do. There's no shame in that. He's a total success even with a medical.
|41 weeks 4 days ago||If you read objectively||
The "complaint" is that he pushes guys too hard and demanded too much...and also deliveres winning results from losing programs in every instance.
These are exactly the type of thing I want to read, and confirm to me that he's at UofM for the long haul. Coaches in college are the stars, and we'll allow him to be his special brand of crazy for the next 20 years while our players get 3-5 years of that intensive treatment. I think we might see a few more early entries than we've had (because they'll have the opportunity and maybe be a little worn out), but we're going to win football games and they're going to be better football players for it.
Michigan will be a national powerhouse within the next 3 years. I have never been so sure about anything.

Every single bar? Can I sue every bar in my city too, because they're guilty of the same thing - serving alcohol to potentially too drunk a-holes
|43 weeks 1 day ago||Coaching||
Chicken or the egg. He may not be a mastermind but it's hard to coach a well-oiled machine out of freshmen and sophomores. Whenever Mark Cuban-types complain about NCAA rules ruining the NBA product I have to laugh at them because NCAA coaches don't have nearly enough time to coach their guys and prepare them for the next level. Sure, rules could be tweaked but the 35-second shot clock is not the problem with college hoops. AAU streetball and constant turnover of the most promising young players is.

|43 weeks 2 days ago||Chris Perry||
He sounds like Chris Perry. I loved Chris Perry.
|43 weeks 6 days ago||His Evals||
His evaluations sound incredible for a fullback. At very least, a stout, instinctual guy who loves contact will be a player for us.
|44 weeks 5 days ago||Rankings||
If you buy the rumors that some coaches rely on rankings to recruit....highly ranked may lead to good offers but does not equal great potential or great fit.
|44 weeks 5 days ago||Consistent excellence makes||
Consistent excellence makes you elite. MSU, Duke, and Kansas are literally in the conversation literally every March, and that's why they're elite. You can afford to miss once in a while (like Kentucky, Florida, or UCONN). But consistent Sweet 16s, Elite 8s, and something approximating one final four per 4-year class (that's hard to do...I really do give Izzo credit for that tidbit that barely died) will make you "Elite". Of course, you have to win it all once too.
