So many businesses are…

So many businesses are understaffed, sometimes because of attrition but sometimes by design. Glad to see that the Athletic Department will have none of that.

So, the NCAA was threatening…

So, the NCAA was threatening further, unwarranted sanctions directed towards Harbaugh because their investigation was openly criticized by his representation? What a loser organization indeed.

Even better, pre-decimalized…

Even better, pre-decimalized British currency. I would love to see them figure out a fine that came out to, for example - 100 pounds, 10 shillings and elevenpence.

The committee will not…

The committee will not discuss further details in the case to protect the integrity of the ongoing process, as the committee's final decision — including potential violations and penalties for the former coach — is pending.

HAHAHA.

The lack of self-awareness is fantastic.

I admittedly was thinking…

I admittedly was thinking this very thing when I read the story.

Any one of us would have demanded he get in the car and taken him home without any complaint, but it isn't to us that he must now answer.

Sometimes, the price of…

Sometimes, the price of falling a bit short can be high. Fortunately for their football team, Ohio State is willing to spend a bit to witness things which fall markedly short of great.

I keep wondering how the two…

I keep wondering how the two entities that have been profiting billions of dollars a year, the TV networks and the Universities, have somehow slithered out of being part of the monetization of college athletes? It has somehow fallen solely on outside support and donations from fans and donors, how TF did that happen?

Well, I think the way to put that burden back on the schools - where it should be if this is to continue, IMHO - is to do something which may be somewhat unpopular in some circles and make them fully vested university employees (you get some level of mutual commitment in the process, I would say - minimum contract terms a la pro sports? There are ways to do this, I think) with benefits which include some structured deals regarding NIL and, in theory, make fan funding unnecessary since the marketing component would then be a function of the position through some means. If that means a school has to use their TV cut as the de facto hiring budget, then fine, if you ask me. I am fine with NIL but burdening fans with the expenses, even in part, is unacceptable to me.

Tom, just leave well enough…

Tom, just leave well enough alone, please.

Seriously, just enjoy a career well-played and do whatever the hell you want to do in retirement. Don't be Brett Favre.

(checks latest stories)

REALLY don't be Brett Favre.

Isn't their practice field…

Isn't their practice field well away from any sizeable parking? It's been a long time since I've been to the campus, but access as well as seating (even with the temporary structures they mentioned) will be hilarious, I am sure.

I missed the comment above…

I missed the comment above and would have banned him if I had seen it. Apologies for that.

As for the rest, thank you for ringing in on this. I realize what I did might have been a bit ham-handed, but was going for an interpretation of "on topic" and I might have been too late that time.

Here in the downriver…

Here in the downriver suburbs of Detroit, we only had something like 99.4% coverage, but it was enough to make it - at least momentarily - about 8 PM dark, if you will. In addition, for about two minutes, the streetlights popped on. We did notice a slight drop of in temperature as well - officially, it dropped about four degrees Fahrenheit here, they said. The peak of our experience lasted roughly two minutes. We did get a couple grainy photos too, but mostly ambience shots at peak. It was briefly sort of creepy in a way.

People who say things like …

People who say things like "chocks my guff" really raise my hackles, first and foremost.

In all seriousness, however, one thing that does annoy me quite a bit would be people whose emotional sustenance is derived from the art of shitting on others. People who get upset when you critique and break down their ideas into their constituent parts so that they can, in fact, be discussed annoy me too.

As I said, I am open to…

As I said, I am open to discuss a clearer guideline in the future. Doing so probably would make for a net improvement in user experience. Of course, I am also an unpaid volunteer and have been so since March 2013 when I agreed to do this, so my opinion literally means nothing to anyone anyway.

I see what you're saying, but I also believe that it is not for me to craft any one particular image of anything by the strategic deletion or superfluous addition of certain things. I've been accused of it before, but it is never the intention. At the same time, there is a discussion on what constitutes "the line" that the management (which is not me) might want to have perhaps since there are some admittedly vague terms being used.

From the site's FAQ page:…

From the site's FAQ page:

ONTOPIC

  • Anything Michigan sports related
  • Anything related to other Big Ten teams or upcoming opponents
  • Stuff about the blog itself
  • University of Michigan topics that don't relate to sports

I am not trying to be difficult here, of course, but I am interpreting that last bullet point. That's been essentially in place since 2009. If we need to talk about the finer details of it, I am all ears, but that's what I am basing it on.

