- OSU's OCoordinator (I forget his name)
|11 hours 26 min ago||Peppers||
I've heard that he is unlikely to play, 2-3 weeks out still.
|20 hours 6 min ago||I guess||
Yeah, it is. Bu it's for Breast Cancer research, so any insults hurled at them are essentially hurled at breast cancer research...and you don't want to be that guy. So as far as wearing pink in an away game in a hostile environment that's a presumed massacre, this should earn a pass.
|2 days 13 hours ago||Yeah, got it.||
Just looking for an excuse to post a tongue-in-cheek optimstic post for this weekend.
Gardner lives up the lofty #98 standard and gets a standing ovation for his 5 TD performance.
|2 days 13 hours ago||I think||
I think we've done as much as we can do. The wheels are turning as fast as they'll turn.
|2 days 16 hours ago||Don't apologize||
Don't apologize for being optimistic. What happened, happened. While everyone else was already miserable during August, you were pretty happy. Now we all accept the reality.
The reality that we're going to pull off an upset on Saturday and things will go back to pre-2006 normal!
|3 days 18 hours ago||CC||
I've seen others post something along these lines, but myy list of desirable head coaches goes:
I don't want to make a change just to make a change. I think Hoke - a guy who loves Michigan and has recruited extremely well. Yes, we should be much better we still do have an objectively young team - in year 5 would be better than another guy with a Hoke-level resume. I think we took a short term step back by firing Borges (hopefully Nuss gets us going very soon) and without making a slam dunk hire, what's the point? We're just that disgruntled where we'd take BC's mediocre head coach instead of our own mediocre head coach? The CC posts have been underwhelming in my opinion.
|4 days 10 hours ago||I do agree||
I do agree, especially last year. But as much as I appreciate Devin, he's had some crippling turnovers at times over his career.
I hope he can carry us to 6 wins in the next 6 though.
|4 days 11 hours ago||My thoughts||
Florida and Texas seem to have the same issues as Michigan right now, which makes me feel a little better (not much). Ultimately, most of it comes back to QB play. Here's to hoping Gardner's aneurysm of leadership is the end of stupid, field position crushing turnovers and gives our defense room to keep us in games. I know Gardner can make enough players to win us games, as long as he doesn't make as many to lose us games.
Does Northwestern EVER have a home field advantage?
I have FSU pulling away for a 2 TD victory.
|4 days 15 hours ago||But, but, but||
But we fired Borges!
Don't get me wrong, I'm not expecting a win. But I really believe that MSU is only a good, not great. They'll be fired up to play us, I get that. I do have confidence in our defense to slow their offense down. It's going to depend on whether they can sustain it for four quarters, and that's going to have alot to do with a) giving the offense opportunities for easy points or b) the offense either playing efficient, mistake free football (not counting on it) or c) the offense hitting on a big play or two to give the defense just enough "run support" to keep them motivated.
If we have a shot at winning, it'll look alot like Penn State -- 20-16 or something. It's not impossible. We've never seen Nuss after a bye week, and there's a reason we were excited about him right?
|4 days 15 hours ago||Neither||
I wasn't able to watch the Rutgers game and ignorance is bliss. Otherwise, from my perspective the defense has looked fine against each of our opponents until around the mid-second quarter where they've been on the field for 8 possessions and 65% of the game set up with poor field position. And in the Penn State game (admittedly a different level of O-Line), they were engaged throughout and played with their hair on fire. I have a little more confidence in them playing with swagger against a rival with the season still on the brink, anuerusyms of leadership, etc...
I don't know man. I'm trying to convince myself there's a shot at winning, because it's way more depressing to watch a football game like it's a punishment.
|4 days 15 hours ago||No Question||
In term of style of play, especially.
My confidence in an upset is going up against MSU and staying the same for OSU (it was already low; and I think "throw the records out" factor will have some say).
|4 days 15 hours ago||Michigan State||
MSU just isn't as good as last year. Despite our record (and performance), I think we ARE better than last year overall (i.e. without a massive achilles heel on the O-Line). From what I'm seeing, I think we have a shot at pulling off the upset if our defense can play to potential. I have faith the the run defense and I think their O-Line can be vulnerable to a pass rush. Can't allow any big plays in the passing game, and create a few a turnover or two.
|6 days 10 hours ago||Really?||
About that last comment - wait, really?
I definitely get why. I've posted my thoughts in more detail elsewhere in the thread. I guess I just expecte more than name calling and obscenities after this move. Regardless of the motive, it's good news.
|6 days 11 hours ago||Fair analogy||
That's a fair analogy, and I do understand that it's a last ditch effort that deserves maybe a bit of facepalm. But it's still the right move. That's why my reaction is "too little, too late," and not "WTF Dave!!!"
I do like your analogy, but on the other hand maybe he's finally reached a point where he realizes he needs to reign it in and can't get away with his antics anmore. His job is literally in jeopardy. So I'll offer another comparison, a person with a drug habit or self-induced health problems that has a "come to Jesus" moment after a very close call. There's plenty of examples of "this person" turning it around.
