I like this list - "Slap Shot" definitely belongs on a list of classics too.
"This is a serious game! Not a freak show!"
|3 hours 50 min ago||To Be Fair...||
To be fair, we did have a "Hello-ish" post for football just the other day (granted, it was more of a formality than an actual announcement), but yeah, it has definitely been a while for basketball, as I recall. A "Hello: Jaylen Brown" post, if there was ever a need to post such a thing, would definitely be welcome and probably be the cause of one of those famous protracted 502 / 503 periods on the blog.
|4 hours 33 min ago||Congratulations To Them...||
Congratulations to them, and if I am not mistaken, the UCLA-St. Mary's game is in progress right now. As you may know, one of those two will be Michigan's opponent on either Wednesday or Thursday if I remember the bracket correctly. On the other side of the WNIT bracket, West Virginia will face the winner of Middle Tennessee and Temple. The survivors (hopefully Michigan is one), will meet on Saturday in the WNIT championship.
|6 hours 29 min ago||Louisville....||
Louisville is playing like they just rolled out of bed and onto the court so far in the second half, simply not matching MSU's energy, getting handled easily in transition, things they should be able to deal with. If they win this game at this point, it is despite themselves on a lot of levels. Go ahead, Rick, pass out some 5-Hour Energy....something....
|8 hours 7 min ago||Now I Am Intrigued...||
If nothing else, I have to hear the story that is behind the name Lourawls "Tum Tum" Nairn. They promised to tell it at some point.
It has only been 4 minutes, but the anticipated plodding start to this game definitely materialized.

|14 hours 4 min ago||Great Game...||
I still remember that one pretty clearly - excellent game indeed. Webber and Rose were about half of Michigan's points, as I recall (with Chris Webber garnering almost 30 by himself, as I recall). It was Dale Brown and Jamal Mashburn that came up big on offense for the Wildcats in that game, with some contributions from Travis Ford (that I can remember who played for Kentucky over 20 years ago is sad somehow).
Actually, the man who coached that Kentucky team shall be coaching the other majoy in-state team today.
|14 hours 21 min ago||If I Remember...||
The last episode had some pretty funny exchanges too, like when Lana asked Archer if he grasped his own mortality and in what would seem to be a classic Archer reply, he said something like, "Lana, no one can."
The whole idea of being miniaturized and injected and needing to get into Dr. Kovacs' body to destroy the clot sort of gave me a flashback to Innerspace (except Innerspace worked on a vastly different premise, of course - the pod was injected into Jack Putter simply to get rid of it so that a rival scientist could not have the technology).
|14 hours 45 min ago||Yes, But...||
Yes, but then you also didn't handle the situation terribly well yourself when people pointed out that there were better ways that the user could have handled his statements, up to and including taking some personal swipes at a couple users. I agree that the thread didn't need to exist (lack of good access to the Mod Sticky on mobile might be a gap that needs work, to be fair), but making the problem marginally worse by not handling the flack you received all that well didn't need to exist either.
By the way, your points are back - just try to remember that it is presentation, not content, that was the issue and presentation definitely matters. It is perfectly acceptable to expect some decorum.
|23 hours 29 min ago||Opinions...||
It isn't about particular opinions, but more about their presentation. It's fine to criticize the play of a given player, but getting personal and then being rude to others on the blog when they disagree with you, that's a deletion of the comment chain and in some cases Bolivia when it is caught. No one is asking people to not say anything, but merely to give a thought to how you say it and who you might say it about. Surely this is not too much to ask.
|1 day 1 hour ago||Boddington's...||
Some Boddington's and hoops....it's a nice, quiet evening....
|1 day 1 hour ago||Rosters...||
Part of me wants to know the rosters that Durkin and Drevno put together in the draft, part of me wants to wait until next Saturday but either way, it will be interesting to see who ended up on which team. It is hard to put a lot of stock in something like this in terms of development and where players are right now, at least in my opinion, but you like to think there was a measure of confidence involved in the selections. It seemsl ike just another part of how the staff is driving competition, and by all accounts, the players were excited about this.
|1 day 3 hours ago||Wisconsin Fouls...||
I still chuckle at the look on the faces of Wisconsin players when a foul gets called on them. They tend to throw their hands up and glare as if to say, "That was NOT part of the arrangement, man!" Of course, that may simply be a jaded, slightly paranoid me, but the idea that they genuinely do not understand why this is happening is amusing all the same.
|1 day 4 hours ago||Very Funny...||
This meme will probably be in millions more threads yet, and as it should be. Well done with this particular Facebook post -
|1 day 6 hours ago||Last Few Games...||
Much of this might be attributable to the weirdness of tournament games in general, but in the last three games or so, Kentucky's defensive PPP has been somewhere in the neighborhood of 0.71 or so. The actual spreadsheet with my information is at work on that drive sadly, so I am working from memory, but on a statistical basis, it definitely dwarfs, say, Wisconsin or Ohio State, for example.
|1 day 7 hours ago||They Are Not...||
You would be correct, in my opinion - they are not cool. Actually, I think it would come to a point where you would see a helmet cluttered with "I Will" and probably just tell the player, "Don't tell me you will do it....go out there and just do it. Stop stalling." It might very well be the case that those send the incorrect message.
|1 day 7 hours ago||Very Cool Indeed...||
"We want everyone to have access to the equipment that they would have to pay a lot for or they would only have that access if they did compete in collegiate or professional athletics," Roth said. "We go through the proper channels to get you there."