The other question is going…

The other question is going to be this though - "what is political?"

You can make anything political. I can make my own ding-dong political if I cared to come up with a bizarre enough argument. Would it be a very good argument? Obviously not, but in theory I could muddy the waters enough that someone would take my side on an issue that really doesn't need sides.

So, is the university attempting policy (I'll use "attempting", because admittedly, I find it problematic) itself political? Not really. Can people use the inspiration for this policy to make the argument political? They already have, of course. We can talk about the merits of a policy without politics, but this one is more difficult because of what the University used as its basis for need.

To me, that means it essentially sits on the outer edge of the line around here, but obviously, this is a policy interpretation. Obviously, certain topics are clearly out of bounds - we aren't here to talk foreign policy, and if that's all it was, then the post wouldn't be there either.

One of the pitfalls of this…

One of the pitfalls of this being a sports-centric blog whose rooting interests are attached to a public institution is that public institutions and their primary decision-makers will occasionally at least find themselves on the fringes of local, state and even national politics because of the various things in which they are involved, usually through research and investment. Further, some of these people are in fact elected to the positions they hold. To that end, it's difficult to stop everything, but yes, there are some habitual shit-starters.

The other problem is that the University is itself on-topic here, so we are likely to get stories like this posted on occasion. I guess my advice to any prospective OP would be to at least refrain from editorializing and just summarize what is in fact said. That will at least increase the chances of a post being locked but being allowed to remain as opposed to entire posts being deemed unsalvageable in their entirety, as this one nearly was.

As for the comments themselves, yeah, they can be unhidden and reviewed as easily as they are hidden, so I hope people who believe they must be heard no matter the human cost keep this in mind.

Out cry after President Ono…

Out cry after President Ono sends e-mail severly restricting protesters rights (with any input from staff or students)

There is no bloody way I am sifting through that shit. I have, however, locked it and left the post with the link if people wish to peruse it in silent contemplation.

The only thing for which those threads are generally useful is for discovering things about people that one might consider utterly appalling.

I have altered the title and removed the OP's editorializing as well.

I am still waiting for the ability to trade points in for stock ownership when the place goes public.

I peeked at his Wikipedia…

I peeked at his Wikipedia entry admittedly, which is not extensive but does display his coaching history and record. Not sure how competitive the South Atlantic Conference is as I am not terribly familiar with DII hoops, but that is quite the run with Lincoln Memorial. He was 337-69 overall.

The three losses clearly…

The three losses clearly still hurt, and I am at peace that they hurt them.

He was one of the first…

He was one of the first purchasers of legal weed in the State Of Michigan on December 1st, 2019, when it became legal.

His court saga is also part of the reason electronic surveillance requires a warrant now, I believe.

He had bit roles in what…

He had bit roles in what seems like a third of the films made in the 1980s and into the early 1990s too. He was the doorman in "Who's Harry Crumb?", the border guard in "Stripes", a patient in "Innerspace" and General Raymond in "One Crazy Summer", just to name a couple roles.

He was also really, really funny. RIP.

"While the previous two…

"While the previous two teams were probably more talented, this one feels a lot more frisky and capable of sneaky up on people"

You don't hear "frisky" applied to teams much anymore. It's refreshing.

I am just impressed that no…

I am just impressed that no team, at least to my knowledge, has tried to deliver signs in the form of interpretive dance vignettes, if you will, although sometimes baseball teams come close. Really, it would be more for the performance than what the signs mean at that point, and it would have the added advantage of keeping coaches limber throughout the game.

The catch is that the flight…

The catch is that the flight on MGoBlog Airways is in a vintage biplane and.....do you like wingwalking? It's important to determine seating.

Yeah, this is what I am seeing as well. Most everyone is saying it will be Kelsey barring some showstopper essentially, but he hasn't signed anything as of yet.

For now, we will go with one Rod Moore thread.

The last time I saw "The Ozone" was several years ago, but it does still exist, I believe. I don't know if the forums even work anymore though. Even all those years ago, they were in a format that even 1997 might have found quaint.

Can you actually come in…

Can you actually come in worse than second in a game between two teams? Asking for Utah State.

I walk back into the family room after some dinner prep in the kitchen and I see that Utah State has abandoned the match, as it were....

