I don't know for sure, but I do know that Canham marketed 'tailgating' so wives would have a serious interest in organizing an event and attending the game.

Fun in concept. Worst idea ever in reality.
|3 days 18 hours ago||Hear hear!||
Well said. I'm a fan of the legends jerseys. Not every player is going to be a carbon copy of the original, and that's OK. I think it's more about character than production in many cases.
|5 days 17 hours ago||Ryan||
Looked to me like Ryan sprinted over to apologize/shake hands at the end of the skirmish and was rebuffed.

@ND - I think their defense will take a step back. I don't think Gholston is a game changer, and I think our defense takes a big step forward. It'll be a challenge. But I think we win

Boo? No Way. Are you a Michigan fan or not? We're terrible, but it's your team. If you're upset, I'd say don't attend and don't buy next season. Booing won't accomplish anything but embarrass our players in front of their families and recruits. Support our team through good and bad, that's my opinion.
On a related note, this whole blog has gone downhill. I'm boycotting too - I'm boycotting the fanbase, not the team. I think it's an effect of the internet and the power of opinion it affords (because my real life Michigan friends aren't nearly as emo) but I can't handle even reading this blog anymore. I'll check back around bowl season.
We're bad. I'm gonna support our team and trust that Hoke, and if it comes to it, Brandon will get us back to where we want to be. Go Blue!

I think Fitz is having a productive day. Doing better than Green in my opinion. Any specific reason you want him benched today?
|2 weeks 5 days ago||Apology||
I think many of you guys owe Dave Brandon an apology.
But seriously, I've always thought MGoBlog is a little hard on Dave Brandon. I've said it before, but I think 90% of what he's done has been great. The marquee and the jerseys @ MSU are the only two complaints I can think of off the top of my head.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||I agree||
He's been infected by the offensive line. Psychology is a huge part of sports, especially QB.
Having said that, I think our entire team played with more of a swagger after the FG miracle. I'm hoping it'll be the equivilent to Novak's "Aneurysm of Leadership" and help change the momentum or the season and program.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||Elephant||
I don't think they discouraged him from doing it. They were probably realistic about the prospects. The Michigan program being highly regarded probably also implies that it's more demanding than Alabama. Not to mention the distance from the Athletic Campus.
It's not like Alabama has a ton of Engineering majors on the team. On the other hand, our basketball program has an Engineering Grad(!) who was All-Big Ten Defensive team last year. Different sports, sure, but I can't imagine hoops is any less demanding (30+ games and weekday road trips vs. 12 games, only on the weekends). I don't think you can jump to the conclusion that we discouraged him from pursuing it. I think he probably decided that it was more practical to pursue at Alabama, and I can't help but believe the location of North Campus played a part in that.
My two cents.

