Most of the candidacy filing deadlines for the state ballot in Michigan are in a period from about March to July, altough local stuff sometimes sits a bit outside that range. Of course, this is a statewide thing, so at this point, write-in would be the only way and it would sadly be difficult to organize such a campaign in this short time before November 4th (I think that's the date).

This is rather a traditional way to vent here anyway, so why not indeed...
The Mod Sticky grows
Charred remains of threads pile up
I have kept drinking
Watching the Wild Card
To escape the controlled burn
Now reading threads too

MSU trolls on coaching and program ethics
I don't see how this gets a good reception considering the mood of the board right now, much less on a good day. Actually, it wouldn't be that well-received more or less regardless.
|2 hours 38 min ago||Quick Question...||
Because there are a few people circulating things right now, is it possible to know who told you and if they would be in a position to know this sort of information? I only ask because we are trying to monitor the board at the moment so things don't spread without at least some attempt (even if ultimately unsuccessful) at lending credence to it. Obviously, at this point, this goes for figments of one's imagination too, although they are not required make a personal appearance necessarily.

At least, this is how the man currently in charge of Michigan athletics makes me feel about the whole thing...

Brandon / The Plot Thickens
Unless there was something shocking in the SAAC statement that I missed, never mind it has made it to the board twice today, then the plot most certainly did not thicken.

There is a catch, I would say...
"Eliminating the rule won’t immediately end all blackouts. They could still occur locally under existing contracts between the NFL and broadcasters, or as a result of negotiating disputes between broadcasters and pay-TV operators"
I think a couple networks have such agreements in place, don't they?
|6 hours 26 min ago||Kicks In The Nuts...||
Sadly, to do my due diligence in these threads, I kind of need to read / watch these things to know what precisely is going on in certain threads, but it does get very old very quickly, almost to a point where you have to intellectualize the material to avoid the prospect of marching directly outside and setting random objects ablaze.
|7 hours 3 min ago||According To 11W...||
According to Eleven Warriors, Herman is indeed calling the plays on offense for Ohio State, and I found a couple other snippets that seem to confirm that. I believe he was the OC at Iowa State, Rice and Texas State before the Ohio State gig as well, so he's got a bit over a decade in as an OC now.
|7 hours 36 min ago||I Would Say...||
With this topic, this seems like a good diary to me because it is detailed and makes the point in a very good, thoughtful way. Diaries don't generate as many responses as board posts generally, but the responses tend to be better quality in the diaries.
|9 hours 5 min ago||Fair Statement...||
I sort of thought the same thing, especially when he said he didn't felt that Brandon had "hung him out to dry", as he put it. I don't think he ever was the sort to at least publicly say anything that would show any sort of rift existed, and that probably is a reason he is respectd - there's no real reason to be quite that open in a presser even if there are issues. It really would become an even bigger circus then.
|9 hours 18 min ago||Excellent Work...||
Excellent information and thanks for sharing it with the board.
By the way, you now have enough points to start threads and this would be a good first one, I think. If you see this message, I encourage you to start this as I think there is confusion on the board about this.
|9 hours 37 min ago||Regarding This...||
I actually read both threads and kept this one for that reason just so we can confine this to a single thread, but I do agree with the sentiment here. It seems to me that much of the board is on the same page with Hoke and Brandon, but the 1,000,000 opinions and hot takes and melodramatic posts need to slow down a bit.
As a general note to anyone who sees this, think of it like Snowflakes - is there a thread already covering what you want to say in, say, the first 2-2.5 pages of the board? If so, try to fit it in one of those. I know people want to be heard, but it is definitely drowning out news and other discussions now.
|9 hours 47 min ago||Headset Audio...||
Although they originally posted it for 2012's ND game, MVictors actually reposted the article with Moeller's headset audio as well as Moeller and Holtz breaking down the catch. That link is here - LINK. THe full breakdown is a bit lengthy, but it is an interesting listen all the same.
|9 hours 55 min ago||They Are Going...||
The Mod Sticky right now represents a fraction of what has actually been pulled in the last few days honestly. I like to think that what we've been doing by conceding blocks of threads here and there is basically letting the board do a somewhat controlled burn in the hope that the tide of these threads would slow down. It may take a more concerted effort, I see, so I'll go back through later and see how it can be condensed a little more.

Prediction: Hoke pulls Gardner from game this Saturday
This is the sort of prediction that is best left to the recesses of one's own mind.

The Influence of Large Donors
I think this has several threads which are at least secondarily involved in this discussion still in the first few pages of the board.
This is the most important group of UM students in my lifetime
The board could really do without more melodramatics right now.
Butter over too much bread
The thread "Can we please walk it back a bit?" is basically the same thing, but I agree with the sentiment. No offense to the OP here.

Oddly enough, Massey projects down into the FCS, and even though I am not sure how much data is in the algorithm by the time you get to these projections, you will be pleased to know that it does project a 100% probability for a victory against The Missouri Baptist Spartans, who are in the NAIA, I believe.