Admittedly, I wasn't really…

Admittedly, I wasn't really even thinking about the coaching search until they just dropped this in a break in the action on CBS.

Other than the Tournament, I have not watched Florida Atlantic play much, but he was one of the more in-demand names, so it seemed, and I am petty enough that cockblocking Louisville makes it funny to me. In any case, hopefully this works out. We need a roster first too, of course.

Many years ago, we went to Yorktown, and of course, as a descendant of those on the losing side of it, I looked at my quite English father and said, looking around the landscape, "This is where we lost all this, eh?"

When FAU turns it over, it's in this awful yet fascinating way...

I live in southern Wayne…

I live in southern Wayne County, where we have not seen more than a dusting of snow, but I know that roughly 20 miles both west and north of us, it is a totally different story.

All the same, utterly depressing weather for the opening days of spring, but it wouldn't be the first time that has happened in the state of Michigan.

This is actually.....a…

This is actually.....a terrible idea. Well done, OP.

I think "Jalen Milroe's…

I think "Jalen Milroe's cadence" just needs to be the new standard blanket excuse for the inability to deliver on something.

"We regret to inform you that this order cannot be fulfilled in the time allotted due to Jalen Milroe's cadence."

"At this time, we cannot process your request due to Jalen Milroe's cadence."

I like it. I think we should utilize it.

"It's all about what is best…

"It's all about what is best for the financial part of it, if I'm going to be very blunt, more than it is the players and teams,"

I sort of believe that the only reason Michigan State is in this year is to get SE Michigan eyeballs, so yes, if that is in any way the case, then it certainly is about the financial part.

That said, that wouldn't undercut the idea that, in reality, making sure that worthy teams truly get their shot and that those teams don't necessarily need to be household names is what a tournament that wants to make money and have a really entertaining narrative would do, right? I can't imagine, for example, that millions are disgusted by the occasional Kentucky / Duke / NC / etc...early exit, or better still, non-presence in a truly bizarre year. To maybe see such things is why millions WATCH.

"2 of us are Michigan fans,…

"2 of us are Michigan fans, ones a Buckeye 😒, and the other plays for both sides ( Michigan and Sparty). I haven’t concluded who’s worse. The cooler pooper or the guy who would most likely wear a hat with the letters “NBA” to an NBA game. "

No, this is easy. The person that does the "state of Michigan" bullshit, as some call it, where they cheer for Michigan or MSU situationally, is far worse and cannot be trusted. At least the OSU fan is likely to be all in on their team in that psychotic way that only Buckeye fans can achieve sometimes.

It's covering up the sign…

It's covering up the sign that reads "SEVERE TIRE DAMAGE", you see....

ParkWhiz shows booking…

ParkWhiz shows booking availability at a few lots within about a 10-ish minute walk of the main venues for the Draft, but it looked like most of the closest parking is now more or less booked. There are public lots, and some of the larger businesses occasionally allow paid parking, but it is a limited number of spots. You MIGHT sneak into the casino garages, but they are all a bit of a walk regardless then. If you find a spot, walk through the casino first just in case the person watching the cameras is actually paying attention.

Because of the Midwest…

Because of the Midwest Regional for the NCAA Tournament and the NFL Draft next month, groups of any size might be a bit tricky depending on the weekend you'll be here, but you might give it a go at least and see what's available if it won't be around those two weekends.

If you get an AirBnB or Vrbo and don't want to be in the city, then suburbs with superb freeway access are probably going to be your best area of focus. Dearborn is near I-94 and M-39 and has a pretty cool restaurant / entertainment scene all to its own if you want to grab a meal closer to your accommodations. Livonia might be a good bet if you want something fairly close along the I-96 corridor, and if you want to be north or south of downtown along I-75, then Royal Oak (probably the northern end of it, which is typically a bit nicer), or going south, anything in the Woodhaven / Brownstown area, which is safe but kind of far from the city (30 minutes in good traffic).

Well done with the qualifier…

Well done with the qualifier there, incidentally.

Theoretically, the portal would also allow a new coach to build something - operative word - that we could at least wheel out there next season, but still....

Well, I would not have…

Well, I would not have expected anything less from him.

I am still sad that this did not unfold as anyone had hoped, even if this really was what had to be in the end.

Some of us are not blessed with any Irish genes, so I, for one, can only appreciate it from afar.

All the same, Happy St. Patrick's Day.

No, I haven't really.
