|5 min 47 sec ago||Maximum Overdrive...||
Maximum Overdrive ruined me for lawn mowers for about a year or so - that was some creepy shit to be hauled to see by a rather absent-minded sitter at the age of seven. Pretty sure the only reason I got in was that they were an employee at the Canton 6 at the time and nobody seemed to care about the age thing, or they weren't paid enough to care. Either way, I got to see a lot of films in the early to mid-1980s that way, some of them before I should have. It shows.

At this juncture, if indeed these results are a true reflection of fan affiliaiton, I would like to officially call out Lapeer, Midland, Kalamazoo and Van Buren counties in the Lower Peninsula for failing to live up to the "Pure Michigan" slogan. Come to think of it, we could constrain the parameters even further to Presque Isle county and the portions of the I-96, US-127 and US-131 corridors that MSU dominates.
There is then the Upper Peninsula to address...
What we really need here to confirm this is some on-the-ground reporting - Midland County residents, please poll your neighborhoods for Alabama fans. If you find them, ask them "WTF?"

The weekend begins and ends with Mother's Day this time around, mainly fueled by the assurances of my kids that there will be some idea for a present or dinner for their mother by the time I get home today. Of course, I'll get something for these categories myself, but they wanted to flex their creative muscle this year. We shall see how that works out.
There's also may be mowing the part of the backyard afflicted by standing water, but first the water would need to no longer be standing there. If nothing else, it is a beautiful morning and it is shaping up to be a mostly beautiful weekend in southeast Michigan, discounting some rain on Saturday potentially.
Next weekend is a weekend without kids from Friday to Sunday - they'll be with their grandparents in Chicago. Details on the party forthcoming.....maybe.
|7 hours 50 min ago||Like Father...||
As many jokes as we crack (and I creacked several about this on Twitter - I own it), part of me almost feels bad for Connor Cook in the sense that, if this is even an echo of how his father is consistently offline as well, he had to grow up with that as an example of how to behave towards others. Worse, if that is the case, the genesis of what they may be of his leadership skills, roundly and righfully questioned, come from those interactions as well. In other words, if Cook is indeed an insufferable douche, he might very well come by it honestly, if nothing else.
|16 hours 3 min ago||As A Result...||
As a result of, well, these results, I will now owe someone donuts in the morning - neither of us thought a lot of balls would be flying over the outfield fence, but I took Harbaugh over Leach by one home run. I managed to get the margin right at least, so I assume that means I get one of the donuts, although this aspect of the wager was not discussed in quite so much detail.
Either way, sounds like it was a great success!

“The rest of the staff stayed in touch, but I didn’t get any love from coach Meyer. If I’m committed there, you should treat me how you treat the recruits that you still want.”
After Durkin's recounting of what was a very awkward interview with Urban Meyer back in the day for an assistant position, I have this image of Meyer treating recruits with the same awkward disdain intermixed with oddly reassuring phrases that give you the impression that somewhere in his person is someone who may care on some level, but which level is hard to ascertain.

I can almost see the report now, right after it falls victim to a horrible accident on its way to the NCAA....
|1 day 1 hour ago||Multiple Harbaughs...||
Jim Harbaugh in combination with the plot of the movie "Multiplicity", plus or minus a few elements here and there? Could the world even handle that? I am not so sure. I mean, it would be a glorious amount of enthusiasm unknown to mankind, possibly bringing down governments and nations in the process as they suddenly flock to Ann Arbor to bolster the football team.
|1 day 5 hours ago||First And Foremost...||
First and foremost, my condolences on the loss of your friend. Thirty-three is far too young.
One of the hardest things I ever had to do was put similar feelings into words when I lost one of my sisters in 2012 to drug addiction and abuse. It was my duty to give the speech at the funeral (she was cremated, but my parents wanted a service for the sake of family), so I know how difficult that can be to find the right words. The worst part about the entire series of event perhaps is that it was my parents who found her on her kitchen floor. I can't even imagine what they felt.
Due to my own experiences, I definitely echo the sentiment - if a family member or a loved one is going down this road, try to let them know somehow that they aren't alone, that there are people and avenues that can lead out of that. I don't wish the alternative on anyone because my family lived the alternative and still deals in some way with it even now.
|1 day 7 hours ago||Cautionary Tales...||
At this point in the evolution of social media, it is nearly laughable when people do things like this only because there are now volumes of cautionary tales out there regarding things people said that were work-related coming back to haunt them up to and including their own termination. We've had one or two instances of that in the last few years where I work, one of them being a Facebook post that was abusive towards customers that was forwarded to the corporate twitter account - the time from the post going up to that person being let go was about 30 minutes.
What makes this even worse for Moorehead is that he seemed to double down on his behavior after the initial post. Yeah, there might be a posting for a WR coach at Texas A&M sometime today. I can't imagine you keep your job after that.

Are we running MGoBook on tomorrow's derby? If so, what are the lines?
There was someone on Twitter throwing out this very image above, but mentioning with the usual sarcasm that the image shows a man who is a man so tortured by his time on a college campus. Glad to see that Harbaugh is settling in rather nicely and competing as usual as we slide into another season with him at the helm.

Well done to all who gave something to the effort!
|1 day 18 hours ago||About This...||
I would like to confirm that they are excellent - we have someone at work who commutes in all the way from Jackson (my office is in Belleville) and they brought Hinkley's in a couple weeks ago. Those donuts were not only good, they were gone inside about 30 minutes. Definitely some good selections in those boxes he brought.
|1 day 20 hours ago||Those Camps...||
I just hope that one of those camps has its registration desk right on the 50-yard line at Bryant-Denny just so the Alabama staff can do something akin to electioneering right in front of the table if they so choose. It would be pretty funny to watch them humiliate themselves just to cause a distraction and impede attendance.