If I am thinking of the right area along W. Stadium, you also get access to a Subway and a liquor store, so there is that, but more seriously, hopefully this takes off and is successful. I would imagine that there are probably people who are curious as to what the regimen is like and would give it a go at least.
Good luck to Van Bergen in this venture.
|1 day 7 hours ago||Larkin In Football...||
I believe Larkin was a starting safety on those Moeller teams of note in the late 1970s / early 1980s, but I am remembering that from an article from a few years ago, so I could be wrong there. If that is the case, Barry Larkin as a safety would have probably been an interesting sight at Michigan, especially in a Bo-coached team. Either way, I think the decision to play baseball definitely worked well for Larkin.
|1 day 7 hours ago||First And Foremost...||
First and foremost, congrats to the OP on turning 21 years old.
Second, as others have mentioned, the residential areas on the other side of the bridge have decent parking usually (not nearly as much traffic as an actual game, not usually anyway) and it isn't a bad walk to the stadium from there.
I hadn't heard much about events though - I plan to wander between tailgates / gatherings and pretend to know someone at each one, just to see how many beers I can get that way.
|1 day 14 hours ago||I Don't Know...||
It's difficult for me to speak to something over which we wouldn't have any control regardless. I guess my broader concern is what they would look like in relation to the helmet itself. As Jerry Hinnen over at CBS said in an article about this yesterday, the winged helmet is "a stone-cold classic" and I think care should be taken with both the design and the application to avoid creating clutter on the helmet. I never had strong feelings on the return of stickers, but I would like them to consider aesthetics somewhat since it is happening now.
|2 days 34 min ago||Still Watching...||
I am through my fourth pint of Guinness and still trying to mentally piece together the UCLA-Gonzaga game, which really had moments where, well....blech.
Duke-Utah isn't getting off to anything that might be mistaken for a fast start either, but then there has been a lot of that in this particular tournament.
|2 days 38 min ago||Very Nice...||
"Attention-Grabbing Ad" and "Apologetic Nationals Fan' were pretty funny exchanges too. I might be on this site for a while actually, but it is OK, for I can get back to Duke-Utah at any point. Well, then again, some of these exchanges are rather intricate, so perhaps I will pick it up at halftime instead.
|2 days 2 hours ago||Over Here...||
I've got UCLA / Gonzaga over here, where there has been a minor offensive explosion after a six-minute stretch that could only be considered offensive if you enjoy, you know, making buckets. On the other hand, my sister's husband - who is a Wolfpack fanatic and NC State grad - has left specific instructions not to be bothered this evening.
|2 days 6 hours ago||Very Cool...||
I still remember my sophomore year when the petition went around to make Jones the official voice of CRISP, which would have naturally brought the number of people who dared to press 7 to disenroll to zero, or at least there may not have been living witnesses to the contrary. In any case, I was part of that unsuccessful effort.
Nice to see the list of famous alums - athletes and otherwise - coming to see what's been going on in Ann Arbor lately and stopping in to see Jim Harbaugh.
|2 days 7 hours ago||The Argyles...||
Yeah, but I think they would limit the options for shoes if you're going to coordinate for work or something like that. Maybe a medium brown, but I can't see them with black. Either way, I am pretty sure they are something that my wife would make mysteriously disappear in a purge for Salvation Army items if I did indeed purchase them, and perhaps rightly so.
|2 days 11 hours ago||Great News....||
"Caoch" was one of my many "will not miss unless dire emergency" shows back in the day and I was really into it from day one as was the rest of my family. Like others, I have been rewatching it periodically on Netflix and even introducing my wife to it, although her reply was, "You WOULD like this show..."
Great to see this one being revived in some form actually.
|2 days 11 hours ago||Good Ol' ESPN...||
An ESPN story Wednesday indicated Miller quit "over concussion concerns," but he said that was not the message regarding his decision he hoped to convey.
Either ESPN just assumes that this is the overwhelming reason people leave football or they can't be bothered to get it straight. I had though Miller made it rather clear that burnout was in fact the reason in a few articles, but they are evidently slow to get the message in Bristol.
|2 days 15 hours ago||Banging Indeed...||
I see we wasted almost zero time with the posbang thread, which is fine except that those of us who had to go to bed due to the unfortunate malady of not having Friday off end up a little behind. No matter, of course, as this is an energetic group and I am sure there is some banging left in the thread yet.
The good news is that I have managed to rearrange a few things and will be at the spring game and probably in search of a tailgate. Not that I expect to find one, of course, but if someone of unimpressive build in Michigan gear complains about the weather and asks politely for a beer, be kind to him.
|3 days 2 hours ago||Maybe...||
Maybe, but still much better than a poor man's Steve Alford, as that is in fact Steve Alford.
Either way, welcome to Michigan, Wayne Lyons. Very interested in the makeup of the secondary, or at least moreso now with this addition.
|3 days 3 hours ago||My Picks...||
My own picks, which now reflect only two of the pools I am in - the two I still have some hope in when it comes to winning some cash....
- Notre Dame (I had a pregame tossup feel about this one though, but not so much now)
Having now revealed my actual picks in those brackets, someone goes down. That seems to be the way that goes for me.