Roy Manning was hired to coach LBs
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Whoa guy||
I said none of those things and acknowledge we're awful right now. Just keeping the bigger picture in perspective because things aren't as bad this they seem if you zoom out.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Spartans||
I think we have a right to be proud of our history but I believe one thing Spartan
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Coaches||
Some blame on the coaches, I'll concede that. But more blame on RR for not proritizng the posotion, their parents for not procreating 1-2 years earlier, or the players for not being physical and mental freaks ready to be All Conference on Day 1.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Disagree||
I agree with the above comment that it's easier to contribute earlier in basketball. I also want to point out that you listed recruits that Beilein pulled in during this 3rd year or more recently than that. He didn't waltz in and get top talent. We had Douglass, Novak, Cronin, and Gibson talent coming in at first. LLP, Smotrycz and Brundidge were talent that didn't meet the hype.
|5 weeks 10 hours ago||2013 MSU||
We got smoked, I get it. But I can't imagine any coach being able to do anything productive when the interior oline got demolished on every play. We tried running -- didn't work. We tried passing -- no time back there. I can't put yesterday on the coaches. The better team won.
|5 weeks 14 hours ago||Valid Argument||
Can't poke any holes in this one. Although that conclusion can only be drawn if/when his tenure is over. Amaker got 6 years. Hoke is in year 3. I think what he's achieved to this point at Michigan a better parallel to Beilein, but you do have good points about his resume being closer to Amaker. Maybe he'll end up with a Michigan career closer to Amaker. His M trajectory could be rising or flatlining. Let's re-evaluate in three more years.
|5 weeks 14 hours ago||Huh?||
You can't possibly say that MSU of today is less talented than we are, today. PSU? I guess, maybe. But their cupboard isn't bare yet. Just no depth. Beyond that who have we lost to that is less talented? South Carolina, OSU, Notre Dame, and Nebraska last year? MSU in year one? Oh, you're probably referencing Alabama. Those guys suck.
I respectfully disagree. I actually think Hoke has done a good job of not losing games we're supposed to win. We're undefeated at home. However, he hasn't done a good job of winning games we need to win in order to reach the next level. Not surprisingly for young and/or talent deficient teams, ALL of these losses have been road or neutral.
|5 weeks 15 hours ago||You and Bando||
You and Bando are correct. Tough to keep it all straight. I do maintain that he was a popular hire at the time though. Young, some success and assumed that he could be huge in the right environment. Bilas and the mainstream media loved it (I think we all know why).
|5 weeks 15 hours ago||Hoke||
I imply that it might be wise for him to evaluate the way he's doing things. Like Beilein did with his assistant coaches, maybe Hoke can put on a headset (or a sweatshirt). Maybe we make a coaching move or two. Maybe not.
Also your talent comment doesn't really help your argument. Are you saying that Novak, Douglass, Meritt, Lee, and a young Jordan Morgan helped Beilein expedite "the process?" I agree that he's a great X and O coach. Might be too early to say if Hoke is or isn't. Tough to run a play in less than a second. We aren't capable of half of the things he wants to do. More spread right now maybe? But how much will that really do?
|5 weeks 15 hours ago||Amaker||
I remember him being a pretty sexy name in terms of being a young coach with a great pedigree who was coming off a Sweet 16 with some notable recruiting success.
|5 weeks 15 hours ago||Ooh right||
In any case, I think that many Michigan fans weren't terribly excited about the idea of a coach who "didn't like his players dunking." Not that there were many Michigan Basketball fans at that time in the first place. I was cool with the hire.
|5 weeks 15 hours ago||Hand||
I think there are a lot of depressed Michigan fans who are getting hand this weekend. (too far?)
|5 weeks 2 days ago||Or.....||
Or how about you just answer the question. Not trying to be a punk here, but I don't really have time to keep up with Football, Hoops, drinking and a productive career.
/s but really. What did he do? Score the winning goal?
Go Blue. Beat State.
|6 weeks 3 days ago||Morgan||
Morgan isn't going to contend for much in postseason honors? Aren't we still talking about the guy who was on the Big Ten All-Defensive Team last season?
|7 weeks 18 hours ago||Rankings||
The rankings will sort themselves out. I think we're appropriately ranked right now. There isn't a game left that we can't win, and there isn't a game left that I will comfortable saying we WILL win. I'm comfortable being #24 with something to prove in November.
I realize that isn't your point, but those are my thoughts. The teams you've mentioned have all looked better than us in this season as a whole. A little surprised that MSU isn't in the #23-25 range to be honest.
|8 weeks 19 hours ago||Yes||
I went to U of M from 07-11 so I endured "The Horror" (my first home sporting event as a student), the Oregon blowout, and all the frustrations of the RichRod era. Not to mention the Josh Gasser bankshot buzzer beater (my last home sporting event as a student). It got really tiring being so invested in the outcome and having my Saturday's ruined by something I have no control over. And having the disappointment spill over into the week while worrying about the next game.
I'm still a rabid Michigan fan. Haven't missed a single football or basketball game as a Grad Student elsewhere (thanks DVR!). I love it when we win. I love watching Michigan play. I check this blog daily. I hate to lose, but I don't let it bother me anymore.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I can change...and the wisdom to know the difference. Not trying to get religious, but seriously. Hoke and the team probably feel pretty awful about losing. I'll trust them to deal with it. Is my anxiety or fury going to make any difference? Nope, I'd rather just watch the Tigers and get a good night sleep.
Go Blue. It'll all be OK.
|8 weeks 19 hours ago||A||
A. He's undefeated at home, recuiting at a level we have never seen before, has won a BCS Bowl, and is 5-1 this season.
Yeah, we could have done things differently last night but Gibbons was money prior to last night. Should he assume his kicker is going to miss three field goals? Wouldn't you be upset if Gardner coughed up a turnover? It's easy to be an armchair coach and criticize in hindsight. We absolutely should have won that game, but I'm nowhere near a cliff when it comes to Brady Hoke or Al Borges.
I really don't know what to make of the O-Line though.
|9 weeks 17 hours ago||Welcome DJ||
Welcome to the family. I'm sure he'll be a great addition and fit what Beilein is looking to do.
Although, purely from a fan's perpsective I might have preferred Grantham (yeah...I know he didn't pick us) because he seems like more of a physical presence who can stretch, as opposed to the opposite. We'll have Doyle as a C, and Donnal can be physical but I don't want to get too "stretchy" because we're still going to have to play in the Big Ten for 18 games.
All that said, he's an under the radar guy who I'm going to bet is way better than his ranking suggests. Four year players are great to have as well.
|9 weeks 2 days ago||Implying||
I think you're implying that Punter Will has mental health struggles, while DLine Will never had any troubles. That's not really fair to assume for either athlete.