Michigan Student Athlete Committee Issues Statement Backing Brandon
This was covered in the wee hours. Actually, at this point, we may have to just assume that if a statement has been issued, it will be on this board within seconds.
|13 hours 20 min ago||Linkage...||
I don't think you'll find anyone here that doesn't support the players - really, if anyone in this PR nightmare, it seems clear that the players deserve better support than what they appear to be receiving from their head coach and their athletic director. The leadership that has been demonstrated to them has been less than great, in my opinion, and that hurts the team both on the field as well as off of it. I am pretty sure this community will do what it can to suport them.
|14 hours 37 min ago||Effectiveness...||
"Brandon has asserted so much control over athletics, he can't escape culpability. A few hundred fans actually marched onto the lawn of Schlissel's campus house Tuesday night chanting for Brandon's dismissal. There's a mob outrage to this, which is uncomfortable. But Brandon has alienated people to the point where it's virtually impossible for him to be an effective leader."
I support the protest, but I sort of agree here - on another level, it was uncomfortable and I think only because I can't recall that level of disenchantment with an AD being expressed in quite that way before. Still, it was nice to see and I agree with Wojo here - we're now at a point where I don't know that Brandon can even lead in other sports effectively, let alone football, and I have to believe the toxicity which he brings will eventually spread to other sports if he's allowed to remain, if it hasn't already.
|14 hours 47 min ago||As I Recall...||
As I recall, the Regents don't really report to anyone directly but merely advise and vote on various items (mainly projects and proposals, and generally high dollar stuff) - the President does typically sit in, of course, and is considered part of the group because he is the President essentially. If you live in Michigan, you might know this - they are on the ballot every two years, at least some of them are and they are not paid by the school per the state's constitution, I think.
Can they get Brandon and Hoke fired? Not by themselves, I would imagine.
|23 hours 26 min ago||It's Definitely Bigger...||
It is about time that there was a story which at least mentions the notion that it is a cultural issue to which people object and that the relations nightmare of the last few days is something which underscores it in a manner which gives it a voice that must be heard. In simpler terms, this athletic department has to change its culture and personnel if anyone of note is to come to Michigan. I think the mishandling of Shane Morris but also everything related to what happened to him gives these many cultural issues in the department a very loud, tangible voice, if you will.
|1 day 6 min ago||Slight Quibble...||
I am going to quibble with this stance, if you don't mind.
I believe that this level of cynicism is not indicative of this fanbase. Perhaps the record exacerbates things, but I do believe that among these fans on this blog (and beyond, in the Michigan fans that I know), this is still a problem (and a big one), the events of Saturday. I would like to think that we are generally aware that player safety is at the forefront as it should be, and I don't believe for a moment that we would blithely dismiss the apparent maltreatment of our own player by his own coaches (regardless of how it came about) if this were in a situation where on-field performance was better. Sorry, I don't buy this aspect of the larger argument.

I admit, I chuckled at this one...
|1 day 2 hours ago||I Was Thinking This...||
I would agree that this is not bad for an idea that, as far as anyone knows, is not yet 24 hours old. It would be nice to see this continue intermittently until some change finally comes into being. At least to me, what has transpired in the last few days is evidence enough that change is needed and soon - nice to see so many people on the same page.
|1 day 2 hours ago||Upon Reading That...||
I don't mind this in the sense that, as someone said, it looks like it was written by an adult, but more importantly, it really doesn't do more than show awareness of the situation, as it should, and at least ostensibly promises a review of how things went down and what we could do better. I don't think the door was shut on the possibility of Brandon or even Hoke eventually going (actually there are statements in the letter which lead me to think the idea of both of them going may yet become reality), but it seems clear that it will not happen right this moment certainly.

The Michigan Indifference
We've had similar ideas in a few threads that were left standing in the last few days, so this one might be played out at this point.
Another Gregg Henson article about Brandon
Gregg Henson was indeed placed on the "journalist non grata" list, so no.
Foster Quotes Sideline Watcher Who Says Trainers Told Hoke to Remove Morris
I found the segment, and typically a particular show on 97.1 is not well-received here due to the people who do it. Well, more one than the other, and I rather failed in my duties by picking a fight in that thread, but I don't know that this tells us anything that couldn't easily go into another thread right now.
|1 day 5 hours ago||Here's That Story...||
For those interested, here's the MLive story - LINK
"In the midst of the controversy, members of the popular fan message board mgoblog.com have planned a "Fire Dave Brandon Rally" for 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Diag on U-M's central campus"
It references the initial thread and some of the comments as well.
The Central Student Government meeting is tonight too. Kind of interested to see if they have an official statement as well.
|1 day 5 hours ago||The Limitation...||
I qualified it (a lot, short of verifying really - I put a big "if" in my initial statement) with that given the person he claims to know, he would probably only have access to certain information (a very narrow scope, but some of it game-related) - that thread Saturday night would have been way beyond the scope of anything he could have credibly known given his described relationship to the person he mentioned, and as a few of the items have been shot down by people even closer to the players now, we'll probably not take that as sourcing anymore. I was willing to give him the benefit of a doubt, but that time has passed now.
|1 day 6 hours ago||The Origin...||
There was a thread which appeared perhaps a couple hours after the game from someone who gave us a laundry list of things - this meeting included - which turned out to not happen (or at least not as they were described in that thread), at least most of the items they mentioned didn't to the best of my knowledge. It was the same person who posted some stuff about the QB situation last week, I believe. That might be where this came from.