There are other analogies available to prove whatever point somebody is trying to prove. He's to hoping we never have to find out how the story will actually end. As far as the AD is concerned, I'm more interested in a fresh start than a story of redemption. On the other hand, I am willing to give Hoke another year *IF* he earns it in the next 6 games (contingent upon a fresh start at AD...one has to go).
|6 days 11 hours ago||Yes||
I am really dumbfounded by this entire thread. This is absolutely the right move from a guy in Dave's position. We all think he's a douchebag, fine. But we're piling on to this move, a direct response to one source of fan discontent - swiftly timed to try and prove he's willing to change. This is pathetic. I think I'd prefer that Dave that pull a Marcus Hall and raise the prices so we could actually have something to complain about.
|6 days 11 hours ago||Good||
I don't really understand the comments above me. He's trying to right an obvious wrong. Maybe it's too little too late, but you guys would honestly prefer that he doesn't try to fix it? That he just continues to thumb his nose and screw the students?
Like I said, maybe it's not enough to change your perception or make you want to keep him. But I can't fathom how this is anything BUT a good thing coming from Dave Brandon, a guy who is currently our AD and may still be next year. If our regents don't pull the plug, at least he's willing to bend for the students...maybe mending relationships with season ticket holders and righting other wrongs would come next.
|1 week 1 day ago||Thanks||
THANK YOU. Absolutely true, and part of my frustration with this board's tendency to harp on stupid things just to pile on to Hoke and Brandon. Their actual resumes are enough - are we really using weight, press conference vocabulary (or reluctance to answer questions), and college athletic achievements as reasons they aren't cutting it?
Mediocre coaching and corporate overhaul of our athletic culture are good reasons to want change. And that should be enough.
|1 week 1 day ago||Great||
Great, another opportunity to scrutinize everything Hoke says or does.
|1 week 1 day ago||Ok||
Pipkins has been injured, Countess was all-big ten last year and has had a great career to this point, RJS is behind some good linebackers, and Ross has played well thus far in their careers. I think depth/competition is a factor and their poor play this year is a bit exaggerated.
|1 week 2 days ago||I don't care||
I don't care how good Northwestern looks or how bad Michigan looks. I will never predict us to lose to Northwestern. That said, they don't look that good (despite a few decent wins) and we are improving (plus our losses may not have been as bad as we think - Utah, Minny looking solid). Me personally, I will buy us at 6 wins. Whether we beat MSU or OSU is a different story, but if we can pull out one of those plus a bowl game I think Brady Hoke may have saved his job for another year.
Whatever your opinion is on him being back for another year - I will never ever cheer for Michigan to lose just for a coaching change. Therefore, I guess I'm still cheering for Hoke to save his job until he actually loses it.
|1 week 2 days ago||Nope||
I don't think you're in the minority based on my conversations. Brian is entitled to his opinion, but that doesn't make it the majority. I loved them too.
|1 week 2 days ago||Screw you||
You and all the other "guys in the elevator".
|1 week 3 days ago||I disagree||
I think that is the wisest strategic decision we could make at this point. I don't understand why they don't admit the reason they don't talk about injuries (competitive advantage), but I definitely understand why they don't. I don't think it makes a huge difference usually, but why not? And in this case, Gardner vs. Morris/Bellomy is a huge huge dropoff. I'd rather MSU wonder who's playing than have a clear picture of what Devin is dealing with.
|1 week 3 days ago||Spin||
Gardner considered leaving on his own accord and decided to stick it out. This was years ago. Hoke didn't "ask him to leave." We all knew this already, this slapdick just decided to get the story wrong for entertainment value.
Also, his commentary about Gardner playing injuried was weak. Guys play injured! He wanted to play injured! I think we took him out initially as a direct reaction to the Morris fiasco, because Gardner clearly looked frustrated on the bench (mostly about the fact he GOT injured, I presume).
|1 week 3 days ago||Maybe||
Or sometimes a guy just doesn't have it. I could be in the system for 5 years, and if you put me in it wouldn't be any prettier. Bellomy knew the plays and knew the steps. He just threw in defenders. The game moves too fast for him. You can't necessarily coach that
|1 week 6 days ago||Ok||
Ok so spend a lot more money on coaches and facilities, but cut revenue and don't accept advertising or donation money. Got it.
|2 weeks 10 hours ago||This is becoming too much||
Guy had a brain fart. Who here hasn't had a brain fart? I know he's kind of riding a wave of mistakes, but is this really worth piling on?
|2 weeks 1 day ago||Come on||
I don't think he forced Norfleet to say it. Sure, they want us to show up on time. Do we really care whether they used it in a promotion to get us to show up and support our team?
At this point I think it's very clear that we want Brandon out. Considering the tickets have already been purchased, this particular boycott does nothing but hurt the guys on the squad (Norfleet), make recruits question our fanbase on our biggest stage to impress them, and give ESPN more rabble about Michigan win or lose.
This demonstration will not affect Brandon's job status. Schissel and the reagents will. Go Blue, please show up.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||Supposed to be funny||
It was supposed to be kind of a joke, but fell totally flat. Not a complainer here. But I do sometimes lack awareness of what's actually funny. Carry on.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||Who?||
Marlin and Cato are distinguishable names. Todd must be Todd Howard? Ray...as in Marcus Ray? Why'd you switch to last name, that's confusing. And who is B-Will? Brandon Williams? Should I know him as B-Will?