MBB: Beilein makes assistant hires official (Donlon, Washington)
When it comes to hiring news, just assume that if the tweet or article is older than about 5 minutes, it has already been posted. It's just easier.

"Industry-Leading 38-Game Bowl Schedule"
Right, because there are other outlets that are in danger of showing up ESPN on this one. NBC is probably planning 45 bowl games, all of them involving Notre Dame and color analysis by Tom Hammond. It just seemed a shade gratuitous to me, the phrasing.
I can't wait to be able to zoom in on the tens of people that usually show up for the St. Petersburg Bowl as usual.
|1 day 23 hours ago||Not Offensive...||
There was nothing offensive in it, but the snark had snowballed to a point where the thread itself was not worth salvaging, in my own estimation. There's not enough time in the day to make pinpoint deletions to keep certain threads going, especially once the MGoSnark has been allowed to accumulate. That, and the number of downvotes tends to be an accurate gauge of the future of the thread - it wasn't looking promising in that case.
It's not a perfect system, but it works most of the time.

Ohio State’s Draft Class Is The Most Impressive In Modern NFL History
Yeah, this one wasn't doing all that well. When someone started talking about treatments for anal warts, suddenly the entire thing seemed beyond salvage. The thread, that is, not the butt afflicted by anal warts.
|2 days 1 hour ago||You Know...||
I don't mind saying that it has been an up and down week thus far on the blog. Not this thread specifically, but some of the others posted, some of which are gone.....I mean, people drop those and it plays out like this:
|2 days 3 hours ago||Critiques...||
Regarding the first rule, that is a line that definitely needs to be made clear from time to time, and not just with recruits, but with current players and coaches, and while we're at it, with people in general, athlete or not.
Feel free to be as critical of content as you wish - criticize game film, crticize strategy and use and the elements of play. Feel free to criticize arguments if you deem it necessary. Do not let it devolve into personal abuse. Worse, and there are people on this blog guilty of this, do not let it START with personal abuse. For those things, there are some consequences.
As for the fourth rule regarding being an impostor, I think the lesson here is bow out gracefully once discovered. I think RDT just quit posting under both that account and his actual MGoAccount, so we never really got closure there, not even an "...and I would have gotten away with it too if it hadn't been for you meddling kids!". I think we deserved that much.
|2 days 3 hours ago||Interesting Stuff...||
Investments and start-up companies looking for venture capital money are discussed all of the time in the locker room. One player buys in and more start to follow. Easy, easy way to get burned. That Iraqi currency? Players were investing $40,000 and getting absolutely zero in return. All gone.
Because I've never been in a position where I've gone from being a college student with comparatively limited means to having first round money, it's admittedly hard for me to know how those amounts process in the heads of players, but it seems clear that whatever financial education the NFL or teams put on for players needs to be expanded in the hope that maybe a few more get the message. You won't get through to everyone, and I think some already get it anyway, but there's still an opportunity here, I would think.
Floatable furniture? Someone really bought into the idea that it would be a good idea to sell floatable furniture in flood-prone areas? Yikes.

Yeah, we're not going to have that here - CoachBP6 went for big bucks, I am sure, but his account landed on a whammy.
|2 days 4 hours ago||Good Read...||
Very good read. Thanks for the link.
Admittedly, my eyes lit up about here:
Donlon’s teams have pack-line fundamentals — the same system that has given Wisconsin, Virginia and Xavier so much success — but are aggressive forcing turnovers, cleaning up the defensive glass and actually commit fouls at a fairly high rate (FTA/FGA allowed over 40 in every season).
If any portion of that could be recreated, I would be down with that.
|2 days 15 hours ago||Good News...||
Definitely good to hear that they have someone in custody for this - stories like this unease me a bit because it is quite frankly frightening to think that there is someone out there who would potentially cause harm to people that they didn't even know, never mind cared about. The lack of humanity in such an act makes me shudder, though I often wonder what the motives are for acts like this.
|2 days 18 hours ago||Well, To Be Fair...||
Well, to be fair, there is also a Hooters in Taylor - that should come as a surprise to no one, and I say that as a downriver resident. It was just a striahgt shot down I-94 and a quick jaunt down Eureka the entire time and he never took advantage of it. Of course, there is no Ferris wheel - just a Home Depot, a long-abandoned Sports Authority and soon a Menard's where once sat the Gibraltar Trade Center.

Taco Charlton or Drake Harris to MBB (no rumor, but should they?)
It is fair to say that this one was not going well, nor was their much hope that it would improve.

|2 days 22 hours ago||I Don't Get It...||
I honestly don't quite understand this list at all - quite a few of these guys are perhaps the victims of hype that was ultimately empty. Several were injury-prone and unless potential means "career that they might have had without *insert injury here*", then I struggle there as well.
Tony Conigliaro was actually a good player that was the victim of a freak event really - not sure why he's even on this list really. He was a known quantity, I would think. Also, "Generation K" as a group seems like lazy entry to me - you'd do better to break this up since individually they all came with some hype and only Isringhausen made something resembling a career for himself.
|2 days 23 hours ago||Well, Damnit....||
If he is in fact going, then that is two open spots with no obvious candidates to fill either of them, if my math is right (it may not be). It puts a lot on Wilson and Irvin, I would think, if we're confining our talk to what happens with the existing roster if nothing happens, so it would be interesting to see how those spots get filled. You could piece togther a lineup from the roster as it sits, but still I think this hurts.
